I have been dealing with Reinharts on and off for 20 years. The car I had them service originally a 2007 Dodge Caliber is still running. I just took my 2016 Hyundai Tucson to them for a repair that my local Hyundai (Alexandria) screwed up. They listen to your concern and are honest. Their prices are probably comparable with the dealership. The biggest difference is they answer the phone and call you back with an update something the above mentioned does not. read more

This place used to be excellent, but Victor retired and they now are incompetent and not honest. We brought in a Subaru for a problem (stalling when cold) and they did not fix it but charged $1000. They changed the oil but did not properly put the cap on the oil tank (left off washer) and we ended up with an oil leak. Jiffy lube fixed it up for 1/10 the price. They used to be good but they have gone downhill and I do not recommend at all. Other neighbors report them recommending work that is not needed. Stay away. read more

I've had a persistent problem with my 2015 Honda Odyssey with the automatic ECO-mode - the engine automatically drops down to 3 cylinders from 6 cylinders. After a few thousand miles, it causes the engine to misfire. Being a female, I always am cognizant about being scammed regarding anything revolving cars. Admittedly, I don't know much about them, but I can typically wrap my head around certain concerns. I explained the vehicle problem with Victor at Reinhart's, and I could just tell based on his demeanor that he was being honest with me and that he truly wanted to fix my problem. This problem happened twice (not his fault) and he said you may as well sell this car or call Honda to see if they will give you some money to fix this. He even said he feels bad that I have to keep spending money on this car when this problem is going to keep happening. He fixed it twice, once for $400 and the second time he fixed it, it was very cheap - like $200. Anyway, I would give this mechanic 10 stars if I could. Can always trust them no matter the issue. I was originally bringing my truck to the family member's location in Capitol Hill. This location always had excellent service, were timely, and didn't appear to be bullshitting me. Sadly they have moved away, but recommended this location across the Potomac as a good place to continue our service. I have never felt like I was being cheated or lied to. They have offered extraneous suggestions, but were never pushy about fixing things early. This garage feels fair and honest so far, and I've had to bring my truck in to get everything from brakes, engine, shocks, and catalytic converter replacements. All of this was performed for a fair value. As long as I live in this area I will only use this garage. read more

I have heard good things about Reinhart's and can add my good story to the mix now. As a single older woman I've gotten pretty good at sussing out when someone is pulling the wool over my eyes, when they are trying upsell me, bait and switch and so on. I asked Reinhart to replace a regulator for a malfunctioning car window and to let me know if they thought the car needed any other fixes. They did identify a few other smaller ticket issues, which I knew the car needed. They did not add any phantom repairs to pad the bill. I have been using Reinhart's for years and have always had top notch service from Victor. About 3 years ago we moved out of the area but I STILL use Victor if my car can drive the 225 mile trip. The latest mechanic we use is rated five stars but is unable to fix everything. I tell the new mechanics to get my car in good enough shape to drive the 200+ mile trip so I can take it to Reinhardt's. Without fail, Victor finds the problem and fixes it. We have been customers of Victors since 2008 when we moved into the neighborhood. Over the last 30 years of owning cars and going to mechanics from California to New York, I have found none that are truly exceptional, until I met Victor Reinhart. I have many stories over the years of how he did the right thing and took care of us and our automobiles. I will share a few to give you a sense of his character and integrity. The radiator in our honda was leaking and instead of charging us hundreds or thousands of dollars Victor made a simple 10 dollar repair suggestion that kept the car going. The other day I called his shop and hung up before the call went through. Victor called me back and my house number just to make sure everything was okay. He is fair and very professional. read more

He gets our jobs done quickly, and I don't feel like - not knowing much about cars - I'm being taken for a ride when I go there. He's convenient, smart, always manages to stay neat (I don't quite know how given his profession), and runs a professional shop. He's kept our cars in good repair for several years now. UPDATE: I still love Victor, but I had a recent experience that was less than great. We decided to put upwards of $3,500 into a car to bring it up to speed on his recommendation, only to have the transmission break for an additional $3,200 a few months later. I'd taken it to the Honda dealership after Victor's initial repairs, and they let me know the transmission was going to break, leaving me wondering if Victor might have caught this with a little more thorough investigation before we decided to commit to this car. read more

Honest and easy to work with. Victor, the owner, is very personable and will tell you exactly what the issue is and why it needs to fixed. They will not try to sell you anything you do not need. I even drive all the way from Rockville to use this mechanic since they are that trustworthy. I go twice a year for oil changes and tire rotations, along with any other necessary maintenance that is needed. They will do a thorough check of car when you visit so that they can catch anything and fix it before it becomes a real issue. They will call you after the check to let you know if anything additional needs to be fixed/replaced, and provide you the estimated cost, and will not move forward without your approval. They have a drop box in front so you can drop it off before work and are open until 7pm. Usually the work is done in one day - call ahead to make appointment. Metro and ART buses stop right outside. Closed on weekends but this is the only issue with this mechanic. Bring your car here and you will sleep easy knowing it is in good hands :) read more

This was my first time going here, and a friend recommended them. Of the mechanics I called for quotes, they seemed the most knowledgable about my 2014 Mazda CX-5, the issue it was having (drive belt tensioner leak) and how best to fix it. The labor cost seemed on par for the area, and they were able to order the parts I needed in a day. They were very nice and Victor took time to show me the problem, what could have caused it and explain how they fixed it. I would definitely go here again for a repair over the Mazda dealership. read more

UPDATE: 04/02/2015 - - my "normal" BMW only, mechanic said I had a leak from the coolant tubing. It was part of the radiator replacement that was done 18 months ago by Reinhart, so I feel disappointed. It's outside warranty perod, and I would be suspicious if they they even admit it was part of their work. I used them once, cost me $1,900 -- for 10 year old German Car. Basically, like all garages, they make their money selling replacement parts at retail price (marked up) and a reasonable amount for labor ($90-$100/hour - paying their guys about $35-$40/hour in wages). Garages don't compete on price -- a good one will properly diagnose the problem, and their software tells them the part cost & how much labor, whether or not the mechanic actually needed more or less time (we all pay the average labor cost). A lousy garage will tell you the power steering is leaking, and then replace the plumbing only to discover something else was leaking so you pay for misdiagnosed repairs plus the correct repair. Dealers are famous for unnecessary repairs (like throttle body cleaning). Here's what he charged me -- $470 for a new alternator (Bosch) plus labor prescribed by the software; and about $580 to replace the radiator . . . he talked me into replacing the main belt (which was replaced 2 years ago) since the accessories area was going to be opened up -- part cost mostly -- if you do a specific belt replacement, it could be up to $600 to get access to the area. So the main question is . . . were these real problems. The alternator was, as the (new) battery would not hold a charge. His pricing is average -- no deals on parts, and his labor seems to reflect a couple of hours gaining access, removing broken parts & installing the new ones. I think the others like this shop because their problems were easily diagnosed, and the the cost reflected a correct fix - - they did not get a bargain in parts or labor. You'll find that common parts are about 1/2 over the internet, depending on whether it's a name brand or so China aftermarket product. Basically, it comes down to whether Rheinhart or any garage correctly diagnoses the problem. After that, the software spits out the cost. Dealers often charge more, but usually through unnecessary service or those mileage "packages" where they replace 1-2 fluids, do an "inspection" and mark up the actual cost by 2 as a "package price." read more

I have been taking my 2006 Audi A3 to Reinhart's to be serviced over the last 3 years and also to make other repairs such as changing the tires. Victor suggested I ordered them on-line and have them deliver them to them for installation. They did a really good job, aligning and balancing them. They also took care of a casket oil leak recently. Victor has advised me on what needs to be changed urgently and what can wait 'until next time'. I have been very pleased with the repairs but mostly with the way they take the time to explain what is wrong in a polite knowledgable fashion. I recommend them fully. read more

I've been using Reinhart's for years. Ernie and Eric really know what they are doing. They have always given me good advice and have only done the work on my cars that was really needed at a fair price. Nothing fancy but if you don't want to pay for the fancy showroom and dealer ambiance this is the place for you. I contacted the garage about a problem with my Saab 900. The mechanic seemed more concerned with ridiculing my car than helping me arrange for service. Being that my car was somewhat immobilized and there was no other Saab service nearby, I had no choice but to take my car there, anyway. Once I got there, he continued being abusive and unprofessional. I simply asked if I could obtain a copy of the inspection he made as well as an itemized copy of estimated costs for repair before service, to which he threatened that I "needed to get my car up out of there." because he felt I had no rights to ask for this (which, legally, I had every right...and he knew it.) I felt he knew I was in a bind, and that this would cause a severe hardship, he could have cared less, and he was actually enjoying seeing me have to basically apologize for no reason, because I was in a jam. I hated having them service my car. I am very glad I live nowhere near there and there is no chance I'll ever have to be subjected to that type of abuse again. Frankly, they should be glad I'll never enter their business again, because I can guarantee my response would be different next time...yes, I mean precisely what that suggests. Reinharts has been my go-to garage for 20 years. Back then there reallly was a Reinhart but for 10 years or so its been owned by the 3 Momanian brothers who own several repair garages including a few on Capitol Hill. Victor M runs Reinharts and is a gem. Quiet, hardworking and hands on in the repair bays. They've done all my non-warranty BMW work for 20 years and they are great. My '93 525 is still running thanks to them. Ernie and Erik are 60 something and have see it all. They are great too; low key, intelligent and customer friendly. I've had the shop work on my old Audi A4, my now old BMW 325i, and my newer Audi Q5. I recommend it highly because I trust its work and its recommendations. I think the key thing with auto repair is whether or not you trust the shop, and for me, that generally comes down to whether or not the shop pushes you to do work that isn't necessary (which, in my experience, is every dealer I've ever worked with, and almost every chain repair shop). This place strikes me as honest. They don't come back and recommend things that you don't need. And, they will tell you when a repair cost will be high and out of line with the age of the car (as in I needed extensive engine work in my old A4 and it wasn't worth it). I appreciate that. If you have a German car (or a car with particular service requirements), I appreciate that they actually use the right oil and filter (even if it's not the standard type). I made the mistake of bringing my new Q5 to the dealer for an oil change, and the dealer (which is supposed to be factory trained) forgot to screw back the undercarriage plastic protector thing. It came down on the PA turnpike. Not pretty. But a good reminder to visit Reinhart's for future work, even during the warranty period. read more

They looked at my car and prioritized what should be done to our car so it would be safe for us. The car was ready when promised. The repairs the amount they quoted! I haven't actually used Reinhart's garage YET, though I absolutely will in the future after my experience this morning. Thanks to a huge pothole on 66 between Courthouse and Rosslyn (watch out!) I got a flat tire and had to pull off to the shoulder. While I debated the safety of changing the tire myself on the busy highway, a good Samaritan pulled over and offered to change it for me! I'm just realizing that in my slight panic I forgot to get his first name (and now feel like a complete jerk), but he was an employee of Reinhart's Garage, and I cannot thank him enough for taking time out of his day to pull over and offer help to a complete stranger. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to pay this kindness forward, and will be recommending Reinhart's whenever I have the chance! :) :) read more

When I contacted this garage to arrange for service, the lead mechanic expended quite a bit of time and energy insulting me personally and disparaging my car, remarking about how it seemed ridiculous that I had trusted it for a cross-country trip, rather than focusing on engaging in meaningful dialogue about what might be necessary to address an issue that resulted from an incident that had NOT arisen because of mechanical problems. Further, when I asked for a written estimate for expected services - what I regarded to be a routine customer request, and one I have routinely made at other garages without incident - he became very belligerent and basically threatened that I needed to take my business elsewhere. My being from out of town (which he was aware off) made it particularly distressing that I absorbed what to me constituted bullying and harassment. WORST experience with a garage I have EVER experienced (and that is saying quite a bit.) read more
