Our second stop on our tour was Merryvale. The guy that took care of us was very friendly and knowledgeable. The event space was absolutely incredible with massive barrels and beautiful table settings. The wine was probably my least favorite from the 3 wineries we visited, but everyone has their own taste. Re-established my account, Joined their wine club, and put in an order for two (2) bottles of wine. Three days after placing the order, there was no verification that the order had been received or fulfilled. Contacting the winery, I was informed that I had to submit a copy of my drivers license to verify my date of birth. WHAT...? Where is this requirement posted in establishing an account, or, in the online order form...? Then I was told that I had to send the copy of my photo ID to an email address that does not appear anywhere on their website -- a red-flag that usually indicates online fraud. The first tall tale began with their assertion that this is required by the State of California. FALSE. In speaking with the agency that regulates the establishment and operation of wineries in the state, I was sent a reference to the regulations and the full text of what the state requires of these companies: the customer is asked to verify they are at least 21 years of age, or, they must furnish their date of birth. After confronting those concerned with this tidbit of truth, the State of Arizona was blamed. Contacting their Phoenix office, I was assured that the customer is required to either verify they are at least 21 years of age, or that they give their date of birth. In other words, there is no requirement to furnish them with a copy of my drivers license. After this lie was disproved, Merryvale said that they have to verify that the wine is going to an individual and not a business that offers it for resale. What? How does a copy of my drivers license do this? This makes NO sense at all. After this egregious claim -- totally lacking in common sense -- fell, I was told that more than likely, there are likely one of three reasons why Merryvale has done this: (1) my use of a VPN, which keeps hackers at bay; (2) my refusal to accept their cookies, which my company's security manager says are rich with online tracking software; and/or (3) having different billing and delivery addresses. Whistlestop's post office has a different ZIP code than that of my delivery address -- even though the post office is less than 1000 feet from my residence. One or a combination of factors is the likely cause of my account being red-flagged, if the truth be told. Last of all, the Merryvale personnel I've spoken with over the past three days have blamed fraud for the need for this unusual and reckless requirement. In other words, they believe that some aspect of my order is fraudulent... and it is insulting to be treated first as a dolt incapable of fact-checking their egregious claims, and being told that they suspect me of fraud. Fraud? The charges for my order of two bottles of wine were deducted from my account within m8nutes of placing my online order. What fraud that is, I don't know. After all, Merryvale withdrew the funds for my purchase from my credit union, one established for active duty or retired military personnel -- and veterans (which I am). My late wife and I were introduced to Merryvale wines by one of their managers, the brother-in-law of my best friend, a Seattle restauranteur, who was Best Man at my 1984 wedding -- 41 years ago. We often featured their wines at the philanthropic events we hosted for years in California's Central Valley, either purchasing it at the winery by the case, or ordering by telephone for shipment. In the past few weeks, I've ordered wines from six different California wineries after we built a wine cellar; we've ordered wines from these six companies and eleven others -- all of them California wineries -- to stock our wine cellar over the last year. NOT ONE OF THESE OTHER 17 WINERIES REQUIRED ME TO FURNISH THEM WITH A COPY OF MY DRIVERS LICENSE. Sadly, as much as I like their wines, I don't appreciate being either lied to or treated as though I've done something fraudulent in my order. I don't respect a stranger who recklessly accuses me of fraud. I don't know what Merryvale is doing: neither do they. As much as I like their Cabernet Sauvignon, there are better wines made by clearly better,wineries to order from -- and Merryvale's treatment of me as a customer just isn't worth it. I refuse to do business with a company that shamelessly lies to me... not a good way to restart a relationship. Pass. . read more

We had been to two wine tastings at other wineries in Calistoga. We decided to swing around to St. Helena where Merryvale's wine tasting room is located since we decided to take in another experience. While we didn't have any reservations, we could have a couple of glasses of wine at the main bar, which was very nice, as was the bartender who served us. We enjoyed the red and white we ordered, while taking up a couple of stools at the bar. The wine tasting room was spacious and rustic but polished due to the light woods used for the bar counter and gift shop area. There was a stoned cellar room for more private tastings. Overall, it was a good spot to enjoy some local wine by a winery out of Napa Valley, and very convenient if you are spending the day in downtown St. Helena. read more

Nice wine tasting experience. Book in advance and pay in advance for the tasting. We enjoyed our experience and they let us add a wine into our tasting. They had all the glassware and water setup for us when we arrived and the whole experience was rounded out by outstanding staff. No one was too stuffy and everyone was knowledgeable and friendly. We chatted quite a bit about a places to eat and places to go. We were members back in the day, but we are not big drinkers and the shipments would come in too frequently for us. We built up a huge stash in a year. However, I do recall the wines in the shipment were excellent. read more

My friends took me here for the February chocolate + wine pairings and it was so good! They partner with a local chocolate-maker to exclusively supply their chocolates. The wine was good but I particularly loved their Antigua (dessert wine) -- definitely ask to sample. This place is now in my list of top 5 wineries in Napa. Recently went with friends at the recommendation of a local distributor. Snacks were typical cheese, nuts, and crackers to keep your palate neutral during tastings. The atmosphere was so cool though. One of the oldest operations in Napa, and the wines are fantastic. They also sell Profile as their higher tier wine, but we loved the Merryvale wines for their excellent quality for the price. read more

It gave our special evening the flair that only Merryvale can. From their award winning wines to their uniquely friendly and accommodating staff. Chantelle and her team worked their magic to provide an amazing evening. From the caterer, Tre Posti, to the florist, Berry & Bloom, the evening was beyond what we had imagined. We returned to Merryvale today for their 2021 Harvest Party. Everyone on the staff was happy, attentive and polite. We're not wine club members but we paid to attend because we really do love their wines. They really went out of their way to make sure we all had a great time, and we did! One of my favorite wineries in Napa Valley. I prefer the profile wines, although the newer Forward Kidd red blend was also pretty good. The water feature and lilac covered pergola greet you upon arrival to the winery. You enter the tasting room and are immediately greeted by a larger than life wraparound bar. Smiling wine connoisseurs greet you and provide glasses of water and a complimentary small pour of sparkling champagne to whet your taste buds. There are three levels of tastings offered, I chose the profile tasting because I already knew I would be purchasing a few of my favorite selections. You're not rushed through your tasting at all, I arrived at 4pm and didn't leave until closing at 5:30. The staff were very accommodating and super entertaining. All I have to say is ........I usually walk out of a winery with a bottle...maybe 2, but after the AWESOME service by Armando and team, I walked out with 6. Nuff said. I had heard of Merryvale, but, i wasn't that familiar. I'm a big fan of Starmont wines and they still do the Starmont wine tasting here now that Starmont is closed (in Napa/Carneros). I have nothing more to say other than this was an awesome experience -- instead of chintzy pours, we were able to sample a wide variety of pinots -- and Armando was an awesome host. I have nothing more to say other than these folks KNOW wine. Super impressed -- and we visit Napa on a regular basis. If you like pinot noir, head to Merryvale where they still do the Starmont tastings and enjoy a beautiful tasting. read more

I like the name to this wine venue. However, the place is more like a warehouse instead of a vineyard wine layout that I tend to prefer since we are in Napa Valley to explore vineyards more than staying in. Glasses are shiny and they present all the tastings to you in one whole set. It was a great outing, nonetheless. I think it was a record for me to visit 4 vineyards in 1 trip of Napa Valley county. I was pretty buzzed when coming here so the wine flavors didn't stand out too much for me here. By then, I felt like it was all the same or I couldn't simply remember with all the previous pours. Friendly staff. It's lacking signature memories for me, besides that it was right across from Gott's yummy burgers! Maybe it was because I was beyond buzzed. I'm a fan, to say the least. read more

PHENOMENAL! My mother and I showed up on a misty Sunday and had an amazing experience at this gem of a winery. Assistant Manager, Jeremy Maron greeted us and walked us through an incredible tasting experience. His sense of humor and his quick-witted way made it such a fun day. Loved the variety of wines in our Signature Tasting package, and the classy and elegant presentation, including the stunning stemware. We purchased 4 bottles to enjoy at home. This was our second stop of our 4 days Napa visit. We arrived a few minutes late since we were running from Silver Oak and the GPS stop working. We were greeted by the host in a friendly fashion, our table was ready and the fun begun in less than 5 minutes. Our server was Armando who is a manager, very knowable and friendly. We had some spectacular chesses, plus the very good wines. Their chardonnay is good, I was shocked by how their Malbec tasted, and it's completely different from the super high acidity and unbalance of most Argentinians. And we also tasted a 2000 vintage of the Profile. Had a wait at the restaurant across the street so we thought we'd pop in here for a quick tasting. It was pretty packed and most everyone I saw as I was making my way through to the entrance was white/Caucasian. (The ethnicity mention is relevant for this post). The white/Caucasian hostess at the entry walked away right when we walked in (even saw us) so we were left standing there. There was another white/Caucasian lady at the bar just wiping down the counter who saw us and yet didn't greet us or ask if we had questions. The inside was pretty empty and this lady had no one she was assisting so we waited a few minutes and then had to walk up to her to inquire about doing a tasting only for her to say they were all booked for the day. I have no issues with them being booked, if that was really the case. It's expected given it was a weekend. But the lack of reception when we walked in felt a bit... racially discriminated. As we turned around to leave, a group of white/Caucasian women walked in and the hostess had walked back just in time to assist them. I've been to Napa MANY times before with a diverse group of friends and never had any issues in the past with winery staff treating me or my friends differently. We've always had a great time. This trip, though, it was just myself and one other person and both of us are not white/Caucasian. I'm not sure what really happened here but regardless, I don't want to ever put this place on my list of wine tastings. read more

On our trip to Napa Valley, Merryvale was the second of three wineries we had scheduled to see, and the only one we went back for a second day, AND joined their membership club. Honestly the wine is that good, but not only that, the service was impeccable! The first day we had Ian as our guide which was amazing, he walked us through the event room and gave us a tour of the wine barrels. He explained the wines wonderfully leaving us to enjoy them at our own pace. On the second day we had Christian, who was equally amazing providing a walk in tasting at the bar. Again Christian provided wonderful insight to the wines but allowed us time to enjoy them at our own pace. We finished the second tasting with a bottle to enjoy at the bar. Christian provided some great tips for future visits as well as a great place to grab lunch. The Aztecs Market was a great recommendation for. 10/10 we are already planning our next trip out to Napa to go back to Merryvale! read more

I've been a fan of Merryvale for over two decades now, and previously I was a satisfied club member for several years while living in California. Recently I re-visited (it had been 10 years since my last visit) their tasting room and found their wines and service to be as exceptional as always. The Starmont Chardonnay is consistently good. However, the red wines (particularly their cabernets, merlots petite syrah and pinot noir) are stand outs. The Profile Red knocks it out of the park. The tasting room is roomy and a very comfortable place to relax and enjoy their wines. Be sure to take a peak inside the cask room. Although I find Napa area winery hosts to be among the best in class, the service Aaron Lahey provided to us at Merryvale exceeded all our experiences. He is remarkably knowledgeable but doesn't overwhelm you with information, and our leisurely tasting enabled us to truly enjoy all the wines. By the end of our time visiting with him I felt like he was a trusted friend...many thanks Aaron! read more

Small but it had everything you would look for in a smaller winery. Service was good for the party of 7. We didn't feel rushed nor feel upsold too much. Pricing wise, $30 for 5 tastings which are pre-chosen already. We did get 1 additional tasting on the house which was a nice gesture. If you want a smaller intimate setting, this is a good option on your way to hitting other wineries up. The gift shop area seemed a little overboard though.
