My dentist Dr. Kim and the dental hygienists I saw were great (Mario is so nice!). I had a cleaning and x-rays, then came back for follow-up work. I appreciated how clear the dentist was about what was urgent vs. what was aesthetic or could happen later. I found the front desk to be super helpful and comprehensive in giving me information on the costs and what my new insurance would cover before I scheduled. Dental insurance is always confusing, so having them confirm and explain in advance was really nice. The office is nice, clean, and you can watch Netflix during longer appointments (a nice distraction). There is some construction in the reception area right now, but it didn't impact my visit. In both visits, Dr. Kim was excellent. She is very empathetic and took time to explain to me what was going to happen / how long things would take / etc. read more

I scheduled an emergency appointment because I was in significant pain. The dentist identified the problem through X-rays, and I appreciated the cleaning that was performed. What I don't appreciate is learning after my exam and cleaning that the provider needed to perform the recommended treatment wasn't even in the office. That is information I should have been given before I took time off work and came in for an emergency appointment. I left with a diagnosis, cleaner teeth, yes...and the exact same pain I arrived with. This was my first visit, and that wasn't my only issue. I was perplexed as to why I was forced to put a debit card on file when I wasn't using a debit card to pay for my visit. If your office cannot provide definitive treatment during an emergency visit because the necessary provider isn't available, patients deserve to know that before they arrive, especially when the whole purpose of the visit was an emergency. read more

Been here a couple of times and have had good interactions with most of the workers. I've had issues in the past with dentists offering me unnecessary service to make money, but these guys are honest. They told me the truth and haven't offered anything unnecessary. My low rating only stems from one Russian hygienist who was incredibly rough and slightly rude when I went in for my cleaning. If I ever get her again I will immediately ask for someone else. Terrible, stay away. One of the dentist replaced one of my fillings and mistakenly drilled too deep causing me to need a root canal. Dentist never owned up to the mistake, just claimed he didn't know what was wrong. Fast forward 5 months, the office auto enrolled me into a cleaning appointment that I never made. I texted them and said they made it by mistake and they continued to call me the day before my appointment to tell me I still had the appointment and that I couldn't cancel it without paying $50 cancellation fee. They finally waved it after spending 5 minutes too long on the phone being told that I made the appointment and I never responded to their text saying it was a mistake. See photo of my text... If a patient says they never made the appointment it's probably best to assume they never did and just cancel the appointment without fighting me on it. Which is fine but they brought in Emmy. Who Im assuming is Part of their finance department. She came in with an orthopedic agreement which ill be posting later. The billing department at this place is awful. You'll learn that things that are covered under your policy (and in fact things they tell you are covered when you visit) were not covered by insurance and that you have to pay for them when you visit the next time. This has happened twice to me now - something as simple as a routine cleanup (that 100% should be covered) as well as dental X-rays. The worst part? You'll be notified about these billing issues the next time you visit and not in a timely manner so that you can help figure out what the issue was with the insurance It's a shame because the quality of care here is good read more

I had a terrible experience here in 2021. This office is fear-mongering, money-hungry, and hires inexperienced dentists. During my time going to this practice, Dr. Kim replaced 3 amalgam fillings and did 1 new filling. I had to get 2 of the 4 fillings she performed redone by other dentists at the practice, because Dr. Kim had missed a crack during the amalgam replacement and had allowed water to enter another filling. One of the dentists also tried to sell me on a $700 porcelain filling as a solution. The practice also insisted that I need a tooth extraction and implant with a quote around $6000. The tooth was not causing me any pain and I had no symptoms. However, Dr. Kim insisted that the matter was so urgent that it was dangerous for my 5-month-old baby for me to continue breastfeeding while the infection was untreated. I got a second opinion from another dentist who said I did not have any signs of infection, did not need a tooth extraction, and that it sounded like the other practice I saw was "reaching" for work. I really wanted to like this place; the hygienists were great and the front office staff was always helpful, but I suggest looking elsewhere for dental work. read more

Something has happened to this practice over the course of the past couple of years. I've been coming here for about six years now and really did love the practice. Since they've grown they seem to have a lot of problems. My last visit I had to wait a while, and then I could tell the hygienist was rushing through and she tore my gums and left them bleeding for days. I have never felt more pain from a cleaning than I did that day. I decided since I've been going to this practice for so long to give them yet another try. This time around they called me a day before my appointment to ask me to come in 15 minutes earlier which I said was fine. I proceed to wait over 30 minutes (even though they asked me to come in earlier - like why????) Then another patient comes in saying his appointment isn't for another 15 mins, yet they immediately call him in for his cleaning. At which point i just left. Do yourself a favor and don't let the fancy looking office fool you. Go to a practice that doesn't tear through your mouth because they're rushing for more appointments, also has better patient service. read more

This is my first time ever writing a bad review! And I want to make clear that I have nothing to say about the dentists and their assistants neither the receptionist Monica who was very professional and helpful. This review is solely based on my experience with the billing department and the manager Dvora Biderman. I have never felt so disrespected and insulted like that before. My treatment plan wasn't matching with what I was charged and I called them to try to understand why. The person in charge, Mrs. Dvora Biderman , sounded like she was having a bad day from the beginning and was not willing to help me at all! I finished the call with her and called my insurance to try to understand what went wrong. They told me that the dentist who provided me with treatment was out of network and for that reason I wasn't covered 80% as it showed on my treatment plan. I was never told that my dentist was out of network so I called them back and informed Ms. Dvora what they've told me and she said she could not do anything about it and hang up on me after putting me on hold. I have a very thick south American accent and I feel like Ms. Dvora got very frustrated about not being able to easily understand me and threw a "clearly you don't know how insurance company works". At this point my Latina blood just boiled up to my head and after many back and forth with Ms. Dvora talking over me I decided to leave them a honest review. At the end of the day I called them back with all the informations I've collected from a 40 minutes call with my insurance company and Ms. Dvora threatened me saying that she would only call the insurance to fix the mistake if I took the review down! She said in those words "I have no obligation to help you" and would only do it with that condition. I was in shock! Like literally in shock! I'm honestly still very sad about all of this interaction with Ms. Dvora. She was beyond unnecessary and mean! It turned out that the Metropolitan Dental Arts gave me the wrong estimated cost for my treatment. They never apologized, never gave my money back and I'm left with half of the treatment done. So BE AWARE!! This clinic will do everything to overcharge you and if you try to question them that's the response you'll get from them. I switched jobs recently, which means my dental insurance also switched. After searching through my new insurance's portal for a new provider, I found Metropolitan Dental Arts. I always make sure to cross check a new provider with Yelp, so after checking out their glowing reviews, I decided to give them a shot. I had a great experience from beginning to end. First off, I emailed the office to double check they still carried my insurance and was promptly emailed back, confirmed my coverage, and was able to book me an appointment for the following week. The office itself is pretty standard for a dentist's office. For new patients, you should arrive a couple minutes early to fill out the "paperwork" on an iPad. I waited maybe 5 minutes and was taken back to my room at the start of my appointment time. My dental hygienist, Helen, went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and informed with what she was doing. She even taught me the correct way to floss. Before she did the cleaning, she took pictures of my mouth with a small camera, which I'd never seen before. At the end of the appointment, the dentist reviewed the pictures with me, it was pretty cool. Pretty much every other experience I've had with a dentist is about 3 minutes in length and a bit rushed. Not the experience with Dr. Turchiano. He spent, what I felt was, adequate time with me asking questions and my dental history, looking at my teeth, and reviewing the x rays and pictures taken earlier. It was a pleasant surprise. I left the appointment feeling clean AND informed about my dental health, which was cool. A great experience all around. One thing that did throw me off was $150 (or something around that amount) fee for a missed appointment or rescheduling 48 hours before -- I totallyyy get that there are fees for that type of thing, it just felt a bit steep and seeing that during my initial intake form made me a bit hesitant... because life happens. Other than that, I'd highly recommend this dentist office for anyone in the Williamsburg area. Ready for my next cleaning. read more

The dentist is great--but if you have insurance, beware their front office staff. I could go on forever but I'll try to keep it brief: My insurance changed in 2020, after my mom died and I lost my coverage under her. I provided the front desk staff with my new dental insurance card shortly after a visit in November of 2020. I never heard a thing from them until a Collections Notice email in October of 2021, asking me to pay the whole bill. I immediately called the front desk and they said that when they ran the claim, my insurance stated I was ineligible--only it turns out they were *still* using my late mom's insurance card. Again I provided my correct insurance card, and again I got radio silence until another Collections Notice email in December. After a ridiculous back and forth, it turns out the front desk STILL was not using the correct insurance; they had, every time, been submitting my claim to the insurance I previously had under my late mom. It took me correcting the claim, detail by detail, before they got it right, despite my having provided them with the correct information from the start. What would have been a basic procedure at any other doctor became a year long debacle. Not once did they apologize for or acknowledge their error. Their emails were nearly incoherent. They refused to call the insurance provider line, as any other medical office would. If you're looking for a seamless insurance experience, or for basic human decency, this is not the place for you. read more

When I tried to check in, the receptionist told me I was double booked. She blamed Zocdoc and said they've been having trouble. They mis-charged me and gave me false information about my coverage. To start off I do have to applaud how beautiful and clean the dentist office was. My service was great and went smoothly however it was not until 6 months after my visit that the problems began. My visit was in May of 2021 and I paid my bill at the office as I normally do. I would receive text regularly from the office inviting me to come back in for another cleaning even though I was very clear that this would be my only visit as my dental coverage would be done at the end of the month. Then I received a text (in December 2021) saying I had an outstanding balance with them that needed to be paid. I thought it was odd but was going to wait until I received a bill in the mail to see what I was being charged for. About a week had past and I had still not received any bills in the mail and I got another text, on December 14th, saying my outstanding balance on my account would be sent to collections at the end of the month it would be sent to collections. So I went to the link they provided me to see my balance and it was over $450. Not knowing what these charges were for I called to request an itemized bill. They charged were for a cleaning and a night guard my insurance would not cover. I knew this was not correct because my insurance referred me to them so I knew the basic cleanings should be covered and when I was in office they had called my insurance to see if the night guard would be covered and they said it would be covered at 80% meaning I would have to pay $150 out of pocket. I called the dentist office back and questioned why my cleaning would not be covered they admitted they had made a mistake and wrote in the wrong code for the the cleaning and they would fix their mistake and I would not be charged for that. Then I called my insurance about the night guard and they explained that they never confirm coverage over the phone. So when they came to me that day in the office and told me I would be covered at 80% I feel like they were. trying to bait and switch me knowing once I took home the night guard I would not be able to get a refund. I also find it extremely weird that they would only send me a text about my outstanding account and never send an email or letter in the mail. What if I had changed my number or was not vert tech savvy. $450 is not a small chunk of money and it is odd that they expect people to pay that via a thurd party site that gives you no information about where the charges are coming from. read more

The receptionist scheduled it and charged me for the filling after I clearly said to them at reception I do not want the fillings. As someone who never misses a day of brushing teeth and flossing, I found the need for fillings ridiculous. I was harassed on the phone and through email by the terrible office manager and receptionist, all for asking them to right their wrong of refunding something I did not want. All I can say is I am happy I came across this office, and met Dr. Helller. He is extremely personable and knowledgable. I have never felt so comfortable with a dentist before. I had been seeing my old dentist in the area for the last 10+ years, but recently had begun having some problems, and went to metropolitan to get a second opinion. Dr. Heller took a detailed medical/dental history, and some new xrays for me. After going over my treatment plan with the doctor, it was apparent that there was alot more options for me then I had discussed with my old dentist. My former dentist is closer to retirement which makes me weary about if he know about all the new modern options I learned about with Dr. Heller. His office is clean and up to date. Its easy to make appointments through the website so I didn't even need to call. If you area looking for a clean modern office with a younger intelligent dentist, I would stop in here. read more

I had a poor experience here, pretty much ruined my day. I have used the services here for about a year and a half. The receptionist frequently failed to provide basic information and was rude on most visits, I have witnessed her be this way this with other patients as well. However, all 3 dentists that worked with me are pretty good, the dental assistants are very helpful, which is why I went back. At my most recent visit, the receptionist failed to communicate essential information about procedures & insurance coverage. Rather than resolving the matter, the office manager raised her voice, threatened & harassed me for money when I asked her to send me the bill. The manger did apologize after I reiterate the fact that they had failed to communicate with me, but her demeanor clearly showed she could clear less. When my dentist retired I decided to try this practice and found their service really impersonal but during the pandemic wasn't up for shopping around for a new dentist. Note that you will not see the same dentist/hygienist across visits. I made an appoint for a follow up visit to perform some basic tooth fillings and they covered costs which were agreeable to me. On the morning of my appointment, I received a text at 7:30am for a 9:45am appointment requiring I sign a waiver giving up my medical rights prior to service. The waiver says you essentially are relinquishing your rights if you end up with nerve damage among other things. When I called inquiring why this was not presented to me when I was in their office a week ago, they had no response. Moreover they made signing a condition of getting service. If I refuse, they would charge me a late cancellation $400 fee! I plan to fight this but want to warn anyone that is considering going here of this unethical practice. Uploading images of the waiver as evidence. I know people suffering from nerve damage and it is no joke. No one should be signing this agreement. I went to Metropolitan Dental Arts for the first time for my annual cleaning and the hygienist was competent but not very friendly. That's fine. My issue is with the incorrect diagnosis by Dr. Heller. He identified 6 cavities that he wanted to fill as soon as possible and said that I was on the verge of many more. As someone who has had two fillings in my whole life and takes very careful care of my teeth, this came as bit of a shock. Went for two additional opinions elsewhere and they found no cavities or "almost cavities" at all. I might add that the front desk was kind while scheduling my appointments and kept pointing out my great insurance that covered 100% of the procedures, but now see that this office is greedy and willing to unnecessarily drill into people's mouths for money. read more
