Had dinner there a couple weeks ago and am remiss I'm not giving them a great review. I had lamb and my wife had salmon. Both were really good. Ambiance in their deck is nice. Service is great. Place is very comfortable. Anyway ended the night with a bread pudding dessert that we shared. Both agreed its the single best dessert we've had in ages. Kudos and congrats to Metro Bis. read more

Normally lunch is just lunch. However I felt compelled to write a review for an excellent little restaurant within the Simsbury 1820 House called Metro Biz. I had a wonderful lunch...the Grilled freshwater prawn wrap. Huge shrimp, crisp romaine lettuce , roasted tomatoes, shaved onion and spicy tarter sauce. There was also a small portion of penne pasta on the side. The shrimp was grilled perfectly and the combination of everything was awesome. Excellent service and historic charm. I highly recommend! Four of us from out-of-town enjoyed a delicious lunch on the porch last week. The food was superb, service attentive, and ambiance fantastic. It was a pleasurable experience, and I hope to return again soon. Everything about this restaurant/B&B is perfectly done. When a wine glass spilled, they replaced it graciously without additional cost. The white chocolate bread pudding was divided so they presented three separate plates, beautifully presented to each of us. Each plate was a more that adequate serving. In addition, it was simply delicious. I highly recommend Metro Bis as a delightful dining experience. read more

My wife and I recently dined at Metro Bis for the first time despite being in the Simsbury area for several years and were extremely satisfied with our dinner. Started with the crab cocktail and the Metro greens salad, both were well done, highly recommend the crab. For dinner my wife had the beef tenderloin, which was delicious although she asked for it med well and it was closer to well than med. I had the short rib - fork tender and thoroughly enjoyed each bite along with the well balanced risotto that accompanied it. Save room for dessert - Bread pudding and apple tart were fantastic. The pastry was done to perfection in a moat of caramel, lick your plate good! Our server was very pleasant and offered recommendations on request. She also clearly takes pride in the food and experience as she regretfully informed us she wasn't comfortable serving up the creme brûlée as it wasn't properly set when we were ordering dessert. Friday night was our first visit to Metro Bis since they moved to the Simsbury 1820 House. The new digs are very nice but because the dining rooms are chopped up you feel as though you are missing something going on in the other rooms even though you know its just other people eating! Part of the charm of the old spot was the single dining room which had a lot of juice to it when it was full and where, invariably, you saw your neighbors or friends. We dined with another couple and collectively we agreed that it was a good if not great meal. We expect a lot from this restaurant and it didn't deliver to its usual standards on this particular night. Fried calamari could have been hotter and more generous and was salty as get out. The Spring roll appetizer was good but not cheered. The beef tenderloin special was good but a small part of the steak was a bit tough - not right for the dish and the price. One member of our party thought the trout with sweet potato hash was waaay too salty. He happens to be bald (claims its a hair style) and, as Rudolph would say, his head was brighter than a blinking beacon. Over salted was, unfortunately, one theme of the night - you know what I mean - on the ride home you give your wedding ring a tug and not only will it not be coming off in the short term but you may have to cut it off to restore circulation and save your digit. My wife had the braised boneless short rib which she liked a lot. Our waitress was great and the cocktails were very good but you aren't getting any extra pour in their glass size - not a fan of small cocktail glasses I have to say We've probably eaten at Metro Bis a dozen times before the move and the meals were simply better than what we experienced on this night. Hard to believe they have lost a step so I'm guessing our 3 star night was an aberration. read more

Lunch menu Cobb salad and turkey wrap made with some processed meat listed as turkey that was very unappealing and almost seemed fake. I suggest they increase prices and use real turkey. Room very pretty but very noisy. I do not think the Cobb salad serving was particularly large as previous reviewer wrote. Salad greens also need to be upgraded to nicer quality. read more

Celebrated our 50th anniversary here last Saturday. We cannot thank the entire staff for making this evening so memorable!! our party of 10 dined in the charming private Eagle Room, but prior to this, had cocktails in the parlor in front of a blazing fire. We were treated to more appetizers than I had ordered....a truly lavish spread appeared. All our dinner choices were outstanding and the carrot cake for dessert could not have been better. Mediocre restaurant at best. For whatever reasons the food was better at its' former location. Service was good because there were not many people there. The pork was tough and thin. I decided to make a reservation here for my fiancé's 30th Birthday. Based on the reactions and lackadaisical approach by the servers, I could tell we were not going to receive the same level of service let's say an obviously wealthy straight couple would receive. We ordered appetizers, entree's, and desserts. Not once did a server ask us how our food was. We were never asked if we wanted additional drinks, nor was anything special provided for my fiancé after I had informed them prior to our experience that we would be celebrating her birthday. At first we thought our treatment had to do with our age, and the server's presumption we wouldn't order enough food to warrant a decent tip. However, an even younger couple came in and sat down next to us, but received a noticeably higher caliber of service almost immediately. It was difficult for us not to then assume our treatment had to do with our sexuality. Needless to say it was a very disappointing experience, especially for my fiancé, who I had just wanted to feel special for an evening. The food was simply okay and my fiancé's duck was noticeably dry and lukewarm. For the kind of money you spend in a place like this it shouldn't be far fetched to assume you will receive amazing food and additionally amazing service. Lesson learned - never assume. read more

I had the tenderloin steak, which was good, but the restaurant seemed to focus a lot on seafood(octopus, 2 salmon dishes, scallops, and cod) for a french restaurant and as seafood is not my favorite thing this was a bit annoying. What I had was nice, but for some reason they put natural onion rings with the tenderloin and extremely salty mashed potatoes. A good meal, but a bit low quality for the restaurant. read more

The location history of this establishment is well documented in Dan R.'s review. Metro Bis has moved to larger locations since their original location 25+ years ago at the Simsbury Shops where they had a well deserved reputation for top notch food and service. We experienced great food and great service in their original location which we frequently patronized and loved. Sadly it has all gone down hill from there. First the 1820 House effort, and now at their current location in a renovated building that is trendy and a nice place to see and be seen in. We recently reserved a private room for a 15 person luncheon for a milestone wedding anniversary. Even with a one week reservation, and ordering from their recommended Prix Fixe menu, the food was poorly prepared and underwhelming. The wait staff appeared disoriented and confused with service provided by what appeared to be local high school students with no experience serving a larger group. Comments on the food; Cob Salad- salty lower quality deli meats; Crab Cakes- mushy and tasting of cod liver oil; bread pudding- just plain bad, and, as stated by one of our guests, was "a very poor attempt to hide old stale bread." To say the least were very disappointed. I did not want to cause a scene with our invited guests by asking to speak with the management, so I wrote a simple short note on our receipt: "Bad food, poor service, we will not be back." Metro Bis is now in the 1820 House in Simsbury, a much better and less noisy location. My dinner was excellent, but my husband's swordfish was mushy and not worh the price. In the old location the food was always good, and I presume that the swordfish was just an aberration. read more

We visited there for a birthday dinner. It definitely seems more popular among the older, retired crowd. We had drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. Overall everything was good. The service was ok. We went on the earlier side for dinner and it wasn't very crowded. There were a lot of waitstaff running around but it's not clear what everyone was doing. The ambience leaves something to be desired. It is very bright in there, even at night....maybe so the older folks can see the menus. read more

Since the move to the 1820 House thee kitchen has refound its stride. The menu is expanded ( although still lacking in creativity) and what it does it does well. Salmon was fresh and cooked perfectly, short rib and rissoto were on the spot. Desserts were good, although salad was not crisp and spring rolls were overly crisp. read more

We ate here for our anniversary last nite. Our first time to the new setting and it is beautiful. The service was wonderful and they even had a special rose on the table in honor of the occasion! I have celiac disease and they were very attentive to this. As soon as I told the waiter , he made sure to send out a special cracker bread that I could have in place of the pita bread. Our dinners were excellent , especially the salads . The only disappointment was that there were no GF desserts, but we were really too full to even consider anything more. We had high expectations for Metro Bis. Sadly, we were disappointed. Certainly not worth a 55 minute drive. We had a reservation but our table was an outdoor garden table with a metal iron waffle grid which explained why our glasses were always tipping. The goat cheese appetizer was wonderful but the flat iron steak and Arctic char mediocre. The waiter broke the cork on our French wine then spilled the remainder. A real disappointment. read more

Wow. Metro Bis is a place my wife and I always talked about going and never did, until this past Saturday night. We will be going back, frequently. The setting, in the Simsbury 1820 House Inn, is gorgeous. It's old-school class and luxury in a relaxed and calming atmosphere. We would have asked to be seated on the porch but it was simply too hot out, so we chose to sit inside. We arrived early, 5:35, because the couple we were meeting have an infant and couldn't stay our late, and our waiter told us as we walked to our table that the place would soon fill up. He was right; by 6:00 every table was full. The service here is as good as you will have anywhere. The time between ordering drinks, be it iced tea, beer, wine or a cocktail, is incredibly short. It's as if they had the drinks pre-made and just waiting to be delivered to the tables. Having said that, they don't rush the food out, not by any means. We sat and enjoyed the warm pita slices with house-made spread and a side of olive oil, and then had our apps. I had Thai spring rolls which were amazing. They come with spicy cabbage slaw and a dipping sauce, so well done. My meal was halibut, served pan-fried with sliced pan-fried potatoes and delicious greens, spicy and crunchy, which were both a perfect compliment to the fish. Speaking of the fish, it was fresh, flaky and cooked perfectly. All four of us had different meals and all four of us raved about what we ate. As former restaurant owners, my wife and I know the issues that arise constantly, from having lived it, and thus can tell you Metro Bis gets it all right. The challenge in that business is recreating the magic night after night, and, based on this experience, the magic happens here on a routine basis. read more

We live out of state and make it to Metro Bis a few times a year. It is excellent every time. I have never had a dish that I didn't like. It is served perfectly by an outstanding staff of three waiters. The new location is icing on the cake! This is worth the trip. read more

I don't know what all the hoopla is about. My husband and I both had expensive entrees that were run of the mill blah. I looked forward to going to Metro Bis for a long time and I was terribly disappointed. Just didn't live up to all the rave reviews. We won;t go back. read more
