This wasn't my first ride on a Mid American. They've always been clean, good drivers, but tonight…read morewas exceptional. Took the coach to Frozen On Ice at Scott Trade in STL. The snow was coming down before we began our trip. Cindy our driver, and Glenda our concierge, were not only a fantastic team but made even the nervous passengers feel at ease. Glenda came around with candy for everyone and had a little trivia to pass the time for the up'ing travelers. Traffic was so backed up, because of the weather, but Cindy maneuvered around the traffic and got us to the show on time. It was wonderful to be dropped RIGHT at the door. The snow continued while we were at the show. When we came out, she was again Right at the door. How convenient! Especially with all the little "Elsa's" not completely dressed for the weather. We had to wait to start the snowy trek home. There were 3 passengers missing for quite a while, and Glenda went on a hunt for them. She and Cindy were patient and polite to the absent passengers, and Cindy attended to us waiting patiently on the coach. Cindy was an EXCELLENT driver and made everyone feel very safe. The driving conditions with crazy semi's zooming by was nerve wracking, but Cindy handled it with ease. Glenda brought the Frozen DVD to watch on the way home. It was a great distraction for anxious passengers and the tired young uns. When we arrived back, Glenda helped people clean off the 3+ inches of snow mounded on their vehicles. Cindy waited in the coach with passengers while their cars warned up. WOW....these ladies were impressive!!! If I could give 10 stars I would!!!

I will list what where we stopped and rate each individual place. SALT AND SMOKE- OMG THE BEST PLACE ON THE TOUR. They gave us brisket and Mac -n- cheese( which they just won an award for) I live on the East Coast and we are not known for good BBQ but being a foodie I do know good food and this place was slammin! The brisket was the best I've ever had and so was the Mac-n-cheese made with some ritz crackers on top. The manager was very friendly and welcoming. They showed us the smokers up close which was very cool. They have 4 different sauces to try all made in house and all delicious. Liked it so much we are going back for dinner. PI PIZZA- Being from the East Coast, New Haven, home of world famous Sally's and Pepe's Pizza I have high standards for pizza. This pizza was not what I'm used to but enjoyed trying it anyway. They served a small pizza for the 3 of us which is extremely generous on a food tour! SHAWARMA KING- kind of a dive place for college kids, kind of while in the wall place. Chicken schwarma was tasty and falafel was average. Owner wasn't talkative or friendly but that's ok. I would eat here if a broke college kid or drunk at 2am but not a place for a first date SEOUL TACO- Korean taco joint. We had a beef taco which was delicious and kimchi rice that was also good. I would go back to this place for sure. PICCIONE PASTRY- they gave each of us a gooey butter cake canoli. St. Louis is famous for gooey butter cake if u didn't know. The cannoli was filled to order and was very good. Very sweet but very good. The tour was about $55 a person and was well worth it. I've been on other food tours across the country and this one gave us the most food for our money. I've been to others where we left hungry but not here! If you take this tour at 11 am like we did I suggest you do not eat breakfast! I would definitely recommend this tour if you are visiting St Louis both for the food and to learn the history. On our tour we hit: Urban Chestnut, Bluewood Brewing, Wellspent Brewing and Perennial Brewing. Each brewery had a large selection of beers. We even got behind the scenes tours of Wellspent and Bluewood which was super interesting. Our guide Jesse was awesome! He is a great guy with a lot of knowledge on everything breweries. If you want to know more about beer, a 15 mile radius from STL, there are 74 breweries. You won't get to tour all 74 but you can tour 4! We traveled and toured Six Mile, Arch Nemeiss, SteamPunk, and MKNZ. The beer subject matter expert is Jesse! I encourage you to Google Brew Hop STL and sign up! Every year we have struggles with transportation for this trip, so this being such a great experience was a relief!

They've always been flexible with our plans and let us add extra time, when schedules permit..hey, after the 3rd winery, it's possible to lose track of time. ‍ The small bus holds 12 but you may want to cut that number to 11 if you have fluffy passengers. Seating around the perimeter makes for easy drink sharing/dancing as does the great sound system and cute lights for nighttime trips. This is a small business that makes connections with their customers and we can't wait to use them in the future!

At each stop we were given a history of the stop and a recounting of some of the "Hauntings"'that had occurred. We never got to actually see the spaces where, for example, the sightings appeared. "We don't go in there"'or "we can't go in there"'was a common phrase. The tour could have been at least an hour shorter, since the stories all started to sound the same, given that we didn't actually see any of the interiors of the buildings where things supposedly took place, with one exception ( a tunnel used for hiding escaped slaves using the Underground Railroad ). I wouldn't go again unless they change it up and let the group go inside the buildings or rooms. Way too expensive for an evening walk around downtown Alton.
