Been here at least a dozen times and the food is always superb! Had flan for the first time the other day and it was excellent!

If you're seeking the overwhelming smell of Roach Bomb as soon as you walk in, look no further...this is the place for you. But it doesn't stop there...the hustle and bustle of the FOUR people there allows you to forgive the juice stain on one of the seats that hasn't been cleaned for hours. After waiting a few minutes without anyone acknowledging me, I decided to walk up to the counter and order a picadera and an empanada. The empanada wasn't bad, I admit, but then again I never had a bad empanada...but I speak to soon. After the 3rd bite, I could taste that darn roach bomb again. Anyway, when we were finally ready to order, the waiter started to write down our order. Hold up...no he didn't...he stopped writing down our order to go and get the frijoles for the other table...but no worries...He came back to finish taking our order. What a relief! After completing our order, my wife figured it my take a little while for us to get our food, and she knew she could die in exactly 43 minutes from the roach poison...so she asked how long it would take. The waiter then said that they were backed up and it may take a while. Wait what? Didn't he just go get the frijoles for the only four other people there? I thought they were done? By my account we were next. I don't know. Maybe their Uber Eats business was booming. Anyway he said he would go ask the cook to see how long it would take. He did, and said it would take about an hour to get our mofongos. 1 HOUR!! Today is Dominican Independence Day...there should have been some extra help to cook and serve the queso frito and tostones...but sadly on this 27th day of February, on the very same day DR gained their independence, el Meson Tropical also gained their independence from our family's business. read more

Tonight, we were very hungry - 2 of us. We sat right down, everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be finishing up their meals, minus one table of about 6. We were greeted right away however, our food, 2 mofongos, took an hour and a half to reach us. There were folks that came in after us, larger parties, that were served before us. Not once did anyone come to asking of we wanted something else to drink or some more bread. Finally, I asked how much longer for the food and we were told 10 minutes. 25 minutes later, no food - again 2 small mofongos. If we did not get our food by 9 p.m., we were walking out. as the clock moved from 8:50 to 9 p.m. the mofongos arrived. by this time, I lost my appetite, asked for to go containers and the check. The waitress said she gave us a discount - 2 whole bucks...ummm, how about a free mofongo? The food has always been decent, however, the wait time for food to come out is unacceptable. You do not give preference to larger parties that came in way after you, you treat everyone the same. I cannot say I will be going back any time soon, no matter how much I crave a good mofongo. read more

Terrible customer service period. Walked in with my family to place a take out order. Cashier double checked to make sure there was enough food for our order. Waited for 15 minutes then the cook comes out of the back as the cashier hides and says that they are out of the food that we ordered. No compensation, no substitution, no apology. Okay so I order take out about once a month from here because their empanadas are awesome. I've tried them all but. Prefer the beef empanadas. The shrimp empanadas are particularly good. I'm love the empanadas with Guayaba y queso; they tastes like a yummy dessert. I've tried the bacalao but it wasn't my favorite way of Preparation but perhaps that's because I'm used to eating it a certain way. The rice is always good, the beans are good, the fried sweet plantains are good.. The downfall to this place is this and its a BIG downfall: Even though they say delivery will be 40 minutes it's always an hour or more. This isn't just one time that I'm referring to; it is every single time I have ordered which is probably more than 20 times. This annoys me to no end.. I spend 25 bucks every time I order. It's be nice to feel like to have a good overall experience once in a while. I've eaten at the restaurant and the customer service is pretty good. Everyone is always nice. The restaurant is quaint and comfortable enough. I will still order from here of course. But I thought perhaps the owners will read this and make ways to improve their overall customer service. read more

So good! Found on yelp. Small place, sort,of hidden. Very casual and low key. the food was fantastic!. I had the garlic chicken and partner had the grilled steak. Both came with beans and rice. The food here is great, the churrasco, churrasco tropical, and chimichurri sauce in particular are AMAZING!! I usually get my steak medium well and it's perfect. The onions, white rice, and black beans that come with the meal are also really really good. read more

I tried this spot out for the second time and was even more disappointed than the first time. I was told an for delivery "tops" and the delivery took an 1 hour and 45 minutes . When I called the guy who answered was super rude and said they were busy and to had to wait . Excuse me? If you go here be glad you are eatting authentic spanish food not made by white people. ( no offense to white people but some of yall dont know how to season). Ordered food for delivery did not get it until 2 hours and 30 mins later I only live 6 mins away. Food was cold, and Milkshake melted. Called several times to locate my food I was constantly told it should almost be there, and they could not locate their driver or get in contact with them. I ordered food from Meson last night through grubhub. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The order was placed around 7:30pm and grubhub notified me that it will be delivered around 9:15-9:25. I called around 9:35 asking if my order was on it"s way. The person responded it's 5mins away and the driver left 30mins ago. I call back 20mins later asking again where my food was before i could finish my sentence she hangs up. I call straight back and different person answers the phone she asks my address and tells me she spoke to the driver and he's 5mins away. Now that 10mins has passed I call again and this time no-one answers since it's closed and after I hang up the driver pulls up. He's gets out of his car taking his sweet time texting on his phone. When he comes to the door I don't get a sorry for the delay just here's your food. At this point it's 10:20pm and I have no choice but to take this food because I have no way of getting something fast. As you might have guessed it the food was cold. My thinking of coming here to do my review was to hopefully let the owner know whats going on and maybe fix it. Since reading the reviews it looks like it's been going on since 2016. It's obvious that they haven't and won't address these concerns in any real way. I wouldn't suggest ordering from them to my worst enemy. read more

loved this place since it was introduced to me by a friend. i am a creature of habit so i tend to order the same thing, which is pretty dynamite, a churrasco. meat is always seasoned well and served right out off the heat. i've had most of their sides and they're all fantastic. this joint is always in the back of my mind on a sunday when i'm hungry with family. to be honest, SOMETIMES, the wait is a bit between sitting and eating. but that's only when they're visibly super busy, so i personally give them a pass for it and i'm glad they're doing well. read more

This review is about the flavor of the food rather than the service. I went in with my cousin and two kids to taste the pork and chicken cubes. We are having an event and are planing to order some food for catering. For starters we tried the chicken and guava y queso empanadas. The chicken empanada was pretty flavorful and fresh. The cheese for the guava and queso was not good. We also ordered two entrees: the pork (pernil) and the chicken cutlets (chicharron de pollo). The pork we got with an order of white rice and beans. The pork was delicious, well seasoned and juicy, the beans tasted a little bit too sour - maybe too much tomato paste for my taste. Everyone else thought the beans were amazing. The chicken cutlets we had with a side of mixed rice and beans (Arroz con gandules). The chicken pieces were too big and lacked more seasoning. The arroz con gandules was delicious. We had two sides, sweet fried plantains and potato salad. The sweet plantains were pretty standard. The potato salad was so good we almost licked our plate. We definitely enjoyed our meal and will be ordering from here for our party. We did not try other dishes but the mofongo looked delicious and so did the skirt steaks - we had food envy from other customers. read more

I went with my gf around 7:30 PM on a friday night. there were only like two other tables being occupied but our orders took forever! Not sure why. I've been to this place before the food is really good but the service is really bad from the minute we walked in no one acknowledged us we had to seat ourselves we waiters for a couple of minutes no one came to the table to take our order. There was more than 5 employees and no one of them came out to help they were just walking around talking to each other or on their cellphones after waiting 20 minutes we decided to leave. This place is really good! I ordered mofongo de churrasco which was absolutely delicious, tostones which were perfectly made and the garlic sauce was great. Also ordered chicken with garlic sauce with rice and beans which were great too. But my favorite order was the chinola shake..SO GOOD! The delivery was a bit long but worth the wait. I've only ever done delivery from this restaurant and haven't had the chance yet to sit in so my review is based on delivery. Awesome food, good menu, and delicious chicharon BUT I'm deducting a star because the service is SO SLOW. No matter when I order it takes easily over an hour to an hour 15 for them to fill the order and drive 7 minutes down the road to my door. It comes in a small sized delivery truck so maybe they group multiple orders but even so some days I kick myself and think I should've just driven down the road instead of hoping the delivery will come faster than the last time. read more

Been ordering from here for a few years but the delivery times are just out of hand. This past Friday we waited for our order for 2.5 hours - we called at 11am when they open Bc we know it takes forever but still no food till 1:35pm - the drivers always seem to get lost (big office building - not a hidden difficult location). The past time times we ordered the orders were wrong and ALWAYS missing the hot sauce for empanadas even though we ask for extra. This past time they really messed up the order and the driver was lost but instead of trying to find the place he went back to the restaurant so someone else can deliver the food - makes no sense. Woman was not helpful nor cared about customer service - after an argument on the phone about the wrong order she said she would refund us. Still waiting for it to hit my credit card - if they actually do refund it. Sad this place can't get their delivery service and customer service in order Bc the food is ok (sometimes) but not as good as it was 2-3 years ago. read more

The last experience was one star. I'm giving it 3 overall because I've been two times before and the food was pretty good. However, today (literally a half hour ago) , was a different story. I ordered the Arroz con pollo special . First problem, took forever to come out. But for good food I don't mind the wait or so I thought . I get back to my place, eagerly rip open the bag and begin to dig in. Was definitely more rice than chicken. I'm talking a drumstick and mostly bones or scraps it seems like from a stew. U know .. The pieces left behind .. 2 small chunks of breast and the underside bone that usually falls off during stewing ..Even the beans that came with was less than a half cup. I've gotten plenty more on both occasions prior. My main problem, the chicken. The first bite right away I noticed it tasted funny..I'm starving and I've gone here 2 times before so I give it the benefit of a doubt and assume maybe it's just the seasoning. So I continue and as I get into the next couple pieces I know it's definitely not the seasoning. It seems as if the chicken is bad. Like the taste of chicken you have left in the fridge and forgot it was there, then a week and a half later U open the container and take a smell.. It had that kind of aftertaste .. Didn't sit well with my stomach after either .. Considering I cook quite often I could only imagine the possibilities for it to taste the way it did but I won't post that here..I'm kind of disappointed as I've visited a few other Spanish restaurants in the area and the experience was forgettable after taking the first bite. This was the only Spanish restaurant in the area that would've been my "go to" spot considering how good my first two experiences are . I'm not willing to take another shot at this place . The food is good but the delivery wait is ridiculous! Literally having to wait 2 hours for food is absurd.

For an affordable and tasty Dominican experience, this is the spot to go. My faves are the mangu breakfast, (which is mashed plantains served with grilled onions, fried cheese and salami) and the pernil served with rice and beans. Also the morir soñando is great too. What a pleasant surprise. We were with a party of five and first we shared some appetizers. We had both the chicken and shrimp empanadas, which were both delicious, but what shocked us were the chicken wings which were plump, juicy and crisp, not to mention excellent. My wife had the pulled pork, which of cohere I tasted. The pork simply melted in my mouth. I had the shrimp in garlic sauce. The shrimp were well cooked and the sauce was wonderful. As sides we had both the black beans and red beans with rice. Both perfect. Dessert was flan, rice pudding and tres leches cake. All great. The service was outstanding and the prices very reasonable. There was so much food we took home containers and we are looking forward to tomorrow's dinner. read more
