What can I say about this place? First! Make a reservation lol other than that the food was most definitely worth the wait! Had the fried chicken Benedict and an apple pie mimosa while I waited. The chicken tastes like somebody's grandma made it, the eggs were perfect, and the biscuits they were on were awesome! The cheese grits were perfect...I was so pleased that I'm definitely going back for the shrimp and grits as well as other things I want to try on the menu! Also had a Bloody Mary with my meal...it wasn't my absolute favorite but the price was great! I most definitely left full, happy, and with absolutely no regrets. read more

We went as daughter wanted to see Santa. We're there when they opened and Manager had decided to open even though their heat wasn't working. Initially, everyone was still wearing their winter coats as it was about 24 degrees outside and maybe 40 degrees inside. We were pretty chilly throughout the whole time. Ordered an omelette and it was much smaller than what we usually get at IHOP. I loved my experience from the moment I walked in! I have more been twice, and can tell you, you should request GiGi! She's completely over the top and wonderful! When I walked in it smelled like the best bakery in town! I ordered a coffee which came regular or baked with chocolate almond. It was fantastic! Metro Diner is our new favorite place for any meal of the day! They serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner all day which is definitely a plus. Our server Gigi was hilarious and made our morning fantastic...definitely request her when you go. As soon as you walk in and sit down, you get the sense that the staff really cares about the customers. It has such a cute diner feel to it too The toasted cinnamon nut coffee special is smooth and just the right amount of sweet flavor. Every meal was so good! The Fried chicken tenders were flavorful and juicy and loved the fries. My son loved the metro bowl which was adjusted for his food allergies. I appreciated the staff was mindful of his allergies. The staff was friendly. Our food came quick. We definitely will be coming back. read more

THE BLACK AND WHITE: I didn't realize this diner was a chain, but it is off the chain! Came here after supporting the bae in her first half marathon (which she crushed) and she was craving diner food. Once I saw avocado toast on the menu, it was done. I had to get it. There were some other eye catchers like the reuben, hot chicken & waffles, and who can forget the Holy Davoli: a burger stuffed in between 2 grilled cheese. Portions are big...very big, which I enjoyed very much. On the avocado toast, it was two whole grain toast halved and the below the avocado was a slice of tomato. YUM. Service was a bit slow, but there was alot of people there. The wait took about 40 minutes for a party of 4. THE FINAL BAMBOO: The price for the Avocado toast was $6.99 (not including tip/tax) and additional 2 eggs for $1.99. Not bad for a gigantic portion and a happy belly. read more

Great service--attentive and fast. We had the nicest servers who were compassionate about our tantrumming child, including bringing him a plateful of pickles because that was all he wanted to eat. Our meal was tasty and fresh. I had the San Francisco Benedict, for which the eggs were perfectly poached. The avocado was a bit underripe, and the tomato was not ripe at all, but the hash browns were cooked perfectly. My husband had the French dip and proclaimed it "good." He would have liked the bread to be toasted more. Fries were perfectly cooked. Drinks were continually refreshed. The food was hot and freshly made and made it to the table immediately. No wait at 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 2, 2022. Debra was quick and on point. Her food recommendations were spot on. Food arrived quickly and hot. The chicken and waffle brunch was tasty and you will probably only need the half plate. The egg platter breakfast was cooked exactly to my order! I tried the apple cobbler to go. It will satisfy your sweet tooth but it's a crumble topping, lightly on top. The ice cream that came with it was apparently pre scooped as it seemed old. It will probably be better to try immediately on top. I prefer the crust type but this doesn't change my review. Also, it was a nice sized portion. A great day at the Metro Diner!! read more

My husband and I have been eating at Metro Diner since moving to Fredericksburg almost 4 years ago. Sunday mornings prior to Covid would find us sitting at the counter, eating breakfast and watching the cooks ballet as they prepared the orders. Our food and service has always been excellent! Unfortunately that has not been the case our last 2 visits. Simple requests when our breakfast order is placed for toast that is toasted golden brown was confirmed and yet the server brought out warm bread with no toast color. I returned it and asked they simply run it thru again and 10 min. later I received solid black charred cold toast. When I said it was unacceptable, I got an eye roll. Appropriately toasted toast arrived after the rest of my breakfast was finished. My turkey sausage was super dry and over cooked as well. The interior is dark and looks warn and my seat in a booth had a huge tear which hard been there quite a while. Sadly, this is the second time dining with similar dry over cooked sausage, inconsistent eggs and toast all staples when you offer breakfast. I did tell the server we wanted to speak to the manager but he/she never came. The server said, "He was really busy." Sadly we won't be back. Please Metro Grill do some retraining, brighten your appearance and give us a reason to return. We have loved eating with you. read more

For my money this is the best Chicken n waffles you will find in Fredericksburg or anywhere within driving distance. Juicy tender chicken with a nice crunchy and yet flaky crust. The waffles are light and crisp and meltingly tender on the inside. Served with a compound strawberry butter that kicks it up that extra notch. Drizzle with maple syrup and you've got heaven on a plate! Don't even look at the calories (it's on the menu). Just enjoy! Bonus: unless you've got a huge appetite there will be leftovers to take home. If you reheat them in the oven (not the microwave!) they will crisp back up and be nearly as good as the first time. The bad news: EVERYONE knows how good this place is, so lines are long. Call ahead is available to save your spot in line! Plan ahead and call at least 1/2 hour before your desired dining time. I did and was able to walk right in and be seated immediately! Yes, there were some glares from people waiting in line lol! Also, I was told by staff that this service will soon be available online at their website too. Service is lightning fast and very friendly. The waiters work hard here turning over the tables as quickly as possible, so if you linger, for goodness sake leave them a really nice tip! I will not choose or trust my familys dining experience with Metro again. The food looked as if it had been re-warmed re used from the day prior ( French fries); two of the entrees were NOT what I ordered. We were home when we realized this and had to make a 2nd trip back to the restaurant to get the correct order The "grits" were not traditional grits, a in shrimp.n grits. Looked to be some type of breaded patty. The experience overall was not satisfying due to the food quality ( lack of) as well as the service. So, this is how my Sunday started. Up early enough so the sun didn't shine into my eyes as I drove east. One of only five tables at Metro Diner (ahh, peace and quiet to read my book and start my breakfast). Halfway through breakfast (fluffy scrambled egg, crispy-on-the-outside link sausage, and a side of fresh fruit instead of potatoes--scrumptious) one of the servers put a rose on my table! When it was time to pay the check I learned another--anonymous--diner had already done so! As i was leaving the now very busy diner, one of the managers gave me a coupon for $10 off a $25 purchase! LOVED IT! Run to this place! I'm so thankful that we stopped here on our way to another destination. We were just looking for a regular eatery and then this awesome diner came up and we thought why not? It is right off of the highway so why not give it a try? Best decision! The staff were so lovely! Our waiter was nice and even the manager came over and told us the history of the place. It was featured on a food Network show wish allowed the business to expand to more locations. I'm in love with their Charleston shrimp and grits. Admittedly these are not the Charleston shrimp and grits I'm used to from living in that area (their version is a cream based sauce and I'm used to a tomato base) but it had the anduoille sausage, green peppers and bacon that is classic to the dish. Also those grit cakes put a fun spin on the stereotypical bland/plainness of regular grits. Yet the best part, was the cream sauce and they cook the shrimp to perfection! I hate over cooked shrimp. I also had their fried Chicken and waffles as well. I would give it the southern seal of approval. Their strawberry butter on the waffle is also supper unique and delicious. Our server even provided us with a hot sauce and syrup combo to dip our waffles and chicken into. This is a great brunch meal. This place was so good and filling on our way back from our trip we stopped by again and had the exact same meal! Embarrassingly some of the staff recognized us from a few days earlier but they were super nice and glad we enjoyed our food. 30 to 40 minutes wait, according to people they have no staff. They have reduced the menu nothing like it use to be.

Pretty upset I even have to write a bad review about them as the food is good, but the last two times I went there I had things missing from my order. I called in Monday to let them know I was missing entire meal and was told I would receive a refund. 6 days later still no refund, so I went there today to get breakfast to go again and once again was missing a meal. Mind you the place was packed today but Monday they weren't that busy. I let the person serving my order what happened Monday and thought they would be more careful. I'm partly to blame for not checking my bag, but I didn't think they would screw up my order twice back to back. Unfortunately I will not be returning as there is Tito's Diner and 4 Seasons Diner nearby, they've never messed my orders up let alone multiple times. It was packed for a Sunday morning so we opted to sit at the bar and it was the best decision. Watching the cooks call orders, make the food and plate it with such speed was an unintentional show! This place has amazing staff and their energy makes for a wonderful meal. Oh yeah and the food was hella good! I thought we were just going to get some basic, greasy diner food but the shrimp and grits rocked my world and my waistline. Had metro diner deliver the other day for breakfast. I was so satisfied and happy , because this is the second time I had chicken and waffles. But this is the first time that I was actually happy to eat. The first one was from Japan and I wasn't happy at all . The chicken was crispy and , dare I say it?, moist. It was so juicy. The thigh part is my favorite part of the chicken, and they definitely deliver !!. The waffle was fluffy. The fruits I chose were bananas and strawberries. It was sweet, tart, and salty. I would love to tell you about the food at this restaurant, but unfortunately, I was never given the opportunity to try. My dad, brother and I stopped here for a late lunch on a slow Saturday afternoon. We were seated relatively quickly and given some menus. We had been at our table for about 10 minutes, and noticed that a family that arrived after us had not only been seated, but already had their drinks. Nobody had even bothered to come get our drink order. Mind you, we were watching the various staff cleaning tables and busing dirty dishes away - but at no point did anyone even acknowledge our existence. Finally, the waitress who was working our section appeared, but went to the table next to us to check on them for refills. This was around the 15 minute mark from when we arrived, and that was the final straw. We left. It was a slow Saturday afternoon, and there were plenty of staff on duty. People seated after us were already being waited on, and the waitress for our section decided it made more sense to check on refills at another table rather than come welcome us and take our drink orders in the process. This is terrible service, and I do not recommend you come here. read more
