After looking around for a shop to fix the rusted out bit in my exauhst line I decided on Mex Mufflers, and I'm glad I did! Got there right at 8 when they open, like other reviews suggested and my car was up on the lift in less than 5 min. I got to take a look at what was wrong and got the estimate right there,$90 total to replace the resonator. After I gave the go-ahead it was a super quick fix. In and out in just under half an hour from pulling into the lot to driving away. My car now runs nice and quiet! Quick, inexpensive and easy! And on top of all of that, the part has a 1 year warranty. I'll be returning if I ever have any other exauhst problems guaranteed. read more

Mex Mufflers on park st is an absolute rip-off. My 65-year-old mother took her car there, describing a loud noise on the freeway and lagging acceleration when pressing on the gas. Without even test driving the car to properly diagnose the issue, they claimed the muffler was the problem due to a slightly open seal and charged her an outrageous $360 for a new one. They even showed us the muffler, which was perfectly fine--just a tiny hole and a slightly open seal that could have continued to be used without any issue. They never drove the car after the so-called "repair" to confirm it was fixed, and unsurprisingly, the issues persist. It's clear they preyed on an older woman who trusted them, just to make a quick buck. Avoid this place at all costs--these people are untrustworthy and only care about taking your money. read more

Will never go back! Traveled the day after having brakes changed and the wheel flew off on the highway. Thank the Lord my family didn't get hurt but caused $4000 in damage to our car. Had to find a tire shop and were told that the lug nuts weren't properly torqued. We contacted Mex Mufflers and the manager and owner would not take responsibility and repair our car. These guys were great! I pulled up at 9am, they had my car on the lift in 10 minutes and had a quote for me. I also asked if they'd be able to install my rear springs which I had already purchased, they said sure (typical commercial shops won't let you bring your own parts)! It was all done in a few hours at a stunning price. These guys will actually REPAIR (weld) your exhaust instead of quoting you for replacing with factory/aftermarket parts which saves $$$$$. I tell all my friends to go to Mex Muffler. The customer service is really nice and the mechanics take the time to explain the repairs needed and are transparent with pricing. They've even told me I could bring my own parts (don't ask me which ones because I don't remember lol) which would reduce the repair cost. I ended up going with their repair pieces each time which was pretty much market price. I check repair quotes with the internet and my car-knowledgeable friends and they've been impressed with Mex Muffler's repair prices. Something to know though is that Mex Muffler is first come first serve. I have gone first thing in the morning and been 8th in line and 1st and only in line and out in 30 mins. It's impossible to predict how long you'll have to wait so have a friend or Uber on standby to drop off your car. Thank you to the folks at Mex Muffler! You all are great! read more

Of all the places I have been in Madison WI this place was by far the most accommodating. I wasn't told to come back or book an appointment two weeks out or any of the other shenanigans I've encounter. You let me down, Mex Muffler!!! I was all ready to give a great review for MM. Their oil changes are dirt cheap and they fixed my loud muffler. Muffle repair+oil change was less than $100. At my last oil change, however, they did not tighten the drain cap enough, and as a result, all my oil leaked out. I returned to MM with my complaint and they will contact their Chicago office to possibly write me a check as a refund for the oil change (I don't know if that will actually happen, or when). I've heard of these kinds of errors at oil change places before, but I didn't think it'd happen to me. I don't know if it's more or less likely to occur at a different oil change place, but I am wary of MM now. read more

After having good luck with exhaust work done by Mex Muffler, I decided to have my front suspension worked on. Sway bars, struts, and tie rods, all done quickly and at what I imagine was a good price. What was not done, was wheel alignment afterwards, nor was I informed that i needed to do that. One month later, my new front tires are totally bald on the outside, and when I brought my complaint and receipt to Mex Muffler, they simply said sorry and walked away. Now I need new tires, and a wheel alignment. I will no longer trust their work ethic, and will no longer recommend. read more

Fantastic service done by really nice people. Fixed the exhaust (flex pipe, 4 hangars), plus a wheel bearing AND a motor mount on my older car. Did it right, did it fast. Total cost: $380. The garage down the street from me wanted $700 just for the exhaust work, and would have needed to keep the car overnight. Brought the car in at 8 AM when Mex Muffler opened, they had the exhaust and wheel bearing fixed 2 hours later, but then discovered the problem with the motor mount, showed it to me, sure enough, it was broken. Since the mount wasn't in their original quote, they only charged for parts. And had it done an hour later. Repairs were done, paid for, and I was out the door before noon. Amazing. Their system is a little different from other garages. No reservations, first come, first served. You give the person at the front desk the keys, tell them the general problems, they put the keys with a sticky note. A mechanic comes in within 10 minutes, takes the keys and sticky note, then come back a little while later to tell you and show you the exact problems, and give you an estimate of cost and repair time. These are good folks. They do good work. Highly recommended. read more

I came here for the first time today and I'm didn't know what to expect. Upon walking in the door I was greeted with a smile and asked what I needed. I haven't even looked into it yet, in fear of finding out exactly the possibilities of damage, but before I went on a trip to Colorado last week I got my oil changed here. $20. Good price right? Well when you consider the oil filer cap was not replaced after the oil change you might think otherwise. Anyway, that's my story. I don't even think the guys apologized when I went in today to show them the situation. This place was regarded as a cheaper option through word of mouth-I work at a cab company and the old mechanic even said it was a cheaper option, and yes for 100.00 they patched my muffler in an hour. You have to get the work done while you wait no appointments btw. Today I sold my car and to my horror the catalytic converter was gone. The buyer of my car owns a car towing company and checked my car's value . This company steals or "does not put " the catalytic converters back on the vehicles they repair. I am unsure what the only other review is about... I took my 2000 Nissan Maxima in upon the recommendation of the man I purchased the car from. I told Victor right away that it ran VERY loud and most likely needed a new front cat and muffler--as I was told when I got an estimate from my usual place; they quoted me 1500 bux! I took it to Mex Muffler today, and they fixed all three of the major problems for well under 300 bux. I expected to pay twice that! They also let me into the shop so I could see for myself what the underside of my car looked like (horrific). They then showed me what they could fix and how much it would be. I went across the street to Barriques to wait... about 2 hours later, Victor called my cell to say they were done. Holy wow, my car runs so, so much better. Actually, the muffler is fine and the front cat is fine. The other shop lied to me. Imagine that, a shop lying in an attempt to garner more money. Oy vey. The kicker? I get a 1 year warranty on the work, and Victor asked me to call him in a week or so to make sure all is well. Why is it so cheap? They bend their own exhaust pipe in-house. I was driving and my muffler fell off in the middle of the road..after dodging traffic to grab it I went to Midas (nearest garage to where I was) and they gave me an estimate of $1200 and said they needed to order parts so it would be a few days. My experience with Mex Mufflers was awful. I took my Camaro in to get a Flowmaster cat back system installed and the mechanic looked at the hardware like it was from the future. He gave me 3 different estimates within half an hour, and then when he was laying the hardware out to see how it is installed he laid it out backwards! Then he told me that since he was unfamiliar with the product (that he is a distributor for) that the job was going to cost more. It is obvious that their knowledge and mechanic skills are very rudimentary. In my opinion all it takes to see how unprofessional these guys are is to walk into their filthy shop and take a look at the hygiene and appearance of the individuals that work there. If you are not on your last nickel and dime I would highly recommend taking your vehicle to somewhere else. read more

I always thought, stupidly, they would be too expensive given the convenient location, and I WAS WRONG. This was the third estimate for an exhaust job on a 98 Lexus, and they were 1/2 the price of other places (Zimbrick, DuBois, Comstock). TRULY HONEST people and GREAT SERVICE. I was looking for an autoshop to fix my car's rear brake as it was leaking brake fluid. Max quoted me $220 for installing new brake pads, replacing brake line and flushing the whole system. It took only an hour and a half in a busy Saturday morning (I was there at 8am and there are already 5 other people in line). I was on my way shortly and really happy about the price since I did exactly the same maintenance about 3 years ago at Firestone near West Towne Mall and Firestone basically ripped me off (over $800) for the same work (and the Firestone technician didn't even bother to refill the brake fluid after that). Last month my wife's car was making a loud noise from the muffler so I called Mex Mufflers for a price quote and the guy quoted between $200-$300. I called other repair shops and they quoted $300-$400. I took the car in and they inspected it and showed me which part needed work. They said they can weld the metal pipe to the muffler. The cost? $50! This morning, my wife's car was making a scratching noise from the muffler. Before I took it in, I examined it and one of rusted bolts holding the metal shield came loose. It was not Mex Muffler's fault. I took it in, and explained the problem. The guy quoted $25, and I said go for it. After the car was fixed, he said, "no charge". I insisted that I compensated him but he said it was an easy fix and he wouldn't take payment. This place has integrity. The wife's car now drives fine. read more
