Decided to come down to Franklin to get some lunch and found Merridee's on the list of restaurants nearby. Very reminiscent of a welcoming Cracker Barrel-esque atmosphere met with a cafe/coffee shop in my opinion. The menu is a little overwhelming since there's so many items to choose from, but that's not a bad thing at all! Just gives me more options to try next time. There's tons of different baked goods like pies and bread on shelves and more pies and some cookies in the little see-through cabinets at the ordering counter. I went with the chicken pot pie and a slice of key lime pie to top off the country-style cooking feel. The chicken pot pie was warm and flaky and didn't taste like it was reheated or anything like you'd usually expect from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, so I was happy about that. The key lime pie was the star of the meal. I LOVE key lime pie and this was some of the best I've had. I sorta regret not getting a whole one to bring back to my dorm room so that I could eat the entire thing tonight... But seriously, overall it was a very good experience. Honestly I would like to give Merridee's 2 ratings: Bakery & Dine-In experience. Both good but the Bakery gets a solid 5! Top of the line. Breads, pastries, pies, cookies, this is where it started and there is no question this is their "sweet spot" (ok, pun slightly intended). Seriously, indulge in a sweet treat or a freshly baked loaf of Viking Bread and you will not be disappointed! They also have a good menu for Breakfast and lunch. The Dine-In gets a 4 star rating. Very good still. I frequent Merridee's often. It's a great spot in downtown Franklin to meet folks and is usually busy, especially meals but do expect at least a short line most anytime. You order at the counter and they call you or bring it out. There is outdoor seating behind the space now so that's very pleasant, nicely planted with some great wood features makes it feel very comfortable. I think my favorite is their chicken salad on Viking bread and of course, add a piece of pie! (see my rant above regarding their bakery side of operations). The sandwiches are fine, but again the bread sets them apart. I have had the chicken salad plate and would have liked a few more greens under the salad to fill out the salad-ness of things. So 5 on the bakery, 4 on the dining, I will round up and go with 5 because at the end of the day, the dessert will be the lasting impression and that gets a 5. BREAKFAST IS NO LONGER SERVED AFTER 11 AM! My friends and I came here for brunch one day, AT 11:05 AM hearing all about their fresh baked goods and excited to chow down on eggs and carbs. I mean have you seen the pictures of their French Toast? That has amazing thrown up all over it! So you can imagine how excited we got only to realize breakfast had stopped being served 5 Minutes before we arrived. Heart.. Broken.. We ordered lunch anyways, being the hungry mongrels we are. I got the Little Viking espresso which was rich and magnificent, a salmon wrap which was surprisingly fishy for my liking, and a cinnamon twist pastry. My favorite thing about my order was definitely the Little Viking - You've got to order that if you're a coffee connoisseur and appreciate diverse, rich blends. My friends ordered a chicken quesadilla and some sort of bacon sandwich. The sandwich was good but the quesadilla we had to send back twice for reheating and the cheese was just cold and shredded like it hadn't been in the microwave long enough. The coffees, however, were delicious and well put together. My friend who hates coffee and only gets mochas to drink half of them and have a stomach ache, loved their iced mocha and said it tasted like "craft hot chocolate with a buzz." I would love to come back and try their breakfast menu to have the full Merridee's experience when i visit again. As for lunch, I'm not totally pleased but the service was well worth the visit as they were the kindest, most helpful people I'd met in Franklin. Hope to be back soon! read more

We stopped by during Pumpkinfest and were a bit apprehensive since there was a long line and were told the food would take 45 minutes, but we got our food quickly. I'm giving 4 stars because the staff were kind, the restaurant was clean, service was fast, and there was plenty of seating available. My fiancé and I just moved to Franklin from south Florida. We were looking for a good breakfast spot and stumbled upon Meridee's via yelp. It is now safe to say that this is our favorite breakfast spot in the area. This is a homey mom and pop style restaurant that is warm and inviting. They make fresh breads daily, have a large assortment of pies, coffees and make a killer breakfast. I've only gone twice so far and both times I have gotten ham, egg and cheese on a croissant. They have the most delicious croissants ever. They are buttery, soft, flaky, and slightly crunchy all at the same time. If you're looking for a nice breakfast sandwich I would definitely choose a croissant as your vessel. Also, today I picked up an order of biscuits and gravy for my fiancé and brought it to him at work. Shortly thereafter I got a text saying "OMG, this is the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had.".... safe to say I'll be trying that as well in the near future. Lol. As for their coffee, I was pleasantly surprised both times by how good their lattes were. My favorite I have tried was the gold rush. It was perfectly sweet and delicious. Also, after seeing and smelling all of the delicious freshly baked breads this morning I can't wait to return for a loaf. I am a long time resident of downtown Franklin, and Merridee's is not my first choice and here is why. I ordered a reuben (which came with chips) and a cup of soup for lunch today along with a fruit tea. The total with tip was $28.32. I am not a penny pincher by ANY means. However, considering they use old school wheat bread (think small squares like wonderbread) which gives you maybe 3 bites on each half of the sandwich, and a miniscule amount of corned beef, I was greatly disappointed. This was a $13.00 sandwich, and looked like something a middle schooler would get in a lunchroom. The soup was not good, bland. There are many great restaurants where the portions are more in line with pricing and better food. Lower your prices or give people an acceptable amount of food for what you charge. read more

I got a snickerdoodle cookie(scrumptious) as well as a latte (I didn't know they had that until the cashier asked me which one I wanted-cookie or latte). I've visited this restaurant before, but didn't even remember until I saw the storefront because the food was fairly forgettable. I placed a to go order, so keep that in mind while reading. I picked up my order and it was pretty quick, but I got back to my car and saw that they forgot my cinnamon roll. I went back in she apologized but said they had sold out... well I already paid for that cinnamon roll online... she offered me either a raisin cinnamon roll or a cinnamon twist-- no alternative, no refund even though they couldn't give me what I already paid for. This rubbed me a really weird way. I understand mistakes happen but I thought it was a little strange that I wasn't offered a refund or a free pastry or something to show they're sorry and appreciate my business. Not to sound too greedy, but in my experience with mistakes at bakery they almost always offer a baked good to apologize when mistakes are made. Again we had takeout so keep that in mind, but the food was very average. The biscuits were highly anticipated but they were bland. I ordered biscuits and gravy whisk came with one single biscuit and about a full cup of gravy, which seemed like a bit of a rip off. My friend got the biscuit sandwich and agreed it was pretty average. The cinnamon twist was good, but not a cinnamon roll and had much less icing. Maybe if I lived in Franklin it would be worth it, but coming from west nashville I can't say I'll be back for bland biscuits. If I'm in the area I might try dine in. read more

While walking around downtown Franklin during a holiday weekend my BF and I were hoping for somewhere fast and safe to eat lunch and Merridee was a great option. They were pretty busy but we didn't have to wait long to order from an employee at the register and decided on a chicken salad sandwich on wheat and a rueben sandwich plus a few fruit teas. Since they were busy we waited a bit for our food to come out, but luckily were able to stand outside of the restaurant in the nearby atrium to avoid being around too many people. With so many diners sitting and eating without masks we felt safer keeping our distance. The rueben was excellent and even I liked it, which is big since I'm more of a turkey gal. My chicken salad sandwich was good but the bread was dry and would have been better with a tomato or other additions, but it was only the chicken salad on dry bread and randomly lettuce. And for a bread place I was expecting something a little more from the wheat bread and thought it was pretty average to be coming from a bakery. The fruit teas were delicious, sweet but not crazy and a really nice way to balance out our sandwiches. One other small gripe that didn't make this a 5 star experience, they charged us for a pickle slice (.75) when they are typically free at a restaurant with sandwiches. Overall a solid lunch option but not quite perfect. read more

We both ordered the quiche Lorraine and it was outstanding!- I wanted to reorder the same dish as soon as I finished. I took my dog to the dog park this morning, and after afterwards, I went to Meridies to get my gravy and biscuits. They've always been good except this morning the biscuits were so hard I could not cut them with a knife. I took them back to the counter, and then they returned another set of gravy and biscuits. Another winner thanks to the Road Food book, Merridee's was on the way to our final destination in Spring Hill so we stopped off for a quick bite. YESSIR! We tried the reuben and the spinach and feta "crescent" sandwich, which was basically what you would expect: meats/veggies wrapped in an oversized crescent roll. Both of these were excellent, and the dip served with the reuben had my wife thinking about asking for more of that sauce to go. We also bought two brownies, one a mint chocolate brownie that was sensational. I would really be curious about this place for breakfast given that (while bread IS clearly being made throughout the day) more of their breakfast menu might take advantage of the bakery's strength. The space was bigger than I expected given the write-up in the book, so we were able to sit for dinner on a Thursday with our kids for a bit and have them run around the space. Parking behind the restaurant is terrible but there is a free parking garage across the street. This little stretch in Franklin has a nice walkable feel too. read more

Came here mid-week for a business lunch and will look for an excuse to come back. Downtown Franklin is a neat place caught between the past and the present, this place is an great example. Very vintage atmosphere, odd tables, mismatched chairs, cool memorabilia and wood floors are very welcoming. It is a walk up and order, leave a name and will bring it to ya, kind of place. At the suggestion of a local, I had the salad plate and it was amazing. Great egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad were served in pretty little scoops... but then there was the frozen fruit salad. I have not seen this item in years. It took me back to big family potlucks back home. It was the same, but better. This plate came with two big slices of raisin bread that were amazing. I ordered the chicken salad. It was the wrong choice. It would be by far the worst chicken salad I have ever had. It was bland, lacking any flavor. The only texture came from the stale bread that broke apart like sand in my mouth. They need to either change the recipe or remove it from the menu. Service was slow as well, with people receiving their food before us, who came in 20 minutes after us. On the flip side, they have reinvented the chicken pot pie. If you come here, order that dish and nothing else. The pot pie was full of flavor with a flakey crust filled with a moist medley of robust savory flavor of chicken and vegetables. read more

Noel and I went to Franklin to enjoy a movie at the Franklin Theater. We stopped at Merridee's Breadbasket Bakery, Noel enjoyed a slice of Pumpkin Roll and Mocha Latte. I also had a Tea Cookie and a cup of Hot Cocoa. We had a nice snack before the movie and I would definitely eat here again. They have a great bakery and the aroma's was divine. Merridee's is an adorable and homey casual breakfast & lunch spot in the heart of Downtown Franklin. With a simple breakfast and lunch menu, it was exactly the type of easy meal we were looking for. Here's how it works: wait in line, order at the counter, and give them your name. Then grab a table and set your card in the card holder and wait for your food to be brought to you. If you order coffee, you're free to take a mug by the coffee station and fill up as you please. We were a bit confused by how it all worked, so there you have it! Merridee's has a vast selection of pastries and baked goods lining the shelves by the register - enticing everyone as they wait in line to order. They also have a simple breakfast menu, that is only served until 11 AM, a hot lunch menu, that is only served after 11 AM, and then a simple deli menu that is served at all times. Everything on the menu is inexpensive, but it can definitely be disappointing if you want to order breakfast/hot lunch and you're there before or after 11 AM, so make sure you're going at the right time for you! We ordered the following: 2 EGGS // The 2 eggs breakfast comes with nothing other than your choice of toast. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and certainly fresh, as evident from their vibrant color. BISCUIT // The biscuit was delicious! It was crumbly and not too sweet. TUNA SALAD SANDWICH // The sandwich was good, not great. The tuna salad is made with sweet red peppers, onions, mayo, and... cream cheese. The cream cheese + peppers added an unnecessary sweetness, and the tuna salad was too smooth and creamy to my liking. The viking (multi-grain) bread was great, though! The sandwiches come with lettuce + mayo, and I added tomatoes. Not a sandwich I'm dying to have again, but I ate it. CINNAMON TWIST // Again, this was good, but not great. I'd definitely preferred if it was served warm. The insides were a bit dry, and just didn't live up to my expectations of a delicious moist and gooey cinnamon roll. CHESS BAR // Our favorite baked good by far. Indulgent and decadent and creamy and chewy and crispy on the edges. Honestly, I have zero idea what's in it, because when I asked the guy who took our order his response was "um....eggs. And some vanilla?". But whatever it is, it's good. Order this. LEMON BAR // And again, good, but not great. It was lacking a real punch of a lemon flavor.
