I'm surprised to see that I am the first to review! I've been coming to Highgrove Dental for over 6 years now. Dr. O'Neill is professional, friendly, straightforward, and very knowledgeable. Each room has a TV and headphones, so you can watch cable while you get your teeth cleaned. My hygienist, Sonia, is gentle and fun to chat with. I've had a couple of the other hygienists over the years who were also very capable and sweet. The front desk ladies are super nice and genuine. The office itself is nicely decorated and kid friendly. There is a small kids reading area and a prize box. I definitely recommend Highgrove! read more

I am beyond satisfied with the overall professionalism and quality of work done in this office. I moved to the Highland Park neighborhood a year ago and was referred to this office by a friend. Going into my initial consultation I was well aware of the significant amount of work that needed to be done to my teeth. The hygienist was very attentive in cleaning of my son's teeth. Additionally, she was kind and responsive hygienist (cleaned thoroughly and she let him see his mouth on the camera). That noted, we will not be returning because of the dentist's surface-level treatment (rather than an in-depth look at his teeth and lack of engagement with my son as his patient). His reserved (which felt condescending) attitude and the hygienist's commitment to traditional gender norms (my son loves pink and blue and wanted a pink toothbrush and she kept pointing him toward the ones in the blue box) prompted me to be concerned about future communication between us. We are seeking someone who we view as more committed to a meticulous and educational process and with stronger interpersonal skills. read more

I've been a long time patient at this clinic and I've always been very pleased with the care. The staff are friendly, competent and very flexible. Dr. O'Neill has always done a good job for me and my family. The clinic is particularly helpful in getting you in for urgent dental appointments when needed. Several reviewers seem to have neglected their teeth as I did. When I went to this office 15 or so years ago, I had no idea what needed to be done. Terry layed out a plan and we moved through it with excellent results for me. He saved teeth so they could be capped or veneered and I left without having any discomfort. Dr. O'Neill strikes me as competent professionally (he's been my dentist for several years). But, unfortunately, I'd have to grade his "chair side" manner as just short of awful. Dr. O'Neill did dental veneers for me several months ago. In his defense, I did not ask many questions going in (note to self), and it was very much my own decision (as opposed to being foisted upon me). I had issues afterwards, however; challenges with speech and pronouncing certain sounds, and discomfort with my bite. I found him to be very dismissive of these concerns, and patronizing in his responses. The bite issue was so bad that I finally went to another dentist in the building where I work. He took one look at my teeth and proclaimed that I was grinding my teeth excessively, pointing out particular areas of wear that were well beyond normal for someone of my age. He suggested a splint, and within days of wearing the appliance, my bite was back to feeling "normal." He added that without the splint, he would have been surprised if my veneers would have lasted past a year or two, tops. Just yesterday I was in for a six-month cleaning. I saw Dr. O'Neill only briefly and had one lingering question / concern regarding my veneers - the fact that by day's end they feel very dry and almost sticky. Again I found his response to be very dismissive; brush your teeth and you may want to try this gum. And he was quickly - very quickly - gone. If competence trumps demeanor, I would still recommend Dr. O'Neill, because I think he is that (competent). But, boy, when things got sticky for me, and all I wanted was to feel heard, and perhaps some practical advice or reassurance given, I found him to be very sorely lacking. read more

Sonia who I request to clean my teeth is the best, friendly, fun and most important gentle. Everything that is done on my teeth is explained out and understandable from start to finish. Dr O'Neil does everything possible to make sure you are receiving the best care possible. If he is not able to perform a procedure he will lead you in the right direction. Literally horrible. I don't like to write these kind of reviews but I've gotta be honest. I was referred here by a friend and after seeing the awesome reviews I was excited! After the exam I was told I needed a root canal and a few fillings. About a week later, I came in for my root canal, about half way into the procedure, he tells me the tooth "isn't worth saving" and suggest I get it pulled by a surgeon elsewhere. He then offers to fill some cavities since I was already numbed up. So I leave with some new fillings and my back molar half sawed off with zero packing what so ever. My face was HUGE. I couldn't talk and couldn't feel my face until twelve hours later. Even better, my tooth was left extremely sharp, thankfully I got in with the dental surgeon at another facility the next day since they considered me an "urgent case". The surgeon was amazing and got my tooth out painlessly and as quickly as I could expect. About a month later I was still having quite a bit of tooth pain where he had filled my cavities. I didn't feel comfortable going back there, so I found a new dentist right here on Yelp and let me tell you, she is AMAZING as is her whole staff. She redid all the fillings that this guy did and a few he missed. Plus, I have had ZERO pain whenever she works on me. But wait, it's not over yet, about six months after this whole ordeal, I get an extremely threatening letter in the mail from the highgrove dental office basically telling me that if I don't pay them 800$ asap, they're going to take me to court. I had assumed they sent everything through my insurance and I was squared up when I left, so this was actually quite shocking. I had never gotten a phone call or bill in the mail prior. I also didn't get the root canal I was quoted, got my tooth extracted and left with fillings that I had to pay out of my own pocket to fix elsewhere so you can guess that I wasn't happy. I called, paid the bill and have washed my hands of this place. If you have had wonderful experiences here, I am jealous because I will never return. read more
