I have been here a few times and am a huge fan of Mexican food, but unless something changes, I will be frequenting the other Mexican restaurants in the area. On our last visit here, we were pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a spot on the patio outside that provides absolutely wonderful views of Lake Superior. We happily started eating our chips and salsa and put in an order for a pitcher of margaritas. The chips were a little stale, but whatever, right? Then, after waiting 15 minutes and still no drinks, it started to rain a bit. This was causing some confusion on the patio as some people wanted to move to tables inside and the waitstaff was working to accommodate. Then, the rain picked up and we were all asked to move inside. Our server brought us to a booth inside and everything seemed good. Then, 10 minutes later and still no drinks, he comes back to us and asks us for a reminder on what we ordered to drink. He hasn't even placed the order that we made to him 30 minutes ago! We reminded him that it was a pitcher of margaritas and he disappeared. He then came back with two waters and asked if we wanted any food. We reminded him again about the margaritas and ordered a chicken quesadilla. Some time later, another food runner brought us a chicken quesadilla that was not cut and was soggy. I had to bust out the fork and knife and cut the quesadilla into slices myself. I had never seen that before. By the way, still no margaritas. Finally, the margaritas showed up from our server. We happily poured a glass each and took a drink....wow, I had no idea it was possible to screw up a margarita that bad. It tasted as if the pitcher still had soapy dishwater in it when the margaritas were made. By that time we had seen other groups of people get seated and leave because they didn't receive any service. When I was finally able to waive down the waiter I told him about the terrible margaritas and asked for our bill, without the margaritas. To his credit he obliged and we paid our bill and got out of there. Not sure we'll be back anytime soon. Make me long for the days of Chi-Chis in that space, to be honest! read more

Love the location overlooking Lake Superior! Noticed Alambres on the menu and was gonna order it but the nice waitress suggested The Lindo Special instead. Good call! Same dish of sautéed beef, chicken, peppers, onions, cheese, etc but also served over rice. Amazing mix of fresh flavors with melty cheese. So good! Ask for tortillas on the side. My friend was assaulted here in this restaurant when it first opened many years ago. There have been other assaults since hers in this restaurant and it's crazy how popular it remains among Duluthians. The scary part is so many of the workers were involved in harassment of the staff and patrons. This has been a consistent problem for many years and I don't think their food is good enough to keep them up and running. The food was not good, and the service was far worse. We waited an hour for our food and when we asked the waiter how much longer it would be, he just blankly stared at us and shrugged! When the food finally came out, one of the orders was completely wrong. We let one of the waitresses know, which was met with an eye roll. Just avoid it. Staying in Duluth, wanted some Mexican, saw a 4 star average on here - gotta love Yelp for weighing 5 star reviews from 6 years ago so highly - and hoped it would be decent. Got a tres Marias combo, one of each enchilada style. The beef tasted like chef boyarde raviolis and I cannot believe it. The chicken was just not good and sauce only created a bad, very wet tortilla. The queso one was fine as it was cheese wrapped in a tortilla covered in blanco queso. As far as pick up and covid friendly, what a joke. I got directed to the bar to pick up, got the bartenders attention and the pos is inches from a table where two happy-go-lucky locals are spit laughing my direction. I was so excited to try this place. We actually came in during the afternoon. There were not too many people in the place. We were promptly seated and we ordered the fajitas. -The food- There was a lot of food. If we would have known how much we would have been served, we would have only ordered one to split between two people. While the food was hot and fresh, it contained veggies that I would consider to be unusual objects in a fajita. I could not make out if I was looking at squash or cucumber in my fajita dish. I know i've seen mushroom in a fajita before and as far as I am concerned, it actually ruins the dish because the mushrooms absorb too much oil. The tortillas were good, guac and pico were good. After picking half of the dish out, I still had a full serving which was filling. The food came out fast and was hot and fresh. The salsa was a little bland. -Our Server- Our server was very friendly. She took our orders, she was very prompt and answered a lot of our questions. I can't remember her name but she was nice. - The atmosphere_ Everything was clean and quiet. It is close to the lake, which is good for a tourist attraction. I needed a few days to recover from our visit at this restaurant before posting my review. I was going to hold my tongue but not saying anything is a disservice to others. Last week we stayed in Duluth and visited Mexico Lindo for one dinner. After we sat down at our table out on the balcony, our waitress came here to ask about our drink order. After placing our drink order, we had to repeat to her two more times because she came by to ask us two more times what our drink order was while making weird jokes, as if nothing we said actually made it to her ears, but whatever. Then we are served chips and salsa by one of the hosts/waiters, the waiter held the salsa bottle top in the palm of his hand, with his hand covering the entire top rim, i.e., top rim of bottle where you pour things from and his fingers are directly touched and held; we might as well lick salsa off his hand instead of pouring from the bottle. Then the waitress came by and started asking me if I dined at this restaurant the previous night because I, according to her, looked like one of the girls who fled the restaurant before paying. This was the first and obviously the last time I would ever come near this restaurant. I was wondering why she thought that was a appropriate question to ask? And I'm not even gonna ask if she was referring to the fact that I was one of the few Asians in the restaurant at that moment so I must be that other Asian girl who fled the bill. Later, the waitress came back with our two margaritas and two waters, I want to state very clearly that one of the water and one of the margaritas were literally, really, exactly, in her armpit and chest area. OMG. Did I say they were in her armpit and her chest area? Yes, part of the salt that belonged to the rim of my margarita glass is on her t-shirt. My boyfriend and I were utterly terrified and disgusted by what we had seen so far and I didn't even dare touching the margarita glass. We pulled our food order, paid for our drinks and yes we still tipped and left. (Why did we? Why???) And the tables and chairs looked uncleaned and unsanitary. And the chips were stale. ... Try as I may, I probably described only 50% of the sight that night and truth to be told, that visit definitely made our supposedly epic trip so so much worse. I'm giving one star because a lower rating is not possible here. read more

I have read some of the other reviews and I am surprised at the criticism (I suspect they may be Hacienda loyalists). People are critical whether if its "authentic" or not. DOY KAY! I don't even know they are suggesting. Are they disappointed that the food is not delivered straight from Mexico? Under those conditions, the only authentic food here in Duluth can be Ojibwa food. Anyway, Mexico Lindo is the best Mexican restaurant in Duluth. I visit Tucson, Arizona just about every year and the Mexican restaurants there are as "authentic" as it gets. Mexico Lindo is the closest I have experienced to those unique Tucson restaurants. Lindo has a very creative and large menu. The food tastes fresh, the margaritas are great and the portions are large. We keep returning here and are yet to find any issue with the meat (like a reviewer stated). The ambiance is good (my wife likes the Cloquet restaurant better) and if the weather is nice, there is great outdoor seating overlooking the Lake. read more

Super sweet, room temperature and little of the important ingredients (lime, and tequila). Basically warm Mountain Dew with salt on the rim. Chips and salsa were stale. Again, good service, but that's all. The street tacos were bland, and the fajitas were also very bland. We were driving through Duluth and had a craving for Mexican...to be honest, there really isn't a lot to choose from in the area. Our original selection was closed on Sundays, so we opted for this joint. It is your average mexican food--nothing too out of the ordinary--I've had much better, but, I'm sure it could be worse. My husband and I each ordered the steak tacos, and they were pretty good--the seasoning was decent, and we added a side of sour cream just to jazz it up a bit. The other plus here is just as others have stated: the view. We were fortunate to be seated outside and it was a glorious Sunday afternoon. I appreciated being able to watch people as poor at skipping rocks as I am. The downside...the lack of cleanliness. I am not usually one of those high-maintenance types about having everything be 5-star restaurant white tablecloths and such...but this place was pretty filthy. (See photo of table for proof). Food stuck to various parts of the tables...bird poop here and there...really unappetizing. If they would just give that deck/patio area a solid power-washing, they would be in good shape. In a single order of nachos, we found not one but two foot long hairs. There was a piece of raw beef in the guacamole. Honestly questioning how the Department of Health allows this place to stay open. The deck is truly amazing in the summer, however. And you can enjoy it with a beer...a sealed beer. On one occasion, I ordered off the specials for Thursday night which were 3 different burritos. The waiter took my order incorrectly and when he came back to the table with the wrong order, he basically gaslight me in saying that's what I ordered although the other guest at my table heard me order something else. Presented my real ID and was denied service. After asking questions they requested a second form to prove that it was my ID? When my ID has a photo on it. The manager stared at my paper for roughly 5 minutes before cowardly sending the server back over to tell me they would serve me only to come back and say no? Seems like they have no idea what they are doing. I would have much more respect if there was a clear answer as to why my ID was not acceptable. Terrible. Hoping for a quick drink on the patio to end a great day in Duluth (Canal Park area). Walked out to the patio to be rudely greeted by a visibly stressed (or pissed off?) hostess. She lead us to a table at the end of the patio and finished "clearing" off the table by LITERALLY picking off food that was leftover from the guests before us with her bare hands (because they were out of towels???!?!). She then THREW the menus on the table and walked away. We stood there and surveyed our spot---sure, she had done a good job of picking off the food that was on the table, but by doing so, it appeared as though her aim must have been off-every chair was covered in food. I even attempted to brush something off of my seat only to discover it was sour cream (and now smeared on my hand). My boyfriend said "Nope" and we immediately turned around and left. Terrible. The chips taste and have the consistency of cardboard. Our salsa was a complete joke and literally tasted like marinara sauce; I would have preferred breadsticks with it. The food has almost no flavor and looks like those making it don't care. People really seem to love the Cloquet version of this place, so this is not an indictment of that cultural epicenter of authentic Mexican food: Cloquet, Minnesota. This is Mexico Lindo in Duluth, the other epicenter. Popped in for a business lunch (thank you, company expense account, for advancing my yelping!) Had the lunch portion fajitas. Eh. Really eh. The meat was decidely tough, overcooked, and tasteless. My coworker's "cheese steak" burrito was definitely cheesy - lots of melted queso blanco, but guess what! The meat was the same as mine. Literally the little slices of tasteless tough steak! Here's why I didn't give Mexico Lindo a one star: the server was great. She was pleasant and kept things moving. Secondly, the balcony overlooking the lake is gorgeous. That kept my mind off what I was eating. Lastly, I ate my food. Yes, I muscled through, so I know it wasn't poisoned. Why is it whenever I come here I feel like I'm doing them a disservice for just walking in the door? On my last trip to Duluth we came twice... Stop 1) The host was on the phone and did not once look up to acknowledge our existence. I understand you are busy, but at least let us know you saw us and let us know you will be right with us. Then another employee came to the host stand to take a gander at the seating chart. Also did not say anything to our group. We finally had to ask him for help - then he proceeded to try and get the hosts attention to which the host replied rather angrily "I'M ON THE PHONE GIVING DIRECTIONS" We finally were sat on the patio - probably the absolute SAVING GRACE of Mexico Lindo. One of the best seats in Duluth. It is hard to beat having a meal overlooking Lake Superior. The food at Mexico Lindo is OK, there isn't much for good Mexican food in the area. They give you plenty of free chips and salsa (or we like to call it tomato sauce) - not a lot of flavor. Adding some hot sauce helps. The rest of the food is fine, would I eat it again? Yes... would I write home about it? No. Stop 2) SAME host. He looked like he could have died when we told them there would be 5 adults and 2 kids. I would understand the stress if the restaurant had been busy. But at 5pm on a Sunday the place was practically empty. Maybe be happy for the business? When we were finally sat someone brought us chips and salsa (tomato sauce) :) when I said thank you - the guy just glared at me. SORRY! When a server walked by, he glanced at the table and said "well... I guess I can help you" You guess? Yikes. Food this trip: My sister ordered nachos... she got chips and cheese. Maybe she ordered wrong, but the server didn't even try to up sell her on toppings. Needless to say she wasn't expecting such a sad display of a little plate of chips and melted cheese. So I shared my food with her. The chili relleno I ordered was pretty good. The 4 year old of the group loved his burger - so that's positive. My recommendation: Don't come here with more than 4 people, sit outside, order a margharita, enjoy the view, don't expect much from food or service. read more

We came up from the cities for the weekend and had reservations at a different Mexican restaurant in canal park on Friday but it didn't work out for us, so we decided to try this place and OH MY GOD was it good! Everything from the service to drinks to food! Becky was our bartender and she was basically working alone, and running the show. She was so nice, personable & funny. She was very busy and also training someone yet still took the time to talk with us like people vs the generic greetings. The food was perfect, my burrito had so much meat in it! Usually it's a few pieces and the rest is veggies. They had a perfect combo of both. Even though this was my first time here, I'll definitely make it a point to come back here each visit to Duluth!
