Having lived in NYC for over 30 years, I've had many occasions where I needed the services of a moving company. My experiences have run the gamut from "adequate" to downright scary (I once got locked in the back of a box truck by one notorious--now shuttered--company that demanded an extra $1000 to unload my items when we got to my new location. When I tried to unload them myself, they pulled down the door and "took me for a ride" through the Bronx, until they eventually shook me down for an extra $700!). My wife and I used Metropolis Moving three times over the last three years with the last one being a move from NY to Miami. Matt (owner) and John packed everything, drove the truck themselves and unloaded everything in Miami. Needless to say, everything arrived in perfect condition. There's a reason these guys have all 5 star reviews! Matt and his team are simply awesome, and everything about the process was easy for me. This was much appreciated, since it was my first time hiring movers. The inventory you fill out on the website for quotes actually has all the stuff you need to list, like the Ikea Expedit cubes (is it a bookshelf? a cabinet? I didn't have to figure it out, because they have it on the site.) I filled out a few others, and theirs was by far the most helpful, even including photos so you can figure out if you have a large or small cabinet, etc. I got my quote quickly afterwards, and all subsequent questions were responded to very promptly. Then there was their attitudes, which were awesome. My wife and I own way, way too many books, and they never complained about moving 15 boxes of them. I have two cats, and they helped by emptying rooms systematically so I could shuffle them around my railroad apartment. Really nice guys. All my furniture arrived in my new place exactly the same as when it left, due to the careful wrapping jobs on the part of the movers, with plenty of clean blankets. My belongs are not that vaiuable, but they treated them with tons of care. Their pricing was right in line with other comparable companies, and I liked the peace of mind of a flat rate quote. Just make sure you're honest about all the stuff you own, and you'll know exactly what you'll be paying come moving day. I could go on and on, but really, just hire them already! When I first used them to move 1.5 years ago they were great, price was amazing our move was about a 15 mile drive from a house to an apartment. When I recently asked for a quote for a move in our SAME BUILDING they have the audacity to quote literally $300 more then what I paid the first time for no driving and less work moving from one floor to another in the same place. It all worked out needless to say and I found a much better company that quoted me fairly. Obviously taking advantage during a pandemic. We could not say enough about Matt and his crew - they are true life saviors. Besides the fact that they are cool, calm and collected they gave us the best deal for our move from Williamsburg to Bushwick. They are also crazy creative when it comes to problem furniture. Case in point: Our sofa would not fit through the front door of our 1st floor apt so they took it upstairs and moved it through the back window while Matt stood on a freaking latter trying to catch it. From my first conversations with Corey, a truly lovely person, to the actual move with Alan and Darryl (who really missed his calling as a comedian) this team made my move stress free and simple. Corey's insights and informed suggestions into how to approach my move from Brooklyn to a Manhattan 4 flight walk up made this an anxiety-free enjoyable experience, and the friendly and efficient crew made it a moving party! Even after giving me the original quote, Corey worked with me to fine tune my moving list and was able to lower it TWICE! By 200 dollars! I was stunned by how reasonable and fair the original quote was and then, IT GOT CHEAPER! I certainly did not expect that. I need to also note that at least one of their competitors (who call themselves the best) were aggressive in persuing my business for more than a week after I told them I had gone with another company. (11 emails, multiple texts and calls which evolved from claims they were the only trustworthy company in town to actual badmouthing of other companies and accusing them of ripping people off, unsavory employees and suprise extra charges).Obviously they were desperate and threatened by a company that does a great job and treats its customers honorably and with respect. Metropolis will be my moving company from now on..I felt like my move mattered to them, that I mattered to them and Corey helped me relax and put my faith in them to get it done.
