Terrible service from waitress. Been here twice and the young blond waitress looks like she is asleep taking orders. Not a smile to be seen and shuffling her feet around like she would rather die than work here. Need to hire someone who smiles and greets customers with a better attitude. We ordered tacos for my son and they came out with cheese 2 times in a row when we specifically said "no cheese". Third time the waiter himself made the tacos and they came out great. I never thought I'd be giving Mexico such a horrible rating. It has been several years since going to this location and we should have stayed away. I write this as I lay in bed recovering from food poisoning. The place was empty but it took 30 minutes to receive our food. My family's food was cold, became they were spending extra time trying to make my shrimp taco salad. Please do yourself a favor and just tell the customer you are out of shrimp. Please do not serve shrimp that takes 30 mins to prep cook and serve. There was something wrong with it and I get to suffer. The cashier took a few bucks off the tab for the wait and told us the kitchen staff was low because of a birthday party. Wish I would have known that before sitting down. read more

A great deal on Tuesday's weather its food or beer! Again his place has been stepping back up to the plate after several years of poor performance. It's only working its way back up to four stars for me but not quite there yet. My son always gets and burrito meal, and it's one of the few places that he eats every bit of his food. The chorizo dip as an appetizer is always delicious. I have not found better chorizo dip in any other restaurant in Richmond. I would say one of their only consistent weaknesses is the salsa they bring out at the beginning of the meal. It tastes pretty much like canned salsa and the tortilla chips are weak to. Don't get me wrong I eat plenty of it when I am here but I think most of the other Mexican restaurants have them beat on their chips and salsa. I would say that's really my only consistent complaints here. The Fajitas Taxanas I always get is consistently delicious! The Chorri pollo always is great too. read more

Mediocre Mexican food at best, but we ordered because they readily offer takeout. I ordered arroz con pollo and they forgot the extra cheese, the sour cream, and the refried beans they charged me for. My sister ordered Mexican street tacos which turned out to just be plain unseasoned chicken in a flour tortilla. The refried beans tasted like they hadn't even been fried once? The only reason there are two stars instead of one is because I was super hungry and I ate the food anyway because I didn't feel like going back to the place to get my money back. A solid lunch spot. I love the patio on a nice day. Today was 90 degrees.. which usually would be too hot. However, on the patio under the umbrella, it was perfect. The chips and salsa came out right away. The salsa never disappoints me. We got the queso dip. Always a treat! I got the lunch combo 7, which is a beef enchilada and a chicken tamale with rice. I got a chicken enchilada instead, the chicken was seasoned perfect and the red sauce was really good. I love me a tamale, this one was okay. Not the best, but not the worst. My water was always full. The service was great. The fiancé got chori pollo. I'm pretty sure this is the only dish he orders at Mexican restaurants. He said it definitely had a kick today. I agree with the previous reviews. There is way better mexican in and around Richmond, Chesterfield, and Midlothian to waste your time at this place. The service was horrible. We arived right at lunch on Saturday and I wanted a couple of beers. We were seated and given a menu, but the service was no existant for at least 10 minutes. 10 minutes later we got our drinks and food at the same time... piss poor... piss poor. The food was lame, nothing authenic, hip, declicious, there is not a postive word to describe it. I got a chicken chimichanga, but it was very apparent the chicken was cooked a week ago. Even worse my chicken was COLD. How do you get cold chicken in a FRIED chimichange. Not sure the laws of physics even agree with that... Either way we wont return. Maybe it's this location, maybe it's not but there are better options around. read more

Mexico is a local chain. This one is my favorite of all the ones in/around Richmond. Servers are consistently good and fast. I think the food is always just the slightest bit better here, cheers to the guys and gals in the kitchen! The carnitas are the bomb here, as are the mushroom quesadillas. Great drinks, reasonable prices. Yummy fried ice cream... the way I see it, this place is everything a good Mexican restaurant should be. read more

It's certainly something different from someplace else like El Paso, heck, I would go out of the way to say it's much better than El Paso.

I think ive had just about every Mexican place around here & especially on the dollar taco nights, we went today around 4 and it was completely empty, the server was amazing, I mean granted she had 3 tables she stayed on top of everything, made sure we knew about the tacos and offered a to go cup. As someone who works in customer service I really appreciated her & i hope her tip showed. The tacos were decent size and delicious. And I love the punch card they have, if only it was a free meal though :) we will be back for sure. read more

We've lived in the Midlothian area for several years but had heard some bad reports about this restaurant, and had never tried it. We finally decided to have dinner at the restaurant. Our waitress could not answer several questions about items on the menu. We found the food to be mediocre. I ordered a dish with enchiladas, and asked if they had onions (which I like on enchiladas). After struggling to make the waitress understand that I wanted some onions on them, I was served plain enchiladas and a small container with chopped onions, which I placed on my food. When we received the bill, I noticed that we were charged $1.50 for onions on the enchiladas. The waitress said nothing about the extra charge. Needless to say, we will never go back! read more

After moving to this area from one devoid of a good mexican restaurants, I was excited to eat here. We actually ate here one Friday night, then returned the next night with out-of-town visiting family because we liked it so much. Our server that first night was Emily, and we asked for her again on our return the next night. She was fantastic! Our food was also all very good. The Chori-Pollo (chorizo and chicken) was divine. The barbacoa was good, though not "real" barbacoa. The fajitas were tasty, and the Pollo Yucatan was also very yummy. The salsa they server was okay, but ask for "the white sauce"...a slightly sweet mayo-ranch dip..different, but so good. The margaritas are well done, and our service was impeccable. Though we absolutely LOVE Plaza Azteca, this is much closer to home, and a good one to boot. We will definitely be returning. read more

The food here is pretty good. I personally prefer some others in the area because they season the food a little better. The price is average for Mexican food most dishes between $9-$15 so not bad. Also tuesday is $1 taco night of you buy a softdrink. If you want an average food experience this is good. If you're looking for something with a little more bang to the seasoning go elsewhere. read more

The ambiance in this place is horrid.. We were sat about 2 feet from the next table and felt squashed. The chips were meh. I ordered Fajitas Texanas which was without doubt, the worst fajitas I have ever eaten. It was plain and bland. No seasoning at all. All the time flies were flying around us and landing on our food. At first look the appearance caught me off guard and I nearly bolted. The floors in areas hadn't been cleaned and dust hung from artwork. Big turn off for me. After receiving our chips and salsa which were warm I started to soften. The chips are thicker and the salsa was very good. We both ordered the California Burrito. One chicken and one steak. They were both filled with a lot of meat and the flavor was very good. However, the cheese sauce was runny. We then tried the fried ice cream which a very generous portion but not the best we've had. Okay. I've eaten at Mexio a billion times and that is no understatement. I started at the one on Horsepen years ago and loved the one near Arboretum. Since moving to Southside, we've gone to this Mexico more times than I can count. My son (who is very picky) actually would eat here and it was nice to have a place we could all go and enjoy. A few months ago, we went here and the service was terrible. Used to be amazing and trouble free. We said then we wouldn't go back. However, we all really wanted to go last night so took a chance. We waited for roughly 15 minutes to be seated-not because they were out of tables, but because they had one person working the register and had waitresses seating guests. On a busy Friday night, they'd do well to have a hostess. 2 couples walked out while we were waiting. Once we were finally seated, out waitress took our drink orders right away and we always order one of their large guacs because they have the best guac-well, they used to. We got our bowl and it was tasted like lime juice and cilantro. I immediately brought this to our servers attention and she was quick to correct it. She added more avocado and it helped, but she did not add any more onion or salt so we had a bowl of smooshed avocados. Whatever. We like avocados so we let that go. We ordered tacos, enchiladas and a special item of some sort of pork tenderloin wrapped in a tortilla. The tacos were very tasty, but I didn't eat mine immediately (but did within 5 minutes of it arriving at my table) and the bottom literally fell out because of the large amount of grease. My enchiladas were just one pile of mush. They were on top of each other with large chunks of tomatoes and some brown lettuce. The enchilada had way too much of what I can only assume was cinnamon in it. The pork tortilla thing was LITERALLY a piece of unseasoned pork in a tortilla with about 2 tablespoons of pico de gallo. While our waitress was friendly, we had to flag her down for drink refills and she never checked if our food was good. She did however come while my husband was still eating-he was actually putting a bite in his mouth-when she asked if she could bring him a box for his leftovers. So we said yes and to bring our check too. Almost $45 later, we felt that we had wasted money and an hour. Sadly, we left and realized that would be our last time at what used to be our favorite restaurant. read more

We live really close to this location, so we've been here MANY times. We've done dine-in and take-out, and have only ever had one problem. We didn't receive one of the things we'd ordered, so my husband had to go back to get it. But they were really friendly and took it off our bill for the inconvenience, and I understand that mistakes happen, so I didn't even consider it a problem. Between me and my family, we've probably had just about everything on the menu. Here are the highlights (in my opinion). The Fajitas, especially the vegetarian fajitas, are SO good. I don't know if they're the best I've ever had, but they're pretty far up there. Any of the chicken dishes are a winner, as well as any of the burritos. We even went for lunch one day, and I had one of their egg dishes, the Huevos con Chorizo, which had really good flavor. My husband favors the steak and pork portion of the menu, consistently going back to the Barbacoa, and Carne Asada. It's difficult to pick out the best stuff because it's all so good and, as I said, we've had it all. But, there is one stand out winner. My absolute favorite thing to eat here is...the Sopa de Pollo. Yeah, you read that right, the Chicken Soup. It's hands down the BEST chicken soup I've ever had. It seems so simple, but they stuff HUGE chunks of chicken and vegetables into it and it's got a spicy kick that I still can't quite figure out. I get it every single time now, with whatever else I'm eating. I can't get enough of that stuff. Also, do yourself a favor and get the Fried Ice Cream. You'll thank me. read more

This is not Mexican Food, this is what I would expect to get from Taco Bell not a Mexican Restaurant, this is not authentic Mexican food it is just over priced canned food, I will not eat here again and do not recommend anyone else who is looking for good Mexican food to eat here either. read more
