This place rocks for car service. If you just moved to NW DC and are looking for a good, honest mechanic then congrats...you just found what you're looking for. Parker's was recommended to me by a co-worker who really knows about cars...what he can't do alone, he has done here. My Beetle was having some light issues, so I called Benny. He had me in the next morning, and by 1:30 I had a full report on the problem. Not only was he completely honest (it was an issue he could have easily made a little worse for more money), but he told me exactly what needed to be done to correct the problem (body issue...not something he could fully correct). His time and labor (which also included an oil change and a full inspection of the car) came to $100. Everyone I dealt with at the shop was extremely friendly and professional. Let me start by saying that I've been getting gas at this filling station ever since I moved to the area 5 years ago. Yes, it's more expensive than others, but I'd have to go out of my way and it's just not worth it. Plus, I've always said how much I like that they play classical music. This morning on my way to work, my tire pressure light went on. I stopped to get air and did not have any quarters. There was nobody behind the counter and I looked around to see a man helping another woman fill her tires. This is what happens when the weather changes, I guess! Anyway, I waited for him to finish and when he came in, I said that I just needed quarters. I had a one dollar bill and a $10 in my wallet. I handed him my $10 and asked for $2 worth since sometimes those machines don't give you much time. He *ROLLED HIS EYES* at me and said to make sure I read the directions. I told him that I knew how much tire pressure to put in, but that I wasn't sure which tire it was that was low. He interrupted me and said that he meant to read the directions on the machine because nobody ever does and he has to end up helping them. His tone was annoyed and sharp. I told him that it wasn't necessary to be rude and that I was capable of reading directions. I commented that I'd had a really crappy morning so far and that I would have appreciated a tiny bit of kindness. Honestly, I up to that point, I had been NOTHING but nice to him. He gave me my $8 change and I walked out. He ended up following me out of the store, saying that he had given me incorrect change. He claimed that he'd give me change for a $20. I opened up my wallet and showed him everything I had, which was $9. I had forgotten that I had a dollar in addition to the $10 and handed him that dollar, thinking he had given me $9 in change. Then he said that if I would "calm down", he would help me. Now, I will admit that I was really pissed at this point. But, he had been condescending and rude from the moment we began interacting. I guess he assumed that because I was relatively young (although I'm 45, so not that young) and a woman, that I could not read directions or fill tires without help? No...I don't want your help, thankyouverymuch. I hope he's happy with the extra dollar that he got. I will be going out of my way to get gas elsewhere now...they will not get another dime from me. read more

Went in to get brakes checked as had just bought a car and they were making an odd noise. Parker's said I had "0/32nds life left. (metal on metal)" for rear brakes. That seemed odd for a car that just passed inspection. I went somewhere else, which did not charge $49.82 for the evaluation, and found it was rust on the rotors. The brakes still had 3/32nds of life left. read more

I had my entire exhaust system replaced by these guys. Before getting it replaced, I got quotes from several shops - and these guys were not far off in price from the cheapest shop. They were the original shop I got the quote from, and they are near my house - so I stuck with them. When it was replaced, the system made a loud noise, if the accelerator was depressed vigorously. The head technician listened to the engine as I was about to pick up the car and stopped me from picking it up to make some adjustments. He made adjustments and told me he was satisfied with the results. However, when I got the car home, I noticed it was still making loud noises, when the car was pointed uphill. Two weeks later, I took the car back into the shop. The head technician rode in the car with me to a hill to listen for the noise I was talking about. He took the car back to the shop and made further adjustments, which eliminated the problem, free of charge. These guys addressed my (legitimate) concerns with a great attitude. I just had a horrible experience at Parker's Exxon. The woman who works at the front desk is very nasty and unhelpful. I tried to set up an oil change and was told to come back 3 times; the last time I was told it was my fault she wasn't able to get it done even though I returned 5 minutes after she told me she could. This station is a disgrace to the neighborhood and certainly not worth their expensive prices. read more

Had a flat tire and my old go-to shop was fully booked. I called and was able to be helped immediately. I was extremely satisfied with the service and kindness of the employees. My tire had a nail in it, which was plugged, and two new tires were ordered for me to match the other two and were delivered and replaced same day. Will never go back to my old shop again after learning they had improperly taken care of my previous tire issues. Glad I found Parker's! read more

I love having a mechanic in the neighborhood that I can trust. Benny and his team have always done right by me taking care of our cars for the last 5 yrs. My Mom has been going to Benny at Exxon Parker for many years. She has trusted him with her precious car for many years. Today it was my turn. Last week my car started having issues. Called Benny and we arranged to bring my car in yesterday morning around 9 am. I got a call from Benny 45 minutes later and he had already diagnosed the issue and was ready to get started fixing the problem. By 2pm the same day, I was on my way to pick up my fixed car. Benny has really great customer service and is so polite, I asked him to change my oil but also check into a sound i was hearing. He checked it out and could have charged me for something but instead said he checked everything out saftey wise to make sure I would be ok on a long trip and saw a piece of plastic hanging in the front that he was able to latch on and hopefully stop the noise. I stopped by because the bolts on my rear license plate holder were rusted and stripped, and I could not remove them alone. (Thanks, DC, for the $200 ticket "reminder") A very nice young man came out and removed the rusted bolts for me, then installed my new license plates, free of charge! I have been going to this shop for car service since 1975. A couple months ago the service manager Benny refused to service my Subaru, giving no reason. These guys are crooks. Overcharged for parts over retail by almost 100% suggested that I needed rear brake replacement last August. I declined, and they still work in February.Benny and the shop should be avoided. Metro Motors owns now and did not respond to my concerns. read more

I recently moved to DC and as a young woman who doesn't know much about cars, I was worried about being taken advantage of. However, I was treated fairly and very respectfully. very ignorant man behind the counter. charges 5cents for matches so i asked for a lighter instead. he asks for my ID. there is no law in dc requiring ID for matches or a lighter. i drive an expensive car and when i came in he was staring me down. i dont know what his goal was asking for my ID, but I would never go there again. read more

I strongly urge you to avoid Parker's Exxon. Ten minutes after picking my car up from a routine oil change at Parker's, my brakes failed completely - when I tried to brake, the pedal went straight to the floor and the car kept moving. I had not had any brake trouble before dropping the car off for an oil change. I had the car towed back to Parker's Exxon. I'm not particularly mechanics-savvy but here is my attempt to describe the mechanic's explanation for the failure. After looking at it, he confirmed that the rear brake was completely drained of fluid. The brake line was starting to leak when they did the oil change and he admitted that when they filled it up with fluid, it may have exacerbated the problem and caused the fluid to drain. When I picked up the car from the oil change initially, the attendant did not notify me verbally of the leaking nor of the fact that the mechanic's actions might compromise my brakes. She just handed me a receipt for the oil change, which had printed on it "Note: steel brake line going to wheel cylinders (p/side) starting to leak, needs rear wheel cylinders, rear shoes, steel lines made up both side rears to junction EST: $216.50 Lines, $372.21 Rear shoes and cylinder A.S.A.P." She did not mention any problems with the car, and certainly did not warn me that my brakes might fail in the next 10 minutes. Since I don't know much about mechanics, I can't say to what extent the mechanic's action caused the brake failure. But if he was aware that what he did might cause them to fail, as his later statement indicated he was, it seems highly irresponsible to let me drive away without a word of warning. Ultimately, I was charged $600 to have the brakes fixed and not even an apology (or a discount) for what could have caused a very serious accident. read more

We go to Parker's Exxon when we have an urgent problem, like a flat tire, broken headlight, etc. We live closer to a couple other service stations, but we trust Parker's to be honest about what we need and competent to repair the problem. Our latest incident involved a flat tire on the road, a few miles from the station. I changed the tire for the spare and left the damaged tire at Parker's, but it was late in the day, and there was no repair person on duty until the following morning. I left the tire and wheel. Jennifer called the next day, a Sunday, and said the tire was not repairable because it had been run too long with low or no tire pressure and the inside was compromised. I was disappointed, but not surprised. I had driven about a quarter mile on a dead-flat tire before I realized what was wrong. She asked if I wanted to pick it up, order a new tire from her or order one from TireRack.com and have it delivered for Parker to balance and install. She said TireRack.com might be faster. I had a poor customer service experience at this Metro Motor location. I received a flyer in the mail that included a coupon for a synthetic oil change and check-up, so I decided to give this place a try. I called ahead because the flyer recommended booking an appointment for quicker service. The person I spoke to on the phone was helpful and professional, but she informed me that they didn't take appointments for an oil change/check-up (it would be first-come, first-serve). She did say something like, "the earlier the better," but didn't suggest that I should get in by a certain time to get service that day. I showed up around 8:45 am on a Thursday. I walked over to the garage to ask about the oil change/check-up. The two employees that I approached seemed annoyed that I was interrupting their chat, and were somewhat unpleasant. They pointed me in the direction of a guy who I believe was the manager, and said I'd have to ask him. The manager was at least courteous and professional, but he did say that they were already slammed and they couldn't service my car today. This was very frustrating - it's not often that I get a day off work and I'm able to get away for something like this. Also, why send out flyers to drum up business if you're turning people away before 9 am on a weekday? I won't be coming back again to this Metro Motor location. Stopped by this morning to put air in my tire. I had a nail in it. The mechanic came out and took a look and offered to plug it. I was in a rush, but he was able to fix it and properly inflate all of my tires in 5 minutes. Very helpful. Great service! read more

I too can't believe I'm commenting on a service station. Parker's has been perfect for me, in service, price, responsiveness, politeness, helpfulness. And I've asked for some favors that they didn't make any money on and got them nothing but good will from me. Great folks. This is a clear case of intentional misrepresentation by your attendant on duty (Name given: Jennifer) who was on duty at the time of service 1 Nov 2014; provided a quote for an oil change that was clearly misrepresentative; she, then charged nearly double the quoted price, against the will and permission of the card holder. An immediate demand for restitution has been offered to the proprietor. read more

I'm glad to see that some folks are happy here. My wife and I buy gas here occasionally when we are desperate and it's worth the extra 30-50 cents a gallon. It's proximity has also led us to have a few minor repairs done, even though we know we are going to be overcharged. The convenience factor takes some of the sting out of the bill. However, after being charged $63 to plug a tire today, we will not be going back. We've been overcharged by more than that on some of the repairs they've done for us in the past, but the fact that they take a simple job like this and still find a way to gouge you is just too much. Besides I really can't face the scary woman behind the counter again either. I recommend that you keep moving, if you can. read more

I have to wonder if this place has changed ownership. I live in the neighborhood and Parkers for years was always very helpful with whatever major or minor questions I had with my car. Sure the gas was / is higher than most other place, however their service was friendly, they helped me out (even one time coming to change a tire free of charge) and I felt like I could trust them. Wow was I wrong. My car was not running and had break issues. I first called them to see if they could either come tow or jump my car. This had never been an issue before as they had jumped me twice. I was told "they didn't do that"... I should have listened to that warning. But I didn't. After calling out another service to get the car started, I drove it down to Parkers. I felt like the price they quoted was exceptionally high, however the car was essentially not running not to mention I had no time to go get other quotes so I let them do the work. After paying for and picking up the car I noticed my check engine light was on. I drove it back to the station for them to tell me, "you probably have engine problems, bring it in in the morning and we will run diagnostics and get you a quote"... this did not sound right to me. I take it in for breaks and I come out with engine problems? and I knew with my car the engine light can be ignited over a host of different things. A quick google search later at home reveled I probably had a fuse blown. I went to check my fuse box... nope not a fuse blown a fuse COMPLETELY REMOVED. I placed it back in the slot, engine light went off I am good to go, except for wondering who the HECK removed my fuse... I guess the thing that makes me the angriest is that they didn't even offer to check it out for me just assumed I would bring it in and pay more $$$ when even the most basic of google searches shows is a fuse problem - something that you would think a mechanic would KNOW and offer to check. Sad thing is if they had bothered to do that and it wasn't a fuse I probably would have let them fix it... Lesson Learned. Shame on them. read more
