Pleasantly surprised, I really enjoyed this restaurant. I went with my partner for dinner on a weekday and they had plenty of seats available. Option to sit at the bar (there are two bar booths) and then the dining room. We sat in the dining room. To start, we got the lobster bisque - creamy and delicious with pieces of lobster and potato. The serving was larger than I imagined! Perfect to share. At $17, the portion was right. For our entree, we got the rib eye for two cooked medium. Delicious!!! Sides of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. The creamed spinach is veryyyy creamy, I almost wish there was more spinach but I can't complain because I love the cream. Mashed potatoes were tasty too. For dessert we got the hazelnut gelato. It had an ever so slight crunch to it which was SO GOOD. The only thing that I would love to see is a more robust wine selection. The server was attentive and made sure to ask if everything was okay several times throughout our visit. Metropolis for the win! I needed a place to celebrate my best friend's birthday prior to a show at St. George's Theatre on a Saturday night in May. We are not from Staten Island and have no idea about the area, so I looked into steakhouses and Metropolis was among the top rated. I simply made a reservation via OpenTable and all was set. Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by the staff. My best friend was running late and we thought we couldn't be seated without a complete party however, the staff were happy to seat us anyway. The restaurant is fairly large and features a bar area with some booth seating, followed by a full dining area in another room. The decor is a bit minimal, it teeters between bar and casual dining establishment depending on which area you step into. Our server came over to greet us within minutes and started us off with drinks. Within a few minutes after, we were offered a basket of freshly baked bread and butter. My best friend eventually made it and we placed our orders. The menu features a variety of Italian-American, seafood, and traditional steakhouse favorites. We started off our meal with drinks. I opted for a peach sangria which was soooo tasty! It seemed to have a peach puree which made the drink a nice texture. For food, we had a mix of appetizers and entrees. I decided on the metro burger with cheddar and steak fries. The burger was seasoned well and the portion was hearty. I wasn't a fan of the fries though. They were plain, lacked crispiness, and a bit too chunky when combined with the whole meal. I think it would've been better with skinny or crinkle cut style fries. Nonetheless, I was satisfied. One of our friends had the Wagyu meatballs and creamed spinach which I tried both of, and found them to be delicious. I especially loved the taste of the creamed spinach. It tasted fresh with a good balance of seasonings. Of note, my best friend had the 'Surf and Turf' meal and ordered her steak well done however, she received it medium. It took us some time to find the waitress and ask her to correct the issue. Other staff helped us but unfortunately, it took 2 tries before they got it right. Nonetheless, my best friend enjoyed her meal and we appreciate their efforts in making it right. To round off the night, we ordered dessert to go however, we didn't try it since we were late for our show. Overall, it was a good meal service. In addition to our server, all of the staff were very inviting and pleasant. Most of them smiled when we crossed paths and took a moment to thank us for coming. That's pretty rare. In addition, pricing was reasonable and a good value. Given the distance, I likely wouldn't return anytime soon however, if or when I'm in Staten Island again, I'll definitely stop by. My husband and I celebrated our 2-year anniversary at Metropolis Steakhouse, just a month before I gave birth to our first son, and it turned out to be such a memorable evening. We had reservations, but it seemed like the restaurant was overbooked, so instead of being seated in the main dining room, we were placed in one of the booths at the bar. At first, it wasn't exactly what we envisioned for such a special occasion, but the cozy atmosphere and overall vibe made it more than okay. Once we were settled, everything else completely exceeded our expectations. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and made us feel well taken care of, even in the busier bar area. And the food? Absolutely outstanding! I ordered the steak and lobster, and it was perfection on a plate. The steak was cooked to a beautiful medium-rare--juicy, tender, and full of flavor--and the lobster was buttery, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The combination of the two made for an indulgent and satisfying meal that I'll never forget. My husband went for the cowboy steak, and he was blown away by how perfectly it was prepared--seared on the outside with that smoky, charred crust but still tender and packed with flavor inside. He paired it with the sweet potato casserole, which he raved about so much that we ended up catering it for Thanksgiving that year! First time there. Place was renovated to have more of a steakhouse feel. Food was good. And service was great. Our waitress was great. I like that the manager came over a few times to check on us. The drink menu was great also. Only reason i am not giving it a 5 star rating: I would recommend a little light music in background, and definitely dim the lights. (I told the owner lol). I had the Tomahawk for 2, cooked to perfection and my friends had the porterhouse for 2 also cooked perfectly..the wedge salad was amazing and for dessert the Rainbow cake was incredible!! prices were reasonable . if I may suggest, maybe increase the price a little to include at least 1-2 sides. I also didn't see mac and cheese on the menu or Garlic mashed? Maybe do away with the onion rings and add string onions? Or sautéed onions and mushrooms? We went here last week with a few friends. The trip on the ferry from nyc was quite enjoyable . Little did we realize that the food that we were about to have would blow our minds. I've been to most steakhouses in NYC and this one is easily among the best in my list of recommendations. The cocktails were amazing - not a single one that I didn't like. Try their sangria cocktails. The steak is really where they stood out. The rib eye was a delicious cut, cooked to the perfect temperature, and with the right amount of marbling. But the wagyu was another level. Never had such a delicious cut before. It practically melts in your mouth. The desserts were delicious too. We got the mousse cake and I'd def recommend that. Their service was excellent and the staff were very good. The ambience was amazing - great atmosphere and nice music. I'll def go back again here. I can't get the wagyu out of my head. The revamped design is nice, gives up a chill steakhouse vibe. Really enjoyed the cooked as asked ribeye steak! The salad was good. The fried calamari was crispy and their spicy marinara. The service is overdone! With waiters, busboys.. chef and a few others coming out just to ask how things are.. was just too much.. once or twice is more then enough. Keeping the tables clean.. and it would help to make sure the waiter and the helpers all work in a team effort rather then individually. Common things on the tables based on dishes can help.. utensils, condiments.. if only certain people has their own task assigned? These are a easy fix! It will bring a better attention to detail. Went to Metropolis Steak restaurant as we rec'd a gift card from our son and we enjoyed every moment of our dinner! The shrimp cocktail appetizer and the wedge salad were so tasty and presented in such a professional manner. We had the very delicious petit filet mignon and it was served on a sizzling hot dish! It continued to cook a little bit as we ate. Our delicious sides were mashed potato and creamed spinach. Kyle was our server and he was so very friendly, just wonderful and very knowledgeable about the menu and the serving sizes. Although the main dining room was kind of small it was perfectly arranged for our private conversations. There's a nice great size bar with a couple booths for eating at as well. I have been to most of the steakhouses in New York several times apiece, so I have a lot to say here. * The Short Version * Metropolis is a fantastic steakhouse that easily holds its own with its peers in Manhattan. The steak, sides, cocktails, desserts, and appetizers are all incredible. If I could give it six stars I would. * The Cocktails * Metropolis boasts a master mixologist, so of course I had a few cocktails. First I had something that I think was called a Tropical Bourbon (can't find a drink menu online). It was topped with a dried lemon slice that they set on fire. A very cool visual, but it was more than that - every time I took a sip, I smelled the charred lemon, totally changing the flavor profile of the cocktail. It was a whole experience, not to mention delicious. After a few of those, I had a couple of Old Fashioneds, which were the best I've had anywhere in years. * The Appetizers * We got a number of appetizers - Kryptonite Candy Bites (pork belly), which was great; calamari, also great; a Caesar salad, which was also great; and the baked clams, which were amazingly delicious. We also ordered penne alla vodka which I did not have, but my friends assured me was also amazing. I didn't eat it because I was of course saving room for... * The Steak * This is really why we trekked out to Staten Island - the steak! We ordered three steaks to share. All the steaks at Metropolis are wet aged and finished with marrow butter & beef tallow, so I was pretty excited to take my first bite. First up was the Cowboy ribeye, their signature steak, cooked medium rare. This steak was incredible - velvety, marbled, and delicious - easily as good as a ribeye at any old New York steakhouse. Next up was the Superman Fillet, cooked rare. Between the quality of the meat and the wet aging, every bite was silky heaven. Saving the best for last, we had the wagyu strip. Eating this steak was a transcendent experience; my taste buds sent me to another plane of existence. I cannot fully describe how insanely delicious this steak was! Get the wagyu, it's worth every penny. * The Sides * As much as the steak was the main event, the importance of good sides cannot be overlooked. We got a tower of onion rings, which were delicious, and creamed spinach, which was absolutely fantastic - creamy, cheesy, and rich. But of course we didn't stop there... * The Dessert * Against all odds, and bellies full of steak, we still ordered some dessert (to share). I'm a chocolate lover, so I convinced everyone to get the chocolate mousse cake. It was a great choice! However, we also got the Italian rainbow cookie cake, which was even more delicious! * The Service * Going to a steakhouse is an experience, and the service is almost as important as the food. Kyle was our server, and he was excellent. Friendly, helpful, and attentive, he made us feel like VIPs. Owners Richie and Sonny also occasionally walked around the dining room introducing themselves and making sure everyone was being taken care of - overall an awesome service experience. * The Atmosphere * One last component to the dining experience is of course the atmosphere. Metropolis has a typical New York steakhouse vibe - quiet and comforting, but with a feeling of luxury. There is also a fun twist to the typical décor though - movies, specifically Superman (as you might notice from the name of the place and some of the names o the dishes). At the bar, instead of sports are playing movies. While I was there, Superman, Jaws, Godfather 2, and Coming to America were all playing. Superman and other movie memorabilia hang on the walls. Solid Steakhouse! Went there last Friday with my boy and we indulged ourselves to a good steak. The place is Irish pub look alike with a very cozy type of ambiance. The staff is friendly as well. For appetizer we had the bacon slab which was freaking delicious and for main entrance we got the aged Porterhouse for two with fries. The quality of the cut was terrific and cooked medium to perfection but needed a little bit of salt to be honest (on the bland side). Also it was smaller than I expected for a Porterhouse for two comparing to Steakhouses in Manhattan and Brooklyn. And please teach the guy with the long mustache that brought our food that he should explain the cut (two sides of the meat) and serve the guests their first piece of meat like any other steak house of the same echelon. Went tonight for the first time & wasn't sure what to expect being the place is so new. Usually I like to give a new place time to iron out any kinks that are common when opening. I was pleasantly surprised. We made the mistake of over ordering, two appetizers, two sides & a steak each. The bacon slab appetizer was phenomenal & it would've been perfect...but our eyes were bigger than our stomachs & we also got the Wagu meatball appetizer, which was also very good, but in my opinion, not the best pairing or good before a steak, but that's on me. I ordered the cowboy ribeye & if anyone remembers that opening scene from The Flintstones when the car tipped over after the food came out, that what it reminded me of. Both steaks were huge! And gorgeous!!!! Now, we were, at this point, kind of full from our appetizers, but did that stop us from diving in head first??? Hell no!!!! My ribeye was so tender & cooked to medium rare perfection! When I put the first bite into my mouth, angels sang!!!! Heaven opened up & I could hear harps playing. I don't remember much after that! I finally decided to hold onto my last shred of dignity & ask that it be packed to go. I am now salivating as I think of the amazing lunch we will feast on tomorrow!!! For sides we got the sweet potato casserole & creamed spinach, both excellent. In short, this place is NOT for the feint of heart! If you're a true carnivore who takes their steaks seriously, you owe it to yourself to try this place. Bit of advice, while you'll be tempted to overdo it with the appetizers, I suggest you order conservatively. Choose your favorite & share it. (You can always try something else next time). You want to be ready for your amazing entree, which should practically be a religious experience, if you don't overdo the apps like we did! On a side note, our server Kyle, was attentive, professional & really hit the whole experience out of the park. The rest of the floor staff were on top of their game & on point. To sum up, if you're jonesing for a good steak, give this place a try. **Edited to add** While I do not give 5 stars generously, most of my favorites get 4 stars, I was on the fence here, and since giving 4.5 wasn't an option, I went with 5 because the few minor issues during our dinner were immediately rectified by our server, who went out of his way to make things right. The onion rolls were delicious. The bacon was my favorite I have tried at a steakhouse. Steak sauce was great, almost wish it came out with the steak itself. Everyone enjoyed their steak. I did order mine medium well, and it came out almost raw, which my friend said happened to her as well when she went. The staff quickly corrected it. So had dinner tonight at 7pm with my wife. Tried the bacon, absolutely phenomenal! The delmonico rib eye was cooked perfectly at medium rare, sides were creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, silky smooth and delicious. Good list of cocktails and wine list. Simply the BEST !! Why would anyone go to NYC when the best steaks are right here on SI. Came in on Thursday night and was quickly met as soon as entered.Danielle our server was super polite and friendly. Gave us some great options(for the newbies). Have been there half dozen times and FOOD IS AMAZING !!! Table of 4 got the baked clams(unbelievable), bacon slices(not to fatty and sauce to die for), the special fried calamari(cooked to perfection). For dinner 3 ribeyes and a NY strip.
