We stopped by for a cinnamon roll while waiting for seats at a nearby restaurant. Decided to have dessert first. They were out of their best pastries, so we settled for the pecan sticky bun. The bread was not as soft as Cinnabon, but you could taste the butter and rich ingredients. The 'French silk pie' lives up to its name. The chocolate was as smooth as silk. What a fantastic old timer bakery! It's in a great side street in Franklin, just outside of the main Nashville area. Order at the counter and find a place to sit. They have fast service when it comes to the food. The person bussing tables was great and efficient. Seems like each staff member truly loved their jobs and serving up smiles to each person they encountered. What a pleasant experience! Each item is priced out so pick and choose what sounds good to you to make a meal. The BLT was delicious and a happy reminiscence of what mom used to make. The fruit was fresh and sweet. Check to see what is on their specials for the day, although if you come too late they may be sold out. Skip the lattes here. They excel in the food, but lack in the speed, efficiency, and taste in the hot beverage category...stick with Starbucks. Many many years ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I visited Merridee's Breadbasket...that was before Yelp existed and I was in high school. Well, I went back there again and it was better than what I remembered. I took my girlfriend to downtown Franklin to show her where I grew up and thought it would be nice to walk around downtown and have a light lunch here. I got the chicken salad on a croissant because well, that's what they're good at! The croissant was light, buttery, and served as the perfect compliment to the homemade chicken salad. She had the chicken quesadilla and was pleased with it. I was pleasantly surprised as to the amount of flavor in it as well. Great-sized portion as well. What I remember most is the peanut butter pie. Holy Lord, good God it was amazing. I love the mix of peanut butter and chocolate...and this slice of pie was paradise in my mouth (Yes I know that's what she said). Creamy, smooth, rich and delightfully sinful (notice how I'm not using the Oxford comma anymore). If you're in downtown Franklin, definitely go to Merridee's for a great, flavorful lunch. read more

My experience at Merridee's was meh - borderline disappointing. After waiting in a super long line, I thought it could only go up from there. I was mistaken. I ordered the Turkey Club sandwich and a pumpkin chess bar. Ok, let's start with the good stuff - the pumpkin bar was amazing. I couldn't stop myself from dabbling in it while I was waiting on my sandwich. Based on that, the baked goods seem legit and worthy of a return visit. Now, on the main event....As I mentioned before, I ordered a turkey club (one of the critical components of a turkey club is BACON - as mentioned on their menu). So, imagine my surprise when I bit into my sandwich and there was no bacon. I asked the waitress for a copy of the menu - thinking that I had incorrectly assumed bacon was a part of the meal. No, I was right - it is listed as the second ingredient on the menu. After waiting so long to get my sandwich just for it to be made incorrectly, I was a little annoyed So, I wave a waitress down (you don't have one assigned to your table - so it appears to be a free for all) and let her know that my sandwich was missing a key ingredient. She casually mentions, "We're all out of bacon - and have been." Understanding that it wasn't her fault, I mentioned that it would nice if the cashier mentioned that to folks ordering sandwiches that featured bacon. Well, the diners next to me caught wind of it (their sandwiches were supposed to have bacon too) and they were super disappointed. What to do? I ordered something else - their famed chicken salad. Talk about disappointing!!! It was a sloppy assortment of too much mayo (it overwhelmed the dish), a couple bits of celery, and a couple of pieces of chicken. I think they self-proclaimed the status of their chicken salad because I've had better at a local fast food place. I also ordered the soup (mushroom, spinach, and curry). It would have probably been amazing if it wasn't cold. By that time, I didn't want to bother the waitress anymore with another food issue - so I just pushed it to the side. Needless to say, I'm torn. Went in on my Friday off at around 9am and it was pretty crowded. Got a seat on the couches. Ordered an egg and cheese biscuit and a marble latte. The biscuit was perfection, not that I would have expected anything less from a bakery but it was up there in the class of Loveless for me. The latte was very good too. But let's talk about why they really got 5 stars.. They have a huge tempting rack of breads and sweets and a whole display case of individual serve sweets. I avoided the temptation to get a sweet with my breakfast deciding that the latte was sweet enough. However I did not avoid the temptation completely and ended up getting the pecan topped cinnamon rolls to go and man those things are amazing. We have been rationing them all weekend to make sure there are still more left. So good! The dough itself was the perfect consistency. I will definitely be back for more goodies! read more

The city of Franklin has the small town feel and this downtown area is super quaint, to include this deli styled restaurant. The menu is long and the homestyle look to the entrees are pleasing and every plate that we saw looks scrumptious. The portions are really big, as are most places. I had the Philly Cheese Chipotle Wrap with mac & cheese. This mac & cheese was super moist and cheesy! The only issue I had with my wrap is that it was very juicy and the juices pooled on the plate making my wrap unable to be eaten like a wrap. I ended up having to eat with a fork and knife but that did not take anything away from how it tasted, awesome! My wife had the Pot Roast and it was super moist and so so good. I am very glad we came when we did because the line was out the door and seating at a premium. There were so many choices for dining in this small town and we are glad we chose this place. This place is so pretentious and overpriced they should merge with Saffire and become the beacon of tripe for the public lap top set. Tried them for moderate volume buy for client leave behinds, a couple of pies and 8 dozen cookies. Almost $100 bucks. A waste of money. Case in point. The molasses cookies were so caked in white sugar they were inedible, when you brushed enough off for a bite without getting sick you could tell they were hiding a great chewy cookie underneath. Overdone and gauche. The chocolate chip walnut was a genuinely good cookie, bravo. Everything else was so gratuitously doused in cinnamon or sugar that you couldn't eat it. The pies were decent to dry. Crust was good, not so much flaky, as tasty and a little heavy. The bottom line bang for the buck, it misses miserably. The only thing worse than the price is the "scratch made" smugness of the kids working there. They've been lied to about the nature of Merridee's because they haven't ventured to cities with real bakeries. Merridee's is an absolute gem. The breads and pastries are fresh and delicious. I particularly recommend the Viking bread; I grab a loaf to take home every time I make it in. I also love to peruse their day-old bread selection, it's a great source for breads to be used in stuffings, bread pudding, french toast, etc. They also operate a cafe during the daytime hours. The coffee is good, especially when paired with one of their cinnamon rolls for breakfast. The sandwiches at lunchtime are made with the freshest of ingredients and the utmost care. They remind me of the sandwiches that my mother or grandmother made me as a child, only better because these are served on fresh-baked, artisan bread. I love their chicken salad the most. The counter service is quick and friendly, even at peak times. Parking is convenient in the free city-owned garage located just across the street or in the communal lot behind the arcade. I am a big fan of Merridee's! They have a great cappuccino for sure! Its seems to be rare these days to find a good cup of cappuccino these. I love Starbucks with a passion, but since its a corporate empire and there is not much accountability on the quality control I find they can seriously lack on the foam and proportions of the drink... Leaving you with a under quality caffeinated beverage. This is not the case every time I go to Starbucks though. Sbucks definitely has some passionate, quality driven Batista's working for them. Anyways....... Merridee's is far from a corporate empire or chain gain restaurant. It is locally owned and operated. The place has serious character and charm that greets you first thing when you walk in the door. I always head straight for the huge comfy leather couches! Thats the best spot honestly. They have a huge selection of fresh baked goods, and other treats throughout the day. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Whatever time you choose to visit this establishment you will be mighty pleased with the selection you have before you of tasty food. I've been visiting Merridee's since I was a child. There is one thing I can say about every visit is the Chicken Salad is the most delicious I've had and the lemonade is the perfect non-alcoholic thirst quencher in the area. For breakfast I love the Egg braid. When I lived in the area I ordered varieties of this for breakfast business events and they are all a hit. Also the fruit tea is wonderful if you are a fruit tea fan. This place is tradition to me and I hope they are around for years to come. read more

We've been here countless times; I've just never reviewed it. Meridee's is kind of our go-to spot when we are just hanging out or running errands in downtown Franklin. It's a very dependable place for good lunch or breakfast and a hot cup of coffee or tea. Always super busy so be prepared for that but today we managed to find a table for two had our order in about 15 minutes. I had the sampler lunch of a little bitty scoop of chicken, tuna and egg salad with a frozen cranberry salad and a piece of the best homemade raisin bread. Perfect size and so tasty! Hubby had the turkey reuben, which he devoured so it must have been spot on as well. We will come back here about 100 times I'm guessing. The staff is always friendly and polite. I think you're best off hitting Meridee's during peak rush in a twosome: one person secure a table, the other go order! There are multiple registers, so sometimes the line is a little wonky, but use that time to decide what you want so you can order quickly. The people are nice. Once, when my order was forgotten, a server picked up my ticket and fixed the issue very quickly. Sure, I could have been upset that people after me were getting food before me, but the server was trying her very best. And this is Franklin after all; if you want it to be fast like Panera, go to Panera. Meridee's is best enjoyed and savored. Meridee's is a sweet little gem. I really like the apple bacon panini and fruit tea. I am giving this place 3 stars because while we had a good experience, it wasn't anything special....A-OK sums it up. It was pretty packed when we got there (9:45am) which I suspect is normal for a Saturday morning. We found a 2-seater which was awkwardly placed in the middle of other tables - meaning a little hard to get to - but hey, sometimes you just want to sit down! I ordered an egg & cheese sandwhich on wheat bread, and he ordered an egg & cheese biscuit. I realized that they serve American cheese on their breakfast items (which I abhor), so I asked to have cheddar instead. No problem. I thought my husband heard me, but he didn't, so he ended up with the plastic-y stuff on his. He didn't mind too much but knows for next time. I also ended up getting a latte, and he got a regular coffee. I didn't think the coffee was anything special but it was fine. I liked my latte in a big mug. Nice. We finished off with a yummy sticky bun, which we had warmed up - YUM! My main complaint is around the attitude of the girl taking our orders. She did not smile & seemed a bit irritated by us - which didn't get things off to a great start. The coffee is fresh and they feature several roasts that they change every day. For breakfast, my favorite is the french toast with applewood smoked bacon. The french toast is cooked with house baked bread, list and fluffy, and served with most excellent maple syrup and powdered sugar. The bacon is always the best ever. Crunchy with just the right amount of chew, cooked in the oven to be perfect. My wife generally gets a pastry for breakfast. So it makes a perfect morning date place. Merridee's owns breakfast, but their lunch and recently added dinner options are good too. Great chicken salad, french dip, and a variety of paninis. Don't forget the dessert options including pies, brownies, cookies, and cakes. Skip the cupcake fad and go for a slice of Red Velvet made by actual bakers who have been doing this for awhile. Merridee's was such a fantastic find while I was wandering in Franklin, TN today. When I walked into the bakery/restaurant, I was overwhelmed by the options I had. Cakes, cookies, breads, food, coffee.. they had it all. What really got my attention though was the huge selection of day old baked goodies for 75cents! Im talking huge cinnamon rolls, scones, slices of pie. This was a great chance for me to buy a ton of things to try. I bought the viking roll-- a dense brick filled with dates and apricots. Ahmazing. And if that wasn't enough, I needed to go ahead and get myself a slice of fudge pie too. I love how budget friendly this place is. You can easily get a couple of treats and coffee for under $5. Also, you can buy a whole loaf of day old bread for $1.59. And not just plain breads. I was like.. what Jalepeno Cheddar for $1.59?! I also wanted to comment on how excellent the customer service was.
