I was with a friend in the neighborhood and we both decided to get mani/pedis. Decided to give Merry's a try-- she was very friendly and things felt pretty peaceful inside. They did a great job-- My mani/pedi has lasted longer than the ones I've gotten at other places. I always feel bad for the technician that gets stuck with my feet-- running hasn't been kind to my toes. But, they were very friendly and professional here, I was surprised and relieved! Has anyone else noticed that the sign outside says "Merry Manicures" but the aprons the women wear say "Mary Manicures?" This has confused me to no end. I can just imagine that in the process of either ordering the aprons or the sign, someone got very confused. Anyways, for 10 bucks this place is awesome. They do a fabulous job, the polish stays on solid for a week, and the women who work here are very friendly. Plus, I friend it much less pretentious than Teashi, not to mention much more wallet friendly. I also love not having to make an appointment. For me, getting my nails done is never a planned event, more like "ho hum it's a boring rainy day, I guess I'll get my nails done." I'll be coming back long after the coveted OPI color "Lincoln Park After Dark" has been banished from nail salons everywhere. read more

Merry is the only manicurist in the City that I've been to that can paint white gel correctly: thin and even. I don't trust anyone else to paint my nails. She is also a very sweet and genuine person as well as her staff. Prices are average for the area. read more

I called ahead, asked how much for a gel pedi. Lady told me $30. Great! Said I would see her shortly. Come in, and I ask again and they say nothing. Later as I'm sitting in the chair getting my previous color scrapped off, she says to me "I'm going to make this clear to you. $40 for gel pedicure." After I called, and asked again in person!! Had my prior pedicure not been scrapped and my nails not already half cut, I would have just walked out. But they knew I couldn't do that once I had already sit in the chair and work had started. The one thing I was happy with here is that my mani lasted quite awhile. Mary is a sweetheart, but the place is just a little grungy. After finishing up my pedi, I moved over to the couch for a mani. Another girl had just finished up and my nail technician asked me to put my hands on top of the dirty, wet towel the previous client had used. I had to ask for a clean towel. Ick. D and I went together, obvi, but I was finished with my mani before hers even started - She had to sit and watch my mani while a girl who arrived after us (as a walk-in) had her toes done. First experience was decent. I went with two of my girlfriends and they did a pretty good job... but they were clearly short staffed and my two girlfriends were all done and dry before I was even started on. Totally forgivable... that's just the way business is sometimes. Second experience was eh. They didn't know how to remove the OPI gel polish. I have a serious problem with that. If you sell it and apply it... then you should know how to get it off right? Anyway, only one of the ladies knew how to remove it which relieved some of my irritation. But once again they seemed short staffed... so they rushed my manicure, didn't even file my nails, and did a total crap job at applying the polish. Hmmm... Third experience was garbage. My friend and I were the first people in there... yet somehow 10 ladies that showed up after us were gone before we were. Didn't know a mani/pedi could take 2.5 hours but it does at Merry Manicures! Once again they were super short staffed. The problem is they don't tell any customers that they don't have time for them and they just keep seating all the walk ins... then attending to the walk ins and ignoring all the people that have been sitting there soaking their feet for an hour. Oh! Might I add I had to remove my own gel nail polish myself with a scraper thing they handed me? That was awesome. I will NEVER go back there. I said I'd let you know when I got a pedi here, so here I am, being true to my word. PROS: The painting job is fine. The polish didn't seem watered down (you can always bring your own color if you worry about this). As I've said before, KC Nails is my main go-to, but they were filled up so Merry Manicures has become my Plan B (they definitely take walk-ins). CONS: The main thing you need to know: If you are asked to sit in the massage chair, and accept, your pedi just went up to $24. With tip that's $30. Still cheap, but the chairs didn't work all that well on me. Either way, I would have liked to have been notified of the different price. I realize most of the women who work here don't speak English perfectly yet, but I do have trouble communicating from time to time. CONCLUSION: The pros and cons of the pedicure weighed each other out, so I'm keeping this as a three star. read more

Came here today because my usual place was closed. The women were very nice and the place was very relaxing. I got a spa pedicure and gel manicure. The woman that did my pedicure did a great job and the massage was nice. My gel manicure was not so great- she filed my nails crooked and I had to ask her to fix it- it still wasn't ok- when she walked away I had to file it on my own. The gel application was also very messy and it ended up all over my cuticles. Don't think I will be coming back to this place. read more

She is so sweet and probably the best wax person ever...My skin never reacts badly to getting waxed here (I broke out in a rash after going to Union Nails across the street) The pedicure I got from them lasted through a whole week of running around on the beach! If I didn't have a gift certificate for a mani/pedi to use, I would have walked right out the door the minute I entered. Their color selection seemed small compared to other places I've been, but I survived, picked my color and moved on. My biggest gripes are their lack of cleanliness and overall poor service. There was a puppy that would not stop yapping, loudly, for the first 15 minutes I was there. None of the owners or employees seemed to mind, but as a paying customer for a treatment that is supposed to be relaxing it was miserable. Once the dog relieved himself (#1 and #2) on the floor, he seemed to quite down. The woman next to me was waiting for a manicure, but at this sight, looked at me and said, "I'm outta here." That was after they handed her a wet/used towel to cover the pillow they were going to do her manicure on. I wish I had gone with her. They also had fake nails scattered on the floor and I stepped on 2 as they moved me from the spa chair to a regular chair. If you ever find yourself in a mani/pedi spa and within one hour a dog craps on the floor and they have fake fingernails lying around as trash, leave, you're probably at Merry Manicures! read more

I love Merry Manicures. I started going to them when I lived a few blocks away 7 years ago. After moving out of state for five years and coming back, they actually remembered me. Amazing! I like their hours and the fact that you can show up close to closing and they'll usually squeeze you in. I try to go here if I happen to be in Russian Hill, since all the other places on Polk need an appointment on Saturday or Sunday. They're not as posh as the other nail salons in the area but they do a great thorough job with their pedicures (I haven't had a mani in years so I don't really know how good they are at that). I've been coming here for over a year and will keep coming. Mary does a great job on waxing, especially in those sensitive areas and the pricing is great. I just walked out of Merry Manicures with just that-- a manicure. After a long morning at the computer (on Yelp, of course) I realized that my nails were shot and I wanted to get out in to the sun for a short walk. I quickly took a look through some Yelp reviews of local nail salons and decided to try Merry Manicures. It was 2:45 in the afternoon. The place was empty, save two employees. One asked me to choose a color, which I did, and I sat down. The manicure was thorough, the hand massage just a bit longer than standard, and my nails look much better. I was out the door by 3:10. For a $10 manicure (plus tip), I am pleased and will probably go back. The only thing I didn't like was that it was so quiet during the manicure, that it felt a little awkward... but I'm sure that changes as the place gets busier. Note: I was glad I brought cash. If you are looking for an inexpensive manicure/pedicure in this area, this is the place to go. It is so much nicer than the other inexpensive places around. The spa chairs are really good and the leg and arm massages were great. They can get a bit busy so it might not be a bad idea to make an appointment. Also, their selection of nail polish wasn't as extensive as I've seen elsewhere, so you may want to bring your own. They only take credit cards if your bill is over $20, and there was no place to add a tip to my credit card charge, so ask about tip before they run it or bring cash for the tip. read more

They do a fine job of prepping your nails, but when it comes to French manicures, take your business elsewhere unless you're cool with a sparkly pink base and uneven tips. Mid-way through my polish application another nail tech took over, leaving my hands looking completely different from each other. Despite the fact that I specified that I liked a thinner tip, the tips on the second hand were about twice as thick as the first hand, leaving me looking totally unbalanced. Moral of the story? As soon as I was out the door, I rounded the corner and made for Pacific Nails as fast as I could to have my nails redone. read more

I LOVE Merry Manicures! I have been to many nail salons here in San Francisco and a lot of them seem all the same-I have expected better quality from some salons on polk that have better decorations/cuter atmosphere but still end up getting the same nail experience. But merry manicures is different. Everyone who works there is very friendly and goes out of their way to make you comfortable, relaxed and they let you know if they CAN or CAN"T do the service. (I hate when you ask and they say yes but then wait foreverrrr) One thing that is outstanding here is the massage-it is AMAZING, Every time i get a mani or pedi the massage is the best part and I hate when ts not good--these ladies are wonderful!! If I could give this 0 stars, I probably would. I don't often feel compelled to write bad Yelp reviews, but in this case had to. I ended up here due to lack of availability other places. It started bad - we had a 4pm appointment and had to wait until almost 4:30pm to even get helped. I felt rushed through the entire process of my mani pedi, and they definitely did not do a good job scrubbing feet, etc. She cut my nail cuticles twice to the point where I was bleeding and didn't even apologize. The most annoying part was that literally an hour after I left the place two of my nails fully peeled off. I understand that to some point you get what you pay for, and the mani pedi was only $30. As a result I wasn't expecting a spa level pedicure. That said, there are so many other places nearby (Utoepia, Juicy Nails, etc) that charge only $5 more and have a far superior experience. read more
