I had requested the electrician install a new hardwire replacement for an existing video doorbell…read morethat was running on batteries and requires frequent recharges in cold weather and malfunctions often without mains power. It was designed to be wired so I decided to finally have it hardwired. The electrician stacked our job on a priority day classifying it as a security system upgrade. He found my custom signage out front a hoot and made clean cuts and an install that we only notice because of the access panel, which will make self service possible for us reducing later service needs on the system. Seems expensive at the sticker price but for the amount of work done it's actually a good price especially considering the age of our house. Not only did they install the doorbell transformer and access panel but they got rid of a pair of headache switches that were wired to my dang security camera and the interior outlets (because I totally want people turning my security camera on and off from in the building. And I love it when people switch off the water dispenser or Christmas tree or half the damn breaker because that switch box exists. RIP IT OUT and now we have plain new wiring straight into the transformer for the two cameras. Everything was done and finished in about 120 minutes. It's crooked because of the way the house was built. You can't fix a crooked electrical box without a full rewire and I don't care if it's off a few degrees. I'm happy our lights don't have switches and our cameras and doorbell aren't hooked up to a switch. Nice fix

No one I knew had any recommendations, so I contacted a few electricians on Yelp because I didn't know where to start. He responded quickly and was EXTREMELY helpful, talking to me on several calls to give an estimate and initial troubleshooting ideas, including suggestions for what to tell my building's engineer in case I opted to have the engineer try to fix it first. He had me send photos of my electrical panel and he mentioned the brand of breakers I had (Challenger) are known to be problematic and hazardous, so he suggested that I have them swapped out when I have the lightswitch fixed. He said my building engineer could probably do it if I preferred that, which would be less expensive. Because my building just changed maintenance/engineering companies earlier this year and I don't really know or trust the new engineer yet, I wanted to have an electrician do this to make sure it was done correctly. I was impressed by his Yelp reviews, Angie's List reviews, and BBB rating, so I hired him. Chris was super easy to work with to schedule the appointment, and he gave me a 2 hour window for when he'd arrive (and as it approached, he called/texted to update me on a more exact ETA). I ended up having him replace all my breakers, and he also replaced the three light switches that were faulty. He also swapped out my hardwired smoke detector, since my old one was past its prime. I pre-purchased the breakers and detector since I had a few days' lead time, so he only charged me for the switches and his time (which was spot-on with the estimate he gave me over the phone). He also went up on my roof when he saw the breaker for my AC unit seemed to not make sense for the size of my apartment, and sure enough it was not what the AC unit sticker said it should be. So he replaced that one with the correct amperage, which reduces the strain on the AC Unit (so it doesn't get damaged) and reduces the risk of a fire. He also found some problems with my building's roof and some building wiring that was exposed up there, which he photographed and sent to me so I could pass it along to the board and management company for them to handle. Chris is a super nice guy, and he was great at explaining what was wrong and what needed to be fixed without upselling me. I'm someone who stresses out about anything home maintenance because I'm terrified of something going tragically wrong, so I appreciated the info he shared. I've already recommended him to my neighbors in our building's facebook group, and I will definitely hire him again for any other electrical work I may need. (I may eventually get my life together and replace some ceiling light fixtures and install a fan. While in theory I could do it myself, I'd rather not accidentally electrocute myself. Plumbing and electric are the two things I don't mess around with, even for simple fixes).

We suffered a Chinese water torture for 5 days until they could get to us. The plumber said the problem was with the tank and I should also get a new filter. They came back a couple days later with a tank and a filter for $843! Guess what? The InstiHot faucet was still dripping! The plumber said it would stop. It's Ravinia, so I assumed I could trust him. I was wrong. It continued dripping as much as before. So, we suffered more Chinese water torture until they could get back 3 days later to install a new faucet. Oh, so I DIDN'T need a tank and a filter, but you just made me pay for one! That's unethical, incompetent, or both. It gets better. Then they charged me $600+ for the new faucet BUT they took out the new water tank and replaced it with one they said "matched" the manufacturer of the faucet. Wow. They could have just put in any tank--maybe even one that cost them nothing. That's also unethical! So, I called and talked to some woman who said the manager was too busy to talk to me and she'd be responsible. She made some excuses and then tried to smooth things over with a small gift certificate. Really? My husband then called and tried to get a manager on the phone. It's a month later, and we are still waiting. Basically, I ended up paying about $1400 for a new InstiHot system. Just unbelievable, when all I apparently needed was the overpriced $600+ faucet. I will be contacting the BBB. Use these scammers at your own risk.
