I had dined here once before for a taco and margarita fix. I found the food and (more importantly) the margaritas to be very reasonably priced and delicious. So why the two stars? On cinco de mayo, I stopped in around lunchtime (1:30ish) to treat myself to a taco and a margarita. The restaurant had special menu with "special" prices. And by "special", I mean SUPER pricey. ONE small taco was five bucks!! Aren't the tacos normally $2.50? Since I was starving, I asked for a side of beans and rice but the waiter had to check to see if the kitchen had it. Because of the special menu, many normal items were not being offered. Come on! What Mexican restaurant does not have beans and rice on a menu?!!! I get because of Cinco de Mayo the owner(s) was/were trying to maximize profit for the "holiday". But geez Louise I will say that for 12 bucks the cilantro margarita was decent. For 21 bucks, I had one margarita, ONE small taco, and a side of lukewarm beans and rice. Maybe I will come back on a regular day for regular prices. read more

They also have a happy hour deal but only at the bar- 3 tacos plus 1 margarita for $15 or 3 tacos and 2 beer for $12...again this is only offered if your sitting at the bar. Their guacamole is really fresh n the chips are good...taste kinda homemade. Their tacos are $3.50 during happy hour...$3.75 for "super tacos" (lettuce, cheese, n sour cream added). The spicy pork taco was really flavorful but the shrimp 1 was a little bland. We also ordered the corn...waste of money...it was not tasty at all and def not the typical Mexican street style corn flavor. I think it might have been the cheese they used. Drove by the big sign and bright store front many times and finally decided to stop in. The service was great. The waiters were very attentive, even those that weren't serving us. This is the type of place that refills your water as soon as you take your last sip. Came for happy hour where the margaritas were $7 I believe. Drinks did the trick although we're a bit sweet. One of my favorite things in the world is authentic Mexican food. Just straightforward dishes with fresh ingredients and maybe a margarita. Does it get any better than that? Found Mexico 2000 after searching on Yelp for an unpretentious Mexican place in Williamsburg, and it was everything. First off, the place is huge on the inside, with a bar and table seating. They also have an outdoor patio area with big wooden tables, which is where my boyfriend and I sat. It has everything you'd expect of outdoor seating: string lights overhead, light music playing, people sitting around and enjoying the nice weather. Started the meal with a happy hour frozen margarita ($6) and my boyfriend got a virgin pina colada, which were both excellent. They have other reasonable happy hour specials, but you can only get them at the bar (which is frustrating but whatever LOL.) Also ordered chips and guacamole ($10), which is one of those setups where they bring the cart out and make it in front of you - ended up being so fresh. I ordered 3 tacos ($3.50/each): pollo, al pastor, and shrimp, which blew me away. Packed full with a nice mix of flavorful ingredients and sauces. My boyfriend got the steak burrito and also inhaled it. Not sure if we said a word to each other or breathed - it was that kind of meal. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Our food also came out within ~15 minutes, but not sketchy fast. This is by far my favorite Mexican place in Williamsburg and I would like to return to try out more of the happy hour. The food was fine but the service was the main problem we were attended/ checked on maybe 3 times total for the hour and half there not including when food was brought and it was uncomfortable to see the waiter standing nearby watching us after getting the check as if we planned on running and even though it was not stated on the menu there is a mandatory 18% gratuity for parties under 4-5 even though it was not earned. And frozen drink ordered was just not drinkable after trying to sip it nothing would come out because of how frozen it is and even after mixing it so much that it would spill it would still be too frozen to drink.Will not be returning to such a bad establishment. read more

Came here on a whim, with a friend, looking for a boozy brunch. We live on the island and drove 45 mins to get here. The whole time, we were hoping it was going to be worth the trip. As you can tell from the stars, it was! According to yelp, I expected to have difficulty parking but, to my surprise, I was able to find metered parking right in front of the restaurant (2:00pm Sat)! It's a cozy restaurant with warm and welcoming staff. We had the bottomless brunch (2hr limit), which is currently priced at $45. The food was included in the price and, since we opted for the higher priced option, all of the drinks offered for brunch, were included. We started off with margaritas and, chips with salsa and guacamole, which was made fresh, tableside (bar-side for us) . They asked our spice preference and, I chose spicy! It wasn't as spicy as I like it but, they both were damn good! My friend ordered the steak and eggs while I opted for the fajitas. Now for the breakdown... DRINKS: As I mentioned, we started off with the margaritas. We tried all of the flavors offered; classic, raspberry, passion fruit, strawberry, mango and coconut. Our faves were the passion fruit (not always available on the wknd) and the coconut! Also, since we checked-in on yelp, we got a free shot of tequila! One thing that I especially like, is that the fruit purees, for the drinks, are homemade in-house! (SN: the purees are, obviously, made with lots of sugar. For me, I expected a headache the following day and I sure did have one so beware if you're sensitive to sugar, like me; don't let that shy you away from trying the flavors; I just went overboard, lol) FOOD: The manager, Sergio, who also happened to be tending bar at the time, was extremely knowledgeable, not only on the drinks he made us but, also with the entrees, we ordered. I asked his personal favorite and, recommendation and, after very little deliberation, he said, everything! My friend and I told him what we were considering and, he assured us they were good choices which, they were! I don't recall being asked how we like our steaks but, they came out delicious, nonetheless. They offered two sauces one the side; one a tomatillo (not spicy), the other a chipotle hotsauce (sorta spicy and, tolerable; in my opinion). The food came out on hot skillets. OVERALL: Will, most definitely, visit again! The restaurant had a B rating but, from my observations, the restaurant was clean. The cups, flatware and silverware were all clean, along with the bar top and tables. The women's bathroom and floors were also clean which leads me to believe the rating may have come from the kitchen, which isn't visible or accessible, to patrons. I enjoyed the music, ambiance, greeters, wait staff, drinks, and especially the relationship between the manager and the employees. It was refreshing to see the interaction he had with them. I recommend this place if you're a couple or small group, looking for, good food, good drinks and, good times. read more

This place is so amazing. Fantastic huaraches, great cecina, really affordable and fantastic guac ... which are not common to find at a lot of other Mexican spots in NYC. There's the bodega location for takeout and the restaurant 2 doors down ... go to the restaurant for very cheap margaritas, go to the takeout spot if you wanna be fast, and even cheaper (beers in the fridges, there are a couple tables). Also the people are SO NICE! Really fantastic folks. One of my top 2-3 Mexican spots in the whole city. My only note here is that I do not find it as excellent for delivery. read more

For years I wandered by the Mexico 2000 Grocery and was always curious about the food, but being in a small bodega space they didn't really have a sit down area where you can eat. Well they've just launched an actual sit down restaurant two storefronts over and it's worth checking out. The food is old school Mexican and tastes great. The proportions that are served are huge, so it's a good place to bring friends. On my first lunch I had the huevos rancheros which were tasty and filling. The complimentary chips and salsa were almost a meal on their own, and very good. The service was friendly, although slightly disorganized as they're just getting started. read more

0/10 Terrible service. My friend and I was seated outdoors. by the bartender. There was 3 other tables however they were finished and had their bills. A server walked by us 3 times, I had to flag the server down and she then sent someone else out to us. We placed our order. 30 mins went by, we still did not receive our drinks. We watched a server check on a table with a Hispanic couple multiple times and never acknowledged us. It's... it's the type of food flavors you would expect from an establishment that blossomed from a bodega. I understand this is associated to a bodega but did you need to serve what tasted like three year old store bought chips? Come on, and the salsa, just why. The main meals, combo fajita and burrito. Zero flavor for the fajita (so the person who ate it said). The burrito had potential but was basically rice and flour tortilla (it was supposed to be a shrimp burrito). I liked how small yet stuffed it was and that the cream/guac was on the side so you put as much as you like. But it was missing a lot. Overall all this joint needs is a chef who can knows about herbs/spices and how to use them along with a bartender who knows about spirits and such. My sister in law recommended this place and my wife and l, from queens decided to have lunch there one day. The service was so slow, but the waitress (don't remember her name but she was Venezuelan) acknowledged the delay and told us she was short-staffed, understandable. She was very nice and made for a pleasant lunch that I had to recommend my friends. HOWEVER, I returned with a friend for dinner and what a bad experience it was. When asking what drinks were on happy hour, the bartender boldly looked at his watch as if we told him he had 5 minutes to live. We only ordered tacos and they took well over half and hour to come. I rarely write poor reviews but I felt inclined to do so because I never experienced a dining experience like this before, as an avid diner in NYC. My friend and I made reservations on Open Table for 2:30pm for outdoors. We were not seated until 3pm and was informed that outside was completely full and they only had inside dining available. When we explained to them that this was unacceptable the host/server walked away when we were mid-sentence. My friend came all the way from Jersey and we just wanted to catch up, so we said let's just sit indoors. After 15 min, I had to flag down the bartender to bring us water. It was a hot day and the ceiling fans were not on. It then took another 10 min to bring a menu to our table and they only had one, with the explanation that it was the last brunch menu they had at the moment and brunch was ending at 4pm. At this point, we were really appalled at the service and we decided to leave. On the way out, we saw a couple that was seated after us had their drinks already. I do not recommend this place at all.
