After attending the Super Run Classic Car Show in downtown Henderson last weekend, I am a fan of…read morelocal events.The Super Run Classic Car Show transformed Water Street into a classic car museum filled with people. The cars included a 1923 Ford coexisting with a Chevy El Camino, a Plymouth Road Runner, 1978 Trans Am, and every classic car imaginable. Just like a good museum, the cars included information about their year and make. A good number of the cars had the hoods popped open to display the engines. The vehicle owners were there to share information. There was even a stand displaying hundreds of Match Box and Hot Wheels cars for sale. The Super Run Classic Car Show featured a few food concessions plus a beer garden. They sold corn dogs, smoothies, hot dogs, burgers, sausages, and fries. Personally I have mixed feelings about the food concessions in downtown events. My understanding is that the events are entertainment that helps stimulate the downtown economy. On Water Street so much of the downtown economy is restaurants and bars. I'd do my part by supporting the Cafe in the El Dorado, the Coffee House, and the Gold Mine Tavern because they plan to be in the community for the long run. Besides, lately I'm not too crazy over the taste of carnival food. In my reporting of the Super Clasic Car Show, what made Super Run Classic Car Show shine was that it made Water Street shine. I never saw Water Street so happening on a weekend afternoon. For a day Water Street looked like US 66 when GTOs ruled the road. A Water Street that is usually empty on a Sunday morning was animated with people. These people were supporting local businesses. From my observation, business was up on Water Street. There was even a 15 minute wait to eat in the Cafe. It also seemed that the casinos and bars were busier. When I look back on the Super Run Car Show, I think of how it made Water Street shine on a weekend afternoon When I look back on this event, I look forward to more local events.

The Clark County Fair and Rodeo is a fantastic county fair out in the middle of nowhere…read more You drive from Vegas like you are going towards Salt Lake City which means leaving Nevada for Arizona by way of Mesquite. Just when you are out in the desert, before Mesquite, you turn off toward Logandale and in just a few miles you find parking for the county fair. Once you enter the gates to the fair you feel transported to someplace else. It is green and has shade trees everywhere. Locals are pulling out their camping chairs and claiming their spots underneath a canopy of old trees. It seems like a giant family picnic or reunion. Off to the left is a building hosting artwork, photography, and a ton of crafts. There is a little shop inside with inexpensively priced snacks and drinks. There was a face painter on the way out of that building as you work your way to the large entertainment building with a terrific stage and seating area. We saw illusionists, a hypnotist, bands, and a drumming duo - show after show after show. Then back outside we saw strolling jugglers, a baseball comedy fire show, a one-man band, and many vendors. Beyond the myriads of vendors was a building full of more vendors including one selling amazing fudge. Back up towards the office we saw another stage with a lot of dancers. Then there were some barns and other buildings working our way back around the fairgrounds. Beyond that was the carnival full of great rides and games and vendors from Brown's Amusements. We spent the entire day there and had so much fun. When we told my dad about it, he insisted on going next year. So, we have plans to visit him in Vegas and take him to the 2026 Clark County Fair and Rodeo.

Danny Brown had a ton of rides for all ages. There was a ton of entertainment. I loved the little store inside the first building, they had delicious homemade treats to eat and take home. There was so much entertainment to watch and enjoy. There was a great food row, and so many vendors to visit. I will enjoy this fair for years to come!

I went to this festival on a Sunday morning for the 7:30am liftoff. I saw this event on the news…read moreand told myself, I absolutely had to come because I've always wanted to see hot air balloons! I drove all the way from Las Vegas and was excited to watch these balloons fly out! There is ample parking at Casablanca Resort and you can just walk across the street where the balloons are set up at. It was a little chilly so definitely bring a coat and sunglasses since it will be super bright too. BUT... the balloons didn't get to fly up! Unfortunately, weather also plays a big part too in how the balloons go up and sadly, weather did not permit for the hot air balloons to go up. But it was nice because the guy leading the announcement was very professional and allowed the hot air ballon to static or go up for a little bit to show the height and volume of these balloons which was really cool! I loved how educational everything was and how the pilots were showing how things worked and what the actual basket looked like (it's literally like how I saw it in the movies - an ACTUAL basket)! They also have a show at night as well. It was nice to see an event like this and seeing the display of colorful balloons being blown up. If you haven't ever experienced a hot air balloon festival, you definitely have to come! I will be back especially since I didn't get to see the balloons go up this time around. I don't remember seeing food or drinks at this venue so it's good to get something to eat or drink beforehand. There's a gas station nearby though for you to get things.

Plenty of space for kids to just be kids; running and having fun! There's also the Shriek house, corn maze and more. Not too scary for young kids but still fun for the older ones. The drive from Vegas is an hour long straight shot up the I-15, once you do get into Moapa drive slow and carefully. There are a lot of speed traps waiting for visitors and the last portion of the drive here is windy and unpaved. Definitely not the most visitor friendly drive. There are lots of activities to do here and they offer several wristband packages to bundle experiences. We opted for the white wristbands ($34/pp) which include all general admission activities, the haunted maze, the haunted hayride and 2 turns at the corn shot. The maze had about a 30-45 minute wait when we got there and the wait got longer from there, but in my opinion it was worth it. We had some good screams and laughs and got through the maze pretty quickly. The haunted hayride honestly was a dud, but it was nice to sit down for a while after standing so long for the maze. They could honestly just stick to a regular fall themed hayride. They also had a bunch of other activities that were included in general admission ($12) like swings, pig races, a small petting zoo, and more. There was plenty to do, but in the future I would probably save a little bit of money and only opt into the maze. I was a bit disappointed in the food selection here. They catered very heavily towards fall fair like desserts, but didn't offer much in terms of actual food. We still did order the fried apple slices and a deep fried cheesecake, along with a couple of hotdogs. I was sorely disappointed by the apples slices because there just tasted like fried dough, the apple almost disintegrated and disappeared after the frying process. The cheesecake was good but incredibly decadent and is best shared between two people. The hotdogs were run of the mill, thin and unimpressive. I added cheese to mine and the bun was so thin it fell apart immediately. For the price per dog, I would have expected Hebrew Nationals. The pumpkin patch was a bit of a long walk away from everything else and by about 10pm we couldn't find too many good pumpkins. We opted to pick some corn instead and I have to give it to them, that corn was sooooo sweet and delicious once cooked. It was definitely a fun night, but with HalloweenTown in Boca Park available in the future I'll probably save gas and stay in town.

I can't confirm that this one is run by volunteers, but it definitely has the small-town feel. We were greeted by a woman who was excited to give us the spiel about how the town was settled (Mormon pioneers that traveled south from Salt Lake City looking to plant cotton). She also proudly showed us the story board that she was creating herself. It changes out each quarter and tells the whole story of the town, the commerce and the culture. She also said that she's working to get it online so it can be enjoyed by people all over. The museum itself is small but stuffed with old history and artifacts of the past. It was really dark inside-I'm not sure if they didn't turn on the lights or if it's just that way, but it felt kind of eerie.
