The hankering for tacos and guacamole came strong last week, and a quick yelp search led me to this unassuming but charming hole in the wall. Small grocery aisles to the right, and the small kitchen/counter area to the left, where I found a seat easily. The very sweet waitress took my order of 3 carne asada tacos with a side order of a large guac & chips. In all fairness, most of the minuses for my visit were due to arriving less than an hour from closing -- the floors were getting cleaned, which perfumed my dining with the scent of ammonia. Also, the meat of the carne asada tacos, while very tasty, were a bit dry and tough. Again, it was last call. What made the meal so memorable, aside from the gentle service, was their guacamole side. At $4.99, it was the most ample serving I've ever had, even at far higher prices. You know how when you order guacamole & chips, you never seem to get enough gaucamole? Not the case here. Flavorful and creamy, with excellent fresh tortilla chips, I'd be happy to return just for them. So overall four stars. But a return visit earlier in the day may warrant a five-star bump-up. read more

If you are part Central American like I am, there are moments when you start to crave certain food from your childhood that are not easily found. The other half of my heritage is Cuban and fortunately, I can find Cuban classics everywhere! Hello Cuban Bakeries and Sedanos. Mexican Supermarket is small in size but big in operation. Here you can find freshly baked tortillas made by hand every morning at 6am. There are bins with all the fresh veggies you would need in making classic Mexican tacos as well as all kinds of hard to find seasonings like the ever popular Tajin salt and lime spice and a variety of Moles and hot sauces. There was even Sula Brand Creams and Cheeses from my Mothers home country, Honduras, included in the variety of crema frescos. I picked up a fresh bag of Tamarindos which was candy for me as a child, think of it as natures version of Lemonheads. I was pretty excited to pick up a big bag for about $5. I also scooped up several perfectly ripe avocados, two large packages of hot tortillas, meat to grill some tacos and a few other essential items. Have met the owner and she runs a very nice operation here. If you are Central American or just want to actually eat Central American or Mexican food in an authentic manner, this is your go to spot. read more

As typical as it is to find a place to eat tacos, it's seldom that a joint like this one fails you. It's authentic food! Nice people that are quick to fix your meal, I definitely enjoyed my tacos. The soft but firm tortillas did not break or fall apart once picked up, the tacos are loaded with meat and picadillo, plus the chile verde and chile rojo are bountiful in flavor! It's like going down to the pueblo or centro and getting genuinely made tacos and elotes (corn on the cob) you can also go shop for Mexican sweet bread and other treats not found everywhere. Lovely for some of us Mexicans that want a real good bite :)) and appreciate authentic taste. read more

Disclaimer: This review is based only on the grocery part of the store, not the restaurant. The store is very small, the produce section has a few items and the products behind the counter that I needed were super over priced. I guess I am spoiled as the region I live in has many mexican markets, big, with restaurants and very reasonable prices for all products. See occasionally my West-Coast influence(not to mention Mexican Heritage) draws me to crave this stuff. One well placed wrong turn about 5 months ago brought me here as if an omen . My husband and I were at a store down the street and decided to check Yelp for dinner recommendations near us. This place had great reviews so we decided to check it out. The outside had us feeling concerned because it looks a little sketchy with bars on all the windows. I'm so glad that didn't deter us because this was seriously some of the most delicious Mexican food we've ever had - and that includes the food we ate in Mexico! We were a bit confused upon entering because it literally is a supermarket. They have a butcher counter and a few rows of groceries and it took us a minute to see the walk-up counter where you can order food. Neither of us speak Spanish, but a woman behind the counter spoke English and helped us order - she was very nice and super patient with us. There's two places to sit and eat, either at a counter or at a huge table. Either way you share space with whoever else is there. There are big bowls of salsa and roasted peppers on the table and you just help yourself. Choose your drinks out of the coolers in the back of the store and pay for everything at the counter when you're done eating. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes which came with beans and rice. The tortillas tasted homemade and everything was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Bistec Encebollado which is grilled steak and onions and it comes with warm tortillas so you can stuff them like a fajita. Portions are huge and yes, we ate it all - it was too good not to finish it! There was a steady stream of people picking up food to go and now that I know that's an option, I will definitely be ordering ahead for take out during lunch or on my way home. I can't wait to try everything on the menu! If you are looking for tasty, authentic Mexican food, I would highly recommend this place. Tried a few other places out that are closer to home but, we keep coming back here even though for us it's a bit far. We love that they also set up outside in their parking now. I've only been here for the tacos. The place looks less the size of a supermarket than an outfitted convenience store. There are several aisles of tortillas, herbs/spices/seasonings, sodas, juices, rice, etc for your cooking needs. There's also a section of religious ornaments if you need a Virgin Mary statue or a cross necklace. The butcher section looked great, seasoned cuts of steak, chicken, tripe, chorizo, and other meats I didn't recognize. The cool part about this place was the little meat market and food prepared to order. You can just look on their website for the menu, but they've got all sorts of sopes, tortas, tacos, burritos, and fillings you won't find at the average Tex-Mex joint like lengua (tongue), tripa (tripe), cabeza (cow head), nopal (cactus). I got 3 tacos of the former, served with a lime wedge and salsa verde. I didn't realize they served it Mexican style (cilantro and onion) but it's possible they do pico de gallo and sour cream if you ask for it. I don't have much of a background to judge the taste, but it was worth the adventure and I'll probably choose barbacoa and chorizo next time. It's worth a drive at the very least for the cooked to order food, and with each taco less than $3, it's well worth it.. read more

Yay!! Finally-a Mexican Grocery Store in South Florida!! I only found this place by accidentally driving by; I'm so glad I did!! You will find pretty much everything here. Being a supermarket, prices are fairly cheap too. The best part- they make authentic Mexican food to go! The tacos are made with home-made corn tortillas. Try the torta de milanesa and tacos asada- both super yummy and authentic!!!! They have conchas!! I haven't seen any since back home in Chicago!!! I'm waiting to return to give them the no doubt five stars they deserve but I adore this find - this is the real deal, an authentic Mexican market down to its jarred napolitos (cactus), lorocco in brine, verdolagas (purslane), jicama and more. Fresh fluffy tortillas abound and they have a butcher shop on site slicing and dicing fish, beef, chicken and pork products with a commanding efficiency.
