A low key bar. It has good drinks and expensive ass food. Metric has basically Italian stuff. Lots of alcohol choices and many wines are available. The service is as slow as molasses. It was definitely not crowded. Sparse for a weekend evening. That wasn't a good sign. After sitting at the bar we waited for a bartender. We kept waiting. Finally one came. The drinks are okay but kind of high priced. It's $7 for a well cocktail. The wines are priced ridiculously. Looking over the food menu we became disappointed with the choices. The food is very expensive and it's not even anything exquisite. Pretty much no vegan choices. The menu is mostly fried stuff. After all this had transpired we decided to be finished. My husband surprised me by taking me here one evening, because I have lamented about the lack of Haitian food in New Haven. Haitian food requires a lot of time, love and effort so it's nice to be able to pick something up when you don't feel like spending hours in the kitchen. Being from NY, I am definitely spoiled with Haitian culture and cuisine! But I was pleasantly surprised to learn of the Haitian community in Fairfield county. The owners at Metric are such a delight. I believe the restaurant has been here for 20 years. The husband Pierre is originally from the L'Artibonite region in Haiti where my family is from. And our region is known for our delicious rice and fresh produce that is the heart of the country's cuisine. His wife Eve is not only stunning but she makes great drinks as well. I ordered the legim (vegetable stew) with diri kole (rice and beans) and banan peze (fried green plantains/ tostones). The portions were generous, but most importantly, the food was very good. Everything was so fresh, made to order and many of their ingredients come from the Bridgeport community garden. The legim contained the eggplant that a community member brought in just an hour before. And the fried okra that we sampled came from there as well. The familiar sound of kompa was music to my ears. Pierre even gave my husband some samples of tassot (fried turkey). If you're Haitian or familiar with Haitian cuisine, ask for dishes even if you don't see them on the menu, they can accommodate you. It was also heartwarming to see the non-Haitian regulars enjoying our food and culture. They make American dishes like pizza, but when you come to a Haitian restaurant, you come for authentic Haitian food and I believe they do that well. Worst experience ever.. walked in and nobody greeted us or even acknowledged our existence. It Was a complete ghost town (this should've been a red flag tbh) not a single worker in sight for the most part and when we did see one they were unapproachable. Waited 30+ minutes for two salads and In the end there was nothing we asked for in the salad. We paid extra for cheese that wasn't even added on..instead we received two tiny pieces of shredded cheddar (yummm :|) and my partner had bones in his salad. I go here every Wednesday for comedy night. The acts are pretty good for a $10 cover. The food is hit or miss, more often than not a miss. The Haitian black rice is excellent if its fresh. Its often not, usually warmed up with bits of old dried rice mixed in and sprayed with oil to look moist. This wouldn't be as bad but the plates are an average of $25 each so making smaller batches of rice just makes sense. Re-warming old rice is just cheap. I mean its rice, not handmade pasta. Stay away from the burger. Its just too much for me to go into as to why. The wings are usually dry and overcooked too. The cooking oil is old so the fries are subpar as well. The service is slow. Incredibly slow with any kind of food usually taking about 30-45 minutes to arrive. I once had to chase down a waitress to pay my bill. Like literally walk behind her and make her run my card and give it back so I could leave. I was tempted to leave without paying (I'm sure many have done so) but I'm a regular so bad blood isn't my thing. Bottom line? If you aren't going for the comedy go to Fairfield or Blackrock for a decent meal at less cost. read more

My family came here the first night I moved to Bridgeport, as it was the only place open that late. When we walked in, they told us the kitchen was closed. But as we were leaving, the hostess chased us down and told us the chef had just walked in and that they could serve us. We were seated in the room next to the bar area, and were the only guests there. You could tell that they had just mopped the floor, because the room smelled of dirty mop water, not an appetizing start to the night. We ordered a wide range of food, from shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, and seafood pasta, to pizza and the chef specialty of the night-goat. I was very impressed with the shrimp cocktail, very flavorful and the perfect texture. The crab cakes were alright, but they had nuts in them which I found unusual. The seafood pasta could have been better, as the shrimp and lobster were very overcooked and the entire lobster head was cut in half and thrown onto the plate, so when we took it out most of the sauce went with it. My mom ordered the pizza, which she was a huge fan of, but it reminded me of a very plain, simple Tostitos microwave pizza. My stepdad had the goat, which I didn't venture to try, but he said lots of good things about. I would maybe go here again, for the shrimp cocktail and a cheap beer, or if I wanted something close and late night. I have been there a few times for lunch - and it was always "acceptable." Nothing great - but fairly solid. The service was never great - they even forgot about us a few times as it was quite empty the times we were there. Again - fairly forgivable. But this got crossed off my list when I ordered a cheeseburger medium rare. The burger came out raw inside. When I sent it back, they scraped the cheese off the burger, wiped the cheese on the bread and recooked the cut open burger and served the hockey puck back to me. Came on a Saturday night around 6:15 with my girlfriend. We had a Groupon for $24 for $12 for a dinner for two. Street parking nearby; the road the place is on is under significant construction. Very quiet when we arrived, I think we were the only two customers actually until a couple other middle-aged men showed up for dinner too eventually. The waitperson who greeted us announced we could sit anywhere we'd like. The furniture is run down but the tables and chairs are solid and quaint. There's what looks like a very nice bar in one half of the place and tables and chairs in the other half. All throughout dinner, I enjoyed the background music which was at a slightly higher volume than I would say is usual at a place during dinner; fun music though, I was bouncing around a little at the table enjoying myself with my girlfriend chuckling at me that I would break out dancing any moment... The specials looked pretty pricey but nothing piqued our personal interests that evening. I tried to order an appetizer of crab cakes but was told they would not be ready for a while yet; after considering other options to start, I asked the waitress what was popular and she listed several menu items which began with none other than the crab cakes. Since I am a big crab cakes fan and she also recommended them, I pushed a little to ask when they might be ready and she went to check and said in about 10 minutes (this was about 6:30pm I think); I told her we would wait and would like an order of them--great decision, some of the BEST crab cakes I have EVER had!!! The cakes, the sauce they came with, and the included greens with a balsamic dressing were likely all homemade and extremely tasty and satisfying. For dinner, I had the penne pasta (another recommended dish by the waitress) and my girlfriend had the chicken caesar salad. Contrary to another review I saw here, the pasta was above average in my pasta-dish-critical opinion--the sun-dried tomatoes really made it as did the parmesan cheese I asked for. My pasta came with a small salad ahead of the meal, and we were brought complimentary bread and butter. Everything looked and tasted fresh and homemade; I wouldn't have been surprised if we had learned that the parmesan cheese was even freshly grated. My girlfriend said her salad was very fresh with warm homemade croutons and tasty chicken. Bottom line: the place could use some refurnishing, the service was slightly above average (somewhat slow in my opinion, even despite the intrinsic expectation of longer time given fresh homemade food), the meals were truly great, and the Groupon was a great deal. We ordered our dinner through their online service. Food arrived at a timely manner HOWEVER the food was HORRENDOUS! The nachos which is supposed to have blue and yellow corn tortillas did not have even one blue tortilla and the chips were soggy. The meat or whatever was on top of it looked like dog food from a can and the cheese appeared to have been melted by a microwave. There was no salsa, tomatoes, or any other type of ingredients. The pasta was undercooked and bland. The crab cakes were rubbery and might have been nuked in the microwave too. We ended up throwing all of the food away. The result was a bad case of food poisoning. Major stomach aches and frequent visits to the restroom. We love this place!! Consistently delicious food. We do take out and delivery a lot, and this is by far our favorite local joint to order from. The Au Gratin soup is ridiculously good - I have to order it EVERY time! I'm also a big fan of the classic Nicoise Salade, and my boyfriend loves their Black Angus Burger. Nothing has ever been a disappointment here, money well spent! Tonight a chef actually delivered our order, and she was so delightful! Omg! Ok. So the atmosphere is like a very elegant hole in the wall. We waited about 30-45 min. for 6 appetizers. It's seemed like a long wait but once we got them. This place seasons their food amazingly. They are Haitian I believe. We ordered the firecracker wings, creole shrimp, and pork and plantains which were phenomenal. We spent $40 and definitely got our money's worth. The portions are generous and the quality of food is top notch. Below is what we ordered: Rustic wings: Wow! They were delicious! They were seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Excellent. Chef Pierre Crab Cakes: OH EM GEE!!! These crab cakes made me feel like I'll never need to go to Maryland again. They were that good. He adds some shrimp and some magic to it that make them divine. Jambalaya: If you're a seafood fan, I definitely suggest this plate. It's seasoned well and is served over rice. There's shrimp and mussels and scallops in addition to the sausage and chicken. It's quite tasty! Overall: The food was great! They only thing that doesn't make this 5 stars is that it is hidden away and hard to find. Not the fault of the owner Chef Pierre, but I believe there would be a lot more traffic if it wasn't tucked behind the McDonalds on Main Street in Bridgeport. That being said, Chef Pierre is the best chef in Bridgeport hands down. I have seen him cook for 200 people at a catered event and it could not have come out better. He impressed our out of state guests and charmed everyone with the quality and presentation of the food. He has also accommodated me when I want something off menu. I have had appetizers at the bar after work and they come out as put together as a four course meal. My lunches are always fresh never shortcuts in ingredients, flavor or details. I hope that you will try out this very Urban Chic Carribean vibe. The people there are warm and willing to please. Bring a crowd or just yourself. Drove up from NYC for a show at Webster Bank. Stumbled upon this place by accident. Bar and restaurant were both clean and nicely decorated. Was immediately greeted by the bartender and shown to a table. Food selection was nice with an entire page of Haitian specials. I opted for a Reuben, my wife went for the Goat and got a mini pizza for my grandson. The bartender thoughtfully suggested a Shirley Temple for my grandson, which he loved. My wife loved the goat, tender and full of flavor. My reuben was good only the corned beef was a little tired but still okay. My grandsons mini pie was perfect for the little guy. We checked out Metric because of a special offer and are so glad we did! The food is world-class, cooked with love by a charming chef (he came to our table and spoke to us) who clearly loves food. His influences are multi-national and his seasonings diverse. And the prices are VERY reasonable for the high-quality ingredients used. Ambience-wise, think urban Cheers, a neighborhood kind of place. Give Metric a try. Edited to add: I forgot to mention the service, which is very friendly and attentive. Update from 7/25/15: We went back for our wedding anniversary. The food is still slamming and our server was lovely, with just the right balance of friendliness and suggestions. We had the special conch, which we'd never had before. We had been worried that it might be chewy, but it was tender and flavorful. On our server's suggestion we tried the special jerk shrimp and chicken - much more subtle and complex than any jerk we've had and outstanding. The only issue I had with it was that the tails were left on the shrimp, which is messy in a sauce. I'm a bit worried about Metric. As great as the food and music were, we were one of only two couples in the dining room and the bar was empty. The slightly out-of-the-way location may be hurting them and I hope that they make up for the sparse evenings with their lunch crowd. This is a restaurant that deserves to succeed. read more

So, I've been here a couple of times, the first time I sat at a table where I had a I-don't-remember, but it was good. This time I went to the bar with a few friends. The bartender was Eve. Let's talk about Eve. Now, I don't drink alot. And when I do, I get the standard girlie drink, margarita, or a mojito. I was feeling adventurous when Eve asked what I wanted. I told her I wasn't sure, then she asked what type of drink I liked. I told her fruity. She went to work. I don't know what she put in it, but bottles were being poured. Needless to say, the drink was strong (if you're going to do it, do it), and delicious! She knocked the drink out the park, so I decided to let her choose my meal as well. I told her I wasn't too hungry and didn't want anything heavy. She recommended the mushroom (did I mention I love mushrooms) quesadilla. De-li-cious. Plenty of oowey gooey cheese and large slices of mushroom. Why haven't I thought of that combo in a quesadilla before?? Will I go again? Absolutely. I'm sincerely hoping my review gets people to ignore every other terrible review here. They're just wrong. This is the most relaxing low key place to find yourself on a weeknight. I believe this yelp page is a bit sorry and a poor representation of the place because, and I say this lovingly, the crowd is urban and they simply don't review their fave establishments on yelp.com. Chef Pierre is the bomb, he's the owner and head chef. If he's cooking you're in the money! The restaurant is haitian owned and so most of the dishes (and there are asian, italian and american choices among other things) have a great kick whether in flavor or spice. They will make you anything you can think of, order your food exactly as you'd like it. If you have kids ask what they can offer you, they can usually come up with things like little burgers or mac and cheese or grilled cheese or a cheese pizza. The girls who work here are incredible. If it's not too busy ask Yve (Eve) the bartender who kinda runs the show to make you something awesome. Ask for a Shut the Fuck Up if you want a drink that'll floor you if you attempt to drink more then three. They're delicious. If it would honestly bother you to hear other people enjoying the space and having a good time then fine, go elsewhere. On the weekends there are parties in the evening with DJs which may or may not be your thing so call and ask about when that goes down. I believe it's still Hip Hop on Fridays and Kompa/Zook (I may be spelling that very wrong but it's haitian island music and everyone dances) on Saturday nights, it feels like vacation, TRY IT IF YOU'RE ADVENTUROUS and want an experience you actually WILL NOT get anywhere else in Bridgeport. On these nights they are open til 2 am. Happy Hour mon-fri 4 to 7. Try the Cremas if they have it, it's a creamy alcoholic drink from Haiti, related to Coquito if you've ever had that. Totally yummy, they serve it room temp, two cubes of ice are a great thing to ask for in it. Be kind and respectful and you will recieve the utmost respect, Bridgeport's a rough place and the staff really appreciates people who are there to eat great food, relax, and unwind with some drinks. I ordered catering from this restaurant and the day of the party they don't show up or even call!!!! Can you imagine how embarrassing it is to have 30 people show up and there is no food??!!! For a 75 year old's party none the less!!! So extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate. I wish I could give this restaurant and the chef named Pierre ZERO stars. I got in touch with Metric Restaurant to find out if they could cater my 75 year old mother's birthday party. I spoke to Pierre on the phone and he said yes to the job and quoted me a price for the event. I then went into the restaurant to pay a deposit and firm up the details and that is when Pierre proceeded to try to change the price he had quoted me. He now said that certain items were not included in the quote, etc. I felt like he was trying to swindle me the entire time. We then settled on a price and since I was already feeling uncomfortable, I asked him for paperwork to firm up the catering which I am so happy I did because I have proof that I paid for a service that was never rendered. He asked me to pay him the $250 deposit in cash and I said I would feel more comfortable paying with my credit card. Good thing I did because I ended up having to dispute the charge with my credit card company since Pierre also neglected to return my texts requesting a time to come into the restaurant to get my deposit back. Anyway, the day of the event, I called the restaurant many times to check on my catering -- no answer. Then at midnight I got a text from Pierre saying that he was in a car accident that morning. I think someone's life is more important than my catering so I felt bad for him but at the same time -- why couldn't he have gotten someone to call me? Or why couldn't he have called me earlier to let me know?? This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a restaurant and will never go there again and am spreading the word on how unprofessional this chef and restaurant is. I'm also Haitian and want to support Haitian run businesses but this was beyond terrible and needs to be told. read more

I hope we hit Metric on an off night. The place was empty, except for two kackling shrews at the bar. Otherwise- NOBODY. My husband had a chicken and shrimp alfredo. He is pretty easy to please- and he had a few comments: shrimp was definitely frozen and overcooked, chicken was overcooked as well. I had the Arrosta Beuf sandwich, and I'm not sure how they accomplished this, but the beef was rare, but well-well done, cold and fatty. It was quite a culinary feat! also there was a garlic mayo on it that was SO garlicky, it was really just gross. The french-fries that came with it, however, were very good. HOT and very crispy. Service was ok. Not particulary attentive nor inattentive. In general, it was just... mediocre. We would not return. read more

Urban loud is just what it sounds like. Loudmouth, bellowing patrons can inhibit any good time. That said, the visit was not too bad, the service was better than I had been led to believe, and if it hadn't been for a psycho mind- shift by my date, I might have enjoyed it more. My burger was cooked as I had ordered, the fish that was ordered by my wife seemed to be OK, or maybe not, or maybe it is somehow my fault, the jury is out on that! And if the band had not repeatedly subjected us to cold drafts while they brought in the equipment, it may have been a better experience. I come here with my old co-workers due to its vicinity to the train. It's a no frills bar and I can respect that. Thank goodness the waitstaff are friendly because they are slow. The food is good and they offer happy hour specials, but they are also slow. To combat this, I order immediately upon stepping in the establishment and I order my next drink when they bring my drink. What a pleasant surprise!!! I had a most delicious lunch here today, my first visit. I had the opportunity to meet Pierre, the chef. What a gracious man! Me and my friends all started with the Maryland crab and corn chowder. It was outstanding. Not too buttery, not too thick and the crab was not overpowered by the corn - something I find too often in chowders with corn. For my main course I had the veggie sandwich that was served with rice and beans. The veggies were grilled and seasoned to perfection and the toasted bread balanced it all marvelously. Save your money folks!!! There's so many better places to go get drinks and clean food! The food/drinks is over priced, and to make it worst they have a Fly Infestation (gross). They try to keep the lights low so you can see them. Bugs are all over the food/drinks and you would have to continue swatting them away, and the restaurant is old & not clean. I'm surprised they haven't been shut down by the health inspectors. They left the kitchen door open while cooking and we witnessed the Chef drop food on the floor and put it back in the pot (disgusting)!! I went to Metric for a late night beer after having a wonderful time with friends at another establishment. I paid the $10.00 cover charge to get in, proceeded to walk across the dance floor to the bar (the only way to get to the bar) and I accidentally stepped on a dancer's foot. The woman hit me in the neck. I didn't want to cause a scene and explained to her I didn't intentionally come to this place to step on your foot. I was understandably perturbed by this and sat down to order a beer. (side note, I asked for a glass for my beer and was given a wine glass) I explained what happened to the portly female security guard regarding the accidental foot incident. The security guard in turn told me the female that hit me was her sister. I ended the conversation at this point and sat back down to finish my beer. The other portly male security guard came over to me and said "she (the female security guard) said you have to leave and we will refund you half of your cover charge" then he walked over to the door by the bar and held it open. I NEVER stay anywhere I am not wanted. I left my partially consumed beer, took my $5.00 refund for the cover $10.00 and left. Moral of this review, I went there to unwind from having a wonderful time with people I had not seen in years. I get assaulted for accidentally stepping on someone's foot. I get put out after calmly going to security to explain the situation. I will not be going to that establishment and I do not recommend it to anyone. Establishments need to comprehend how to run a service industry when people are spending their hard earned money. My husband and I have been to Metric many times and things have gone so far south we will never go back.. The kitchen is very slow and the service is below average. The food has always been tasty so I can't complain about that at all. The problem is the lack of care for the experience of people dining. When you walk in the bar entrance everyone stops to stare at you enter and the volume of the people at the bar spills into the dining area. On a Friday night the dj walked back and forth bringing in equipment next to our table. That same night a loud and drunk guy crossed back and forth from the bar to the dining area interrupting everyone's meal. There is no proactive management to stop these problems. The final straw was a guy eating McDonalds outside the door and collecting a $10 cover charge from each of us for a comedy show when we came to eat and use the groupon we bought.
