I got the Fish & Chips, and it was horrible. If you dine at Metro, be sure to get something they're known for--NOT Fish & Chips. The fish was overcooked to the point of being chewy. The cole slaw had tough cabbage in it and also, it didn't have an appetizing flavor. The fries were regular sized strands, when Fish&Chips should have steak fries. I have heard good things about Metro Diner, so when my friend wanted to catch up this was the place. It wasn't crowded as I expected. So I was led to a table as soon as I hit the door. I was greeted excitedly by our waitress Nia. I looked the menu over several times the night before trying to decided what I wanted. I checked again this morning and chose a breakfast item and lunch item. I didn't want to assume they served breakfast all day (we met at 12pm) and both my friend and I wondered the same because it is not listed on their website. I guess everyone knows this but us because I didn't see the question asked on Yelp. I was able to order the Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit and the Cheesiest Grits. My friend ordered the Monte Cristo with a side of fries. The chicken tender and the mix of honey and spice was delicious. Nia told us that the chicken is marinated. They get two thumbs up for that. Oh and the biscuit was just right. I understand that they can't season the grits because others can't eat it that way but salt and butter came to the rescue. My friend had mixed reviews over her meal because she felt it was missing something. She didn't care for the raspberry preserve that is said to be made in house. So she used the strawberry jam that was on the table. She's had it before at other restaurants so she was excited to see it on the menu. However, I think next time she will try the fried chicken. It was her treat today (that's what great friends do) and she mentioned that this was probably the lowest food bill that we have ever had. So price wise our meals get an "A". We really enjoyed Nia being our waitress, she did a good job. I will have to return for the Chicken and Waffles. No pics as I didn't think about taking them until my plate was empty. read more

I had a craving for some fried chicken so I searched Yelp and this place came up. I've heard of it but never been although I wanted to. Based on the reviews I thought I'd give it a try. I didn't eat in I ordered delivery through doordash and whether dining in or delivery the food is still great! After seeing the pics and menu my craving for chicken turned into pot roast which is my favorite. The only thing is not roast wasn't an available option on Doordash so I got the chicken and waffles. And while this location in B'ham doesn't have the same character as the OG, the food and service is every bit on par! Every meal we've had here has been super tasty and cooked to perfection. I've had Metro Diner bookmarked for sometime in multiple locations. Initially, I debated waiting until the Huntsville location opens since that's where I'm from but we were hungry and nearby so I suggested we go ahead and try it out. The few bites of the waffle that I tasted was decent but I had to send the plate back because the chicken didn't taste fresh and had a displeasing taste. The manager David immediately came by the table with an apology and an effort to rectify the situation. The second plate arrived minutes later with piping hot, crispy fried chicken and a soft, warm and buttery waffle. The presentation certainly looked better than the first. In addition, the manager was nice enough to comp the meal for me. I ended up packing most of it to go since it was time to get back on the road. My dad ordered the Holy Davoili burger, certainly a burger for the champs. He shared a couple bites with me while I waited for my food to come back out and it was good. The beef lacked some seasoning though. He seemed to have enjoyed it. My mother ordered the Spinach Salad with Chicken. I ordered the Spicy Honey Chicken Sandwich and she ordered the Metro Club. If you check out the photos, you will see the portions were NOT short. The chicken was cooked perfectly but I would have loved more sauce on the sandwich. She killed the club and said it was amazing. The only complaint about my meal was the seasoned fries and were short on seasoning. Our little girl had the kids chicken and waffles. The strawberry butter had her devouring her meal. We finished the meal off with bread pudding and key lime pie. What a great ending to a solid meal. The place was clean and looked tidy. The tables and booths were thoroughly cleaned after every patron left. It was good to see an establishment actually clean between customers like that. This was our first trip here and it was pretty good. We got there early and avoided the crowd. It was amazing to see how nice they transformed an old Steak N Shake into a nice sit down place. Our waiter Mike, was very nice and explained the daily specials and took our orders. We had the breakfast platter that came with bacon or sausage, eggs, your choice of bread, pancakes and your choice of grits or hash browns. The platter was a big portion of food. Everything was great except the pancakes. I have been alot of places and seem to think that I know good pancakes. These had no taste and I couldn't even cut them with a fork. At other places that I have visited that have amazing pancakes, they have a crisp edge, flavor and are fluffy as well. They need to work on this item and they will be tops in breakfast. read more

As usual, it's pretty loud so if you want to read a book while you wait on your meal....... this isn't the place for you. The wait was not very long because we chose outside dining. It was 8 adults & 3 kids. The kids had the pancakes & ate from their parents plates! They seemed overjoyed. Of course the powdered sugar was licked from tiny fingers! I ordered the Charleston Shrimp & Grits with a side of Crab Cakes minus the bacon & andouille sausage. It was good. The grit patties could have used more seasoning, but that's why salt & pepper on the tables. Of course, I got the mimosa..... like 3 of them. My husband ordered the famous chicken & waffles with a side of sunny side up eggs & hashbrowns. He was overjoyed & over stuffed! He only left one piece of chicken & ate that after our nap! Stopped in here for a quick birthday lunch with my co-workers. I frequent Planet Fitness in this plaza and have been curious about Metro Diner ever since they began switching it over from the Steak and Shake. We arrived during the busier point of their lunch hour but didn't have to wait too long for a booth, maybe fifteen minutes. The place has your typical diner feel and fare. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive during our visit. She kept our glasses full and smiles on our faces. I had the patty melt which was very traditional on Rye with plenty of beef and onions. This was our first time to try Metri Diner and it did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and felt we had dinner and a show! Watching Derek command the kitchen is something to see! Amidst the hustle of getting everyone's order perfect br managed to converse with our party! In addition not one detail was overlooked by our server Mariah! The staff is very friendly, quick, and efficient. I ordered the Avocado Veggie Wrap and added grilled chicken to it and got the homemade chips, which the wrap was massive!
