Let me just first say that by looking at the overall score for this dealership, you may think that they are decent enough, but fyi there are currently 213 reviews down below that did not get factored into the overall scoring of this dealership (most of them are 1 star reviews). Take the time to read them and you may change your mind about giving this place your business. If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. So that being said, please be cautious if you decide to go to this dealership. They use BAIT AND SWITCH tactics and have the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!
My husband and I found a used Honda Civic on Metro Honda's website that was priced within our budget. He verified that the vehicle was still available via a chat session with their online sales rep. The rep also confirmed that the mileage and price were the same as listed on their website. When asked if the price was negotiable, she mentioned the car had been on their lot for 78 days and was set to go to auction on day 80. She said the car was priced to sell, however, they "may have a little room" to come down in price. My husband explained to her that we lived in San Diego, 1.5 hours away from their location, and that it would take us a while to get there. She wasn't going to be there by the time we arrived but she informed the staff that we were on our way.
Long story short- we test drove the car, verified the mileage and price, and everything was as described in the listing. At that point we asked for their best price. The salesperson responded, "You wouldn't have driven up here if it wasn't already a good price." We were handed off to his supervisor (Robert) who presented us with their offer, which was $995.00 HIGHER than the advertised and sticker price! This new price reflected a dealer add-on of an alarm system that wasn't listed anywhere on the sticker price nor on their online listing. We told him we didn't want to buy the alarm and he replied they "can't just rip out" something that's already installed in the vehicle. I said it seemed strange to install dealer add-ons on a pre-owned vehicle and I hadn't seen other dealers do that before. He responded, "You should go to a different dealership then." I was on the verge of tears at that point. I couldn't believe that we were being treated with such disrespect. It clearly showed us that they do not value their customers and just want to get as much money as they can. One would think that they would want to move a car that was going to auction in a couple days if it didn't sell, but the salesperson stated that they could probably make more money from the auction than from us. Clearly they had no intention of honoring their online price, which was just a ploy to get us to come in.
This whole experience was a classic bait and switch. Metro Honda must have assumed that we'd buy the car no matter what add-ons were included at the last minute, especially given the fact that we drove 1.5 hours to get there. Funny thing is, we did another online chat a couple days later and turns out the car was still available. We again inquired about the price and was told it was as advertised. We then asked if there were any additional costs (aside from tax, license and doc fees), dealer add-ons, etc. We were told "we do not add dealer add ons for preowned vehicles". SMH...proof was there in writing that they used bait and switch on us.
Even more insulting was the fact that their General Manager, Jeff Proctor, did not even respond to an email that we sent explaining our experience with their dealership. It goes to show the lack of customer service trickles down from the top.
In the end, we got a fantastic deal on a 2014 Accord Coupe through a local dealer. We regret having travelled to this dealership, but are so glad that we didn't give them our business. We hope that this review will spare someone from experiencing what we went through.
