Kaitlyn got her braces off this August 2013 (still seeing him for retainer checks!); and Kimmie will be getting hers off soon. Dr. Lee is very professional and always ensures the highest quality of service. His team is super friendly! He goes out of his way to accommodate our hectic schedules. I had a HORRIBLE experience with Merrifield. I'm very self conscious about my teeth, to the point of emotional distress. I'm finally in a position with a good job and the financial ability to sign up for dental insurance that included orthodontic coverage. I was beyond thrilled to start the process of straightening my teeth. I went to Merrifield at the recommendation of my dentist. My consultation went great - although I was very stressed out about the financial commitment and made it very clear that I would need help choosing insurance that would help cover some of the cost. My consultation was in October and open season for insurance began in December. I spent the next couple months researching my insurance options and going back and forth with Merrifield in a series of phone calls and emails, asking questions about which insurance companies they accepted, how much insurance would cover, payment plans, etc. In the end, I decided, on the advice of Merrifield, that I would go with, let's say, X insurance company. I was thrilled - I was finally going to be able to straighten my teeth. But at the same time was accepting that I would now pay a monthly premium for dental insurance, as well as make payments towards my orthodontia work. I scheduled my initial appointment to start Invisalign for January 6, immediately after my insurance kicked in. I called the office on January 2 to remind them to run my insurance before my appointment that following Monday. She asked for my insurance information and as soon as I said I had insurance X, she said "well insurance X requires a predetermination of benefits and only has orthodontic coverage for people under a certain age unless it's medically necessary." My heart just dropped, I was dumbfounded. I immediately retorted that I had only chosen this insurance on the advice of THEIR OFFICE. I asked why no one had provided me this information when I was working with the office to choose insurance when clearly she knew this information the whole time. There was not a single ounce of sympathy, the people responsible for telling me insurance X was a good choice have never reached out to apologize, and at one point on the phone I said "so I'm just SOL?" And the girl responded "pretty much..." I understand that Merrifield is not responsible for what insurance companies choose to cover, but they should go above and beyond in helping their patients make an educated decision in the process of choosing insurance. It would have been in their best interest to have my business. So now I'm stuck making the insurance payments for a year while I get no benefit. In addition, my dream of fixing my smile was crushed. We LOVE Dr. Jones and both of our children have had rounds of braces. Professional staff and very clean. However, Every single interaction with the receptionist has been negative. She's often on her phone, texting or playing a game or checking her socials. She is abrupt and not friendly, whatsoever. It's a shame, too, because we love the practice! read more

I regret bringing my daughter to this place. She had an orthodontic treatment with Dr. Jones which didn't turn out to be as they promised. Her retainer bothers her a lot. They don't care because they haven't done anything about her retainer . Her regular dentist told me she still has an overbite so she might need another treatment later on to correct it. I feel like they removed her braces too soon. Front office employees are rude many times. Will never recommend this place. read more

I had a horrible experience with an assistant or tech named Beth who was rude and impatient with me and my 9 year old son. When I was trying to help him through the X-ray pictures because he was sensitive to the texture of the plastic piece on the machine, she snatched it off and threw it away and later told me I was "enabling" him by advising him to breathe through his nose. Very unprofessional and bizarre for a practice that is supposed to be used to working with all sorts of kids. Beth told me she didn't think my son was "ready" for an expander "because he couldn't do things that even a six year old could" referring to the X-rays, pictures etc. She said this in front of him with no awareness of her own role. Even though the cost they quoted was quite reasonable, we are going with a much more expensive practice because of how awful their attitude was. read more

This place sucks, told me they gave me a second retainer, I go to grab it after 6-7 days of using my first one then somehow losing it. The box they "gave it to me in" is Empty when their was a seal & I haven't touched it since I got my first set... Now I'm having to wait 5 days to get a new one & my teeth are gonna go back to the way they were... probably just wasted all that money & all that time because they couldn't actually put my second Retainer in the box... JUST SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE & GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, I wish I had of. read more

There is such great joy in knowing that you found the person who is genuinely doing what he meant to do in this lifetime. Dr. Lee is not only our son Skye's orthodontist, but he has become family to us, and we look forward to each and every visit with him. My husband and I met with THREE orthodontists before choosing Dr. Lee last year - two in Fairfax and one in DC. Something was missing with each initial visit though. I was told Skye had to have adult teeth pulled - because his mouth was too small to manage his adult teeth coming in. This was terribly difficult for me to understand and accept - not having had teeth pulled or braces myself - and some of the doctors were becoming quite frustrated with my inability to move forward with treatment. During our initial visit with Dr. Lee, he recommended the exact same treatment schedule for Skye as the other three doctors; however, he was by far the warmest doctor of them all - so humble and gentle. He explained in detail why Skye had to have adult teeth pulled, and answered all of my questions with patience and understanding. He applauded my concerns for Skye's dental health and asked that I contact him directly if I had any additional questions. After that one-of-a-kind experience, and finding that his price quote for Skye's treatment was extremely reasonable, the choice to go with Dr. Lee was simple for us. Dr. Lee has just moved to a brand new facility. The office is extremely clean and as technologically advanced as it can be. Between the subject matter expertise you're getting here, the amazing customer service, and the fancy new facility, Dr. Lee is #1 in our book. I am so happy that I followed my intuition and kept looking for the right doctor. After all, this is a 2-year commitment. We're hoping we get to keep him forever though! read more

I got TMD from the orthodontic work received and will probably never recover from it. THIS ORTHODONTIST JUST WANTS YOUR MONEY AND DOESNT CARE ABOUT YOU AFTER THE FACT. After getting my retainers, I came back expressing my bite feels extremely uncomfortable and Doctor Jones insisted it's because I'm stressed out, when I could feel my bite is off. She completely dismissed my problems and I now suffer permanent jaw damage and TMD symptoms (popping and grinding noises in my jaw, stiff jaw, soreness, difficulty opening my mouth wide, uncomfortable bite, and difficulty chewing medium to hard foods) because of it. This could have been avoided if she considered from the start that my bite is off, instead of just saying I'm stressed out and clenching. She denied any possibility that if I am clenching, maybe it's because my bite is so uncomfortable??? I came to her MULTIPLE TIMES because my bite felt so off and desperately needed help. I've seen multiple specialists who told me that I have a malocclusion (bad bite). I went to PT, received multiple splints, and still experienced discomfort. Finally 3 years later, I found an understanding dentist who adjusted my bite by grinding my teeth down, giving me slight relief. My bite still isn't perfect and probably never will be. It's been about 4 and a half years struggling with these TMD symptoms now. If you're ever in pain/are uncomfortable, don't let anyone make you feel crazy for it or tell you it's just because of stress!! You know your body best. I had someone make me feel like it's all my fault and that I'm stressed and now suffer permanent consequences. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone in fear that someone else comes to her with this problem and she ignores them once again. I hope no one goes through the pain and suffering that I went through and am still going through. read more

I have just completed my orthodontic treatment with Dr. Lee and I leave him with the highest satisfaction! I am an adult who had braces as a teenager, so I was not eager to undergo treatment again. Dr. Lee was very upfront with me from the very beginning about treatment options and expectations. He is very upbeat and has an innate ability to set patients at ease. I last rated this practice a year ago (Sept 2013) when we first started the process for orthodontics. Since that time, my review hasn't changed; in fact, if I could give them 6 or 10 stars, then I would. Dr. Lee is the kindest, most professional, easy to talk to man and knows his craft. My daughter is so comfortable being there and they make it so easy from soup to nuts. I look forward to going to each appointment. The one thing I noted when our dentist recommended him was that he studied art. My daughter is also taking art classes, and he is thrilled when she brings in something she's drawn. I highly recommend Dr. Lee and his staff at Merrifield orthodontics. He is very warm and gentle, my 11 yo daughter was at ease right away with him. He has a natural technical ability and seems to have an artistic bent which is a definite bonus. His staff is very friendly and competent as well. His fee was reasonable compared to others in the area. It's always good to get a few quotes anyway because orthodontics is a big investment even for middle class families. You won't be disappointed if you chose this practice. read more

I went in recently for some work on a retainer I had put in years ago, by a different Dr.. Dr. Lee was really nice, and the procedure was quick and easy.
