During the same time that I was working on my new home, I knew of several other friends who were also renovating or remodeling their homes. I can say without hesitation that no one had the experience that I did. My home when I first purchased it and before remodeling started was in dire need of some major work. No central air, flooring was lopsided, structural foundation work had to be done, needed to change a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom home into a 3 bed 3 full bath plus den home, needed to get permits, install a porch, redo the garage into an extra room, landscaping, etc. The list goes on. From the time my escrow was closed, to when everything was ready for move in, all of this was done in less than 4 months which is ridiculous in a time when materials and manpower was low. Friends who had half as much work to be done as I did spent over a year. In terms of costs, the speediness at which all this work was done saved me an incredible amount of money. In addition, every cost was stated very transparently, including any sudden, unforeseen changes or circumstances, as well as options to add, forego or make adjustments and those subsequent costs. Michael has decades of experience, and was crucial in thinking of things that I never would have that enhanced my home in ways I would not have imagined. He also is very very detail oriented and was always on site, making sure nothing, even small, seemingly insignificant things were overlooked. His staff was excellent, very communicative and knowledgable. He and his employees treated my home like their home, and the final product speaks for itself. Renovating a home can be extremely stressful especially when it is so hard to find a contractor you can trust. I had none of the experience that so many people had by working with Misong Construction, and would recommend them for any job.

So before signing a lease agreement they want to know how much would it cost to do interior remodeling. Because the project itself was very complex based on the interior design that we had. I called Isaac on Friday at​ about 5 pm​ asking to stop by as soon as possible. I would say just that I called maybe like 10 general contractors that serve​ Beverly and all of them sai:​d "you know, we don't like commercial projects especially in Beverly". That was kind of weird for me but anyway. I called Isaac and I asked him for a huge favor to stop by on Sunday. and even at that time,​ I wasn't able to get into​ the unit since we didn't have the key :) that was crazy. But Isaac agreed to stop by and help me out. The unit itself is on the first floor facing towards the main street with huge glass windows so we met next to the entrance and I had the interior design on my laptop. Just standing outside looking through the glass window we discussed the whole project step by step marking the key questions of the project that could affect budget or terms. I don't think there are many contractors who would do that. anyway. based on our conversation we come up with a​ rough budget. And again you have to understand that any rough budget means +/-25% to the final price. I was ok with that since I wanted to know if it is 100k project or 500k :) The next​ thing that I really appreciate is that Isaac explained to​ me what can go wrong with the city since we have to approve a lot of paperwork and blueprints. There were a lot of issues with plumbing since there was parking​ under the unit. To sum up. Its not that often that you enjoy talking to contractors without the feeling that they are trying to get your project no matter what and then just raise the price during the construction.

We hired NB Builders as our remediation team for our home after the Eaton Canyon fires, expecting…read moreprofessionalism during what was already a stressful situation. Unfortunately, what began as a seemingly competent engagement quickly deteriorated into the most distressing and time-consuming contractor experience our family has ever had. Throughout the project, we encountered serious issues with honesty, communication, and conduct. For example, David, the project manager ensured us that everything would be taken care of through insurance. Their charges turned out to be significantly higher than any of the remediation companies our friends and neighbors hired. Even though the insurance paid out an incredibly large amount (they showed us that our payout was the most they gave of any remediation claim from the fires), because they did not approve of the full amount, David threatened us with a mechanic's lien on our home. The tone of NB/David/Noam's communications was persistently intimidating and threatening, and felt entirely inappropriate. When we raised concerns about miscommunications and discrepancies in the scope of work, the response became aggressive rather than collaborative. At one point, our husband was subjected to hostile and profane language from Noam, which was deeply unprofessional and unacceptable. Additionally, a pipe was damaged during the course of the project. Based on timing and circumstances, we believe this damage was caused by their work, yet they became incredibly defensive, sarcastic, and hostile in our communications. Thankfully our insurance started directing final payouts to our mortgage company, which helped give us leverage and required accountability, so that they could not continue to try to extort us if they wanted a payout. After our experience, we also learned that legal disputes involving their company's leader, Noam, are a matter of public record, which confirmed and raised further concerns about this company. Remediation work requires not only technical competence but integrity, accountability, and respectful communication, especially when families are already under stress. Regrettably, our experience with NB Builders reflected the opposite. We have learned a costly lesson. In the future, honesty, trustworthiness, and a company that clearly seeks transparency and accountability from the outset will be core criteria.
