Our second stop on our tour was Merryvale. The guy that took care of us was very friendly and knowledgeable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The event space was absolutely incredible with massive barrels and beautiful table settings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The wine was probably my least favorite from the 3 wineries we visited, but everyone has their own taste. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, cool spot to visit with a great outdoor courtyard and beautiful indoor space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Incredible wines, especially the Cab Franc Service is always exceptional. I highly recommend.

We had been to two wine tastings at other wineries in Calistoga. We decided to swing around to St. Helena where Merryvale's wine tasting room is located since we decided to take in another experience. While we didn't have any reservations, we could have a couple of glasses of wine at the main bar, which was very nice, as was the bartender who served us. We enjoyed the red and white we ordered, while taking up a couple of stools at the bar. The wine tasting room was spacious and rustic but polished due to the light woods used for the bar counter and gift shop area. There was a stoned cellar room for more private tastings. Overall, it was a good spot to enjoy some local wine by a winery out of Napa Valley, and very convenient if you are spending the day in downtown St. Helena.

Nice wine tasting experience. Book in advance and pay in advance for the tasting. We enjoyed our experience and they let us add a wine into our tasting. They had all the glassware and water setup for us when we arrived and the whole experience was rounded out by outstanding staff. No one was too stuffy and everyone was knowledgeable and friendly. We chatted quite a bit about a places to eat and places to go. We were members back in the day, but we are not big drinkers and the shipments would come in too frequently for us. We built up a huge stash in a year. However, I do recall the wines in the shipment were excellent.

We had an amazing time with Chris who went above and beyond at our drop-in tasting! Ended up buying a few delicious bottles and will definitely be back!

My friends took me here for the February chocolate + wine pairings and it was so good! They partner with a local chocolate-maker to exclusively supply their chocolates. The wine was good but I particularly loved their Antigua (dessert wine) -- definitely ask to sample. I also appreciate how Merryvale is not too overdone -- it's not overly stuffy like some other wineries, and it still has some of the "grandeur" that is fun about Napa.

What a fantastic and fun experience. Our reserve tasting was awesome! The winery is beautiful and classy our host was funny and a wealth of knowledge. We went into a walk in wine room that had some of their oldest vintages. I think I saw one from 1998! We will be back to try more cabs!

Highly recommend visiting Merryvale. Patti was fantastic. She is very knowledgeable, very friendly, and made mine and my wife's afternoon. Ask for her. Absolutely some of the best wine we've had in Napa.

    Chris was da bomb!

The tasting room is brightly lit with tons of natural light and they are always playing the right soundtrack. Only took one visit to make a member out of me! I have never disliked a single thing they've poured and their events are top notch! Stop by for a tasting and be sure you grab a cappuccino on your way out the door to your next adventure. Don't miss the food truck either!!! Not a bad thing on the menu. Worth a stop next time you're in Napa.

It is a 5-course luncheon with wine pairings hosted in their private enoteca overlooking the vines, complete with a personal attendant and private chef to curate the experience. The food was delicious, the wine selection was superb--including their Howell Mountain Cabernets (Cold Springs, Croquet, and Cima)--and the private room was the perfect intimate space. It was such a relief to have a private area where I didn't have to worry about disturbing other guests while having an infant in tow! However, I'm giving this experience 4 stars instead of 5 because it felt surprisingly generic for a winery that typically excels at personalization. In advance of our reservation, I was sent a questionnaire requesting our music preferences and celebration details, but neither were acknowledged during the visit. Why ask for that information if it isn't going to be used? It felt like a missed opportunity to make the experience truly magical. Overall, it was a good experience with top-tier food and wine, but I expected a bit more of that "Clif Family magic" when it came to the details.

Unfortunately, it was one of our last stops, so we couldn't take any bottles home with us. This time, we made sure Orin Swift was our very first stop, and it did not disappoint. The wines are fantastic, but what really makes the experience special is the hospitality. Marcel was an incredible host: knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about the wines. He made the tasting both educational and fun, and he was so easy to talk to that the experience felt more like spending time with a friend than a typical wine tasting. The tasting room itself is beautiful and filled with the unique artwork and personality that Orin Swift is known for. If you're planning a visit, I highly recommend requesting Marcel. He made an already great experience even better. We're so glad we made Orin Swift our first stop this trip. Review #400! We have…read morevisited V Sattui several times over the years, and it was on our itinerary for our current Napa trip, primarily because we wanted to get lunch at their food market. V Sattui is rather unique among the region's wineries, for several reasons: they have a food market, they allow purchased bottles to be consumed on site, they allow picnicking, and they serve as a wedding venue. This is not easy to achieve in Napa's ridiculously restrictive permitting landscape. So first, let's talk about the food market, which is one of the main attractions of this place. The cheese shop alone is worth going out of your way for. Almost every type of cheese you can hope to find. Sorry to my idealistic vegan aspirations, but I don't think I'll be giving up cheese anytime soon. They have a deli with sandwiches, pastas and various side dishes, olives, fruits, etc. Come on an empty stomach and be ready to eat well. When we first arrived at the winery, we were welcomed in by the very nice host, who explained the tasting menu options, if we were interested in a tasting. About 13 wines to choose from, and you get to pick any 5, $45 per tasting. Love the flexibility. Lots of white and rose options, as opposed to many wineries which just pile on the reds. I like a good red, don't get me wrong, usually with a big dinner, but on a hot summer day, I want lighter, refreshing wines. So we were sold, and signed up for an indoor tasting before lunch. During the couple of years we've been away from Napa, the winery has completely rebuilt their tasting room and store, for both structural and cosmetic reasons. It looks fantastic now, featuring a very attractive, modern circular tasting bar. Would have taken pics, but I try to avoid posting pictures of strangers on the internet, and the tasting room was filled with people. We grabbed a seat at the bar, and were greeted by our tasting guide, Lucas. Lucas was amazing. Personable, hospitable, and engaging. He made us feel welcome, got to know us, and ensured we had a great time throughout, even though he was serving multiple other customers at the same time. I could never do his job. I selected all white and rose wines, and RB went with mostly red. My favorites were the off-dry Riesling, and the Sauvignon Blanc. RB's Preston Vineyards cab was also very good, but again, I would need a hearty meal to consume this with. Lucas also treated us to a couple of complimentary pours, and the Madeira was an especially nice treat. We finished up our tasting, bid au revoir to Lucas, and made our way to the deli for lunch. We were hungry and decided to keep it simple with the essentials - cheese (of course), sweet baguette, and grapes. So many enticing cheeses to choose from, but you can't go wrong with French Brie and medium cheddar, so that's what we opted for. As for the beverage selection, RB's and my wine palates do not always align, but we can usually agree on bubbles, so that's what we did. Armed with a bottle of Brut cuvée and the aforementioned goodies, we made our way out to the picnic area. It's lovely out there. Many picnic tables, in the shade or in the sun, or you can picnic on the grass. We found a shaded table in the breeze overlooking Route 29, and settled in for our leisurely lunch. Terrific experience start to finish, even better than I remember from the past. Make sure you make V Sattui part of your Napa itinerary.
