I went to 3 orthodontists that are in my company's employee discount program (they all have good rating on googles too). I felt disappointed and almost gave up on my braces wish because those orthodontists treated me like a client who they were about to rip off... I took a break from shopping around for about a month and decided to make appointment at Veil. I went in for a free consultation with the young orthodontist in glasses, he answered all my questions and gave me a quote. I requested 6 front clear ceramic bracket but i didn't get any extra charges (I asked the other 3 places and they all said I would be charged $200-300 more). My total payment was quoted and it was even cheaper than the 3 places I had gone to. I finally got my braces on in April and currently a patient. I am happy and felt guilty for thinking all physicians in orthodontic industry are there to rip me off. It was a right decision that I shopped around because I can see the differences in prices and the attitudes that I receive at Veil orthodontics. My treatment is only at beginning stage, I don't know how my result will look like at the end, but I think this place deserves more than my recommendation so I wrote this.

We were able to get a morning visit, just before school started. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and kind. The doctor we met with was very knowledgeable, and everything we needed to know was explained well. They said that we would wait for the new teeth to come in, and then start the work in his mouth so that we didn't put braces on twice. I appreciated that. They said that in about 9 months they would send out paperwork to begin the process. I felt they were very thorough, and we left knowing exactly how things would go.

Dr. Trudy Bonvino disagreed with my son's dentist on needing a trainer. Dr. Trudy Bonvino also waits until all the 12 year old molars come in and your teeth have fit in your mouth before aggressively putting braces on your child. All these yearly evaluations have been free. My son might need braces in the future or maybe not. They also provide free fitted mouth guards for your kid when playing sports. We love their free smoothies made with juice afterwards. They have a wooden coin they give kids upon checking in and you can buy things with it. If and when my son needs braces I may shop around for price and maybe bring him here for orthodontic braces. Nothing wrong with free evaluations.

I even changed my insurance to be able to check this place out! I absolutely was not disappointed. Plenty of parking available in the shared lot with other businesses in the building. The office is very inviting, clean, and organized. The staff has been top notch throughout all of my communication and visits so far. Major shout out to Jenna, who went out of her way to welcome me, learn about my needs/anxieties, and make sure that I felt at home and safe. She even offered local recommendations since I'm newer to the area. My favorite part of the visit was that they offered a menu of items to make me feel more comfortable in the chair! I chose a stress ball for this visit, but might choose additional items on future cleanings! Why not make it feel like a spa visit? HUGE shout-out to my hygienist, Eriel!! She was probably one of the best hygienists I've ever had. She was non-judgemental, sweet, kind, explanatory, and made sure I was doing well and comfortable throughout the visit. We had great conversation, and I felt like she had genuine interest in making sure I was in a good spot. I'd highly recommend her! Dr. Heidi Smith, was also very friendly and helpful during my exam! Lastly, I think they did an amazing job of being upfront and honest about cost throughout my visit. Anything not covered by insurance was very clearly articulated and I felt like I had full control of whether or not I said yes or no to the options. This is huge, because no one likes to be surprised with a massive bill at the end of your routine service. I can't wait to keep coming back to Heart of the City!

I really appreciate being able to go to a place where you don't get shamed for any dental issues too. If you've ever heard "It looks like you haven't been flossing lately, hmm?" or something similar, you know what I mean. Special shout out to the hygienist Dani who was really easy to talk to and gave me some really good insights about what sort of ways I could prevent some issues beyond just brushing/flossing that was knowledgeable and relevant (look into a waterpik to help my gums, but mouth wash wasn't really needed since I had good enamel from brushing alone already). However, in less than two years the braces came off, and our daughter's smile was absolutely gorgeous! I expected that after braces her teeth would be better than before, but I didn't expect that her teeth would cause just about everyone she meets to comment on how beautiful they are. She is thrilled, and so are we. We also appreciated how convenient our appointments were. We could always get an appointment just before or after school, and we were in and out of the office in no time. Dr. Gau and her staff were wonderful, and truly we couldn't have been happier. I have friends that have taken their kids to the U. for their orthodontia, and paid less. Those friends continually say what a hassle it is, and how they need to take half a day off work and pull their kids out of school every time they have an appointment. I also have friends who have gone to other local providers who charge more, and I don't believe they got any more for their money than we did (except possibly a fancier office!). When I finished treatment and got my permanent retainer, I was verbally told that if I ever needed a replacement it would be a small fee. Two years later I called to get one replaced and was told the office doesn't keep the models or scans they used to make the retainer, so I'd have to pay $600 for them to take new scans and fabricate new ones. When I explained what I'd been told, the response was essentially "we have no record of that." Keeping the model would be easy; throwing it out and forcing patients to pay full price again feels like a deliberate business decision to squeeze more money out of people. If it's too difficult for them to keep the models, they should at least hand them to the patient or clearly disclose up front that losing a retainer means paying $600 to start over. It's especially disappointing after being a patient for so many years. I won't be returning.
