Hiking ran late so we decided to dine out on some Mexican food. Service at El Manzanillo was very accommodating of our party of twelve and got us seated with drinks and chips in no time at all. Welcoming ambiance and generous portions of really good food, followed up with a Happy Birthday song and awesome frozen dessert made for a really great experience. 4th o July week, had two friends in for the holiday & because of my previous experiences brought them here - service was a bit slow for a Mexican restaurant, food was as expected but as soon as it was delivered we were attacked by a multitude of flies - the I looked at the front window - flies all over the place - mentioned to server - got no where so informed the person at the register & he pretended not to understand. I grew up out west where I enjoyed delicious Sonoran style Mexican food. Since moving to the Blue Ridge Mountains I've had some terrible excuses for Mexican food, so I had to really reset my expectations. In AZ this would be a two star restaurant. Up here I have to give it four stars (relative to what's available up here). The Shrimp Cocktail is actually quite good & probably the best thing on the menu. The chips are nice & crispy & hold up well to the yummy salsa. I usually get the Big Man's Combo for a nice variety of tastes & textures. Good news is they now have a liquor license so you can enjoy adult beverages too! read more

Service was terrible, order was wrong and server didn't care at all. $75 for Nachos and 6 tacos that were wrong. The meat tasted so bad we were afraid it was spoiled. We left the food on the table. They didn't offer to change anything. Nobody cared. Don't waste your time or your money. I would give it 0 stars if I could. read more

1st The Margaritas are too sweet, too much OJ or something that makes it super sugary, Yuck. If you know a good, or even decent margarita, this IS NOT THE PLACE. 2nd Meeting my young friend for her bday celebration, and having the ABSOLUTELY WORST EXPERIENCE!! We drank and dined. One of the challenges of being in Blue Ridge during the Sunday - Wednesday interval is finding a restaurant that isn't fast food open. So, on a Wednesday evening while on a trip to the Ingle's supermarket, we found that this place was open and decided to give it a try. At 6:00, the place was quite busy, but we were still able to get a table. The waitstaff was prompt and friendly. One server immediately brought us tortilla chips - still hot! - and tasty salsa. Another server took our drink order, and shortly thereafter our food order. The iced tea we ordered tasted fresh, not slightly stale like we've had at other restaurants. My spouse ordered Pollo Jalisco - a chicken breast pounded thin, marinated, grilled, and topped with nacho cheese and chorizo. It was accompanied by two warm flour tortillas, rice, lettuce, onions, and guacamole. The chicken was slightly overcooked but flavorful. When he cut it into small chunks and wrapped it in a tortilla with some of the vegetables and the salsa, he declared it "epic". I had the Carne Asada Tacos - thin slices of marinated beef on corn tortillas, topped with cilantro and onions. Again, the meat was slightly overcooked but was still tasty, especially when topped with some of the salsa and doused with some juice from the lime half that came with it. My entree was accompanied by rice and beans, which were good but nothing special. The prices were very reasonable. We look forward to a return trip to El Manzanillo to try some of the other menu offerings. read more

I often judge a Mexican restaurant by its chile relleno, and El Manzanillo passed the test! The chicken in the chicken taco was prepared with good flavor. The guacamole was just right. (Some restaurants add a lot of lemon juice that covers the flavor of the avocado, but this guacamole was perfect and you could taste the avocado! You could tell it was fresh.) The chips were warm and we really liked the salsa. My husband got the Pancho's Special and said he could eat that every day. The shrimp were cooked just right and the chicken was perfect. The meal came out pretty quickly, and was delicious. We will return often. read more

Read other reviews and said what the heck let's try it because we absolutely love Mexican food. It might not be much too look at but you will enjoy it. So go into this not expecting anything fancy and some of the best places are not fancy. First time here so can't tell you if they were understaffed but was a little slow on getting adult beverages out. The food now this is what make it shine. Chile Verde spot on and I eat this at many places just to see where they compare. They rank #2. The wife and kids had their meals and everyone of us were extremely pleased. Great Job!!! read more

Please save your time and take the other negative reviews to heart. The food is tasteless and the service was subpar. Our server slammed our drinks on the table and rolled her eyes when she gave my husband sweet tea instead of unsweetened. We waited for 20 minutes for her to finish eating in the back booth and bring us our check. This was our first and last time eating here. Definitely visit the restaurant with the same name in Blairsville, because this location can't get it right. read more

We have been going to Mesquite Grill for Mexican food when we come to Blue Ridge, but saw this place pop up so we thought we'd give it a shot. We came on a Tuesday evening and it was slow. The decor is simple and appears to be done non-professionally but it works. We noticed the wait staff was rather stoic, never cracked a smile at us, and was not friendly at all. You would think with the restaurant being dead they would be happy to see us, but no. The food was good and tasted fine. Our margarita weren't very strong and we asked if they could make it a little stronger and they charged us $6 for whatever they made it stronger with. And to be fair, it was much stronger...but $6 added on to an $11 margarita??? It's not my fault it was too weak to begin with and $6 to liven it up is ridiculous. I'll go elsewhere. read more

The carne asada tacos are authentic as they come around blue ridge. I get them almost everytime with lime and cilantro. The guy who usually checks you out and greets you is very nice and we also enjoy Jaunita's service! I think this place is so much better than Mesquite. So try it! read more

Very mild, bland food. Salsa has very little spice or heat to it. I had Texas nachos and husband had combo meal of chalupa, enchilada and chili rellano. Just okay taste. I also had a house Margarita that was too sweet, and I question if it had much alcohol to it. Service was sub par. Definitely will not be my first choice as a restaurant the next time. read more

Tasteless lunch experience. Our first warning was the sign that said "buffet". We originally saw the Yelp rating of 4.3 but later realized it was a different place somehow. Wanted to give this place a try. It was not a good experience. The person who "greeted" us seemed annoyed that we walked in the door. The waitress was friendly. Their food is nothing like any Mexican food I've had both in Mexico and the entire state of California. Ordered a Quesadilla that was nothing but a folded over tortilla with chicken inside, not flat some cheese sauce, nothing else. Husband ordered combo. Got a burrito that looked like an enchilada and this combo didn't include rice and beans. They want extra money for everything. Expensive for what you get. Don't take a child 2-4 in for the buffet.
