This place was alright, especially for the area. Definitely a locals watering hole. The bar was busy and servers were bustling. We opted for a couple of house drinks and some takeout. The drinks were a little sweet for our liking, but they tasted of good quality and most of the mixers were house made for what we ordered. The food was mid but good for the area. The smoked ribs were quite tender but lacked any bark. The smoke was there but a side thought at best. These were cooked and had smoke around, but not cooked by the smoke. Better than Dickey's. The sides were fine. My wife ordered the grilled chicken and enjoyed it. Pretty solid. We might be back if we are in the area but wouldn't travel for it by any means. Our first time at this location, and it did not disappoint. We had two servers and they were both great, and communicated when they would be coming around since our area was fairly full. It is a very busy place. The food was so good. We both had steaks, a salad, and poblano cheese grits. Each item was great. The steaks were full of flavor and the grits were great with the steak. If you are unsure like I was get the grits. Being gluten free means no bread or croutons but we didn't miss a thing. I've eaten here many times and I have never had an issue or gotten sick. It is a little hard because they don't have a dessert that could be gluten free. It's an old time country place. The chairs can be a little hard and they are not the most comfortable to sit in for a long time. When you walk in and see it, you know what to expect. read more

While on business in Mineral Wells this place was recommended for use to try out. We started with the Queso w/Brisket and that was a solid choice. Although the queso could have been a little hotter. Our party of four each chose something different. I opted for the Chopped Brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad. It was okay but nothing I thought was fantastic. Those others chose the sliced Brisket, Burger, & the last chose Ribs. The only one who disliked was the Rib order. I believe it was the BBQ sauce that turned him off. The service was really good with frequent checks to refill iced tea and check on the food, as well as petition for extra items to be ordered, particularly dessert. The barbecue sauce was just kind of " meh"but the beef was tender and well cooked. Being located next to the highway and apparently very popular, it was nice to see if some spacing between the tables so that it didn't appear supercrowded in terms of the ambience. The Armadillo Eggs were pretty good, but the brisket was tough and dry. However, it could have just been an off day, but we split a plate and did not even finish the brisket because of it was so dry. I order my steak medium well I told the server absolutely no blood a little pink is fine but no blood . Well my steak was barely seared on both sides so much blood it covered the plate and got on the rest of my food . I waited for quite some time for their chicken fried hockey puck. I joke, the hockey puck would have tasted better. Maybe it was burnt, maybe it was a spiked piece of meat. The little young BLOND thought we had left so she went to her cashier & complained about a 23% tip!? If I had heard her remark you can bet you sweet buns I would have asked for my credit card receipt back and would have left you a big fat $000! !!!!
