Five dollah make me hollah! I was a college kid on a budget. What do you want from me? Head out to the boonies of Bryan, TX, and you will find this quaint little winery. For that five dollah (but now ten dollah), I got 4 wine tastings, a keepsake wine glass, and an incredibly informative wine tour from this crazy-cool guy in zany, colorful clothing who taught me how to swirl a glass and make sucking noises while drinking wine. Step into the gift shop and take a look around before the tour starts. Here, you will find cute gifts, a mini deli, and of course, wine. Pay your five dollah to the nice lady and join your tour group. Ours included myself, the Hubs (bf at the time, aww.), two other ladies, and a giant A&M Botany class. The tour started in Messina Hof's gorgeous bed and breakfast villa. They only have a handful or two of rooms, but each room is uniquely decorated based on the name and theme. Our group got to peek into the Romeo and Juliet room. Simply perfect for you and your sweetheart. Not five dollah. Next, we took a stroll over to the vineyards and pretty much ended up taking Grape Growing 101. Be warned, you will end up learning a lot about grapes. The botany prof was pleased. Then we got to go to the rooms with barrels where the magic really happened. Remember Grape Growing 101? Here, we took Wine Production 101. The botany class left after this part was over. There were under-agers that couldn't participate in the.... wine tasting! We headed to the main building with the gift shop, and went towards the back to a smallish room that overlooked the vineyard. There, we sat in rows of chairs while guy in zany clothing told us the about the history of Messina Hof and went into detail about each of the four wines. And then we got to drink our wines! Definitely worth five dollah. Our favorite was the Gewurztraminer. Yeah...I don't remember how to pronounce that. And let's be honest, I totally looked up the spelling too. On the way out, I tried a few other wines (for free) at the deli area. All you have to do is ask for a sample! Everything was pleasant, but we ended up leaving with the thirteen dollah bottle of Gewurztraminer. So affordable! read more

While they do have some great wines, this is about the whole experience at the facility. I have been a member of their wine club for a couple years now but have have always visited the satellite location in Fredericksburg. This location has a bit of a snob attitude. You do not get much of a welcome feeling even after knowing you are a wine club member. Members have to pay for tastings and only get discounts on wine and lodging not merchandise. The tasting and showroom are cluttered and the warehouse dirty and disorganized. read more

We had previously visited the winery for a wine tasting and enjoyed the wine tasting and light menu very much. We saw the restaurant and decided to take some friends to eat there. It is a lovely venue. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. I had the petite filet, my husband had the veal with risotto, friends had the lamb and shrimp dishes. All cooked perfectly. I would recommend the venue for groups or for a romantic dinner for two. Prices are reasonable. read more

there aren't too many wineries in texas, so if you're too poor to go to napa, then this would be one of your local options. when you walk into the entrance, there is a cardboard cut out of what looks like a jersey shore silver club candidate, bedecked in colorful 70s polyester. apparently he is the owner. hey, when you get your own winery you can pretty much do what you want. i didn't care much for the wines in general, because they didn't taste well developed, but i did really enjoy the port. their port is special because it is made from a varietal that when fermented, does not need to have brandy added to give it the higher alcohol content. they have chocolate port truffles which are to die for, and i also recommend getting the artisan goat cheese with chantrelle mushrooms. this goat cheese isn't mass produced, so it doesn't have that dirty barn animal taste. it's super fresh, and unbelievably delicious, especially when toasted on bread. the gerwurtztraminer raspberry chipotle sauce makes for mean buffalo wings, and the jalapeno jelly will totally marry your cornbread. there is a nice outdoor patio walkabout area that is perfect for enjoying the wine and snacks you just bought. the pond has turtles that will pop up every once in a while. stick around to see the sunset, it will be the perfect ending :) read more

I belong to a couple of wineries but I really love this one! We enjoyed a wine tour and tasting with a beautiful girl named Choe and then had supper in the amazing restaurant next door. All of the staff are so knowledgable and so polite! And Choe's presentation was full of her amazing personality. The grounds are beautiful and you feel as though you are in the middle of no where on a wine estate but it is actually right outside of College Station! We will definitely return! read more

I went here for Harvest Fest in August of 2015 and had a GREAT time. We had an orientation and they taught us how to cut the vines properly and we went out and picked the grapes just to take them back and stomp them. We had a winery tour and a wine tasting and everyone was incredibly friendly and fun to be around. I would recommend checking it out. I visted Messina Hof this weekend with 2 of my friends and we had a wonderful time. We live in Houston and wanted to go somewhere out of the city to enjoy some wine and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. We ate lunch at the Vintage House restaurant where the waiter helped us pair our food with the Messina Hof wines we ordered. Then we did the tour and tasting and saw all of the amenities Messina Hof has to offer. We only went up for the day, but we saw the Villa during our stay and for those planning a weekend trip it looked like the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

I tried 9 different wines at Messina Hof. My boyfriend took me here to celebrate my 22nd birthday, and it was awful. The wines either had little to no taste, or they were way too sweet. Our tour guide, Mike, made me feel very uncomfortable because he was hitting on all of the women on the tour consistently for at least an hour. I highly do not recommend this place. You're better off driving a few more hours to Fredericksburg and going somewhere like Becker Vineyards. read more

We went to the Fredericksburg location for a private tour and tasting and loved it. The tour was on the shorter side since the grounds are smaller but the tasting was what made it special. Our guide, J.R., was very knowledgeable about their wines and wine drinking in general which was good for a novice like me. OMG...My boyfriend and I went to Messina Hof for one of their Harvest Weekends and what a scam!! I am embarrassed to say they I bought into their the concept and actually paid to help pick their grapes. For the most part, we actually did enjoy ourselves, but we observed a couple things that will cause me to NEVER buy a Messina Hof product again! I have always believed the you should treat the people around you with respect and dignity; especially, if those people are under your employ. I observed the Winemaker verbally berate one of his staff before a group of people. I continued to observe that particular staff member along with the other staff assisting with the activities and I truly believe that the staff is afraid of him. Shame on you....you should never bully the people who work for you. Shame on you for embarrassing anyone who is on your payroll. We did enjoy our lunch. The service was great and the food was good. We continued on to the Food and Wine pairing class that seemed to me nothing more than a sales pitch for the rest of the anything else that they could think to sell us. After the Food and Wine pairing class, we went to buy a couple of bottles of wine and tasted a few more in the tasting room. The Riesling and Gewurtztraminer are quite nice...a little sweet, but nice. The red wines...well...uh... are they supposed to stain your teeth purple like that? So...I can say that I did it....I stomped like Lucy. I'll never do it again. I'll think twice about buying their wine again. And, I'll caution anyone considering going to their harvest about the sales pitch that they will painfully endure. read more

Went here for a tour and dinner. The tour was fun -- it was for Valentine's day and included a special truffle (that was super tasty and made a noticeable difference on the taste of the wine). Our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable. I answered a question correctly during the tour and got 20% off at the gift shop afterward. The wines were good, and we had dinner at the restaurant after. The restaurant was warm, and we had a secluded table with comfortable seats. The meal was nice and the waitstaff was extraordinarily pleasant. We will return soon! read more

Had 2 very different experiences with the staff the 2 times I have gone. First visit was so awesome- staff was amazing and scenery was beautiful. On my second visit there was a young man and a blonde woman working. They were not very welcoming and served people standing in line BEHIND us first, even though we were standing right at the bar for a while. I don't normally leave reviews but was a strange experience- neither of the staffers said hi or acknowledged our presence even though we were standing right in front of them tying to make eye contact. The winery was not busy that day. We are college students so perhaps they thought we wouldn't tip properly? read more

I stayed the weekend of October 24th in the B&B which was great the staff and the rooms were excellent. The wine tasting and bistro were great fun. I've visited many wineries in CA and the tour here was the most fun . The reason I give 3 stars was down to the restaurant experience , we were really looking forward to the Meal but when we walked across to the restaurant we noticed tables not cleared and we were seated next to a party of ~20 and our waitress had that table plus out 4 and another table of 4! You can imagine what service we recieved? The maitre de tried helping and he spilled my mussels over the table! The food was good but you can't set up a waitress like that and expect great results . I would recommend a visit I hope the management look at staffing the restaurant read more

Wine is decent and experience is okay. Service is mediocre because the staff is mostly college students, unfortunately. I did the "Tour de Wines" punch card which takes a long time and a lot of money invested to receive (50 glasses of wine). When I received my engraved wine glass, the "engraving" was already beginning to rub off the first day I got it. This tells me that it's not an engraving at all, but some sort of decal. Very poor quality and very disappointing when you had been looking forward to receiving this and put a lot of money into it. read more
