Normally, I don't write negative reviews, but I'm still dealing with the effects of this experience, so I feel it's important to share. I went to Metropolitan Nail Bar for a dip polish removal and a new dip manicure. During the removal process, the technician left acetone on my nails for over an hour without checking on them, while working on other clients. My nails began to burn and became very painful. When she returned to remove the remaining polish, I told her it was hurting, but she didn't acknowledge or respond. She then aggressively filed the tops of my nails, to the point where they felt extremely thin, sensitive, and were burning. When applying the new color, there was a noticeable line between where the polish was and wasn't applied. I pointed this out, and she seemed visibly frustrated. Although she added more color, her tone and demeanor came across as annoyed and dismissive. For the next two days, my nails continued to burn, but I was too worried to use more acetone to fix anything, so I left them alone. Once my nails started to grow out, I went to my usual salon to have the dip removed. As I suspected, my nail beds had been filed down excessively. There is now a clear difference between the new growth and the previously filed areas, and my nails are now weak and breaking. Overall, this was a painful experience with lasting damage to my nails. I tried this spot for the first time and I was impressed. The salon is just a quick walk from Pentagon City Mall so u popped by to see if I could do a walk in appointment. Everyone was very friendly and I was able to get in and out in a reasonable amount of time. The space was bright, welcoming, and very clean. Tim was my nail tech and he really understood the design I wanted and made sure I was happy. He also does a really great pedicure! He was kind and made my nails look amazing. Absolutely do not recommend. Overpriced pedicures aren't worth the price the prices are incorrect in the pamphlet they hand you when you ask for the prices and options. Then, when I pointed out that they are charging me more than the pamphlet explained, they said "oh those are old prices." I left without getting a gel manicure bc of that. The atmosphere is cold and not comfortable. My gel pedicure did not even last 2 days. By time I got to the fashion show, my toenails already were chipped. And I got a gel pedicure. I made an appointment for 7 kid manicures for my daughter's birthday and if you have a kid who likes to be pampered, you have to bring them here. Everyone is so nice and friendly and all the nail techs are so sweet! They were able to accommodate all of the girls in our party and they even played happy birthday which made my daughter feel so special. All the girls loved picking their own nail colors - they have an extensive array of choices, lots of pink and lots of glitter too. The girls all loved their manicures and their nails all turned out great. They were all so happy and had a wonderful time! Five stars for everything. Great value and very reasonably priced for the area. They treat kids well and the vibe in the salon is so nice. We will definitely be back, but next time for the moms! This salon would be a great choice for a mommy and me date as well. Bring cash for tips but for the service you can pay with card or even Apple Pay- very convenient. They do have an ATM too if you need. We walked but there is easy street parking or you can pay to park in the lot behind the salon. I booked a nail appointment for 9:30 AM today and I get there after my service was confirmed, and they are closed and on their window. It says they don't open until noon. I am trying to call, but they are not picking up because they are closed. Just so everyone is aware, I booked this appointment online and their website states that you can have an appointment as early as 930 on each day, however, according to their door, it does not open until 10 so I will not be returning to this place because they are extremely unclear and unreliable. read more

I just left here and would not recommend it at all. I got a regular pedi and a gel mani and was done and out the door in 40 minutes exactly (note the menu says a basic pedicure should take 30 minutes alone and mine was 15). It was very rushed and there was no attention to detail whatsoever, evidenced by the fact that I was only given half of my allotted/paid for time. In fact during my manicure I actually had to ask him to let me dry each set as I thought it lasted longer when it's dry, as he kept pulling my hands out before they were dry. I've been getting my nails done pretty consistently every two weeks for years so I know what to expect and this place is not worth your money. On the way out I expressed my disappointment and they honestly couldn't have cared less either. My manicurist actually tried to say I had been there for an hour until I showed him proof I sat down at 10:18 and was done at 10:58. He further said he let me dry each set and I pointed out that was only after I asked! TLDR: there are plenty of other places around here that would appreciate your business and not rush you out the door. Will not be returning here nor recommending it to others. read more

Oh boy, I fell victim to Google reviews, which are VERY different from YELP reviews. I went in for a simple gel manicure. I was talked into a dip manicure --which, I should've known better--but I was absolutely persuaded because this woman Christine was highly recommended on Google. To be fair, she was very nice and did a solid job, but my dip nail has failed only one week later (im so mad because my gel nails have always lasted a minimum of two weeks ). I'm sorry, but I can't recommend this place. And honestly, in my recent experience, everyone should just get regular manicure and find someone who knows how to do it. read more

This nail salon is hit or miss! I went one time to get the dips on my nails. The manicurist was great and they looked really good for about three weeks. The chrome I had on my nails also stayed on. I went back and got a different person and the dip was chipping within two days. When I went back they said it was probably the dip powder, but wanted me to use the same stuff for the repair. I went again for a dip manicure and they did not put a base coat and my nails with the dip chipped again within two days! I will never go back there and they are super expensive. Do not waste your money getting your nails done at this place. I wish I took a picture of my last dip pedicure because it was bad and the picture would deter anyone from going there. For starters, I was recommended this establishment by one of my close friends and never would I ever have gone in thinking that the service would have been anything less than great. For starters, I first got a pedicure. I am a dancer and I've gotten pedicures my whole life and any time going anywhere else nobody has ever made me feel some type of way when caring for my callus. And while caring for my cuticles.. instead of cutting (the way every other professional nail place ive been to) he starts jabbing at my cuticle.. with the cuticle clipper. It hurt like hell and when I winced or tried to pull my feet back not once did he consult with me or ask if it was hurting. Both of my big toes were bleeding (no way he did not notice btw) He then went to cut my toenails. asking which shape i wanted, I told him straight. For some reason my big toe was cut at a harsh diagonal Which i assumed he would fix and when he didnt i asked for it to be adjusted he replied "my toenail goes crooked". I asked him to cut it anyway because what kind of logic is that. Onto the application of the gel it seemed like a very sloppy initial job where the gel was somehow getting in the middle of my foot and he would wipe it off. Again he was very rough and would grab my foot harshly to move me rather than just asking me to move. Onto the nails.. I was skeptical about allowing Tim to continue my service keeping all prior in mind.. but I had an event to attend later in the day and was hopeful that feet simply just werent his specialty. I had gotten my last gel X set removed which I was already sad to see go as my last technician (not at metropolitan) did a fantastic job. He filed my nails/ removed the rest and asked me repeatedly what shape i wanted on my nails to which i replied almond. I wanted almond shape nails with a french tip added. since getting gel X, my nails had grown out sufficiently, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to test his ability. but I decided that I believe there is no way you could mess up that badly working in a setting like this. I was wrong. as he applied the nail tips, he not once checked for sizing between my nails. As he filed my nails, I began to worry if the outcome would be worth the money I was about to spend. For the nude color of the nail, he initially tried to get me to choose a very light pink that would most likely normally be used on European skin. For context, I am an African-American woman. I asked him for a darker shade to achieve, then proceeded to show me a plethora of extremely light shades, which I said no. Finally, he gave up and just handed me a swatch and told me to pick a color that would not be sheer like I wanted. I picked this sufficient color and let him paint my nails to which I now see that there is a bubble on one of my nails. For the French tip, he started with painting, 3/4 of my nail white. This was truly a horror to behold as I've never seen anyone do this technique before. As a concerned, customer, I asked him if it would be smaller than what he had painted on my nail and then he proceeded to show me his "technique"in which he took a brush dipped in acetone and wiped away some access. Immediately I saw and at least two fingers that it was crooked, which I tried to explain to him. He was unable to fix it. Tried to tell me that it was a decent job . Giving up, I told him I would just go with the base color and he horridly finished my job with very little attention. I got out of there as soon as I could after paying and I quickly realized that the shape was not even or consistent between my hands. I would not even go back here for them to fix my nails. The vibe was so uncomfortable. I would much rather spend an additional $70 somewhere else. would not recommend. read more

I really wanted this place to work out for me because it's so conveniently located if you live in Pentagon City. Unfortunately it just wasn't a great experience. Pros: I stopped in for a gel manicure before an event I had to go to. They were busy, but the wait was only aboutt 15 minutes. It's also pretty nice for a walk-in nail salon. Cons: I picked out a color on their color swatch and when the nail tech took me to a station to start my service she couldn't find the actual nail polish bottle that matched the color I picked. No big deal, I just picked another. However, I felt a little rushed so I picked quickly and when she started to apply it I realized it looked terrible--just didn't match my skin tone at all (and a good nail tech would have realized that, I wanted a neutral and it literally looked like mud next to my brown skin). At this point the tech begrudgingly let me grab another color, but told me "not to change my mind again." Now, the only reason this happened was because they didn't have my original color, and she had done nothing to help me find one that was a close match, so I found her attitude annoying. After the color issue was sorted out, I realized she wasn't really following the steps of a manicure--she just quickly filed my nails, soaked them a bit and and started applying polish. I tried to look more closely to see if she was going to do anything else and was going to ask what her plan was, but she just sort of snapped and told me not to move my hands. I was pretty ready to go, so I just let her finish the polish job so I could get out. She didn't talk with me the whole time and just seemed to want to get done as quickly as possible. The polish job ended up looking like something I could have done at home (minus the gel polish). Then, when she was finished, she actually had the nerve to tell me my nails would have looked better if I had gotten a full manicure, which is what I asked for in the first place!! I didn't even realize anyone would want the gel polish without a full manicure. Really annoying. When I checked out, the guy working the front desk reduced my bill from a manicure to just "gel polish," but it really felt like a waste. My nails really looked like the tech had done the bare minimum to get me out of the salon. The tech did become friendlier as I was leaving when she saw I left a tip (which I tend to do even if the service isn't amazing) and asked me to come back in for a full manicure. However, I think it's safe to say I won't be returning. Bottom line: This place is tempting, its in a prime location. But, if you can, try to find somewhere else with better service. read more

My experience was ok. I walked in two hours early to book a last minute appointment and was glad they could accommodate me. I specifically wanted sculpted nails and asked who did them. I'm very particular about my nails and usually opt to doing them myself but it's my birthday so I decided to treat myself. I had Tim, he was quick and the shape of the nail is amazing but the structure is too thin and will compromise my natural nails, which I told him. I asked him several times to build the apex (the stress point of the nail) so that I don't engineer myself. He was clearly irritated and I told him, if he can't do it, it's ok I'll just do the pedicure. He insisted and I let him. Fast forward to pedicure, it was rushed and he nicked me a bit because of it. Beware of this establishment! I've visited a few times, but my last two experiences were by far the worst service I've ever had. I will never return. Today, I came in for a pedicure with Tim, and it was a disaster. Right from the start, I specifically told him not to cut my nails--just to file them--since I have small nail beds and didn't want them shorter. But despite my request, he started trimming them. When I reminded him to stop, it was too late--he had already cut them way too short. I was furious. Then, I politely asked him to be careful with my cuticles, explaining that I typically don't get them cut. He insisted on removing an ingrown nail, even though I didn't have one! To make matters worse, he started using cuticle nippers to "clean" my nails, which I told him was painful and not the right tool for that. He ignored me until I had to pull my foot away and ask again. Next, he cut into my toe, supposedly to fix an ingrown nail, but instead he cut a chunk of skin off my nail bed, causing it to bleed. He wasn't even going to do anything until I asked him to at least apply some alcohol. As if that wasn't bad enough, when it came time for the leg scrub, he didn't rinse it off properly before applying oil, leaving residue behind my knees. I pointed it out, but he still didn't fully rinse it off. It was gross and uncomfortable. The whole experience was not only painful and frustrating but also unsanitary. There was no need to rush--there was only one other customer, so I don't understand why I was treated like my business didn't matter. I left in tears, feeling upset and in pain from the injury to my toe. Now for my service with Ivy on September 5... On September 5, I had one of the worst experiences at this establishment during my gel manicure appointment with Ivy. From the moment I arrived, I felt rushed. Ivy hurried me to choose a color and was rough during the gel polish removal, which ended up damaging my natural nails. Rather than allowing enough time for the gel polish to soak off properly, she used unnecessary force to scrape it off. To make matters worse, Ivy was also working on another walk-in client during my appointment. I understand if you're running behind, but if that's the case, a simple heads-up would have been appreciated. It's frustrating when my scheduled appointment time isn't respected. When it came time to apply the gel polish, she rushed through that as well, doing a poor job. She even hurried me through the UV light drying process, despite my concerns that it might not be enough time for the polish to fully set. She brushed off my worries, claiming it was "enough time," but sure enough, my nails have already started peeling just one day later. Overall, I'm incredibly disappointed with the service and cannot recommend Ivy to anyone. read more
