Food was good but serving wise i wasn't that pleased for what we paid for i know they could do better

We ordered the Thanksgiving Feast for 4 and it exceeded our expectations. More than ample portions and fairly priced. The turkey was very tasty and all the side dishes were as good as homemade. Mashed potatoes were better than home cooked. read more

Where do I start? Today was my first time dining at Metro Diner. Upon arrival the glorious scent of well seasoned food met us at the door. The hostess told us that there was about a 30 minute wait for two people. We didn't mind because we arrived at noon. Our information was taken and off to our vehicle we went. The wait ended up only being 15 mins as other people were leaving. Once seated we were greeted by "Maddy" or SUPER sweet and very knowledgeable server. We ordered Pineapple juice and Orange juice. For lunch we ordered The Chicken & Waffles (comes with half a Chicken) I wanted all white meat so I got two BIG Chicken Titties.The breast were very well seasoned and the crust OMG was so delicious and crunchy and perfect (Like me). We also ordered the Charleston Shrimp & Grits. We asked if they could fry the shrimp as it would be better for us. The restaurant was able to accommodate our request and we are so happy that they did. The way they seasoned that shrimp made us blush. We also ordered the Bissell Breakfast and that was VERY tasty as well. The owner Daniel the owner came out to greet us and he was such a delight. I loved that he took time to speak with every table with a smile. He also made sure to explain the specials of the weekand to thank us for coming in. Daniel made sure that he told us about the Mimosa Flights (We ordered one) and we also enjoyed a Orange Crush. Both drinks were very refreshing and tasty. Overall I WILL return and become a regular based off of the "Chicken Titties" the service we received from Maddy and the way that Daniel made us feel. read more

Serving sizes are " American" , the menu selections span from traditional to a little nouveau ( avocado toast), and they are more than willing to accommodate special requests to tweak their offerings. We eaten a few times at this Metro Diner and we had mediocre experiences at best, but the last time (and I mean last) was the worst. Lackluster service, bland food and waitresses who eat food off your plate is my experience at Metro Diner. The waitstaff hung around the pass waiting for food and maintained a 1000 yard stare to avoid acknowledging you. When we asked a lone waiter for help, he rolled his eyes. My wife watched as waitresses picked food off plates in the pass and ate it. Bet you didn't know someone was eating your food before you got the chance? YUCK! Once the food, or what was left of it arrived, it was bland and tasteless. When we complained, the manager agreed, but we never saw her once talk or go anywhere near the cooks. The food was delicious. Our server, Bruce, on the other hand was a disaster. We were there for breakfast. He took our drink order and after 10 minutes, another server checked on us and she got the drinks. After another 10 minutes, he took our meal order. Finally, he brought our meal....... kinda. Simple things like butter, ketchup, syrup etc...... required another wait and a trip for each item. Zero organization on his part. The toast....... well, we got that just as we were done and asking for the check. The 0.15 cent tip is a reflection of the service. The food was 4.5 stars! Our server........ 0.5 stars. There was quite a long wait but it was worth every bite. The chicken and waffles were incredible. The chicken was so crispy and incredibly juicy. The waffle, a perfect vessel as a transport system for the syrup to my tastebuds. read more

Let me start by saying I normally love the food but tonight I was served green beens that still had the stems and some stalks on them. I spoke to the waitress and she asked me to talk to the manager. He said he could not control how the beans look because of different produce vendors used. I said have one of you employees to clean them. He said he was too busy for that. Then he said some beans might have been missed. None of them were cleaned. His last statement was that he had gotten serveral complains about the beans not being cleaned. I do not know how a manager expects someone to eat stems and stalks. Waitress apologized several times but it was not her fault. Manager needs to learn the proper way to serve foid so it can be ate. read more

In the description it says I'll walk in and feel like a regular. Today I felt like some carrion blown in from side of the road. We were seated right by the restroom when there were a plethora of open seats in the front. Like who wants to eat their food my the bathroom?! I ordered ole faithful, the chicken and waffles. Normally they make ya tongue wanna slap ya brain out because they are so good, today's batch was a FLOP. Like they literary were a flop, I picked up he waffle and it was limp, soggy and cold. The chicken was like warm with skin equally as soggy as the waffle. I don't know if there's a full moon or a powerful hex placed over the Metro but I don't think I'll be returning for quite some time. read more

This is a solid spot. Doesn't look like much from the outside... but don't be fooled. The food here is great and the atmosphere is very relaxed/family friendly. I would recommend basically anything on the breakfast menu. read more

I like metro but the portions are way to large for me. Know it sounds crazy but I don't go because can't eat that much food. Think it would be nice to offer a half as much. Went back to the Metro diner today for the third time first time was horrible second time was great sir time was the worst and I'll never go back again my husband ordered a Montecristo I ordered big Mike BLT sat there watching my husbands food under the heat lamp for at least 10 minutes and then finally they came to me to tell me that they had ran out of bacon and they went to the store to buy more and it would be at least another 10 minutes before I got my food why didn't they tell me that when I ordered the BLT I just don't understand no communication at all and on top of that the restroom/restaurant was filthy so We walked out having nothing to eat and having to go somewhere else read more

All is I can say is there aren't enough stars for me to give this Harbour View location. The food was fresh , hot, and delicious. The team working on this Sunday morning was nothing less than great. My husband and I were super impressed. I'm so happy to have this new spot to make our routine Sunday breakfast spot. This diner stays busy, and there's a real reason for that: GREAT food at a GREAT price, served fast. Servers are constantly on the go to take care of every customer and still handle the constant stream of To-Go/delivery orders. Food is always perfect every time, my favorites are the Mushroom/Swiss burger and the Bissel Breakfast. You leave full, for sure! On this visit we arrived on a Sunday morning when the place was busy. This was our second time at this location and neither visit has been smooth. This time, from the moment we walked in the front door until we received our food service took just under 60 minutes. WOW! After this, one would expect awesome food....not. Please see the pictures. My order of chicken and waffles was just a mess. The waitress apologized, and had part of my meal redone. It was, however, the kitchen's fault, not hers. It was so bad that the manager was informed. To be clear, we did not make a scene, the appearance of the food was just that bad. Upon her visit, the manager offered to comp our entire meal. We really appreciate her taking that action. I have struggled with this rating. On the one hand, the manager made it right, and the waitress was great. On the other hand, we do not go out to eat to struggle and be rewarded with free food. A hidden jewel in Suffolk. I have to say this was the best breakfast I have had in a while. I had the Western Omelet with hashbrowns and biscuit. The biscuit reminded me of the delicious biscuits that my grandmother use to make when I was a kid. It was flaky and cooked to perfection. The omelet was light and fluffy. I hate burnt eggs. This omelet was thoroughly done without any burnt spots. The hashbrowns were cooked well without being mushy. My server was very nice and showed the right amount of attentiveness. Bravo! Ridiculous that a restaurant in today's age does nothing to protect patrons, or even warn them regarding fish/seafood allergies. There is ONLY one menu item with Shrimp. Yet the shrimp is fried in the same oil as everything else. I've been trained to ask as more and more I'm finding restaurants in the Tidewater area are decades behind the times. There is nothing on the menu to say items are all fried in the same oil. Servers also don't know this. Fish/seafood allergies are not a new thing and are not uncommon. Killing time and hubby and I wanted something good. We pulled up to Metro Diner which ample parking and good lighting. We were greeted immediately with a smile and seated right away. On the way to our seats we saw a few orders up in the window and they were definitely drool worthy! Once seated, Sarah (I think) gave us time to get our order together. We looked up the meals we saw in the window and it was the chicken tenders meal, the Mac n cheese with pulled pork, and a burger melt. It looked really good but we ended up with the chicken and waffles with strawberry butter, chicken tenders instead of chicken pieces, and the Philly cheesesteak with onion rings. Met a friend for brunch and both of us were wanting to try this place. We sat outside and there was no wait for seating. Ordered Bloody Mary and it was made with sake such a nice twist! I ordered the crab cake benedict with hash browns with cheese and jalapeños on it. My friend ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich with fries and onion rings. This Monte Cristo sandwich is large and in charge! Has good flavor but warning might not be able to finish the whole sandwich. Sad that the fries weren't as crispy but the onion rings made up for it. My crab cake Benedict was scrumptious with the poached egg on top and hollandaise sauce until ..... Unfortunately there was a big egg shell that was found on my plate and not in the food so it didn't ruin my meal. Manager comped me my meal due to seeing the big egg shell pieces on my table. Loved the breakfast! Such a huge selection available. They also serve anything on the menu all day! 10 percent discount to active military. The waitress we had was in training and she did a great job. Little disappointed when another waiter (zak), came to our table and interrupted her as she was trying to deliver our food. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. It wasn't too busy on a Thursday night. I had the chicken avocado veggie wrap. The portion was huge but the chicken was very salty. I ordered broccoli and it was smothered in butter. My coworker got the meat lovers omelet with hash browns and a English muffin. He also stated his food was quite salty, large portions, and just meh taste. If you are looking for a bit healthy and light fair this wouldn't be a place to look. Most things on the menu averaged between 900-2100 calories. Likely will not come back because of the salty food and the just so so taste. read more
