I ordered the three taco basket, chicken with extra cheese. They do NOT skimp on the extra cheese! The cheese was a bit overboard, BUT it was exactly what I asked for, so I applaud them for that. Once you get through the cheese on top the chicken has good flavor. They also were more than willing to give me all three sauces to try without an additional charge. The taco basket came with a bag of chips as well. The meal was hot and out fairly quickly, I'd guess 10 minutes or less. Staff here are always pleasant. I didn't go inside, but the parking lot has always been clean and well maintained when I have visited. After tax I paid $14.07 for my three tacos and extra cheese. I used to love coming here. Now? Not so much. My friend and I ordered the same thing, three chicken tacos. Mine was crunchy and hers was soft. My shells were stale and the soft tacos were overfilled. I get you have constraints with hard shells so you don't break them, but the same order should not weigh 3 times as much. Not gonna lie, I was happy for my friend but also jealous. I made my boyfriend hold the containers to show him, I was so astonished at the weight difference. You order up front so it feels like a cross between fast food and a sit down Mexican Restaurant. Decorated nicely inside and plenty of parking outside. They have a limited menu but all the standard fare. Food came up relatively quickly. I asked for hot sqlsa with my taco salad and my daughter got mild for her cheese nachos. I liked the salsa may have been my favorite part of my meal. My daughters nachos truly was chips and melted cheese. The chips were cold and unsalted. My taco salad has chicken, lettuce, chopped tomatoes on a flour tortilla bowl. Not a big bowl but just fine for lunch. I would classify the food as Tex-Mex as opposed to authentic Mexican. Overall, in my opinion the food was good. Not bad and not great. Good change of pace from traditional fast food! My 9 year old daughter liked it more than I did. It is on the fast food side, yes...but to me and my pickier husband this place is light years better than Taco Bell. We really like their loaded nachos and consider them second only to our homemade version...excellent when you are short on time or ingredients. El Taco is not fancy but they're quick, easy, and have a clean spacious dining room at this location just off the exit. I realize this is one of those places that you kind of had to grow up with to appreciate, but honestly, the food is objectively bad. As in, Taco Bell is better. To start, the most authentic item on their property is the faux stereotypical Sonoran caricature painted on the outside wall. Once inside, their menu features three main items: A "burrito" that's about 50% Velveeta A "taco" that no Mexican would recognize A "sancho," which is not even a Mexican food item name (and you wouldn't ever name something with that word if you actually spoke Spanish: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sancho) The sign over the entryway claims it has the "fastest tacos in the universe." I haven't tried the tacos, but unless they can slap together a taco about 100 times faster than it takes them to make a burrito (I haven't tried one of their "tacos" yet), there is no truth in that statement. I've been here twice, once when it was empty just before closing and once when it was crowded today at lunchtime, and both times, I waited close to 10 minutes for my food. And for the privilege of waiting so long and my $8, I got a plate with a burrito that was about 7 inches long and half an inch thick and nothing else on it. If you think Tex-Mex is a gloppy, over-sauced, over-cheesed abomination of authentic Mexican food, wait until you try some Ozark-Mex here. This takes it to a whole new level. I hope you love processed liquefied cheese, because that's 90% of the flavor of everything here. Next time I'm on Jackson Street and I need a fast meal when everything else is closed, I will be skipping El Taco in favor of the Taco Bell half a block away. The food there is better, faster, and cheaper. The saddest thing to me isn't that this place exists--anyone can open a restaurant with crappy food any place they want. The saddest thing to me is the fact that this place has a loyal following. That this place (and its sister restaurants in the region) can be so beloved and busy fulfills just about every stereotype of people in the Ozarks that exists--and those aren't positive stereotypes. Fortunately, Springfield has begun to develop a decent food scene in recent years. But that's a recent development. My experience here has taught me not to bother searching out the region's long-established places or to trust non-foodie locals' recommendations. We recently moved back to Branson and decided to take a little drive and get some tacos. We both got the 3 Taco Basket. It was delicious! The taco shells were light and crispy. The hamburger was good and the lettuce, tomatoes and cheese were excellent. It came with chips and some sweet salsa that we'd never had before. All I can say is wow! Can't wait to go back! read more

Clean enough restaurant, but don't go in expecting something similar to the Springfield Mexican Villas. It's a fast-food, much like a Taco Bell, establishment. Not much in the way of flavor, very bland, cheap food. Even the rice was subpar. $30 for three people to eat and it was overpriced, almost to the point we asked for our money back. We won't be back. I blame myself for eating here without checking the reviews and then not leaving when I saw the food others got. I really just wanted some decent Mexican food and this was not it. Not saying it was the worst I have ever had, but the worst I can remember. Rice and beans were obviously left over from yesterday. Beans were dry pasty and had no flavor, the rice had hard parts in it. I really have nothing good to say about the combo taco/enchilada meal except the sauce was ok. You're kidding me, right? All I am going to say is...they cook all their food in the microwave. They don't even bother hiding it...they just scoop up your ingredients onto a tortilla, heat it up in the microwave and hand it to you. That is just offensive to every sense of culinary standards, and the fact that they don't even bother doing it discreetly is just disturbing. We are on the 4th generation to love Mecican villa! Mexican American at it's best! They have several locations the most original one located on south National. I say most original is because they started up a very small place on Glenstone. They had to get a bigger place due to their popularity. I was 5, I think when my parents 1st took me. My spouse and I picked up some dinner from the drive-through on our way home from the lake several days ago. We have been fans of Mexican Villa our entire lives as native Springfieldians. However, this is the VERY LAST STRAW. We had noticed (at the S. Springfield restaurant the last time we carried-out there) that the sauce seemed wayyyy different, and wayyyy too spicy - not at all the Mexican Villa sauce we had all come to love covering up our enchilladas and saunchos! The food from this El Taco last weekend was absolutely HORRIBLE, AND INEDIBLE!!! The cheese enchiladas I ordrered were not even rolled up, nor was the sauncho enchilada style dish that my husband ordered. I would not feed this slop to my dog! I always go through the drive-thru, so someone else might get faster customer service inside of the restaurant. I always sit at the order box for about two minutes before someone comes on and asks if they can take my order. I stick to my tried-and-true chicken burrito enchilada style with rice. The food is always delicious, no complaints there. The prices aren't bad either. It's the service itself that takes a long time...and the employees aren't very nice at all. I was being handed my debit card back and the girl dropped it on the ground outside my car door then just stared at it, then me, and said "oh my bad" then closed the window. No lie. Easily, hands down, the worst tacos I have ever eaten. What a shame. The place looks great, has a good feel, but that food should be quarantined. Cold stale tortilla, dry, crumbly and tasteless beef, and so much shredded cheese you can't even find the taco. Chips were stale and came with a bag they had stashed under the microwaves and tasted oddly like ginger bread cookies. Couldn't even hear or smell a grill going. Just dump some old beef in a sadness tortilla and put her in the micro for a couple secs. That's all this place is worth. Hot sauce was awesome and so was cheese sauce. I stopped into Mexican Villa - Ozark on my way back to Wichita yesterday (9/4). I went through the drive through and ordered and paid for a burrito enchilada style. It took a long time to get my order. In fact, the car in front of me drove off without theirs since they had waited so long. When I finally got to the window they first told me an incorrect amount. Then they said did you have 3 tacos or burrito enchilada style. I said I had the burrito so he took my money and gave me change. Quite a while later, I received my order. I drove off and went on to Springfield and stopped their to eat. When I opened my sack, I had 3 tacos, not the burrito that I had ordered and paid for. I called the manager, Eric. He told me they knew that had given me the wrong thing just as I drove out. He said to come back and they would correct it. I explained that I was in Springfield on my way to Wichita so wasn't going to come back. He said, we'll write your name in a book and you can come back in within 30 days with the receipt and we'll replace it. Again I said I was from Wichita and wouldn't be coming back within 30 days. Maybe they could mail me a check. He said oh they couldn't do that. I'm very disappointed in this Mexican Villa. Obviously, I won't be going back there and will suggest to friends that maybe they should skip this location when considering Mexican Villa. read more

Absolutely wonderful food!!! I'm a huge fan of this fast mexican food restaurant. Their sanchos, cheese dip, and tacos are always amazing. In fact, I haven't had a single thing I don't like there. However, the service is absolutely horrid. If you go through the drive thru, do not expect it to be fast whatsoever, very slow service. Also, they close at eight, and I've actually been kicked out of there at 8:30 with them stating that they needed to start cleaning the front of the store, even though the front of the store didn't close for another hour and a half. I was blown away, and pretty ticked off. Very unfriendly staff, also not very professional looking, but what can you expect from a fast food restaurant? I would just like to receive my food from someone who looks like they've bathed in the last two weeks. If you are looking for some mexican (that's not sit down only), head on over to El Taco.
