The food was ok. I had a steak burrito which was decent a good size to share. My son had a steak quesadilla we did had to send it back because it was cold. We also had a side of rice and order another quesadilla. Everything was tasty and fresh except the first quesadilla which was cold. The service was very friendly and attentive. My favorite Mexican restaurant is called Taquería Dona Raquél. Located on Sixie highway south of Atlantic in Pompano Beach. It's in an industrial area but we'll worth it. I go here a lot and had many dishes on the menu. On weekends they cook tamales in a husk. I had the chicken tamale. Delicious. Then I ordered a postone I think it's called. They cook the meat on a spit and serve it as a taco. Tender and juicy. They only offer this dish on the weekend too. Well worth trying this dish. I love the open kitchen and I'd you sit close enough l, you can watch the chef cook. The cook with love and you taste it in their food. Very crowded for a Sunday lunch. Servers always friendly and accommodating. Reasonable prices. Mostly local Mexicans I see dine here, so you know their food is the real deal. read more

I hadn't been back to Doña Raquél in the last few years, but have been ordering online every so often as their food definitely impressed me before. Finally, I was able to go back to the brick and mortar premises to enjoy my meal the way it should be. They manage to find a way of making everything authentic, but also welcoming to those who aren't familiar with all the dishes. I know I can try something here for the first time without being nervous about what to expect - the menu is clear in both Spanish and English, and it's always great to try something other than the regular tacos and burritos. The only problem is getting hooked on something I might struggle to find elsewhere! Portion sizes are solid, and while they've gone up a little bit in price it's still a very affordable place to eat. I was excited to bring a friend from back home - where we don't do Mexican eating well - and he was able to see why of the many choices nearby, this was the one I was excited for him to try. This place is the real deal when it comes to authentic tacos. I love that they have all the classics. Tacos de cueritos (soft gelatinous pigs skin) carnitas or a mix of both, arrachera, carne Asada, tongue, al pastor and more... I got 2 tacos of cueritos mixed with carnitas and two al pastor. They were both great but the star was the al pastor! They device was top notch and we were served with a smile. This place is off the beaten path and has a convenience store connected to a large sized restaurant. This is definitely a hole in the wall with someone's grandmother cooking in the kitchen!!! What a great find! This restaurant is located in a random, small, quiet plaza. The restaurant itself is rather large with an open air kitchen and about 20 tables. We only tried the tacos but they were the perfect, most authentic tacos I've had in awhile. They dont look like much but the carne asada was very flavorful! More 3 1/2 -- good to very good. This is the real deal Mexican. Our waitress spoke English quite well, though, so between our Spanish and her English we were able to order easily. Inside it is pretty basic and spacious. Bare tables. The kitchen is open to view. In the back is a bar/counter. The menu is large but nicely explains each menu category/item so you have a very good idea of the differences between the types of tacos, burritos, etc. Some things are only available on the weekends. Most are marked on the menu, but not everything. So have a back up when you order. They bring homemade chips to the table and two sauces with no explanation. One sauce is green -- it's hot. And the other one is red and even hotter. It would have been nice to have a mild choice (you can order pico de gallo for $2.25 which I read about later). My husband started with two carne asado tacos. Each comes with 2 small soft tortillas "circles" stacked --one on top of the other -- with meat (in this case grilled steak) topped with onions and cilantro. I had a carnitas taco without onion -- this was the best meat: tender, shredded pork. Then we each had a tostada --- he had chicken and I had carne asada. It's a bigger flat fried tortilla topped with retried beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and slices of avocado. I liked this dish much better than the regular tacos...for the same price. I wished they offered this with the pork. A bit of lime squeezed on top and a touch of salt improved everything. Some sort of salsa would have been nice, too. They have beers, juices, and sodas. For the price, you can order much more than we did. Everything is quite reasonable. There are soups, salads, entrees a la carte. And in addition to the various meats, there's also a seafood section (more expensive). read more

Hi, I exist. Please stop looking over me. And that's putting it kindly as I felt that our waitress completely disregarded me. I mean, yes, my boyfriend ordered for me, but that doesn't mean that my saying please and thank you have to be ignored. Or rather my saying por favor and gracias as Spanish is the dominant language at this restaurant. I don't know if it's that they're trying to be traditional or what, but this attitude really displeased me. I felt we went back at least 100 years. Maybe I'm being sensitive, I don't know. The waitress wasn't rude, I just felt completely invisible. As for the food, I had two carne asado tacos and a sweet corn tamale. Boyfriend had three different types of tacos (I don't remember exactly which ones). All this was accompanied by complimentary chips and two sauces. I believe the red one was their attempt at spicy, but it wasn't at all. The green one was tamer still, and both sauces, while tasty, left much to be desired for this born and raised Chicano. Chips, too, felt stale and just plain overdone. In terms of the tacos, they had onions and cilantro. Not much else. I dumped sauce on them and I ate them. The carne asada was cooked perfectly with juices happily coming out. I just wish there were more seasonings on it. For the sweet corn tamale, the red color surprised me as I'm used to yellow tamales, but hey, don't let the color get to you. It tastes a sweet corn tamale should except perhaps a tad too sweet for my taste. I would rate this restaurant lower, but I think this is one of those you get what you pay for. For two people, we didn't even hit $20. I would eat there again but perhaps try something else. Maybe request more sauce. Can't find more authentic interior Mexican food in Florida. Yes, it is a hole in the wall but it is awesome. There is good beer, sopes, huaraches, tortas, tacos of all kinds, seafood, and much more. On the weekends they have pozole, menudo, and barbacoa. Look at the torta, it's gigantic, prepared in authentic telera, and delicious.
