Mesquite Grill seems to be one of the only Mexican restaurants in Blue Ridge and it's a pretty standard Mexican restaurant. The place could use a little upkeep but plenty of parking outside and the service was really great. I ordered a chicken quesadilla with grilled veggies. The portion size was small but for a light lunch it was perfect. However, it was pretty oily. I did like that for some of my friends meals that came with a lettuce/extra toppings, the salad was real chopped lettuce and tomatoes, not just the typical bagged lettuce. The standout was the elote (street corn) I ordered. Fresh on the cob, this corn was AMAZING and only $3.99! It was seasoned super well and was the highlight of the meal. Overall, it's a standard Mexican restaurant and while it's not my favorite restaurant in Blue Ridge, it will hit any Mexican food craving at a very reasonable price. read more

Great food and excellent service! The decor is stunning and with the music playing it makes you feel like you're somewhere in Mexico! Hubby and I each got a combo and really enjoyed them. The ground beef is nicely seasoned, not too much, just enough. The tacos, poblanos and burritos are absolutely loaded with meat making it super filling with some leftovers! My mom and I took a trip to Georgia for the weekend and while doing some shopping we looked for somewhere to eat. Mesquite had amazing reviews and was close by. We walked in and were welcomed immediately. The restaurant is cute and vibrant, colorful and warm. The margarita was sweet but not syrupy and the beef was flavored and seasoned very well! The guacamole is made fresh and you can definitely taste the difference. I got the changa and it was tasty as well as beautiful to look at! The veggies were plentiful and grilled perfectly. My mom got the chicken chalupa and she loved it! She couldn't stop commenting on how fresh the tomatoes in the pico were and how crisp the lettuce was. We also had an amazing waiter! Accommodating and kind. Portion sizes are large, prices are low, the food is delicious. You really can't beat it. read more

I've passed this place for years and finally decided to give it a try. We walked in and had 3 workers pass by us and not say hello or we will be with you in a minute. We stood at the front door for about 3-4. We were seated and our drink order was taken. The waitress was not friendly, as a matter of fact she was pretty curt with us. I ordered the combo meal with a quesadilla and a chalupa. The quesadilla with shredded chicken was good but the chalupa was basically an open faced taco. It was literally a flat taco shell. I asked our waitress about it and she told me it was a chalupa. I won't argue but it most definitely was not a chalupa. I feel like for the unfriendly service and decent but not great food, I don't know that it would be enough to bring me back. As far as the decorations, it's about what you'd expect. We haven't been here for several years but decided to give it another try. The entrance is crowded/claustrophobic and just odd but it's the smell of cleaner that is off putting from the start. The chairs are uniquely carved and painted but somehow distracting. Bench seats have seen better days (rips and cracking). There was oddly no music playing in the background. Everyone was so quiet. The patrons on a Saturday at noon in April seemed to be mostly locals but only a third to half the tables were occupied. The menu has lots of choices. (My menu was sticky.) We ordered from the lunch options and our daughter ordered from the kids menu. The salsa is smokey and comes with warm multi color chips. The refried beans were a bit runny and bland. My beef chimichanga was quite good but my husband wasn't impressed by his choice. The food came out quickly and on a push cart/trolley with a horn (assuming only for tables with kids). A bit odd. The server was very nice and extremely attentive. Would come again but only for lunch and with my expectations low. read more

Hands down the worst service I have ever had. More than 45 minutes of our drinks empty waiting for the server to return. We watched her serve entire tables and completely avoid us. The food took an hour and while wasn't bad the mood was so killed by then it wasn't enjoyed. read more

Have enjoyed going to Mesquite for a number of years, but their use of overpowering non-bacterial killing cleaning made it impossible to continue to dine there. Fabuloso is a fine wet cloth cleaner, but it does not kill any germs or bacteria - even though the smell is over the top and very disruptive to be around while trying to enjoy a meal. Attempted to let them know of the impact on our dining experience, but they did not see fit to even engage. Will miss going there, but there is a better environment elsewhere in town. read more

We come here multiple times during our yearly visit to Blue Ridge. Food is alway great & reasonable. Service was fast and excellent. After a long day of hiking it's important we get our dinners quick. I got the steak w/ grilled shrimp and my kids got the chicken fajita and stuff peppers. How can a Mexican restaurant that made absolutely delicious beef, chicken and shrimp fajitas mess up salsa, but they sure did yesterday. We dove right into the fajitas, the salad with beans rice and yummy guacamole. Then opening the salsa and the bland thick chips we found ourselves wondering what in the world did they put in the salsa that tasted like fish, parsley and oregano. Needless to say we were thankful we had salsa from another restaurant and dumped the other. I do think I would get their fajitas again but not without checking the salsa out first. And then if you order to go be sure you check your order. They left off the tortillas and I asked the owner or manager if I could get some. He was very annoyed and was more concerned with finding out who messed up the order. 15 minutes later I left with my order. The ABSOLUTE WORST "Mexican" food I have ever had! My wife and a group of friends were in town and we were excited to try this place out. The chips and salsa should have given me the inclination that this wasn't going to be a good experience. The salsa was mostly liquid and was sweet and not the usual tomato taste. I ordered the Carnitas Dinner and I was thoroughly disappointed. The rice was white with mixed vegetables in it. The refried beans were very dry and the pork was greasy and flavorless. I have to edit my first review from yesterday. Husband and toddler got sick this morning and they both had the quesadilla. Toddler threw up and had bathroom issues and husband had bathroom issues... we'll never come here again. Not sure if the cheese was bad, or if it was just fake cheese or if it was the wheat tortillas (I didn't have any of this mind you, and I'm fine). Here's what I had posted before: Generous portions decent prices - good taste for carne asada. Salsa was good too. Don't like the fake cheese on the beans. My wife, daughter, & I stopped in for dinner tonight. We sat at the table for over 10 minutes without anyone greeting us. No one offered drinks - no one even said hello. While we were waiting, parties are the booths on either side of us received their meals, & neither the food runners nor the servers who checked in with them after the food was delivered said anything to us, in spite of looking at us. It was as though we were invisible. Further, only 2 food runners wore masks. The servers' masks were below their chins, as was the manager's when we spoke to him on the way out. The restaurant's extravagant decor is very misleading because the food is much less than authentic Mexican food. The best part of our meal was the chips. I ordered the New Mexican. First off the ground beef wasn't seasoned well at all. It kind of tasted like meat loaf, no sazon, adobo or any familiar Mexican seasonings. The cheese tasted like American cheese slices. The refries beans were watery. My husband ordered the chimichanga. Same experience with the refried beans. The rice was bland. And the chicken was bland as well. This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. I'm glad I don't live near here because I would gain a lot of weight eating here daily. But my grandparents do live near here so every time I visit, I try to stop by. First, their portions are HUGE!! I always get Tacos al Pastor (my favorite Mexican dish). This place has some of the beat chorizo I've had outside of Mexico. I also love their refried beans. I'm not a fan of the soup they serve as an appetizer, but it's free so I won't complain. I really wanted to like MG - the service was great, the place was clean, etc. I just couldn't get past the food though...which is the real reason to go out to eat. It isn't your typical Tex Mex (usually a good thing - see my myriad reviews)...everything I ate was either bland or tasted of turmeric (which I take as a daily supplement) but am not so found of that I have it in my beans. This is the only Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to where we didn't finish the Cheese Dip - we're usually being too polite to eat the last bit...I didn't even want to bring the leftovers home (over half the large order). As I said the service was great and the staff friendly but we didn't meet on on flavor profiles. I'll go again if someone takes me, but I'd be hard-pressed to go on my own. read more

We have been eating here since it opened & always has great service, great food and margaritas are excellent. For the type of restaurant it is, I would give it five stars but I honestly reserve five stars for finer restaurants that serve fantastic over the top food. It's a great diversified Mexican restaurant. I am a local and we have eaten here numerous times with 6 to 10 people and heard no complaints.
