The Chinook book took us to the Mon Ami Cafe on our way up to Seattle. It was the morning. They had crepes. Our car took us there. Simple as that. Cute (I don't use that word too often) little place in the heart (?) of downtown Vancouver. Busy on a Friday morning after you would assume most people who have been at work already. Crepes (both sweet and savory) and coffee are the name of the game here. After looking at the menu, my friend and I both decided to have the special crepe with fresh strawberries and vanilla mascarpone. The sun was shining outside and this sounded like the perfect breakfast to accompany that. Along with an iced coffee, I figured I'd be satisfied until we got up to Seattle. One side note. No simple syrup for the cold beverage. I was kind of surprised. There is a chance I didn't see it, but I looked. Sugar is not so good in cold beverages. Eh. The crepe came out. It was the perfect sweetness. It was Spring on a plate. All in all a good experience. Seemed like a mostly local crowd. The barista was talking it up with some of the customers. Always nice to see. Meh, I've had better describes my crepe. I came on a quiet Saturday around 1 PM and loved the cool hipster ambiance and friendly staff. Picking up a menu at the counter, I ordered the vegetarian crepe, made with buckwheat and filled with sliced tomatoes, spinach, and a choice of cheese (I chose brie). The crepe also comes with a small side salad of simple mixed greens drizzled with vinaigrette. While the size of the dish is impressive (and worth the price), my crepe suffered from a severe lack of flavor. The filling made the crepe soggy and the whole thing was so bland that I found myself wishing for oregano, chili pepper flakes, even just salt and pepper to stimulate my taste buds. I left the meal with my stomach full but my taste buds unsatisfied. If I come again, I'll definitely have to order something else. This just did not do it for me. read more

I had the French club today and it was super tasty! Flavors were well balanced, Bacon and Brie, always a great combo. I've been here a few times and service is always good. Staff is efficient and friendly. Decor is super eclectic and a bit grunge. Local artwork covers the walls. It is dark and cozy which is a nice change from the stark white ultra modern cafes. The only thing I didn't love was the music was the radio so there were commercials. But besides that I've always enjoyed the food and will go back again. I give this place 4 stars: The good - *delicious food *large selection and vegetarian options *reasonable prices *polite service The so so - *interior, table locations are not very comfortable, few 2 person tables along the wall, couple not so clean couches and one huge table for like 6-8 people where we had to sit, just awkward seating *only one table outside and it was taken by some hipsters probably all morning so chances of enjoying breakfast outside are slim, I guess they have no policy to restrict the outside table for customers only. *if you order savory crepes it comes with greens but they have only one option for dressing and it's vinaigrette *coffee is so so but I understand it's not exclusively coffee shop it's a crepes place so :) 4 stars over all would come again! read more

Crepes! Those that pay close attention to my reviews know I love me a good crepe (see, e.g., my review for Le Happy in Portland). Upon a friend's recommendation, Ms. K. and I gave this a shot a coupe weeks ago. It was great! $3.50 for a basic crepe (powdered sugar), and then on up to $5 or $6 for the more complicated ones. Ms. K. had one with gruyer, pear and ham (I think?) and she really enjoyed it. They have most of the standard flavors (powdered sugar, chocolate, lemon, etc., etc.). Not a huge amount of options for crepes, but great bang for the buck. I believe they also have wifi, if that's important to you. I didn't get a chance to try the coffee, but the friends we were with did, and said it tasted great. Definitely worthwhile to stop by if you're in the area! read more

I'm in gluten free heaven! My date got the spinach, bacon and cheddar crepe and I got the Nutella and bacon (usually comes with raspberry jam but I left it out to control sweetness) both were so delicious we each ate half and switched! I also got an eggnog latte which was really tasty! The atmosphere had cool and unique art as well as non uniform tables and chairs. Great stop! Super easy access off the freeway too :-) read more

Overall Score: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 When you enter Mon Ami  you are greeted to the sound of New Orleans music. The space is long and tight, but not claustrophobic, with a lot of art hung up on the walls. There is nothing overly memorable about the decor, but the smells coming from the kitchen were more promising. Like a traditional coffee shop, this is a sit anywhere type of situation. So feel free to pull up a seat at the window bar or one of their many tables. Speed of Service:5/5 I went on a Sunday morning and expected a long line to be seen. However, the wait time was an unnoticeable 3 to 5 minutes. My party and I used that time to review our menus and place our orders at the counter. Once you order they give you a funny toy table marker as opposed to a regular numbered table marker. Given that each of us ordered a Crepe and a coffee we knew it might take a little while. So we each served ourselves to the self-service water station and settled in. I would say that the total wait time from placing the order to food-in-mouth was just under 20 minutes. Not bad considered that there were 3 of us in my party. Quality of Food: 4/5 Bee Hive Latte - surprisingly not too sweet. Smooth with a very comforting aroma, like days past watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating Honey Nut Cheerios type of comforting.  Turkey, cheddar and Tomato Crepe - surprisingly the main protein in this dish was NOT dry, which is hard to achieve with turkey.  Good balance of the core ingredients. The salad was a bit sloppy in presentation but tasted great in combination with the turkey crepe. Brie and Jam Crepe - was good but could have been great. Thankfully the brie wasn't overpowering the jam. Unfortunately, the ratio to brie to to jam was a little off. I would have preferred a bit more of the jam. On the topic of jam, while not advertised, I wonder if this jam was homemade? The homemade jam that I'm used to is a bit thicker in consistency. However, the jam found in this was a bit runny and felt like it misses its true potential. Customer Service: 4/5 There is little interaction necessary for a coffee and a crepe. That being said, they were pleasant and attentive throughout the morning rush. -Free wifi available! -Big  Plus, there is a Public parking lot a few feet away from this establishment. -I'm not too thrilled of the the single bathroom. So be sure to keep your eye on the line to the restroom if you're the type of person that coffee can race through. Revisit Potential: 4/5 Overall, I think this would be a great place to revisit. This is a neat little hipster place in the heart of downtown Vancouver the staff is very welcoming and friendly nice environment. My husband and I tried each one savory and one sweet crepe and he had the smoked salmon and the peanut butter and jelly I tried a few bits of each and really enjoyed the flavors and I had the vegetarian with feta and instead of tomatoes I had roasted peppers I really enjoy this crepe very fresh and light also had it with the gluten free dairy batter and then the sweet crepe I had was the cinnamon honey banana pb with fresh strawberries very good but little too sweet for me. This is my favorite place in downtown Vancouver to stop for a bite to eat. The crepes are substantial and filling (though not cheap) and the savory ones comes with salad greens on the side, so I can convince myself that I'm being a tiny bit virtuous. I've enjoyed each crepe I've tried. The kids love the gluten-free crepes, hazelnut with banana or jam. Coffee is good (and yesterday an employee mentioned being able to get a refill, though one cup is always enough for me). We always leave happy and full. I enjoy the ambience, too, the art on the walls and natural light. Every time we go, it's bustling (and can feel a bit close at times). You do need to order at the counter and bus your own table. read more

Used to be packed all the time as the go-to place for crepes in the area. They took away the crepes in favor of a simple cookie-cutter sandwich and salad menu and now it's pretty dead. I see that the owner makes a point to call reviewers rude for being critical of their business, but rather than being bitter about the decay of their cafe I hope they can remind themselves what made the business a Vancouver staple and return the place to its formal glory. read more

Quaint little place in downtown Vancouver serving up yummy crepes and surprisingly good coffee. Expect a wait. TL;DR: We stopped by here last weekend with family. We ordered the ham, pear and Brie, the simple with lemon and powdered sugar, the turkey, feta, red pepper and the special which was fresh strawberries on top with a sweet cream filling. I give this place 4 stars just for the high quality ham they use and the delightful options. It all tasted very good though I personally prefer butter or at least more powdered sugar on my lemon crepes (to be fair... I didn't ask for either and probably would have gotten them if is did). Everyone at our table really enjoyed their order and the coffee is way better than I'd expect. I knocked a star off for the REALLY LONG wait. Way longer than what you'd expect for crepes. They do seem very busy so maybe that is normal or maybe they were short staffed or slammed just before we got there. Definitely worth the wait though so would just advise new people to plan accordingly. Would definitely go again and wished they were in our hood as they are better at crepes than most. read more

Love this place! Great crepes and they even have gluten free options! I love the savory side of the menu with all the unique options and pairings of ingredients. I love going to Mon Ami. I can be found there about once a week eating a sweet crepe. Their food is delicious, their front end service could be a biiiiiit better and more prompt. Today was a bit rough with us waiting to order for a good fine minutes while one gal kind of puttered around and the guy chatted with someone behind the counter. Came here the other day with my buddy Johnathan "the Goose" Hickter. Everyone hoots and hollers about the crepes being gone but I have a (very rational) fear of crepes so I am happy that they are gone. Good riddance if you ask me. The coffee is good. The barista gave me a sassy side-eye as she poured my coffee which is what I prefer in my customer service personally. It's been a while since I the last time I ate crepe and I was having a hard time finding them until I decided to try Mon Ami. They had so many option of crepes (which is great) and I chose their special one. I also ordered their Mexican mocha and it was delicious and rich with that chocolaty cinnamon taste is my favorite. And for the special crepe it was very delicious! T has some strawberry and cream cheese which reminds me of strawberry cheese cake and me and my daughter loved it. I even had to order one to go for my husband also an excuse for me to have some more bites from him haha. They are great so I'm going back for more to try their other crepe. read more

I love this place. Ate the grapes here almost every morning I love the fact that they use Stumptown coffee. They have some great places inside to play board games and hang out, they have Wi-Fi as well. I like the fact that they have both savory and sweet crapes if you are a crepe fan you will love this place. Conveniently located in downtown Vancouver this place is going to be around for a long time. I will say sometimes it takes a little bit to get your order as they only have about three or four staff members there at a time but it is well worth it the line can get kind of long. But if you go on less busier times of the day you should be good. They also have a great outside seating for you and your friends if it's nice outside and you guys just want to enjoy the weather while eating. Great location. Very friendly customer service. The coffee here was so bland and almost no coffee taste just a lot of milk. Which I was surprised because they serve stumptown. The crepes were really good. The staff was not too friendly. It's a hit and miss here. On one occasion everything tastes good but the last 3 times not so much. read more

Showed up for breakfast with my family Sunday morning and ordered after 2 other people in line, with 3 more people behind us. They were getting busy. It took 45 minutes to get our food. 45 minutes!! Someone should have told us how long it would take to get food! They need to communicate that to their customers! That could lose business. I turned to trusty yelp to help me find a yummy cup of coffee near our hotel and it lead us to Mon Ami Cafe. The hubby and I split a triple shot mocha and a PB and J crepe. The coffee was really tasty and not strong at all, it was hard to believe it was a triple shot. The crepe warmed our empty stomachs too and was the kick start to our vacay. The people working here were very friendly and patient with us as we were deciding what we wanted. We found this place via Yelp when we were out and didn't have time to look at their menu prior to heading over. I knew it was a creperie, but their breakfast crepes seemed limited (or at least they didn't have what we were hoping for). They have a big list of savory crepes and sweet crepes. We really would have liked to have seen a crepe with eggs. My husband ended up going with a pre-made scone which had bacon in it, and I ordered the cinnamon crepe (which tasted exactly like cinnamon toast crunch, BTW). It was really cloying, and I felt sort of queasy after. The pear crepe looked really tasty. I've had sandwiches made with the same ingredients in the past, but it was time for breakfast and I wasn't in the mood for salad (all the savory crepes come with a side salad regardless of the hour). Several weeks ago, I decided to give them another shot. After all, I live right around the corner from the shop, and it seems that they do have a good local reputation. Plus, I hate giving One-Star reviews, and I had hoped to offer a new review. Unfortunately, I had another challenging experience here. Once again, I was provided a different drink from the one I had ordered. To make matters worst, the barista blamed me of placing a "wrong" order. Fortunately, he offered to make me a new drink - "yeah, we don't usually do this." What a guy! With an attitude of sheer benevolence, he handed me the drink saying something to the effect of "here's the 'right' order... You've got make sure that we hear your order 'right' the first time...alright?" Yes, that's right, the customer is in charge of making sure that the barista and/or counter person is listening! Also, the customer is in charge of absorbing the blame if they mess-up on your order! If they do mess up your drink order, then they may find it in their heart to make you a new drink... Starbucks and Blue Door are down the street - way better options. read more

Mon Ami helped top-off a most satisfying 24 hour blitz that we took to Vancouver this summer. My husband and I rode the train to visit friends last July and were swept off our feet. They drove us around on a brilliant tour through downtown, uptown, and all over Vancouver and Portland, as much as we could fit in. Both cities we instantly adored. That Sunday morning before church, we made a stop at Mon Ami. Our host raved about their coffee and crepes. True to his word, this was one of the best wake-ups I've ever had. The coffee was perfectly brewed and rich in flavor, and the crepes were the size of a serving platter. We each tried a different filling: smoked salmon and cream cheese, spinach and brie, and banana-nutella. So much goodness on one plate! I love the eclectic ambience, an excellent mix of music playing, and the laid back staff. I cannot wait to visit my new best friend, Mon Ami, the next time we're in town! read more

The gluten free crepe is the best one I've had so far in my GF travels. I was slightly terrified while I was eating it that they gave me the wrong one on accident, it tasted so good. They don't use a separate grill for the gluten free crepes but after stressing to the girl how allergic I am, she cleaned it off (and the utensils) for me, which was so nice and appreciated. I stuck with a vegetarian crepe, which was delicious, but they have a ton of sweet and savory options, with plenty of meat options for those so inclined. The brie is amazing on the crepes, FYI. Arrggg... Ok...I go here because it is mere blocks from my house. The vanilla chai is decent, they have wi-fi, are independent & I like the atmosphere, but today they earned one star.... When you take a coffee shop with wi-fi which allows you to hang out a 1/2 hour after they close the door & turn off the 'OPEN' sign I didn't expect this... I was in the middle of a financial deal when without warning they turned their wi-fi off & I was left stuck. The deal was totally gone (Not stocks), but it was gone. I asked the barista if the internet had gone off & without missing a beat she said they turned if off at 4pm when they close. Even if I hadn't been working on a financial package, just plain rude. While I might return mid-day, I will not be going here in the afternoon but return to Blend which is a good 10 minute drive into North Portland & a longer drive fighting rush hour on the way back. read more

This isn't your local Starbucks--and thank god for that. They feature delicious Stumptown coffees, crafting delicious lattes and mochas while quickly french-pressing your favorite blend of bean (if you prefer it black). Virtually every barista is top-notch, especially the morning crew. You wait a pinch longer than you might at a chain, but the end result is an exponentially better cup of coffee. It's well worth it. Save the world one delicious independent cup of coffee at a time. The crepes are delicious--the pear, brie, and ham crepe is my favorite (surprise, surprise, I like meat and cheese), but they have several options (dessert and vegetarian, for example). I've never been disappointed. There is, however, sometimes a bit of a wait for your crepe as the multi-tasking baristas go from making drinks to making crepes and back again. If you're there later in the afternoon (or if you like to drink anytime, like I do), you can grab a beer or glass of wine with your tasty treat. I recommend this place to friends and family all the time. If you're in downtown Vancouver, you have to stop by. read more

I came here a few weekends ago for brunch. I had a gluten free crepe, and while it was good, there was something that irked me. I am dairy free and gluten free and I ordered the one crepe that didn't have cheese on it on the menu. I don't think I misread because I read that menu about 5 times. When I got my crepe it had cheese on it. I was sad - and didn't realize it had cheese on it till I was halfway through one of them. The coffee was good though, it was Stumptown, but the mocha I got was a little grainy tasting as well. Overall it was good, though a little pricy, I think. 20 bucks for two crepes and two mochas? Maybe I'm stingy but it seems steep. Maybe the cheese thing was a one time incident, and I'll review them again when I make it back there. read more
