This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Birmingham and a great place for my wife and myself to stop in after work for dinner. This menu is exceptional. There's a large list of small plates, priced around $10.00 which aren't that small and would make up a full meal for all but the most famished diners. Super tasty, well-prepared and a bargain. Nice bar in the place. Very good decor that avoids the usual thing you see in Mex restaurants. Also, listen, really outstanding wait staff. read more

If you want good customer service and a friendly staff then please don't waste your time going to Mexico Lindo because you won't find it there. Our server was rude and very stand-offish. He took his time coming back to our table to see if we were alright or if we needed anything. Then to top it off he had an attitude when the ticket came out wrong. Not only was he rude so was the owner/manager. If you order a drink during happy hour then it's not the patron's fault that the waiter decided to wait until after happy hour to put in the drink order. That is not my problem but they acted like they didn't care and didn't want to fix it (however, they did)and to be honest the margaritas weren't that great. I, not too long ago, ate at a nationally know mexican place in San Antonio, Tx on riverwalk. I thought it was good- maybe the best. Mexico Lindo completely blew them away. This is the best mexican food I have ever had by such a great margin it is ridiculous. We went for lunch; I saw the prices and thought ok, this is really hig. The salsa was incredible, equal to the best I have ever had or maybe better. I thought the gold standard was Iguana grill in Tuscaloosa, but not any more. The food- I ordered 3 Flautas- the presentation on the plate was amazing, looked like something one would see on food network, but the food did all the talking- it was, by a stupid wide margin, the best mexican food I have ever had. I mean it was almost funny- this place is on another level. Its small but cozy and charming. This is not only my new favorite go to for mexican but the only place I will be going to for mexican. I cannot recommend them enough. I will upload a pic soon- the negative reviews I have seen- I believe they are sincere, but they dont jive with my experience and cant possibly be the amazing place I went today. Atmosphere is one of the best when it comes to casual Mexican restaurants. Salsa is fresh and perfect chunkiness level, IMO. Lunch menu averages $7 to $11, and I always give bonus points for ability to substitute black beans for refried. Good happy hour deals too--server hooked us up with a free pitcher of margaritas for moving tables to accommodate a larger group. I have a friend who loves this place, so I go there from time to time because she wants to. The happy hour is good, and the margaritas are very tasty! However, outside of that, I have not been really impressed. Every single time I have been here, the chips taste overcooked of not almost burned (and I have been here quite a number of times.) I am not sure if I just hit them on a bad day, or if they just don't know how to make chips. Not having good chips for happy hour at a Mexican restaurant is not a good start. That being said, I have tried an entree or two and thought they were pretty good. If the chips were better, they would get a lot more of my business! read more

My family always goes every Sunday and we've never had a bad experience. I'm writing this review because I just wanted to mention the Lindo Burger. It was, low key, one of the best burgers I've ever had, especially in Birmingham. Whether or not you are in the mood for Mexican food, this burger is a must try. It's got grilled onions with melted cheese served with guacamole on the side. Even without the burger, I would recommend this place to everyone. They killed it the other night! We had the Queso Fundido with Chorizo first and man was it worth the money!! We were so delighted and full from the Queso that we ended up splitting an entree and again it was SO delicious! We split the Tinga plate, which we had never heard of and asked the waiter for his opinions. He did not disappoint! The Tinga plate was a spicy, fresh and crunchy delight. The service was great, the food was delicious and the drinks were freshly made! Definitely going to be going back a lot more often! read more

I am giving this restaurant five stars. But if I could rate one menu item specifically, I would give the Tortilla soup here six stars!! I consider myself to be a tortilla soup connoisseur. I have tried this soup both in Birmingham and around the country, and I have never had better. I can't place my finger on it exactly, but it is rich and smooth and filling and wonderful. I think it goes without saying (5 stars) that of course everything else here is wonderful too. The atmosphere is casual but clean and fun. I had easily one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences of my life at Mexico Lindo. I was with a group of ten so I expected a slower experience, but this was ridiculous. We had to wait for more than 2 hours for our table. We tried to order our food right when sat down, but they told us they couldn't take any food orders for a little bit. On top of this, they gave my girlfriend a random person's debit card when we checked out. As a result, she has currently has no access to money. When she called the restaurant to inquire about what happened, they gave her attitude. Overall we spent more than 5 hours in the restaurant and they lost my girlfriends debt card. Went in for lunch and enjoyed the Texas Veggie Burrito. My mom ordered the salmon dish and also enjoyed it. We shared a queso dip so that my 1 year old would have something to nibble on, but it had too much of a kick for him to enjoy it. The restaurant was clean and service was pretty quick. Awful. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL attempt at a Margarita. You either get some nasty fluorescent green industrial made High Fructose Corn syrup mix or a "Skinny Rita" that on one attempt tasted like Tang and on another attempt tasted like battery acid. Please don't order the margarita here. read more

Service was horrible and the food was mediocre. The food came out cold and we had to ask over and over for refills and for our check. The food would have been average at best IF it were not cold. I would have gladly gotten my own refills if we had access; I got tired of trying to flag down our server and then to have to beg for service. It was a horrible experience. read more

Might have been a bad night for them, but I had the worst experience at a Mexican restaurant I have ever had here on 5/3/15. We got there at 4:55 on Sunday so there was hardly anyone there. Took forever to get our drinks, but that wasn't the worst part. After waiting for what seemed liked forever, we finally asked the waitress what was taking so long. She told us it was just so busy. I looked around and the place wasn't even half full. We ended up not getting our food until 5:45, almost an hour after we arrived. For someone that is used to receiving my food within 15 minutes after ordering at Mexican restaurants this was surprising to say the least! HORRIBLE experience. Do not waste your time or money. Came with friends at 5, were told we would be seated at 6 and didn't get seated until 9. To top it off, they were completely understaffed which resulted in my card being given to a stranger and I received someone else's card. Didn't realize this until the next day (the cards were from the same bank) so I've since had to cancel my card. When I called the manager he was extremely rude and essentially ridiculed my demand to be refunded for the night. Absolutely will never return. read more

This restaurant is the perfect example of terrible service. No organization to the wait staff and tables. It's like a who gets the table first and then you end up with no service. Took my family for my first trip to Mexico Lindo last night. John was our server...I chose the fish, scallops, and shrimp burrito with mango salsa on my salad...everything was SO FRESH tasting, and I totally enjoyed it. I am picky, but I'd go back (tonight??). Decided on this place last minute & took a chance after reading pretty bad service reviews. I used to frequent this place many years ago & remembered the food had been good. However, I will NEVER go back after our visit a couple of days ago. Waiter was terrible, left us hanging for salsa, drink orders....I never even got the dinner I ordered! Finally, we asked to speak to the manager & "VOILA!!" the missing waiting instantly appeared. I told him to cancel our drinks & missing dinner. We had to go to hostess stand to get the checks after contemplating a dine and dash (drink and dash, since no food came). Finally got the manager over to let him know how bad the service was & he did not give a damn. He was flippant, gave a lame apology, and walked away. Easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Birmingham in ages. Sadly, I can't comment on the food. Chips and salsa were chips and salsa. Drinks pretty weak. NEVER again. read more
