This is a great spo t for a quick meal. It is good for singles, couples & families. The food here is very good. It's not like typical diner food. It's more like restaurant quality & I believe they have a chef working there, rather than short order cook. I feel the prices are a bit on the high side for a diner, but then the food is much better & I don't mind paying a little more once in a while. My husband & I used to go regularly because we loved their Reubens & it's difficult to find a place that actually grills their Reubens, rather than putting them on toast. The last couple of times we went, they no longer had Reubens on the menu, which was a big disappointment. We used to go there specifically for their Reubens because they were so good. That said, their food is tasty & cooked to order. They've always been flexible with letting us change out items on full meals, like exchanging the fries for vegetables. I'd recommend Metro Diner to anyone wanting to get a quick bite to eat, or to linger longer for a slower paced meal. They offer a nice variety of choices. They also offer beer & wine. I believe I've seen occasional special mixed drinks, like Margaritas, but am not positive because I've never ordered one & it's been a while. First time eating here and we enjoyed it on a busy Sinday. We were seated within 15 minutes and greeted quickly - staff was friendly and enthusiastic. Hard to choose from the menu as it all sounds good, but I will say the san fran benedict was very good and I enjoyed my veggie omelette. Serving portions are very generous! Here now so far so good. Very polite staff at every level. Attentive keeping our drinks filled. The food was soooo good. I had the fish fries and cole slaw and my friend had the fried chicken mash potatoes and coke slaw. They make their slaw with mustardand it worked! I need to give Metro Diner a five star review. Just stopped in for a Christmas Eve day brunch with family. It's great to go in and be texted when you are next to be seated. The is greatly appreciated especially with Covid protocols in place and so many people traveling. We were greeted pleasantly and seated immediately. Our waiter was efficient, professional and friendly. Our drinks were served immediately and we were surprised at how quickly our food arrived. A combination of bacon and cheese omelet, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, eggs, waffles and fruit. What a nice mid noon meal. The plating and taste of all the food was as perfect as could be. The biscuits actually tasted homemade and freshly out of the oven. The atmosphere with all the diners was filled with friendly banter and so many smiles towards strangers brought thoughts of holiday spirit. Yelp defines 3-Stars as ok or, in my words, met the standard. That grade is perfect for this diner when comparing it to other diners in the area. It's not the greatest I've ever eaten at but it's not disgusting either, it's just ok. I am a self-proclaimed diner connoisseur. I love everything diners! I love their food, unique atmospheres, venues, wait staff, and greasy spoon appeal. I believe that for a diner to be worthy of that title it has to have its own individualized flair, an intrinsic je ne sais quoi if you will. Therefore, I'm really not a strict critic of diners, except for their food. Below is a breakdown of everything else but their food and then their food. Everything else: They seem to have a "To-go" option, which appeared to be very popular at the time we went. The wait staff is friendly and warm; they welcome you like you are an old friend returning to the fold. Additionally, they carry an iPad instead of the traditional pen and server note pad. This method is extremely convenient for the customer and server. As soon as you order, they punch the request into the iPad and the kitchen immediately receives the order without the wait staff ever having to leave the floor. Honestly, it took about 10-15 minutes for our food to appear on our table. The restaurant itself is small but not tiny. The bathrooms are clean and maintained. The overall establishment is also clean and the tables are regularly cleaned but there are no COVID standards (mask/distancing) if you care about that. The food: I'm not sure if we came on an off day but we were not privy to a wide selection of food as other reviewers say they were. The menu we received was very small and limited for a diner. Like most diners, they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. My wife and I ordered two omelets, a veggie and western, one with home fries and the other with a fruit cup. Both omelets came with toast. Being that both omelets were served American style, they were stuffed with ingredients. Personally, my meal was good; however, the onions were undercooked, the toast was burnt (but not too much), and the home fries were a little overcooked (still good though). The fruit cup tasted sweet and fresh. The meal was honestly not bad and the price you can't beat, $29 for everything. Overall, this is not a bad little diner. One can be extremely picky about the food, which I kind of was, but still walk away knowing that they had a good meal. I would not drive the 30 minutes to come here again but if I'm in the area and need a diner fix, this is where I'll be. Enjoy. read more

I love an old fashioned diner, I love it even more so when that diner lets me order mimosas early on a saturday. I got a couple different plates while there and everything I would order again Chicken and Waffles: delicious steak breakfast bowl: delicious Yes I order double entrees (I have a plate sharing partner we always go halfsies) the chicken, which was a whole half a chicken was seasoned so well and the hollandaise sauce on the steak breakfast bowl set everything off. I was contacted by a manager whom apologized after hearing me out about the situation. He genuinely cared and wanted to make it right. He went above and beyond making sure our food was replaced. We went there today and decided to dine in. I must say it was a huge difference than what we experienced and few days ago. Sadly the location in Vegas closed and we happened upon this one while visiting Virginia. Charleston Shrimp & Grits we're one of my faves and their cheesiest grits live up to their name. So good! A nice spot to check out. When you walk in you get a sense of home for those you that love diners. It does get packed but on most days you will be seated immediately. The host and waiters are friendly. If you're a meat lover go for the Meat lovers omelet. Its hudge and you will get you money's worth. You can not come hear and not get the chicken and waffles w/ the strawberry butter. Words don't do it justice, you've got to try it to understand the wow. Hats off and money well spent. read more

I'm not normally the one to give a bad review but I just had a terrible experience here. I called ahead of time to place a pick up order and was put on hold so the pickup specialist could assist me; I was on hold for nearly 25 minutes so I drove to the restaurant and was still on hold when i got there. I guess whoever picked up the phone forgot about me i don't really know. I placed my order in restaurant and was told to wait up front. I sat there for over 30 minutes. I was sitting there for so long that the hostess asked me if i was waiting for a order under someone else's name(Nice Lady by the way thank you for your help), and when i gave her my name she came back and told me that she doesn't even see it. So finally i believe the manager comes and he apologies and told me they forgot about me again. When i finally got my food i went to eat it in my car the fries weren't warm at all pretty soggy and the burger was cold. The reviews are good for this place, so maybe i just got unlucky. I just didn't really feel valued as a first time customer; over a hour of waiting on the phone in restaurant and on the phone just to get cold food wasn't really the best experience. read more

This is my go to spot for breakfast. My top two go to items are the chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits. The sticky sauce for the chicken is really good. You can get half order of certain items. It's not advertised so ask. It's usually a little wait to be seated, but it's worth it. You can give your number and be texted once table is ready. The waitstaff is all excellent. We always great food here when we are in Virginia. Our last visit was disappointing. I was told to order the salmon but I ordered the shrimp grits which is amazing. Unfortunately they changed the recipe. The shrimp n grits was more like shrimp chowder. Very soupy and little grits. I ordered a side of grits to serve my desire. I regret not ordering the salmon. No more shrimp n grits here for me. That sucks. The old recipe included a grit cake surrounded with shrimp gravy. This made them unique unlike other restaurants. Now they are below other restaurants. They dropped the ball on this one. When I got home I looked online for the pic and my meal looked nothing like it. The cook forgot the grits. It was bowl of shrimp gravy. Disappointing. read more

Not a bad place for breakfast. I've patronized this establishment 4 times more and it's not bad. Though I've only been for breakfast they have a decent menu with and everything I've ordered was good. Not sure why this isn't a go to place but should be. Better than IHOP or Denny's (which is not hard to beat). Plain decor, clean bathrooms, consistently good service, and consistently good food. This visit I had Belgian Waffles (2nd time) and scramble eggs and avocado toast. Waffle was light and fluffy very good. I skipped the powder sugar. I ordered scrambled egg whites and got reg scrambled eggs which were good just not what I ordered and didn't feel like sending it back. Avocado toast was ok. I didn't like the tomato on it and guac was too thick for my liking. I actually scraped off some and spread it on done oh my wife's toast. Wife had a veggie egg white omelet. Came out as ordered. Stopped in for breakfast while in the area. There was no wait at 9am on a Monday. I was seated and my drink order was taken. I ordered the Southwestern Scramble Bowl and it was delicious. The hash browns were cooked perfectly and had a great crunch on the outside. My only complaint about the dish was that the avocado was a bit overripe and brown. The service was lackluster. My server never came back to refill my drink and seemed to completely disappear when I was ready for my check. Very inattentive service. Overall, I would recommend the food here but the service could use some work. read more

As far as diner food goes this is the best of the best! The most wonderful part of diner food is giant portions and great prices. Metro is serving up both. On the way down to Richmond for a mini bachelorette this was our first stop before non-stop wine drinking for 48 hours. Our server was wonderful although a closer talker (thank God for masks)! She was attentive and timed everything just right. We ordered $3 (maybe $4) mimosas and big plates of breakfast favorites. My usual plate sharing partner and I got the chicken and waffles and steak bowl. First of all you get half a chicken! Battered and fried to perfection. The waffle was topped with strawberry butter. It was amazing *swoons* The steak bowl included hashbrowns, eggs, tomatoes, and hollandaise. You could put hollandaise on anything and I'd eat it so needless to say it was also scrumptious. We were introduced to Metro Diner through some coworkers during our last trip out here... and it was love at first bite. I'm not kidding. I ordered the kid's size Fried Chicken & Waffles, and it came with... (brace yourself)... STRAWBERRY BUTTER. Yeah, I said it; Strawberry Butter. And it is as delicious as it sounds. So since that glorious day, I knew that Metro Diner would be a place that we would frequently visit. (I love finding new delicious spots!) The staff is all amazing, the food is scrumptious, and that strawberry butter... oh lordt... it's good. Don't let the strawberry butter steal the show completely! Wow...such a gem. We stopped as we were headed home to Vienna and I'm so glad we did. I'm not a huge breakfast person, so I really appreciated that I could order lunch at 9:30am on a Sunday. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and the chicken pot pie. Both were flavorful. The star of the show was the fried chicken and waffles my husband ordered. My wife and I were leaving town for Labor Day weekend, and we decided to stop at Metro Diner for breakfast. We're new to Fredericksburg and are trying out all of the restairants and breweries in town. They had a pretty good crowd for Saturday morning but we quickly were shown to a table. We started with coffee. My wife had a stack of blueberry griddle cakes, with two fried eggs and hash browns. She requested the hash browns be well done. I had scrambled eggs with home fries and grits. My wife loved her pancakes. Her hash browns were well done as she asked. Sunny side up fried eggs done perfectly. My eggs were nicely scrambled and not overdone. There was also a generous portion. Home fries were a bit salty, but the grits were nicely creamy. Our server was very friendly. If there was one small knock with the service, I know it was busy but we did have to ask for our coffee, and for syrup for my wife's pancakes. It seemed like a nice old style diner. I've been back to the Metro Diner at least four times since my last review and I stick by my belief that they could EASILY hold their own in Jersey. Almost every time we visit my daughter we come here for breakfast. The food in their main menu is all great and their specials always sound amazing (I always eat off the main menu however). When we were here the other day my daughter had a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes, eggs and toast (oh to have her metabolism), Wifey had avocado toast with eggs sunny side up, and I had the three egg breakfast with biscuits instead of toast (I made two biscuit sandwiches) and a side of grits. Yeah, we ate it all and didn't feel guilty! Wifey and I were heading back home after the meal so it easily held us over for the long drive. Great job as always Metro Diner!! read more

Best diner I have been to in a VERY LONG TIME! We were road tripping and luckily found Metro Diner via the Waze app. So glad we did!! I got the chicken and waffles and omgggg it was SO GOOD!! The chicken had crispy crunchy skin and was cooked perfectly and the waffle was delicious. The chicken reminded me of Popeye's chicken-yum! I get chicken and waffles a lot haha and this was def top 3 I've ever had! Next time I drive down to VB from Maryland I will be stopping at Metro Diner for another round of chicky waffles for sure. After a day of holiday shopping in Fredericksburg we decided to get something to eat. Metro Diner was on the way home. We got in and we were greeted by Crystal, she led us to our table and gave us menus. After a minute or so she came and got our drink orders. So far everything was going well. We ordered our food and wanted to get onion rings as an app. After a bit we got our dinner orders. I asked for mayo with my meal, it did not arrive with my plate. We mentioned to the gentleman that brought our food that we haven't gotten the onion rings and needed mayo. We heard him say something to the cooks in the kitchen...and still nothing. Finally the mayo came. Crystal came by to check on us and placed the bill on our table. We told her we never got the o'rings. She then went to the kitchen and told them (mind you this is the 3 time they have been told, once when the order was put in, again when the other server brought our food and then the 3rd time when Crystal said something) It was evident that the kitchen staff was either overwhelmed or simply didn't care. This lack of attention and courtesy from the cooks was incredibly disappointing. A simple acknowledgment of the oversight or a genuine apology would have made a world of difference. Instead, we left feeling neglected and frustrated. Metro Diner needs to step up its game--because this experience was far from acceptable. read more
