Wow, what a difference a few months makes! I had first gone to Metro Computerworks when Clem worked there. It turned out my computer didn't have any major problems. He suggested I run a virus scan to get everything back to normal. I did that and everything worked great. He saved me a load of money. I went again a few months later. It turned out - Malwarebytes had sent out a bad update and it started to recognize everything as a virus. Amin told me about this, suggested I do a system restore, and it all worked out great. This whole time nobody charged me anything. Both Clem and Amin said they didn't want to charge me for something that was common knowledge. Anyway, I go in for another virus and meet the owner. First, I get to hear about all his personal problems (business is slow, I don't like my employees, (wah, wah, wah) and he tells me it'll take a hundred bucks to tune-up my computer without really taking a look at it. I used to go here to avoid this BS. Now, it seems like, since everyone's gone that I'd have to deal with that BS to continue being their customer. I know a business needs to make money to make money. But - shit - I'd rather they take the time to look at my computer before deciding that I have to spend a hundred bucks. It used to feel like they looked out for my interest. I have gone to Metro computerworks since 2006 when, while I was functioning as the Security Officer for my HOA, the PC computer controlling the system went down. I have been back several times with a MAC, once in the middle of writing some important stuff for work and once when the computer just showed signs of being ill with a virus, when supposedly MAC's didn't get viruses. Today I took my relatively new iMac desktop in because The RAM kept filling up and the computer ceased to work informing me I had run out of memory -- all in the first 15 minutes after I turned it on. I am essentially computer illiterate but struggled through several days of trying online solutions before giving it up and heading across town to see Marcus. These people (Gene and Marcus are who have worked with me) are knowledgeable, creative, think outside the box, and were excited back in the day when I actually had a MAC virus. I know they worked on my computer for at least 2-3 hours, but charged me way under what I expected to pay. Today was the same. It was fixed in under half a day and for a very fair price. Years ago after growing increasingly exasperated by so-called "computer tech experts" who were mostly learning their trade on my dime, I met Gene Gratton--also known as Metro Computerworks. Since then, Gene has been my go-to guy on any and all computer issues. When I was younger and less experienced, I bought a prebuilt PC with a water cooling loop. This PC served me fine for about a year or so- until one day in 2015 the heatsink cracked right down the middle and lost basically all cooling power, completely putting my only computer- which I also used for work- out of commission. I had no idea how to safely work on a water cooled system, so I frantically thought about what my next step should be. We both have used their services, both in office, in our home, and bringing our gear to them, many, many times. Gene, the owner, came to my home to trouble shoot. He marched through all of the steps I had tried and then launched into communication protocols that I was unaware of.
