Addison restaurants are nearby but busy on weekends so do plan an early dinner between 5 and 6 as those restaurants are typically very busy on weekends. A plus is the "Stone Cottage" theatre in the rear which hosts a different theatre company and is which is rustic with often ribald works. There is also a large snd configurable separate meeting space which can be had for special functions or seminars. If you are into Architecture and you ever get the chance for a complete tour of the Water Tower theatre seize the opportunity because it is a very cool building with 2 levels below grade for costume and storage with three above that are absolutely amazing in how they are completely flexible for multi tier stage configurations and configurable seating tiers from several directions.

My husband and I love and often quote the cult classic film, so I optimistically bought tickets through RCT website for the last weekend the stage production was playing. The theater is tucked into a rarely visited strip mall. There was lots of parking. The entrance lobby was quite plain, but spacious. At the end of the hall, we picked up our tickets at will call. Around the corner was a small concession stand selling cute, small buckets of old, stale popcorn, cookies, soda as well as beer and wine. The theater area has old cinema seats on a raked platform. You could clearly see the stage since the seats were well staggered so you weren't looking at the back of someone's head. Unfortunately , the seats never seem wide enough, and you always find yourself fighting for the shared armrest. At least the bottom cushion was supportive and comfortable. I could have easily sat there through both acts and the intermission. The cast was phenomenal! They sang beautifully, danced with decent precision, strutted around in some amazing costumes while taking us on a near perfect rendition of the actual movie. Lighting and background sets were somewhat limited, but what they had worked great and didn't detract from the show. The comedy was there and they even threw in a few extra jabs at local politicians to the delight of the audience. It appears they focus on some classic theater productions throughout the year. Shows that are known and loved by everyone (White Christmas, Annie, Mamma Mia, etc.). It seems like a winning formula that is working for them. I wouldn't hesitate to come back for another date night.

I finally made it to one of their Thursday night shows for the most recent production of Edward Albee's "The Goat/Who is Sylvia" (a wacky but sad story line involving a man's love affair with a goat). For those of you who don't know, Albee also wrote "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf." I was very pleased when i walked into the theater because it seemed to be a newly rennovated warehouse space with plenty of seating. Patrons were just hanging out and having wine and snacks in a little cafe area. There was an awesome art exhibit displayed with sculpures made of cigarette boxes and paintings, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the artist. It was just a cool space to hang out in before the show. A few minutes before show time, everyone lines up at the entrance of the theater. Once you get in, it's open seating. It's not very big (maybe 100 seats?) but almost every seat is a good one with no obstructions (ampitheatre style set up). The set design was surprisingly professional. The show was great, and you really get to feel the emotion (and this particular show was VERY emotional) becuase everyone is so close to the stage and the actors. I would just advise you to bring a coat or a sweater because the theater is chilly! I highly recommend this theater, particularly if you're into a more informal experience. You can walk in the day of the show and purchase a ticket, and the prices are right!

You can Bring Your Own Booze (BYOB) which also saves you money. We brought bottles of beer, and the box office had a bottle opener we could use to pop them open. There was no corkage fee, but they aren't going to be providing glasses or ice, nor will they pour your beverage for you. If you need a snack during the show, they offer some concessions at the box office window. It looked like candy, chips, and canned soda were available for sale. Before the late show, someone setup a table to sell multi-colored popcorn. It's not dinner, but it will tide you over until you can eat a proper meal elsewhere. The venue is located in a business park with plenty of free parking outside. There was a police officer parked in the lot and making the rounds. Not sure if that is par, but the business park seemed like a clean and relatively safe area. It's not the Ritz, but it isn't dive bar quality either. The walls are painted black and decorated with colorful panels. Metal stacking chairs with built in cushions are lined up nicely with at least one small table squeezed in each row. You could move the chairs if you felt you needed a little more elbow room. There are no arm rests. The low table allows you to set your drinks and snacks down so you can clap for the entertainment, but you'll need to get there early to score a spot next to one. The front row has two, 3-seater, plush couches. We got there early enough to get one of those seats, but opted to avoid the potential punishment of sitting in the front row of a comedy show. The comics during the early show were from Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. It was mostly local talent. Both men and women performed short sets of maybe 10-15 minutes. There were about 5 different comics that performed during the early show. Each comic had a monologue with some gems and some duds. This is raw talent, not polished TV fodder, but entertaining just the same. The late show was a special show. I wish we could have stayed for it, as the publicity for it was originally how we found out about this place. The venue is also offering improv classes. You'll have to check their website for prices and a schedule. Improv classes are for everyone, and everybody who takes them can benefit from learning to think out of the box, to integrating spontaneous creativity in their life, and to fostering better communication with others. This place is a good bargain for those looking for a night out without breaking the bank. Since my hubby is cheap, I'm sure we will be back.

For example, I had the pleasure of seeing Davis Gaines (of "Phantom" fame) in their production of "The Night of the Hunter." This was an original production, I believe, and unfortunately I've never seen it go anywhere (it was very good!). They also frequently display art and cultural exhibits that you can look at before the show starts and during intermission. Bathrooms are nice and clean, and the refreshments are reasonably priced. I find the theatre to be one of the most comfortable I've visited. Acoustics are great! We have season tickets and will continue to subscribe in the future. Community-produced, Broadway-quality!
