I used to give this place 5+ stars. You cannot beat the taste of the food - it is amazing. The service used to be stellar but has gone way down hill to the point where I won't even go back. One time, I actually had to call the restaurant from my table and have them send my server over to give me a plate and utensils so that I could eat the food that was delivered by someone else. Another time, went in and the place was EMPTY...except for the manager in the back of the place who was on her cell phone (she didn't have an office?) and so they sat us at the worst table - when asked to move they were SO rude...we left. Haven't been back. I don't know what happened - but sadly, they are not what they used to be. Only gave a 2 star because of the food - but the service deserves a negative score. read more

I grew up around Hockessin and have been coming to Mexican Table, formerly named Palacio Maya, since I was a kid. Even though I moved out of state almost a decade ago, I still try to come here whenever I'm in town. This is one small restaurant that has definitely gone uphill over time rather than down. The decor is bright and cheerful, the booths are cozy but not too pressed for space, and the service is always friendly and usually incredibly fast. Perhaps most importantly, all the food is always fresh and delicious. Some of my favorite entrees include the veggie fajitas with sautéed mushrooms, corn, onions, red, green, and yellow peppers and soft tortillas, the burrito grande which is stuffed with veggies and tender chicken or steak, verde sauce, queso, Spanish rice, and fried beans, or the enchiladas rojas, also with rice and beans. They also serve more adventurous and upscale items such as duck, a variety of seafood, and seasonal ingredients like pumpkin. Beer is reasonably priced, and cocktails such as mojitos and margaritas are strong and tasty. I have enjoyed eating here frequently and getting takeout over the course of many years. Favorites include the tacos de asada, duck tacos, chiles en Nogada and basically anything else with steak in it. Walked in for an early lunch, Daisy sat us at our table. She is very friendly and explains our menu questions. We started with the super nachos, beef and chicken, they were tastey but rather small. We ordered the shredded chicken enchiladas, shrimp enchiladas and the Steak Burrito. The steak burrito was perfectly cooked. The grilled veggies, refried beans and rice went perfectly. My son got the crispy shredded chicken chimichanga and ate every bit of it. Same with the shrimp chimichanga. This is our third time here and look forward to next time here. We ate in at Mexican Table for the first time tonight, after having enjoyed their takeout several times. We started with the House Margarita, draft Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy and Cali Guac appetizer along with the complimentary Chips and Salsa. Oh my! The guac and salsa were so fresh and so delicious, with hot chips and amazing drinks. Then I had Fish Tacos while my husband had Chicken Quesadilla with Beans and Rice. We were both very happy with our choices! And, even though we didn't have room, we shared the Peach Cobbler because it sounded so good. We may not have had room, but we cleaned the plate! I'm generally more of a Mexican traditionalist. Mexican staples like chilaquiles, bistec ranchero, puerca en chile verd, etc. This place had some fun takes on Mexican classics and some Americanized options as well. One of the cool components of the menu was the prefix course which was an appetizer, entree, and desert for $20. The items rotate regularly. This weekend the menu was mushroom soup, carnitas, and strawberry rhubarb tart. I'm ok on mushrooms and I'm allergic to strawberries so this particular arrangement wasn't ideal. I do want to go try the prefix Couse next time though. I instead decided to try the duck enchiladas. Duck confit filling with a pablono sauce. The duck was really good. Tender and juicy. The thick enchilada sauce was good, but it was very herb heavy somehow. Almost tasted like a thick pesto. It was missing a lot of the heat and chili taste that the duck was missing. There was also way too much of that sauce though. Have to reel that back since it wasn't as thin as a traditional enchilada sauce. Just dominated all the textures. My wife tried the floutas. They came two red and two green. I have never seen floutas presented in the fashion they were. I haven't even seen floutas covered in sauce like that before. The meat was good, but the combination of the tortilla and the sauce wasn't overly satisfying. The service was acceptable, but our waiter was awkward at times. He seemed new or uncomfortable. Didn't make recommendations. Told what he didn't like before what he did like. The service time was fine though. Overall I want to go back. The menu was fun and creative which I really appreciate. While I think the execution could be better, it's some of the better Mexican we've had since moving to Delaware from Las Vegas. Looking forward to giving it another try! read more

This will probably be the only 5 star I ever give. This place has an amazing house marg (5$ 3-6pm) On top of that it is hands down the best Mexican food in the area. (I know the area and Mexican food well). On top of having best drinks, prices, happy hour/ daily specials, food, they have the BEST SERVICE. Servers are happy and proud to be involved in your meal.
