We were seated right away on the dining side away from the bar area which was really nice . Greeted by our server staff. Food was fresh. We ordered a small plate calamari which was amazing would have liked a larger portion but it was still good for the 2 of us. Chipotle dipping sauce and marinara on the side , chipotle was a nice touch . Ordered a special (burger). I did inquire that it's not a patty which it wasn't . Made to perfectly. Yikes! We went for lunch on a Saturday and had a bafflingly bad experience. We were seated immediately and waited on quickly, at least at first. The server took our drink order (an iced tea) then disappeared. We didn't see that drink for 15 minutes. When we finally got i, we ordered lunch - a salmon sandwich, kids chicken fingers and BBQ chicken wrap. It took about 35 minutes for the food to come out. It didn't seem all that busy, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. The food was not great. The chicken fingers were fine, as was the salmon sandwich, but the BBQ chicken sandwich had a single bite of chicken in it. Might as well have called it a lettuce, cheese and BBQ sauce sandwich. I don't think I've ever had that happen to me at any restaurant ever. I would've flagged this privately to the server, but she never checked in on us. In fact I didn't see her until I had to flag her down to get the check brought over. Didn't seem like it was just us either. The table next to ours forgot about a kid's chicken fingers entirely. Awful service. Altogether a bad dining experience. There are plenty of other great spots in Fairfield instead. read more

My girlfriends and I would come all the time when we went to college at Fairfield. Coming back to visit I brought my own family which was surreal. It wasn't too crowded on a Tuesday night so we got seated right away. We probably were a bit underdressed as it can be a nicer place to go for dinner. It is on the pricier side for sure. When it's busy it can be loud, but it wasn't bad. Our waitress was nice. They still had the same menu items which made me happy. I got the angel hair bolognese which was so delicious. My husband did the angel hair shrimp pasta which he said was good, wished the tails were already off though lol. My step daughter and her friend got the cheeseburger and they said it was good, one was very overcooked though. It was nice to be back and see nothing had changed. read more

My friend and I wanted to eat a nice leisurely lunch outside on a gorgeous day before heading to a late afternoon movie next door. Although we arrived just shy of the 12pm opening, they welcomed us to sit and order drinks. The outside dining area is lovely with lots of flowers and plants, and a relaxed atmosphere. Our waitress brought water and took our drink order right away. We were in no rush to order which I think may have aggravated our server as she seemed annoyed, grimacing, and then aloof for the remainder of our visit, which definitely put a damper on our experience. My friend chose the wedge salad with steak and I decided on the Brie Croquette salad. I am not usually a fan of fruit in my salad, but the apples and strawberries melded perfectly with the arugula and candied almonds. The dressing was light and flavorful and the Brie croquette was a creamy and crunchy delight. I also enjoyed the crostini with fig jam. The wedge salad with added streak was tasty and both salads were good portions. The dessert menu looked great and we would love to try next time. The bathroom was immaculately clean. Had a great night with family and it was nothing less than fabulous! Sat outside and it was beautiful. They have heaters, in case it is cool. The food, excellent! Clams on the half shell, juicy, fresh. Had zuppa di pesce and it was amazing! Even had scallops and a nice piece of salmon! Others had the mussels, spaghetti with clams, shrimp and tuna tar tar. We have always dined in the downtown Fairfield area and have seen this place but for some strange reason we just never dined at this restaurant. Definitely glad we decided to give them a shot. The restaurant is very nice with windows everywhere. For starters we had the oyster special. We always enjoy having oysters. These were a bit small in size, but they were good. For dinner I had the scallops served with veggies and my girlfriend had the beet salad. Both of our meals were delicious. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the veggies were excellent. Sometimes when you order veggies they are very bland and simple but these were cooked with plenty of flavor. The beet salad was plentiful and very good. Really enjoyed our family night out at the @old in Fairfield. The food was very good. We started with the fresh oysters , French Onion Soup and Nachos. Highlight of dinner was the Seafood Paella; good portion of seafood and meats with a nice little spice to it. Kids enjoyed their dinner as well. The crème brûlée and apple tart desserts were delicious. Although they were very busy last night, the food came out in a timely manner. The service was fantastic! Without a reservation, the hostess accommodated us as quickly as possible with a table of 4 outside on the patio. With the heaters, it was very comfortable sitting outside. Our waiter was excellent, was attentive and served everything in a timely manner. Very well done. With so many more delicious options on the menu and the great service we experienced.... We had a private party with about 15 upstairs, very nice up there and we had our own bartender too! The drinks here were very good, I had the espresso martini and tried a berry cosmo. We had a variety of apps like steak tips, buff cauliflower and calamari. The steak tips and calamari were tasty. The major miss was the French onion soup, it had so much bread and cheese that it actually had little to no broth. It almost tasted like I was eating mashed potatoes in a soup bowl. For dinner I got the strip steak, it was well cooked and had good flavor. It came with mashed potatoes but should have also come with a veggie side. For dessert I got creme brûlée, it was very good.. mine was very good. Others in our party had them come in a soup bowl though! Weird! We really liked our server/bartender. read more

This past Friday, I went to the Indiana Jones premiere with my girlfriend Elizabeth and her parents. Prior to the viewing, we went to grab dinner at Old Post Tavern. We started off the dinner with the popcorn shrimp and the soft pretzels. Both of these small plates were delicious. I highly recommend the popcorn shrimp. Elizabeth and her parents got cocktails that they thoroughly enjoyed. After they finished their cocktails, her parents got wine with dinner. For my main course I got a half order of the lobster ravioli. I found it to be the perfect size for my dinner, and it was a savory dish. I was pleasantly surprised by how great the meal was. I was here a couple of years ago and it was fine, however nothing to write about, so I didn't. Today we had an awesome meal! The half portion of shrimp carbonara was plenty coupled with a beep tips small plate. My husband had the BBQ burger cooked to perfection. We gobbled up the food so fast, the picture was snapped half way through the meal! The only area of improvement could be to cook the beef tips for less time. While the server noted the temperature could not be taken, other restaurants use bigger cuts and are able to test the temp. Great flavor, just overdone. The ambiance is nice with spacious outdoor seating and nice interior when the weather is colder. Great spread of price points on the menu makes this a nice place for fine dining and family gatherings. read more

This was our second time here and we had a nice dinner with family. Service was excellent and they did a great job staying safe during the social distancing. Staff had gloves and masks on, tables were 6 feet apart and they take reservations. Our waitress was excellent! Started with a cucumber mint vodka drink that was so refreshing and pretty! We ordered burgers, steak tips and my son had the kids sirloin, which he said was great. Burgers were very good, steak tips were just okay. Last time we ordered them, they were much better, so must depend on the day. The only down side to this is the location. Right on a busy corner in downtown Fairfield with no parking. It was a Friday night and the place was packed but service was very good. The food I got the Filet and Wifey got Paella The Filet and Cherry Peppers Sauce was very good. I subsisted the fries for some veggies. Cooked to the right temp and good seasoning. Wifey love the Paella. Both dishes were played beautifully. And the cream brûlée was excellent. Came here for lunch and sat in their lovely outdoor dining area. The outdoor seating is so cute and perfect for those summer days. My friends' and I just split a bunch of food as you can see in the pictures. The food was oh so yum and honestly when we divvied up the price, it was not bad at all. Stopped by for a late lunch recently with a friend. I ordered the mussels in Pernod which were quite tasty, except for the toast served with them. This bread tasted as if it were dipped in salt. I ordered the corn chowder to take home. It was like a pudding; very thick cream and probably an added thickener like flour or cornstarch. I went there with 2 children ages 6 and 3 as I was told they have a children's menu. We ordered the cheeseburgers and fries. Those cheeseburgers looked like big clumps of ground beef. My 6 year old couldn't even take a bite out of his burger. When I asked the waitress if the burgers were children size because it looked just like the one I ordered for me she said yes and walked away. I really like the Old Post Tavern and generally have good experiences there. But this past time, the food was pretty disappointing. I asked for my burger to be medium to medium rare. It arrived totally well done. Completely over cooked. My wife ordered a wrap that had almost no chicken, no sauce and was pretty much flavorless. Oh well. I hope it's better next time. read more

If I'd known it would be like this, I would have tried it earlier. OPT balances on the edge between pub and fine dining (the napkin is cloth, espresso is available, but you can still get a burger that is not deconstructed and where the cow is not called by name) and does this balancing act well. Really well. Oh, heck, order dessert because it's just so nice, well. Service was perfect, and for a woman dining alone, I promise you, that is not something to take for granted. My sweet potato fries were the best sweet potato fries I've ever had -- they stayed crisp for the entire meal. The lobster bisque had chunks of lobster! My calamari was fine -- when OPT calls something a "small plate," they are not kidding. It is small. The warm apple tart was splendid. Best yet, when I signed the check, I was thinking how fun it'd be to come back and try other menu items. This is just about how I vaguely hoped colonial-ish inns in Connecticut would be, so I'm already thinking fondly of dining here while snow falls gently. read more

This place is always packed and I cannot understand why. The food is average and the service is abysmal. I went one evening and the waiter was very clearly annoyed to be there. It was 8pm and he probably wanted to get cut soon, but he literally loudly sighed and stormed away when he saw the hostess seat us in his section. From there, the service was rushed and it was clear he was trying to get us out quickly. Very rude and we had to ask for things like water, silverware, refills, etc. Just a very unpleasant, odd experience. I felt really weird about the whole encounter so I called the next day to tell the hostess about how disappointed we were with the lack of customer service. She basically said "I'm sorry, that's too bad." She didn't ask who our server was, what time we were in or anything. She just literally didn't care. As a paying customer I would have appreciated a higher degree of customer service, but fine! I won't be back and I'll make sure to not recommend it to anyone who asks. read more

I've heard a lot of great reviews regarding this place but I left the restaurant a tad underwhelmed. I spilt a cheeseburger, french fries, and a salad with grilled chicken with my fiancé. The bun was way too big for the burger and the lettuce way bigger than the bun. They also forgot to put cheese on the burger, which was a bummer. I enjoyed the French Fries but my fiancé was not a fan of the Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. The salad was fine but the chicken way overdone. I don't know if I'll be coming back. read more

If only we had known that an Archie Moore's was nearby, we could have been spared a poor meal. Yes, they were busy and the staff seemed overwhelmed. Several appeared to be new or poorly trained. Only at the very end of our meal did we interact with an experienced professional wait person. We could have put up with that if the food was good. It wasn't. The clam chowder had almost not taste of clams. My friend said that "Snow's canned chowder was better." She was also delivered steamed clams when she had ordered steamed mussels. it was switched but it took a while. I had nachos -- what a disappointment. It was mainly cheese. No salsa, a little guacamole and few greens on top. The "steak" was tiny cubes of dry, overcooked meat. For the $10 extra for the steak - I had barely half a cup of these almost inedible cubes. The nachos promised tomatoes -- the few I saw were diced like the pre-cut tomatoes from the supermarket. All in all not a good experience. read more
