We have been here many times as it has been our family go to but will never go again. We waited patiently way past the time we were told while several smaller parties were seated. Still ok although we heard staff making comments like "well they can just fight over it!" Still ok we asked if we could split and sit at two of the open tables and were told no bu because they were in different sections. We were told some people would leave soon and that's where they planned to seat us. Adter another wait one of our party did say to another in our party "I hope they leave soon cuz Im F... hungry. Not long afterwards we were seated and no one came until someone came and said "you gotta a problem!" we all said no and thought everything was fine but two other staff came out yelling and pointing and saying that we had "dog cussed them" we all said that we had said nothing like that to them. Had a pickup order placed at 9:45AM. at 10:15AM my food had been sitting in the window for 23 minutes while 7 waitresses ran around on their phones. this was a delivery service order, not mine. so, after waiting almost an HOUR inside, never being asked if i was waiting for food or anything, the customer canceled. basically, i wasted over an hour of my time waiting for an order and i did not even get paid. Came here last Saturday morning with a friend. I haven't been to a Metro Diner since our YELP event years ago. I really didn't know what to get since I'm not a breakfast person. The menu wasn't that big. My friend new exactly what she wanted. She went with the chicks and waffles but got chicken tenders instead of the half chicken. I decided to go with the fish and home fries. The place was a bit busy for a Saturday, but the service flowed well. Our food was out pretty fast. I tasted the fish and instantly was NOT a fan of the breading/seasoning. It had a kick. I can't describe it but it just wasn't good. I tasted my friends chicken tender and it had the same breading/seasoning the fish had . I looked at the menu again to see what I wanted. I inquired about the chicken noodle soup (I love a good soup) but the server said it wasn't that great. I decided to go with the club sandwich. It was ok..... nothing to brag about. If you're a breakfast person this place is definitely for you but other than that, I probably wouldn't go again. read more

I tried a piece as well and they were great! I ordered the 'Holy Davoli' burger which was a burger topped with shredded lettuce, chopped pickle and mayonnaise in between two grilled cheese sandwiches stuffed with American cheese, tomato, and hickory smoked bacon. This was super different than anything I ever had before. I do think the server was in a rush because like I said he was quick but he also gave the check as soon as we got our meal so I wish he had waited. What if we wanted dessert or some drink? Since living on 280, I have frequently visited this metro diner. It's one of my favorite places to get breakfast, and I love to bring friends and family to it. Metro Diner has a warm and inviting environment that always makes me want to return for more. I typically switch up what I get, but I got their strawberry shortcake waffle this time. It was delicious and super fresh. The seasonal pancakes and waffles are always the best in my opinion. The restaurant itself was super clean, and the staff was very friendly. The place I chose to eat at was "Metro Dinner" which is like 5 minutes from where I leave. It's located on 180 Inverness Plaza, Birmingham, Al, 35242. This is a place I have eaten at before and would come here at least twice a month when I can. There are several different dishes you could try whether you're in the mood for breakfast or a simple lunch. I prefer the traditional chicken and waffles plate. I also had their strawberry shortcake pancakes, 'which is really good by the way, and have had their fried chicken sandwich meal. So it's a lot you can choose from and actually recommend coming here. It's like a Waffle House but bigger and their services are pretty good. As for any Covid 19 concerns I personally feel they are well cleaned and sanitary, there like any other dinner or restaurant you may have gone to. read more

I ended up getting the Holy Davoli Burger which is pretty much a double grilled cheese sandwiched with two double patties in the center. I also got fresh cut fries and my mom order the Pot Roast which I thought were ok, but nothing to order for myself. My burger and the fries came out hot and since I didn't want to eat the whole sandwich, I just cut it in half to have later that day. I feel like I got a little jipped from the hype surrounding Metro Diner. I'd been wanting to try it for a while and finally got a chance today. Decor was cute and had an old school retro feel to it. This location was previously home to a Steak and Shake but they've remodeled it to suit their taste. We came in for breakfast at 8:30AMish on Saturday morning and it was surprisingly busy. But we were seated immediately and had our orders taken quickly. I decided to get their breakfast special, the spicy chicken benedict. My friend got the biscuits and sausage gravy. Our food took a little bit to come out, but it looked great when we got it. Huge portions (esp my friend's order) and I was super excited to try it. The first few bites were great and then a cloying, underlying sweetness started spreading over my tongue. At first I thought it was just the hash browns, but then I noticed the chicken also had a sweet under tone. The only non-sweet component of my dish was the gravy, which was very tasty. As someone sensitive to sugar, the sweetness in every bite made the rest of the meal a little off putting. I was hoping for a spicy, savory breakfast but it ended up being too sweet for my personal taste. I would've finished my food if it hadn't been so sweet! My friend enjoyed her meal; she said the biscuits and gravy were great so I won't completely write Metro Diner off. I've used metro to cater large breakfast meetings before and they were on time and the food was excellent. This was my first time my wife and I dined in for breakfast . She ordered avocado toast and two eggs over medium. Out of sheer protest for her order of a healthy breakfast, I will not include a picture of it but will suffice to say it looked heathy . My breakfast was really tasty. I wanted to try one of the many Benedicts the diner offers or the sausage gravy and biscuits but I decided to try the chicken biscuit, cheese grits, and two eggs over medium. I'm the South one judges a breakfast place by the quality of its biscuits. Metro diner holds its own with any I've had around town. Hot, with crisp edge to it, and flaky the biscuit held up the spicy sweet chicken breast. I would order again. The eggs were slightly undercooked for both my wife's and my liking but not enough to send back. Finally, the unexpected star of the meal was the cheese grits. My wife and I think they were some of the best we've tasted . Service was fantastic and attentive without being overly intrusive.
