Food was good! Aisha took care of us and she was great. She was attentive and made sure that our food was hot and experience good! Her service is great! She also has a great sense of humor! The ambiance is just meh. It's not the fault of the employees but the owners. It's time for a make over and now! A little paint, glue, and a deep clean would be great. Went here recently for breakfast and the labor shortage is hitting this place pretty hard. We've always enjoyed this place as a solid staple of a 'good' breakfast. This last visit was ROUGH. It wasn't super busy and when we were sat down, we weren't 'initially' told about how slow the kitchen would be. After we sat down, we realized there would be an issue when it took 15 minutes just to have someone address us. The waitress was frazzled due to the frustration of the kitchen as it showed by her demeanor. Once we placed our order, she mentioned that the kitchen was a backed up and orders were a bit slow. I wish she emphasized HOW slow the kitchen was. Everything was off... just off... the food was lukewarm and just didn't have the pop that this place usually gives. I'm on the edge of making this a 1 star review but am giving it the benefit of the doubt that it could've just been a very bad day for the place. First time visiting one of these establishments and it was a little off putting. The waitresses while nice and helpful, kinda argued about seating customers because they were short staffed. The booths could use a good upgrade and upholstering (a lot of tape and torn seats). My main reason for even writing a review was for the very skimp, overpriced piece of pie I received. For almost $7 (after taxes), the slice of pie I got was so small. It actually pissed me off because of how small it was . Huge shoutout to the amazing lady working at Village Inn this morning (06/06/2025)! She was the only server on the floor, completely swamped, but still managed to keep things running with a calm, personable, and super relatable energy. That kind of attitude is rare and very appreciated, especially in an understaffed situation like that. I ordered a mimosa flight--it came out perfect! While waiting for our food, my husband and I even commented on how clean the restaurant was, which was a really nice surprise. When the food came out, she actually refused to serve my husband the grits--which I totally respected. Once she showed us, we saw why... they looked like leftovers from yesterday: thick, lumpy, and just not it. Then I noticed my entire order was wrong--eggs were overcooked (I asked for soft scrambled), and the crepes were not only the wrong ones, but they weren't even crepes--just rolled pancakes Honestly, this kind of thing happens to me often, so I wasn't too phased. I politely sent the order back but told her not to worry about remaking it--knowing how much she already had on her plate. But here's the part that truly stood out: as we were paying the tab, she came from the back with my corrected order, made perfectly, and said, "I had to set them straight back there" Even though I didn't get to enjoy it at the restaurant, I rode home excited to eat my meal. Lady at the front was rude as soon as we walked in. We had our infant, stroller baby items and a drink. The first thing she said was "outside beverages can't be in here, we can throw it away". We have visited this location on numerous occasions, after our Sunday mornings church services. The waitress and waiters are always great helpful and very friendly. The restaurant is always pretty bustling with diners. Our waitress today was Sheryl, I have seen her before but we are not usually in her service area. Today we had her pleasure and she is a absolute doll. Joyful friendly and helpful. Sheryl made went thr extra step to provide me with French vanilla coffee flavor, I really appreciate her for this. Sheryl delivered our meals and checked on us frequently to see of we were good and we were. The 3 stars are for Sheryls service and the food. I didn't rate 4 stars because the window had soooo many flies fighting to get out , bouncing against it, the table and my seat. ugghhh I didn't fuss about it because I just wanted to eat and leave. Went to Village Inn on College Dr. on April 30. I ordered a veggie omelette that the menu says comes with a fruit cup and choice of toast or pancakes. My order did not come with the fruit cup. When I asked for the fruit cup the waitress said it was an option and I chose the pancakes. I pointed out to her that the menu says comes with Ranchero sauce and mozzarella cheese. Served with a fruit cup and choice of toast or pancakes. She said again that the fruit cup is an option and her manager wouldn't let her change that. I could see we weren't getting anywhere. I went on the Village Inns website and left the message above. I received an email saying someone would contact me within 48 hours. No one did. I responded on May 6th to their email saying I was still waiting to hear from someone. Still no contact with anyone from Village Inn. Very disappointed, used to go there quite often and this was the first time we had this issue. Didn't recognize the waitress. Assume she was new there. Our server was very friendly and timely, and my wife and I both got the same thing: chicken fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs. On February 8th my wife and I came to the Suffolk, Va location for breakfast at 0930 am and noticed the lack of workers on the floor and quickly it was evident the service was going to sub- standard. It took nearly 10 min to get a server to take my drink order then another 10 min to get two hot teas at which time we gave our order. We received our order over 30 min later and the food I received seemed like half was missing. We have frequented this location a few times and the Va beach location many times so the portion sizes is something we are familiar with and on this day it was definitely lacking ( see attached photo). Our server did the best she could but we only counted about 3 servers for the entire diner counting the manager. We have finished our meal roughly 20 min now and we still have not received our check. Ownership needs to overhaul the staff here with people who are willing to come to work.we have watched at least 3 different patrons leave due to lack of service. At least half the establishment is empty and it's that way due to lack of service which can be just as detrimental as bad service. read more

Last Saturday, our Men's Ministry was on our way back from playing Top Golf. One of our members pointed out that the Village Inn Restaurant was the best kept secret in all of Southside Virginia. Now I had originally decided to go on Wednesday by my lonesome but my family talked me into going today. Turns out we made the right decision because not only did our waitress Kay took excellent care of us but Mr. Vernon cleaned the restroom and restocked the paper towels. The food was AMAZING, though I forgot to use my $10 coupon for becoming a new member (or something like that)! But mark my words, I will be back, but this time with some more friends and family. Really not a fan. The service is great- that's their two stars. From the host & hostess at the front to the server to the cashier- all incredibly nice & hospitable. The food was not good at all to me. I got French toast with hash-browns, bacon, & scrambled eggs. The french toast was the only edible thing, and the eggs were mediocre. I asked for my bacon extra well done, and it was still too undercooked for me (although I like my bacon burnt to a crisp...). It tasted like they had it sitting around and threw it in the microwave. Not good. Then my hash-browns were SO greasy!! They tasted similar in texture to the bacon. I almost was gonna send my bacon & hash-browns back (I'm not one of those who are afraid if it's not how I like it- if it's an easy fix, that is), but since majority of meal was "meh," I just chose to suck it up and deal. Oh- I also ordered a mixed drink, and it was overly sweet (this was after I ate syrup on my french toast, so you know it was too sweet!). So my partner worked at Village Inn all through high school and college, so there's a serious nostalgia factor at play anytime we decide to stop by. If we're being honest, it's not much different from other obvious breakfast chains we could bring up. But, that doesn't mean it's bad, because it isn't. It's good simple comfort food. So, I am BEYOND thrilled that this location opened up because the VA Beach and Chesapeake ones are a haul for us from Newport News. We passed this while we were wandering around in the area and were like, WHAT?! How did we not know this was so close to us!? So now we've stopped in several times for a quite bite and some pie. The staff has been super friendly and efficient every time. The location is clean and inviting. First things first the service was horrible. I went with my parents for brunch. We get there and we are seated and the waitress takes our order like normal . This location is newer than the one i'm used to (the vb location) it was PACKED and even more bogged down due to server shortages a la covid, Thankfully with us being such a small party we didn't have to wait too long.
