I was so excited to finally bring my mom here! It was raining so we took the opportunity to come to the vineyard. The property is fabulous. We had high expectations based on the reviews online. Just a heads up, the chef is out Monday through Wednesday, so you cannot order food unless you go Thursday - Sunday. Wish we had known this fact. The wines vary from $2.50 -$4.00 at the tasting. We will be back to try out the wine tour. read more

We attended wine pickup day and Tommy was the hardest working, knowledgeable and most attentive employee around. He helped me pick wines and described each very well before we selected tastings. He also helped us pick wines outside of our norm for a friend of ours based on how we described what our friend likes. After we bought over a case of wine, he hustled and got us a table in the wine bar so we could go have appetizers and a few more drinks. Great service for a great day. This place is GREAT!! We had the chance to visit Messina this past weekend on a little getaway from the big city (Houston)... We arrived around 4:30 and stayed till about 7 while we enjoyed several bottle of wines and champagne.. We opted not to take the tour and decided to grab a table.. We did a flight for $7.50 and sampled 3 wines each before making our selection on which bottle to get.. Like I said in my previous reviewed of Pleasant Hill, I'm not really a wine connoisseur so I could care less about the wine as much as I do about the atmosphere and the vibe... It was peaceful sitting out near the pond as the sun was setting with a couple bottles of reds, enjoying great company.. We were able to walk around the vineyard and take pictures and feed the turtles left over crackers from our sampling that we had earlier... It was very relaxing... I would definitely stop by Messina again if even for a day trip from Houston since its only an hour and half away.... Great place to getaway!! read more

I visit this place with friends and I live their "naturally sweet" wine. The vine yard is so green and beautiful tontake a walk theough in the evening. I also like the gardens and the wine bar. This is a resort style winery and they host events including wedding ceremony. read more

Saturday and Sunday brunch is a definite must here. The ambiance is fantastic and the food is delicious! Many of the menu items can be made gluten free and the food is well thought and prepared well. I tried the goat cheese frittata today and for only $12 I had the frittata an a cup of fruit. My friend ordered the vegetable omelet and it came with breakfast potatoes and a cup of fruit. My first experience with Messina Hof came a few weeks ago when my wife and I spent the night at the Villa. We had fun tasting a number of spectacular wines at the wine bar, and ended our evening dining on a wonderful meal at the Vintage House Restaurant. Savannah, our waitress was delightful. We enjoyed our stay so much, my wife and I came back this past week for a whole new experience. The Villa and Wine tasting were once again superb. Our dinner at Vintage House was first rate. Our waitress (Kelley B.) was most attentive. She created a wonderful dining experience for us. Our meals were exquisite and very flavorful. I had a perfectly cooked filet steak with delicious seasoning. My husband was satisfied with "shrimp scampi". My only complaint was the seasoning in the oil for dipping the bread. Our waitress, Julia, was so so sweet! If I could, I'd give her 5 stars. However, the actual food was horrible. My partner & I both ordered the pan-seared salmon with rosé/sangria. I don't drink, but the wine seemed quite good. However, the salmon appeared to be almost boiled? It had no texture/sear marks/crust or anything to show it had been cooked. Not only that, but it was NOT SEASONED. Not even with salt! Very disappointing to pay $24 for boiled, unseasoned salmon and 3 pieces of asparagus. read more

This is a family owned business that love what they do. Their passion comes across in their winery. They truly want you to enjoy your experience. My friend and I can for the day and had a great time. We have enjoyed great times in their Wine Bar. The staff is very knowledgeable in making excellent recommendations for each individual preferences in wine. Their happy hour (M - Th, 530 to 630) with 1/2 price glasses of wine is a great bargain. Try their Panini (especially their Caprese Panini)!. My bridesmaids and I took a private tour of the winery and our host Jonathan Mitchell was phenomenal. He was not only very knowledgeable of the winery and its history, but was also a trooper for putting up with 10 women asking questions and requesting multiple pictures. My husband and I wanted to thank all the staff at Messina Hof that helped with our daughter's wedding in December. The event planner that was assigned, Sarah was outstanding and my stress level was completely gone once we arrived at the winery for the reception. Sarah and the staff that assisted her were fantastic, always making sure things were running smoothly, and that our guests were taken good care. We made a reservation on March 21st for April 10th at 4:00 for my daughters ring celebration. We show up and they don't show a reservation and don't even try to accommodate getting us in. Big F from our perspective so if you make a reservation that doesn't mean you have a reservation. read more

Went here last week and participated in a group wine tasting and tour. Enjoyed the visit and really enjoyed the wonderful Texas wines. Wish the tour explained a little more about the science behind the wine making process, but enjoyed it overall. Wine tasting inside the barrel room was pretty neat. If you're an Aggie, make sure to visit the tasting room on a Thursday, when the wine is half-price with an Aggie Ring. Also, don't forget to grab a cup of turtle feed and go feed the little creatures in the pond! :) read more

Messina Hof is doubtlessly in a beautiful location, secluded from the busy college town down a small road. The restaurant is actually really nice inside as well. And that's about where the positives stop. We went for brunch around noon on a lazy Saturday. We were one of maybe 3 parties at the entire restaurant, yet service was meh at best. Our coffee came out with our meal (not before as asked) a solid 25 minutes after we ordered. My "goat cheese, spinach, and roma tomato frittata" would be more accurately described as "spinach and egg pancake". My girlfriend's Eggs Benedict were lacking Hollandaise completely, but were fine otherwise. Our waiter also completely forgot the mimosas. How can you have brunch without mimosas? My espresso turned out wonderfully, while she ordered the "Merrill Mocha" which was more like a watery hot chocolate. We had high hopes which were unfortunately dashed. read more

We love Messina Hof. On our last weekend trip we just had to make a pit stop for a glass. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on their deck with a glass of wine. They have a huge turtle pond and you can feed the turtles for free. Also, they do allow dogs on their patio! Highly recommend stopping by here for a glass of wine! read more

This experience was horrible. We went for my friends 22nd birthday. They were extremely rude to all of us. They didn't have any cheese boards and did not want to serve us. I asked if they could put on the astros (we were the only ones in there) and they said no. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. It also smelled bad and there were flies EVERYWHERE. read more

If you are not serious about wine, this is a fun place, and as others have noted, a great place to take out of towners. They have all sorts of events and specials and what nots, so you can get blitzed here for cheap sometimes. The place is funky, and has this kind of overblown kitschy look to it...like a College Station idea of what a Tuscan villa looks like? Not sure really. The staff and owners are friendly and fun to talk to. I haven't eaten here, so cannot speak about the food. I don't care for the wine. I've tried darn near all of them, and aside from the port, and an unoaked chard, have not found anything I liked. The reds all taste like they've been cooked or left in the sun too long. The whites are better, but far too many skew toward the treacly sweet side of things...think sorority girls and cougars looking for a quick buzz. They made a red blend for the Renaissance Fair that was actually quite good. read more

We came to celebrate our friend's birthday and it was mine and my wife's first time here. We got here at 8 pm, ordered our food, and we did not get our food until after 9pm. Our waitress never refilled our water, our friend had to get up to get us water, our food was bland, and we weren't able to get dessert because the kitchen ran out past their closing. This was definitely one of the worst experiences we have had. The waiters even saw me taking a picture of our friend refilling our water glasses and they did nothing for a while. What a fabulous day my daughter and I had at MHW. THe. Vineyards are lovely and we were treated to an educational and lively tour with Samantha. Everyone we met at MHW were friendly and accommodating but Samantha was something special. Her passion for the winery is evident, and her spirit is fun loving and endearing. Will not be coming back after long time customer and having spent LOTS of money here. - Never answer their phones. - High sales pressure. - Costs of tours have gone up astronomically. (Almost $40 for a couple). - No longer offers free tastes with purchase of bottle (tastings have increased to $14 pp). - Same bottles available for purchase are cheaper at HEB. - Would not even offer a single tasting or simple piece of chocolate for birthday celebration and parent's first time out after having baby...simple gestures for celebrations go a long way to wanting more celebrations here and valuing the paying customer. - Refused to accommodate our breastfeeding infant at Villa (bordering on illegal per new TX laws passed by governor). And the icing on the cake: - After coming into the only open A/C part of the tasting room with our infant in order to feed him and enjoy a glass of wine in the quiet, an employee of the place comes in and starts playing the news on his phone at an unnecessarily loud volume. Like...I could have sworn he had connected external speakers it was seriously SO loud. We were completely unable to enjoy our wine that we paid for in peace...we could not even think to chat with each other over the volume of this news station...we could hear every word. When there are only 2 other people in an otherwise empty room and they are talking at a low decibel, common sense says that you accommodate your own volume for such a setting. This was our first outing after the birth of our child, and they did not help make it special or the drive worth it. A Starbucks would have been more peaceful than me sitting here having to listen very loudly to Donald Trump on some guy's smartphone for over an hour. (We feel like we cannot say anything since we believe he may be the owner? I guess $$ really does make people inconsiderate of others.) Glad the Messina and Hof families have "made it". Us poor pee-ons are not worthy of enjoying our pitiful lives at such an upscale place (especially because we God-forbid made a baby and have no family in-state to help babysit). Anyway, the wine IS good, but the actual winery in Bryan is not worth it unless you are also rich and pretty snobby. Cheers. read more

The tour was so much fun! My girlfriend was visiting for the weekend and we decided to go for the first time. Our tour guide (Alex "like Alexander the Great") was very knowledgeable and was more than happy to answer any questions that the tourist had. (She wasn't an Aggie but we will forgive her lol) We started with a little history of the winery, followed by a tour of the lobby of the villa's, and proceeded with the remainder of the winery. The wine tasting at the end was the best part. The group livened up towards the end when we got to the wine tasting, and there was plenty of laughter. Again, Alex showed us several wine tasting techniques for red and white wines. Together we tried a dry white, a semi-dry white, a dry red, and a dessert port red. The semi-dry white wine was the best (in my opinion) but all the wines were wonderful. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone that has never been, even if you aren't a huge wino (like myself). read more
