Very satisfied with the service but like with most things the keys to success are good communications and expectations management. With a bi-weekly service, I can count on coming home to a well-cleaned home. When it comes to those infrequent tasks, I have found that the expectation must be communicated if I want action taken (dusting ceiling fans, cleaning sliding door tracks, etc.) This makes sense because regardless what we think, the need may not be obvious to the cleaning crew (after all, we live there every day. They don't.) In terms of "what clean means," again, I've found this to be a function of communication. I had some spots on my floor that were not being removed, but after chatting with the crew I came to understand that a special treatment would be required (something well beyond the scope of housekeepers.) Occasionally, we do not get our "regular crew," and the difference is noticeable, not in a significant drop in quality but in the subtle differences in execution. Not a big deal, but if 100% consistency of execution is your thing, be sure to communicate your vision. And finally, I must highlight how friendly and accommodating the housekeepers are. Absolutely horrible service. Avoid at all cost. I hired them to do a first-time deep clean of my 1800 sq. ft. 4 bedroom house (which ended up taking them more than 5 hours and costed me nearly $700). But that wasn't where the problem began. After they did their cleaning, I inspected the house, and everything looked good. My wife came home and thought everything looked good too... until she saw the oven. The stainless steel panel was completely scratched up. We know they did it because it was a brand new oven and we never scrubbed it. Also, it was very obvious. When I called to complain, they said their team said it was already there and that they've been doing it for a long time and they know what they're doing. Didn't even stop to consider my side of the story or the possibility their team could've made a mistake. What's most disappointing is that I even asked them what they would do if they damaged something before agreeing to the service and they assured me they were insured. A business employee commented on my original review stating I have the wrong business, since merry maids doesn't service Newbury Park. Please note my home is in porter ranch and I do not have the wrong merry maids. My original review still stands SAVE YOUR $$$. If I could rate this business negative stars I would. I purchased a fairly new one story home and we decided to change the tile floors to hardwood. Due to the tile demo and wood installation there was a good amount of dust/debris that I wanted cleaned out before we moved in. Mind you the house was entirely empty, and we replaced all the flooring and toilets etc. I hired merry maids to dust/clean the surfaces, floors, windows, showers, and oven. I provided my own cleaning materials, some of which went missing later. It was a friday and they sent two women to clean the house per our agreement. 30 min in they sent a third cleaner to "help". Not only did she go missing for a couple hours, but she was on her phone during the time I count account for her. In the 4.5 hours she was there, she vacuumed my house and ignored the windows. The vacuum cord left black marks all over the corners of my brand new white moldings which left me scrubbing them with a magic eraser. My in-laws were there and decided to clean the windows themselves since they weren't being cleaned by the cleaners. I was later charged extra for this third "helper", since she was an extra head. I called and asked why I had to pay extra when I didn't request her and was told it was a 3 day weekend so the manager wanted them to finish faster and leave earlier...on my dime. Of the other two cleaners, one of them was decent and honest so I can't really complain about her. She gave me the heads up that the windows weren't done after the third cleaner said she did them. The remaining one was lazy and although it was her job to clean the kitchen, it was still covered in dust and the oven looked untouched when she "finished". My MIL and I had to scrub the kitchen after they left. I was extremely dissatisfied with the service I received and the extra charge so I called to speak with the original lady I booked with. I sent her photos and videos of how dirty they left my house and her response was, "I think they did the best they could". My jaw dropped at that response. I don't understand how these people are still in business when their standards are so low. Do not book for a deep cleaning- they will not deep clean. We had the same experience that so many people here had. We booked a Merry Maids service for a deep cleaning of an empty house prior to move in (3 bdrm, 2 bath). Scheduling and organization went smoothly- because the house was empty, we initially booked for three hours and requested they prioritize deep cleaning of the kitchen and bathrooms, then windows and door frames, then, if they had time, the floors. You can see in our contract the note of deep cleaning. Day of, the two ladies who came were very punctual. The service, however was NOT a deep cleaning, it was very superficial, and the maids attempted to leave early once, and then actually did leave early. We showed them the list of prioritization and after about an hour/hour and a half, they said they were finished and were going to go. They thought they were just doing the bathrooms and kitchen- my husband told them that, no, we wanted the whole house deep cleaned, so now that they were done with the areas to prioritize, they could move onto the next. They made it all the way to the floors after a total of 2 hours 45 mins, then they told us they were done and left. I took pictures right after because we paid for a deep cleaning and there was so much not done/dirt and grime left (see pictures- these are just SOME of the pictures I took of areas not cleaned/cleaned poorly). Dirt on the floors, around windows, hair in the shower, residue on the toilets, smudges on glass, literal cobwebs left on things. We called the service right after to see if they could come back or if we could be charged for a regular cleaning instead of deep cleaning, they said that because the maids only had 3 hours, there wasn't enough time to do a deep cleaning, and they could do nothing about it. First of all, that was not called out previously when we were scheduling. Second of all, they left before 3 hours was up, so it seems that they thought they had completed the service early, it's not like they didn't get to things because they ran out of time. Third- we asked them to prioritize the kitchen and 2 bathrooms- those at least should have been deeply cleaned, and they had parts still dirty. The service was not what we paid for and Merry Maids only said they would refund us for the 15 minutes early that the maids left (we haven't received that, yet, but it has only been 4 business days). We paid $400+ dollars for a deep cleaning and we had to clean up after the service. Will not be using again and would not recommend to anyone. read more

It was a really really terrible service. I just moved into Stevenson Ranch on Jun.3rd. Given that I asked for the deep cleaning move in service on Jun.2nd. They originally said it would take 3 to 5 hours to finish everything. And if it needs more than 5 hours they will call me to get the permission to continue. Well it finally took 12 hours to clean 2,882 sq ft house and they never called me to get the permission. As talk, they only wanted to refund 2 hours to me. In other words they still would charge me 10 hours at $140 per hour....It's so ridiculous....Two ladies took 12 hours from 11:30AM to 23:30PM to clean my house.....and they told me they would take care of everything and called me if they need more time....but finally nothing happens as they said.....Since I authorized my credit card in advance so they totally charged $1,680 (so far I didn't get $280 refund).....I don't like that style which is not honest to customers and do whatever they want to do....I think that company just leverage the brand name to do business,but it actually destroyed its reputation. My mother had initially been referred to Marsha at Merry Maids by way of Cleaning for a Reason (a charity that provides housecleaning services for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment.) After numerous phone calls and scheduling conflicts Marcia and my mother had finally arranged for a first visit but unfortunately my mother passed away before this could take place. When I called Marsha to cancel my mother's appointment her response was amazing. She was kind and seemed to be genuinely affected by my mother's passing. She went above and beyond and recounted funny anecdotes of all of the scheduling conflicts that the two of them had encountered. She also sent a condolence card to my family which went above and beyond. She offered me assistance in preparing the house which at the time I declined. About a month after my moms death I realized that I would need assistance in cleaning and preparing for her celebration of life party. I called Marsha in a panic because I had waited until the last minute and needed services for the following afternoon. I don't know how she did it but she was able to schedule two of the sweetest, kindest most hardworking women I have met in a very long time, even with the ridiculous lack of notice I had provided. They did an amazing job on the house, within time allotted and if i lived in Los Angeles permanently I would definitely ask them to come back. I hired them to clean, wipe and dust. They didn't do anything that I had asked for but clean bathroom's that took them 4 hours. I don't know what else they did that took 4 hours and when I keep asking they say the team of 2 were overwhelmed. My home was picked up just needed to be dusted and wipe down. My family and I don't live like slob's but they are acting as if we do! Thank God for my pictures that I took. Also, they have extra prices that they don't talk about until you dispute their services. All of a sudden there are these new prices they came up with. They cleaned my sons room and didn't put things back and it looked sloppy. His bed was already made and they just tossed things on it. I have before pictures and after and they went through my stuff and left oil on the counter that wasn't there before they got there I have pictures. I asked them if they wiped down the doors and base boards and under the table they said, yes mam. I said, are you sure? I had to show them the finger prints still there and they said, oh we forgot. I have never used a professional cleaning service and so I relied on reviews on Yelp and also an acquaintance. After my initial contact with the Granada Hills office, Nelda Haas, office manager, came to our home to go over what was needed. I felt a "deep" cleaning was necessary. Nelda provided me with a quote, discussed rates for subsequent visits and frequency. Nelda was very pleasant and professional. She answered my questions and went over Merry Maids services in detail. Carole and Reyna arrived early and got to work immediately. My husband and I were here and occupying one of the rooms which we had decided did not need cleaning. It is basically used as our computer room, we have file cabinets and very little furniture. The ladies spent 4 hours cleaning a 7 room home, including wood laminate floors that are throughout the living/dining/hall area. This is a 1246 sq. ft. home and the ladies covered every bit of it. When they finished the job, Carole urged me to go through the house and if there was anything they missed, let her know so that it could be addressed immediately. I did tour the home and I was ecstatic with the job these two ladies did on a house that is 60 years old, had not been cleaned on a regular basis when it was occupied by an aging family member. These ladies hit all the high notes and were very detailed going over areas that aren't normally noticed. The wood floors haven't looked this good since they were installed. The appliances sparkled. Not a speck of dust remained on anything. Kitchen sinks, bathrooms, toilets, shower/tub were all addressed and looked wonderful afterwards. The ladies were nice but I was misled. that being said I got a bill which was $75 more than quoted and I'm told it's because three ladies came to my house and cleaned it and we're here for 2 hours. they reneged on their quotes given. So if you want your house cleaned for the price originally told to you by the owner, then don't go here. I can't afford to have someone charge me 75.00 dollars more then you've been quoted. NEVER use their service. My boyfriend had them coming on a regular basis until I noticed things were not getting clean properly but they were getting a fat ass check and a fat ass tip. They would come do the bare minimum and leave with a very generous tip, mainly because guys were in the house and no one double checked the work. Now we only call them on a occassional basis. The last visit was the last straw. 4 hours to clean a house that was already pretty much clean AND they did not have to do all the rooms. The kitchen counters were still dirty, one room still had pieces of trash on the floor, in the master bathroom the soap dish, soap dispenser, etc were all not put back just stuffed in a corner, and they did not even touch the living room, I had to ask one of the ladies about the living room and with an attitiude she said "oh no we are out of time we can not do that" . So my question is what did you do for 4 hours, the bathrooms were the only things cleaned decent. And then woman in charge just pops in my house, no ringing of the door bell, so I proceed to tell her about my concerns and instead of hearing me out, the paying customer, she wants to argue and defend their work, so I walk her to the kitchen show her the sticky counters, the dirty oven door, then walk her to a room and picked up the trash off the floor in front of her that could have easily been vacuumed. Then she tells me well you had them make up beds, they put sheets on one bed, I was in the room that took maybe 5 minutes and they did it together. The next excuse which was the bestt was "you had us coming on regular basis before and we haven't been in a while so it took them longer." LMAO. You see the things that needs to be clean and you clean it. Very simple. I believe that really didn't have much to do so they were hanging around downstairs, I should have monitored their every step right, like they're in grade school. Overall a lackluster job, and then bad customer service. At the end she did have them straighten the pillows on the couch and clean the mirror in the living room because she knew damn well in 4 hours much more should've been done especially since the house was already straightened up. I can't stand bad service. If this is your job, do it right. No one forced you to be in the profession, that was a choice, at least have a little pride in your work. No more merry maids. read more

I had called to have our new house cleaned before we moved in and spoke to Nelda. She said the cleaners could come the following Monday. I asked if they could come at two. She called back on Saturday telling me the cleaners would be there between 1 - 3. They could not just say 2. Alright. I hired a babysitter to watch my daughter so I could be at the new house at 1. The cleaners did not show up at my house until 3:45! I never received a phone call telling me they were late. I called them. I was treated very brusquely on the phone and was never apologized to. I had to leave at 5:30 to pick up my daughter. One of the cleaners left early to pick up her child - leaving her other colleagues to finish the job. They did a very rushed job and were unable to clean half the things I had needed for them to clean. What they did clean was alright, but not as clean as I had hoped. When I had asked them to come clean I was given a very lengthy explanation about their harsh cancellation policy. However, there was not even an apology from them for being almost two hours late and wasting my time and money. I was planning on having them come once a month. Merry maids charged me $270.00 for 3 hours of work (when I was not present). They ignored my request to first get prioritized tasks done by not doing them at all. I paid almost 300 dollars for them to vacuum, sweep and clear trash that would have taken me less than hour to do myself. There were two maids that said they did 3 hours work. I was ripped off because I wasn't there monitoring. They hardly did 20 minutes of work and I would have ordered a lot more of there services many times in the future had they treated me fairly. I am completely dissatisfied and my money was basically stolen from me. Let's see if they care about their customers. I will update this review if they contact me (services ordered with name Tawnya Dilley) and rectify. I"m going with 3 Stars ( Their current average )although my review is about the initial quote process because, after reading their reviews I cancelled the scheduled 1st service. The reviews go on about the price change in what was quoted and what charge on the credit card which they demand getting your Credit Card number at the time of the quote. The quote leads you to believe it is $221 for a Bi-weekly cleaning HOWEVER, they slip in the chargeable price of a team of 2 for 4 to 5 hours is $90 per hour. In essence, the bill for Biweekly cleaning would be $450 each 4-5 hour visit. I'm sorry but, I will clean my own house for that price and then use the money to buy a new pair of Red Bottoms at the end of each month. When I cancelled, I received an immediate email lambasting me for even considering Yelp Reviews. How could I not when most of the negative reviewer say the same thing. I was also told I was looking at the wrong Merry Maids, "it's a different office" I was told. If I look at the Reseda office they only have 2 stars. So which office did I get? Reed for 2 Yelp Stars or Granada Hills for 3 Yelp Stars? Both are nothing to be proud about. My husband and I recently bought a house, and the previous owners had lived here for 17 years. They also had a dog. Needless to say, the house had years of built up dust and grime and dog hair, and I wanted to move into a clean house. I contacted several cleaning companies, but I ended up going with Merry Maids because I liked that they specifically talked about move in and move out cleanings on their website. I thought that meant they understood what was involved in a deep cleaning. They asked me a few questions about the house, like how many square feet and how many bathrooms. Unfortunately, it is not their policy to look at a house ahead of time to give an accurate estimate. They told me they would send 2 ladies and that it would take 5-6 hours. I specifically expressed concern about the maids wearing shoes in the house. We have a no-shoes in the house policy (I have a 1-year-old who still crawls), and I wanted to make sure the floors would be clean. They assured me that they would wear shoe covers and that they clean themselves out of rooms. So, it came to be the day that they were to clean the house. My husband let them in the house. We hadn't moved in yet, so I wasn't there. He called me though to ask me what they were supposed to clean and I said "everything." We were in and out of the house during the day getting other things done like having the locks changed and waiting for our furniture to be delivered. We assumed the maids were working steadily throughout the day. After about 5 hours had passed, a third lady, Eva, who I talked to on the phone when I booked the service, arrived at the house and said she was there to help them finish. She made a long list of excuses saying that the house was bigger than they realized (they asked the square feet over the phone and I told them) and showed us how, for example, the base boards still look dirty even though they cleaned them. She claimed that there was nothing there to wipe away. We were busy getting ready to move in, and I honestly wasn't into micromanaging, so I assumed they would finish the job. She also said she arrived to bring the maids shoe covers...meaning that they worked for 5 hours without shoe covers even though I was told they would wear them the whole time. Hmmm. After we moved in and were actually living here for like, a day, I realized that my house was not actually clean at all. It was my worst nightmare. I had paid $660 for a move-in cleaning, and I moved into a dirty house assuming that it was clean. The base boards and crown moulding were covered in dusty. There were closets that were clearly never even opened - that's how dirty they were. I took pictures. There were crumbs and stray hairs in the kitchen cabinets and stray hairs and dirt in the bathroom cabinets. Worst of all, our feet were black after walking around the house barefoot (we're Caucasian) including my 1-year-old's hands, knees and feet. That's how much dirt was on the floor. I called and talked to Eva several times asking for a refund. The suggested having another 45 minutes of free cleaning service, but I was like, that's not going to help, and I can clean better than your maids. I don't want them to come back again and not clean my house. She said she would talk to her manager and eventually offered me a 1-hour reimbursement, but I didn't want to pay $550 for a supposed deep cleaning when my house was still covered in dirt, grease and grime. Now we're told they don't do refunds only recleans. That's unacceptable. I feel like I threw away the money. We don't have money to throw away. I've honestly never hired maids before and I doubt that I ever will again. I could've bought a ton of cleaning products for $660 instead of throwing it away on maids who probably sat around talking upstairs instead of cleaning the house. DO NOT HIRE MERRY MAIDS unless you just want to throw your money away. Can I take them to small claims court or something? I need to look at my options to get my money back. read more

We planned a Labor Day pool party this year, so I decided to have Merry Maids do a "Spring Cleaning" on my house prior to the party. I had Nelda come out to do a physical estimate, and she seemed very professional, giving me an estimated total of 4-5 hours to complete the whole house. On the day of the service, they spent the entire 5 hours, but had only cleaned half of the house, leaving 4 rooms of our 1500 sq ft house untouched, and the guest bathroom not completed! In addition, they had asked to use some of my cleaning supplies (some bleaching products) and left us with a totally clogged up guest bathroom drain! As this drain had been functioning well prior to their visit, I called repeatedly to see if Nelda would help remedy the problem. She just continued to repeat the "mantra" that their products would not clog a drain (and said it must have been slow before!) and refused to send anyone out to unclog the drain or even offer any assistance with the extra costs I incurred to do so!! So, for the $475 they charged me, I got half of a house cleaned and an extra plumbing bill!! Since they split the bill into two parts (the 4-hr and the last hour), I may reverse charges on that last part to offset my plumber costs. I would have rated them lower, but I liked Nubia the cleaner. read more

Merry Maids has been cleaning my home for several years. The crews are always on time, thorough and very conscientious. They use the products I would use myself. They are willing to work with me if I have scheduling problems. I recommend them highly. read more

The 2 woman team did less in 3 hours than my housekeeper (retired) did by herself in four hours....and charged my 3 times the money. DO NOT USE! The stuff they did is fine, and clean. I do like they use their own supplies. read more

DO NOT GO WITH THIS SERVICE! The maids will steal valuables and the company won't do anything about it. The girls will also profusely complain about how poorly the company treats them. They unethically treat their workers and only pay them 20%. FIND A DIFFERENT SERVICE! read more
