This place is really good. I tried the steak sandwich and the Cuban of course. The Cuban was very good, but the Steak sandwich might have even been better in my opinion. The bread for both sandwiches was really perfectly toasted. The family running the place was really great too. It's really a 4+ star type of place. Mervis café is a place to go catch up with friends have some good coffee or espresso and get some great lunch it's a perfect setting for a lunch break as the service is quick too! and it's really cool to have the Postal Service there as well in case you need to send anything or buy a cute little postcard to send to someone you're thinking about. The only reason this doesn't get 5/5 is because of the odd setting. Aside from that, it's my first stop whenever I come back to Ft Pierce. Mervis' isn't much to look at. In fact, it's a little scary when you walk in to what looks like a garage, but also is a post office, card store, Avon center, and restaurant. If you like Cuban food try to get here. We had breakfast before heading out of town. You can get breakfast or lunch anytime. Cuban coffee hot and sweet. I can't eat the bread but everyone else in did and said it was good. Eggs and chorizo, Cuban sandwich and pastries were good. Only disappointment is they are not open weekends. read more

Mervin's Café is located behind KFC restaurant off US1 in Fort Pierce. This is a hidden gem. If you're looking for authentic Cuban cuisine in a clean and local venue go to Mervins café. Everything is delicious fresh and prepared any timely fashion. I was surprised to find such an amazing Cuban restaurant located in the depths of Fort Pierce. Good food, mix of Cuban, and other popular foods. All prepared when you ask for it, so it is always fresh. Very friendly staff. Atmosphere is a bit like a cafeteria, but the food more than makes up for it. There is a US Postoffice located in the same place, not next door, but inside the restaurant. It is embarrassing as a Cuban American to have these people call the garbage they serve Cuban food. Had a "ropa vieja" plate at $9.99, a bit on the high end. The white rice was half dry and clustered together and then wet on the other end (if you can't get white rice right you do not belong in the food industry) , it had a soap after taste, the black beans came straight out of a can of GOYA beans, no pretentions here, no sofrito base, cumin, nothing just straight out of the can and then a ridiculous portion, the meat didn't have green peppers, onions, or anything, as soon as it came into contact with air it turned dark (means it was frozen). Do yourself a favor, if you want to experiment with Cuban food don't go to this place it will ruin your experience forever, wait till you have to go to Miami and hit Casavana, La Carreta, Sergios or Palacio de los Jugos (theres 8 establishments of these, but Hialeah hands down is the best). As a Cuban American these people are an embarrassment and can only get away with this here in Ft. Pierce. There are a few new "holes in the wall" little joints in 8th street that are pleasantly surprising and yes there's always Yuca at American Arena or South Beach, the place owned by the Estefans, high end gourmet level Cuban food and very reasonably priced. These people wouldn't last 3 months in Miami...PS they use round paper plates and the plastic forks retain rice grains in its treads disgusting...skip, didn't have any sandwiches, but don't think ill go back there either. read more

Good Cuban food and decent prices. You order at the counter and pick up your own food and find a seat. No real service, but I suppose that is good if you don't want to tip. They have tvs up so you can watch the news if you want. You can also mail a package because they run a post office out of the corner of this joint. read more
