This review is long overdue. I've gotten takeout from methi five or six times and dined in three times now. The value of the lunch menu is really nice especially for the area. I'm actually glad it's just a little bit away from the main downtown area. It feels more like a neighborhood haunt than a place for a special occasion which encourages multiple visits and always makes it seem like it's always a viable option for choosing where to eat. I really wish I could get into nitty gritty details about the flavors of all the different dishes but truthfully I've tried too many over too long a span to be specific. I guess I just recommend going outside your comfort zone a little. Go one spice level higher than you normally would, get a dish you're not sure you can pronounce correctly, and please, whatever you do, order too much food. The naan is a particularly nice item I'd like to shout out. Soft and chewy and perfect for scooping up your curry with. The pickled veggie salad is pretty good too. To be fair, I've almost always ordered from the veggie side of the menu so I can't comment on how their chicken is but I assure you that every veggie entree is delectable. Not one to leave reviews usually but in this case I think it's warranted. Ordered take out for me and my vegetarian partner. We Both got the paneer tikka masala. First off, the oil from the "sauce" was just sitting on top. Weird I thought, but we went ahead and tried it anyways. One word: Gross! Tried to mix it and pour some of it out but it didn't make it any better. Literally tasted like I was dipping my naan into a giant tub of olive oil. My partner then bit into her "paneer" and we found out very quickly that it was actually chicken. This place lacks flavor, can't follow directions, and isn't very authentic. Your best bet is to go a mile away and go to Sargam Indian Cuisine which is the best Indian food in Walnut Creek or heck even go to Trader Joe's across the street and get their frozen Indian food. This is by far the strangest Indian food I have ever experienced. The Tandoori Chicken "Kebab" was chicken cubes mixed in with a broccoli and zucchini stir fry in a bowl... It's like someone stir fried some chicken and threw in a bunch of frozen vegetables. The Chicken Khorma didn't taste or look like any Khorma I've had before, even the color was off. The Veggie samosas were too dry and the pastry shell too thick and over cooked. The salted Lassi had a very odd taste and was "off". Seems to me that the food was adjusted for "local" tastes rather than going for any shred of authenticity. Service was weird as well. Kept asking how spicy we wanted the Tandoori chicken which was a surprise and threw me off. Also, while we were clearly still eating and the server asked of if we were done and needed boxes. When I said we are still working on it, the server came back 10 minutes later and asked the same. I am addicted to the chai and chai means tea so it's not chai tea. It's just chai, Masala chai, it's very good. I love it. I get it sugar-free it's made with black tea and it keeps me going all day and I sleep nice and hard at night, I highly recommend it. read more

Very good food. I think this is a keeper. In the location next to the Habit, it used to be Baja Fresh, and after that Kokolo. I hope Methi thrives, as I prefer it to a lot of the choices in Walnut Creek. Our favorite is Swad in Lafayette (other than going to Berkeley) but sometimes the service is spotty in that particular restaurant. I like the decor, it's a small restaurant. They kept it simple. I recently went to Methi with my family. The food, service, and decor was excellent. We ordered a variety of dishes, including lamb korma, chicken tikka masala, goat curry, and a couple appetizers and veggie curry. The food was really good. The chicken tikka masala in particular...its a dish that's always a crowd favorite, but this one was super good. It was less tomato-y and less red than some other places, and didn't have that "Campbell soup" flavor I sometimes get. The chicken was white meat, but super moist. Most dishes were ordered "Medium" heat, and it was on the less spicy side of medium. We got garlic naan and paneer naan, and it was really soft and fluffy. They offer a couple unique dishes I don't see often, like pani puri, which was fun to try. Prices are a few dollars more than casual Indian restaurants, but its Walnut Creek, and the quality of the food was worth it. Service was friendly and attentive. The food came out very quick too. They have an open kitchen so you can see your food is made fresh. Decor inside is really nice too. This is a good place to take a date or family gathering, if you want some place a little nicer. We were there on Monday 7pm, and the place was roughly 1/2 full. Big parking lot right outside. I'd put this in my top 3 Indian restaurants in the area (the other 2 being Naan N Curry, and Masala House). read more

Indian food is not my go to food but I really enjoyed eating here! The restaurant was completely full when we arrived so l recommend making a reservation just in case. The waiter was very fast and friendly. The food was very good and garlic nan was so fresh and hot, straight out of the oven. They have a good selection of Indian and American beers as well as red and white wine. I'm bringing my husband next time, he will love it. read more

I'm not sure if it was what we ordered but very disappointed. I've been waiting for a dosa spot in Walnut Creek, so we ordered the dosas, papdi chaat, chicken samosa and aloo paratha. While the paratha and chicken samosa was average, the dosa should not be on the menu. The dosa was thick, super soft and crumbled and what I believe was supposed to be the coconut chutney tasted like it was sour cream. Only one small, minor issue. After asking if the spice level would be "American spicy" or "Indian Spicy," we settled on ordering medium. Wonderful experience! We've ordered twice now and haven't been disappointed by anything. Appreciate the clearly marked vegan options (takes the guess work out of ordering). Slowly trying all the vegan menu options, and everything has been absolutely delicious. The aloo saag, Chana saag, and aloo gobi are our favorites so far. The vegetable biryani and samosas are also excellent. The vegetables in everything taste fresh, the flavors are bursting from each dish, and everything is piping hot. Our other non veg family member really enjoyed the coconut chicken curry, garlic naan, and lamb korma. The vegan and non vegan Lassi drink was also very good. Would love to see Roti on the menu! No pictures because it was all devoured so quickly, but next time! Ordering online is very user friendly, easy parking, and the staff is SO kind.
