Losing someone is a hard situation. In my family's situation, we were fortunate to be with my mother until the final moments of her life. There is really no way to prepare for the emotional side of the journey; however I am truly grateful that on the logistics and coordination side, we chose to use Messinger. I have been to several final viewings in my life, and when my mother stated she wanted to have a final viewing I was worried. With my previous experiences coupled with the current aesthetics of my mother I was genuinely worried of how my mother would look during the final viewing. It is the day after my mother's service and I couldn't be more certain that choosing Messinger was the right thing to do. They really took their time with my mothers appearance and the final viewing was remarkable. The way they coordinated the entire service was done with complete grace and class. My parents chose this place. Let me give you some backstory. A year before I was born, my mom had a stillbirth. When the local priest wouldn't bury the child, Paul Messinger got on the phone and found someone who would, then personally drove my parents over there with a little casket the size of a shoebox in his car. This would have been 1970... and all my dad could talk about was Mr. Messinger's compassion. So in the 1980s, my parents began to make their plans; they prepaid everything, they planned everything with Messenger, they put it all in a binder and told us where to find it when the time came. In the past two years, I've lost both of my parents, and I've had to put those plans into action. Every step of the way, I've dealt with compassionate people who have been more than helpful. I unfortunately lost my sister and as her only nearest nest of kin, I was responsible to make arrangements for her. I was an emotional wreak, but everyone at Messinger was professional, kind, patient, and carefully.They clearly explained the process and paperwork with me. I worked with Director David and he let me know step by step of the cremation process. I never felt like I was just another client or that I was being taken advantage of. We had a very pleasant experience here for my mom's funeral. The staff was very courteous. Marley, our funeral director, went out of her way to make things more convenient for us. We are Hindu and had some very specific and probably atypical requirements for the funeral, and they accommodated all of our requests without making us feel like it was odd. The only hiccup was coordinating timing of the service and the witness cremation, but once we got past that hurdle (with very little effort), everything was smooth sailing. I married my husband in 1969. When he suddenly died in February, 2020, it felt as if I lost my heart. Of course, when someone dies, you have to make arrangements, which was incredibly painful but necessary. Having lived in Scottsdale since 1973 and since I read Paul Messinger's newspaper articles about Scottsdale history, Messingers was the obvious choice. From the moment we (myself and my two daughters) walked in the door, the staff was kind, compassionate and accommodating. They not only met our needs, they anticipated needs we did not know were necessary. Melissa was our Funeral Director. She was just the right combination of sympathy, compassion and professionalism. I called Messingers many times to ask questions or add details. I was always treated respectfully and professionally and never once was I asked to call back. Ben, the creative genius, put together the program and video which clearly reflected my husband. There was staff, including Melissa, who made sure the service we held was perfect and we had everything we needed. Messingers also went out of their way to accomplish something I requested that they ordinarily did not do. And...they did it so beautifully. To sum up, I would highly recommend Messingers Mortuary. The entire staff is amazing, professional and kind. Please consider using Messingers if you unfortunately have the need for funeral services. Bill has handled a few funerals from my grandma to a friends child and has been amazing, hands down amazing. I never expected to write a review about a mortuary but when a group goes as above and beyond as they did you share. We just got through the loss of a family member and my husband told us to "call Messinger" I am so glad he did. From the first call where David gave me so much info that I really didn't need much else. Then our meeting with the director who was a lovely young lady Michelle. She made everything so easy and was never once pushy, always respectful and it was just about what we needed. They made sure to assure us along the way we were doing everything right and on the day of the services we just showed up. At the end the two amazing men helped us get all of the flowers and other stuff in the car, even told us how to care for the flowers and even buckled my grandmother in the car! That is service!
