I give stars based on the kind of restaurant they're trying to be. A hot dog stand can receive more stars but doesn't make it a better place. It makes it a quality hot dog stand. This place is trying to be an upscale restaurant. The caesar salad had no taste, I struggled through half. Now it sounds crazy but they had pizza on the menu. I wasn't going to order one until I saw Bar Pie. i haven't had a great bar pie since I moved to NJ from NY. I asked the server is it a real bar pie and he said absolutely. I then asked how large is it as bar pies are generally around 12". His response was 6 slices. Now it may be me , but when I ask how large a pie is and the response is the number of pieces it hits a nerve. My response was I can cut a 6" pie into 6 pieces or an 18" into 6 pieces. He made a motion with his hands of about 12". It was a small regular tasteless $19 pizza not a bar pies. My wife had some baked clams, they were ok and a stuffed artichoke, definitely nothing special. read more

Amazing as usual! All of the staff are so wonderful and so nice. The food was great as usual, super fresh and came out quickly. The lamb special was really good and so was the penne vodka! Not pictured was the calamari and baked clams that we got as appetizers which were cooked to perfection! We ended the night with dessert which was equally as delicious! I got the penne Luna, overall I liked the sauce a lot and the shrimp. I did not like the chicken breast stuffed with asparagus. I don't know if it was because we ordered takeout but it was soggy. EDIT: I initially left a two star review, but instead of addressing the feedback with professionalism, the owner chose to insult me over a simple typo (confusing asparagus with artichoke). To question a customer's credibility over a minor error is shocking to me. read more

We haven't been here in a while but glad we returned. The house sangria to start while we waited for another couple were very good and had a few more just because . For appetizers we had zucchini flowers and steamed calamari. The flowers were good just a bit too much breading . But the calamari were tasty with true marinara sauce to dip. Main course I had the seafood risotto. And wife had flounder oreganato. We enjoyed both and had some left over to take home as the servings are a good size. The waiter was great. The only thing about the night was the air conditioning wasn't set very high and we were a bit uncomfortable since it was very humid outside. Other than that we would come back again. You can find solid, reliably good Italian food here. We have been to Cafe Luna several times over the years but recently ordered takeout for the first time (rather than dining there.) Everything we ordered was packed up nicely and tasted great. Try the baked calamari. It may not sound exciting compared to the fried version but is covered with breadcrumbs before baking and is very tasty! They are currently doing outdoor dining with tents, indoor dining, and takeout during COVID. read more

Surprisingly nice for a strip mall restaurant. White tablecloths are a classy touch. We split some excellent appetizers and a pizza that satisfied us for lunch. What a disappointed from service to delivery of food. We started tonight with a drink order that came out close to our food and ran out of water and no refills despite request. I have a dairy allergy and ordered chicken cacciatore special with vegetable side. The waitress appeared a tuned to my allergy, which was appreciated. My son and husband were served meals and I was brought 3 dishes that weren't mine ( fish / chicken parm and a masala). My dish finally arrives : chicken in brown gravy ( not cacciatore) with mushrooms and mash potatoes. Super consistent and delicious Italian food! I frequently order their cold octopus salad, as well as their fish salad. Both are always light and fresh! Their escarole and beans is very good (heavy with garlic, fyi) and their pasta fagioli is delicious! I think the top item here has to be the pizza. Very reasonable lunch special on Hylan Blvd! Coworkers ordered eggplant parm which came with a sautéed spinach on the side. I ordered a chicken frances which paired with spinach on the side as well. The reviews are confusing me. I used to dine here years ago and it was really good. I loved the pizza, the sauce was absolutely incredible and the bread was to die for. I am not sure what changed. The last time we are here not only was the pasta overcooked, the sauce was bitter, the bread seemed to be recycled and our server was very rude to us. We actually had eye rolls and huffs. Love this place!!!!! Been going here for some special occasions every so often when we get the chance. The staff always knows the family's and has us a table ready before we even walk in! The waiter we usually have ( if he's there) swings by and asks for our appetizers and already has them written down and confirms if that's what we want! I have been to the 2 of their 3 locations and may I say the experience, staff, and food was the best. Last night I went to the Hylan location for my birthday and was lucky to have the owner, Alessandro Nuccio as my server. It was my birthday and just wanted something small, he was so kind and runs the place so well. He also is an exceptional bartender too!! I had the chicken rollatini in a masala sauce, which was one of the specials. The best rollatini I've ever had. Of course at the end of dinner the staff sang to me which was so sweet. They brought out their tiramisu and it was absolutely amazing, definitely my favorite one I've found. Overall, Cafe Luna has amazing service and excellent food. Eggplant rollatini app for $6. Veal marsala w/ spaghetti for $9. OMG! The eggplant has just the right amount of succulent sauce with small soft chunks of tomato and the lightly breaded eggplant was perfect along with just enough ricotta and mozzarella to keep me wanting more. The veal was pressed thin I thought it was going to dissolve in my mouth the spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente while the mushrooms did an amazing tongue dance and the sauce was divine. I could hardly wait to recommend this to my yelp friends. The only problem that I see is a need for more home made bread to soak up both the gravy's. This is my favorite Italian restaurant on Staten Island. There brick oven pizza is absolutely amazing. The rest of there appetizers are out of this world.
